This is a book everyone should read. Anything that offends God in our conversation needs to be eliminated. Just as natural babies must learn to speak the language of their elders, so Christians must learn how to talk Gods way.

This book spoke to me personally and how my language was so negative. I grew up in a negative atmosphere and this book taught me how to become more positive through my words. I really should read it again.

I am a talker (professional speaker and official "chatty Cathy"). The Bible tells us very clearly that there is power in our words. Learn how to tame the most dangerous instrument in your body!

First off, I want to say that my copy of the book actually has 279 pages and not the 144 that Goodreads says it has. I love this book and have read it a few times. Joyce ( I call her by her first name because I have read so many books and watched so many of her shows, I feel like she is a friend) talks about being able to control what comes out of your mouth. Not being mean or hard and all the biblical principles that go along with that.

I think that people should read Battlefield of the Mind first then move to this book because they really do work hand in hand with each other. She gives wonderfully practical advice on how to calm your mouth and get in line with what God wants for you.

This book will teach & remind you that what you say is what you are, that how you say it is who you are. It's such a good teaching.

I have one particular word which slips out whenever I am startled or when there is an accident. I read this book to learn how to get a handle on my startled outbursts. I wanted my speech to be more aligned with what I feel a Christian would say. I found Joyce Meyer's book helpful and inspiring. For example, the following quotes strummed a chord within me.

"I think some people try to control their mouth, but they do nothing about their thoughts. That is like pulling the top off of a weed; unless the root is dug up, the weed always comes back" (136)

"Set a guard, O Lord, before my mouth; keep watch at the door of my lips." Psalm 141:3 (146)

"God is calling us up higher. He is challenging us no longer to speak with our own words. He wants us to speak, not out of the soul, but out of the spirit." (156)

"When the Lord has the heart, He can always change the behavior." (164)

"The Bible says that God knows every word that is still unuttered on our lips. 'For there is not a word in my tongue [still unuttered], but behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.' (Psalm 139:4) He knows not only what we said yesterday, and what we are saying today, hut also what we are going to say tomorrow - even what we are thinking. That's why our prayer needs to be that of the psalmist. 'Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my [firm, impenetrable] Rock and my Redeemer.' (Psalm 19:14)" (177-178)

Meyer tells us in order to change our "actions and behaviors," we must first change our "thoughts and words." "And to do that, you need the help of the indwelling Spirit of God." (297) Praying for the Holy Spirit daily is what I try to remember to do. Watching what I put in my thoughts from social media, television, radio and books is harder to do. What follows from the thoughts comes out of the mouth. I realized this but needed to be reminded of it. If changing your speech, seeking the truth and receiving spiritual uplifting is what you are searching for, I recommend this book.

The major problem that I have with this book is that Joyce Meyer admits her own struggle with not controlling one's mouth (words) but she still has not mastered it. Mrs. Meyer has a penchant for taking a scripture and couching it in in a psychological approach. This would work if she were educated in such methods but she is not. Also, her ministry is a bit of a mystery to me because she claims she is focused on women and their issues but that is not the focus of this and most of her books. If she is teaching scripture that is one thing but she has now expanded to giving counseling which she has no background in. A number of times, she has claimed to be a bible-believing Evangelical Christian but is breaking with the practice of said Christians to not minister to men. I am confused by this contradiction. All that aside, this is a decent book about offending people through the mouth.

Boy.. did I ever need to read this one! LOL :)

Joyce is tough to read at times because she speaks truth, which is not always easy to hear/face. If you are looking for personal growth, she will push you in the right direction.

I liked it. We all need to be reminded that everytime we say something about someone, we are talking about one of God's children.

At the time I read this book I needed it. I was constantly complaining about what was going on in my life and not trying to rely on God. Out of the mouth brings life or death and Joyce broke it down.

Our ladies Bible study just finished this book!!! Wow, we learned so much and allowing the Holy Spirit to use our mouths for His glory is a daily event for me. Joyce has such a way that the Spirit uses her to speak to women in a direct way that is no nonsense. As Christians we must really think before we speak for there is such power that comes from our tongue. This book reminds me to continue persevering with how much I speak before really allowing The Lord to sweeten and soften my words!!! Being reminded of all The Lord has for us I and joining in with other women is always a blessing!!! Great book!

The power of the spoken word or even of words thought to your own self. All have power negative or positive. This book teaches you to be diligence and try to discipline your mouth and your mind for the better. It is from a very Christian point of view; however, even an agnostic would concede the points regarding self-fulfilling prophecy and positive affirmations. I have personally struggled with poor self image and came to understand how harmful it is to speak those comments to myself in the corners and silence of my own soul.

This was my first experience reading a book by Joyce Meyer, but I'm certain it will not be my last! She uses a lot of Scripture, yet speaks in the voice of a friend, not a preacher. I, for one, was in need of the reminder to speak positive words into my life. If I am feeling discouraged, where do I really think that will lead me? From p. 8, "Usually when we have mountains in our lives, we talk about them, but God's Word instructs us to talk to them..." I highly recommend this book for anyone needing a positive word in their own life.

I love this book. As humans we all have a tendency to use our mouths as weapons. This book teaches use how to control this part of ourselves so that we do not scar the ones that we love. Of course as many of the books I read, it teaches you this from a Christian perspective. Nevertheless, Christian or not we all are guilty for running at the mouth and we all need help some help in this area.

I had listened to the book on tape first which is really an abridged version with Joyce Meyers doing a seminar. She's funny and entertaining but I enjoyed her Battlefield of the Mind book a little more.

$.50 at a yard sale However, I mostly skimmed thru the book 'cause I didn't realize what it was about until I started reading. I'm a spiritual person but not so much into scripture I guess is the best way to put it. So, this book wasn't of interest to me, but probably would be for others.

Um, I have the Spanish edition, and frankly, I don't understand the language well enough to read a book in Spanish. But buying this book helped me realize that I want to be bilingual and be able to read in Spanish - setting goals.
