Desire Becomes Her by Shirlee Busbee is the first book I have read by her. It was a great visit back to historical England. I’m a huge historical novels fan, and I enjoyed this one.
The book opens with a prologue that was kind of a bang. Gillian Dashwood’s husband gambled away not only her fortune but HER too. He gave a Lord the opportunity to have her for a night, but didn’t even tell her that when he takes her to the party. That night ends with her a widow and the ton thinking she killed him.
Lucien Joslyn is a cool headed gambler who has earned the nickname Lucifer at the tables. Is new to the country, but has already made a strong friendship with Gillian’s Uncle Silas. He has heard the rumors about Gillian, and doesn’t trust her and her cousin’s reasons for coming to visit Silas. He is determined not to let her use his good friend, but also doesn’t understand the feelings she stirs up in him.
The last person on this earth Gillian wants to be attracted to is Luc, because of her former husband’s gambling she wants nothing to do with another gambler. But she also can’t get Luc out of her mind. She is confronted with shadows of her dead husband that threaten the happiness she has found in the years since he has been gone, and she has to find away to stop these things from killing her also. Can she trust Luc with not only her heart, but to help her deal with these dangers?
This was a delightful read. I found out after I started it that it was part of a series of books. I liked the book as a stand alone, but I think I would have liked it better if I have read the rest of the series first. I absolutely adored Uncle Silas, reformed gambler that he is. I hope y’all enjoy this one!! :)

„Ein teuflisch verführerisches Spiel“ ist der sechste und letzte Teil der spannenden Regency Beauties Reihe von Shirlee Busbee.
Gillian Dashwood hat ihren guten Ruf und ihr Vermögen durch ihren verschwenderischen Ehemann verloren. Nach seiner mysteriösen Ermordung vor zwei Jahren muss sie zusätzlich mit dem Verdacht leben, eine Mörderin zu sein. Doch gerade weil sie die dunklen Seiten der typischen Spieler kennt, will sie ihren geliebten Onkel beschützen, der sich mit dem berüchtigten Glücksritter Lucien Joslyn angefreundet hat. Joslyn ist seinerseits misstrauisch, was die skandalumwitterte Witwe im Schilde führt. Obwohl er ihr keine guten Absichten unterstellt, kann er sich der starken Anziehung, die Gillian auf ihn ausübt, trotzdem nicht entziehen.
Schade, dass die Reihe mit diesem Teil bereits zu Ende ist, denn ich mochte die unterhaltsamen und mitreißenden Geschichten. Es ist auf jeden Fall von Vorteil, wenn man zumindest den Vorgängerband gelesen hat, denn die Story baut auf die Handlung dort auf.
Der charmante Abenteurer und erfolgreiche Glücksspieler Luc ist der zwar äußerlich eindeutig ein Joslyn, aber seine uneheliche Abstammung schließt ihn größtenteils von der adligen Gesellschaft aus. Nachdem er vor kurzem nur knapp dem Tod entronnen war, überdenkt Luc seinen Lebenswandel und spielt mit dem Gedanken, sesshaft zu werden. Doch zuerst muss der gefährliche Schmugglerring ausgehoben werden, der die Gegend unsicher macht und seine Familie bedroht.
Gillian hat schon einiges durchgemacht und will eigentlich nur ihre Ruhe. Doch ihre Vergangenheit holt sie auch bei ihrem Onkel ein und sie sieht sich alten und neuen Drohungen gegenüber. Gillian hat auf die harte Tour gelernt, dass man einem schönen Gesicht und Charme nur bedingt trauen kann und einem Spieler überhaupt nicht.
Die knisternde Anziehung zwischen Gillian und Luc gerät neben dem spannenden Handlungsfaden um die Schmuggler und die anderen Verbrecher fast in den Hintergrund. Die Geschichten greifen aber gekonnt ineinander und man wird bestens unterhalten.

I won this book through Library Thing's Early Reviewers program. I have never read Shirlee Busbee before. I found Shirlee's writing style easy to follow and read.
Desire Becomes Her is a historical romance. The main characters are the Joslyn family and Gillian Dashwood and her relatives. Gillian is a widow and is thought to be a murderess. Luc Joslyn is a gambler that meets Gillian and is smitten right from the start. Gillian worries about what the ton think of her and doesn't trust Luc because he is just like her first husband Charles (a Gambler).
Gillian is just as attracted to Luc as he is to her. The awkwardness and side glances they do when they think no one is looking makes for a few smiles on the readers part. Luc questions his feelings at times as does Gillian. Neither wants to admit the love and attraction they have towards each other.
I loved the book for the twist and turns the story took along with the different plots in the story line. I did not get confused or lost in the different story lines. Looking for a new Romance Author then give Shrilee Busbee a try.

This one was the last in the series. It was not as well-written as her previous books in this series, and I felt like the plot and action was a bit tedious in places, I usually found these books impossible to put down until I've finished it, but this one I had a hard time finishing, it just dragged in places. I found the gambling to be a bit tiresome for some reason.

Lucien, Barnaby's half-brother, bored now that his recovery his coming along, befriends an elderly gentleman in the neighborhood. When Gillian comes to visit her uncle, Lucien is immediately intrigued. First, by her looks and personality. Secondly, the dark secrets surrounding her. While the Joslyn's are still fighting the band of smugglers in the area, romance blooms. Can their love overcome her past?

Der tapferen Gillian Dashwood ist kaum etwas geblieben, nachdem ihr verschwenderischer Ehemann ihr Vermögen verspielt hat und die skandalösen Umstände seiner Ermordung ihren Ruf ruiniert haben. Trotzdem ist die mutige junge Frau fest entschlossen, alles zu tun, um ihren geliebten Onkel vor dem berüchtigten Spieler Lucien Joslyn zu schützen.
Auch Lucien weiß um die Vergangenheit der jungen Dame und begegnet Gillian sehr misstrauisch. Gillian ist dem attraktiven Mann gegenüber ebenfalls zurückhaltend. Aber sie kann nicht leugnen, dass der attraktive Fremde eine Anziehungskraft auf sie hat, der sie sich kaum entziehen kann. Doch wird sie je wieder einem Mann vertrauen können?
Fazit:
Da ich bereits fast alle Bücher der Regency-Beauties-Reihe von Shirlee Busbee gelesen habe, war ich neugierig auf das neueste.
Wie bei den anderen Bänden der Reihe ist auch hier die Hauptfigur im Vordergrund, sehnsüchtig auf ein Gebäude schauend.
Das Cover passt perfekt zur Reihe und hat somit einen hohen Wiedererkennungswert.
Der Schreibstil ist wie gewohnt flüssig, locker und leicht. Die Charaktere wie auch die Handlungen sind gut und nachvollziehbar beschrieben. Man nehme eine Lady, deren Ruf beschädigt ist und einen berüchtigten Spieler, zwei unterschiedliche, die eigentlich nichts gemeinsam haben, oder?
Natürlich stehen die beiden Hauptakteure im Fokus der Geschichte, aber auch die anderen "Darsteller" tragen zum Gelingen der Geschichte bei. Insgesamt ist es ein Buch für ein paar kurzweilige Lesestunden.

Lady Gillian Dashwood ist derzeit nicht auf Partnersuche, da sie sehr schlechte Erfahrungen mit ihrem ersten Ehemann gemacht hatte.Er war ein Spieler und verspielte sein ganzes Geld und dann gab es noch viele Spekulationen um seinen Tod und Gillian gilt immer noch als verdächtig.
Doch jetzt hat sich ihr geliebter Onkel mit Luc Joslyn, einem verrufenen Spieler befreundet.Wie kann sie zulassen, dass ihr Onkel von ihm ausgenutzt wird.
Doch ihr Onkel ist von Luc weiterhin begeistert und hört nicht auf ihre Warnungen.

THIS ONE WAS SURPRISINGLY ENJOYABLE!
You don't know how glad I am to find another pair of Busbee H/h who are not like her Louisiana series characters. Luc and Gillian were actually pretty sweet, albeit it was something of a whirlwind romance.
OUR HERO is a rather good man, also a gambler but nothing like Gillian's ex-husband. As the beginning of the story was long winded, I skimmed to the good parts at the middle and I find Luc to be a very loving husband and caring lover. Theres not much about him that I can find faults with.
OUR HEROINE is a widowed beauty who has married a man who didn't love her for 9 years. Charles is dead and circumstances brought her into Luc's life and they fall in love. After getting caught in bed, the two are wedded and enjoys marital bliss with a murderer hanging in the midst.
OVERALL it was an enjoyable read but nothing overly fantastic. It was more focused on the murder mystery than the romance so it took awhile for me to warm up to it. By then I had already come to the end of the book.

Read the sample, but not planning to continue. On top of being pretty boring, having boring main characters (2 chapters were from the male protagonist (Luc)’s POV and nothing of note was revealed about him, apart from his “aristocratic” good looks, whatever that means, and his exceptional luck in gambling), it’s also the first time I’m seeing the ownership of (North American) plantations mentioned explicitly in these books. But of course, it’s just a tiny “tidbit” of the main character’s biography, and not a single mention of slave labour or slave ownership appears in the whole book. The author has been waxing poetic about Barnaby Joslyn’s great plantation “overseeing” skills though. And Luc is supposed to have “helped worked the land”. Right.

This started out good but I found myself losing interest in the smuggling plotline about half way through the book. It overshadowed the romance. There were also a lot of characters to keep straight, and while I believe this can be enjoyed as a standalone book, reading the previous books would probably be helpful.

This is one of the best Historical Romances that I have ever read. The characters were well developed and interesting. The same can be said for the storyline. I do have to say, the back cover blurb did not make this book seem all that interesting. Which is why I put off reading it for so long. It does not do the story justice, at all. I am happy I finally gave it a chance, despite my initial misgivings!

Good plot, but the resolution is partly missing. This is the first Busbee book I've read so maybe that's because this is part of a series. I liked the characters, especially Luc. The heroine's issues with gambling seem a little over he top and it seems the author makes a LOT of things in the story blue. Not sure why that stood out so much, but it seemed like every other article of clothing or piece of furniture described was blue.

When I received this novel, I thought I wouldn't like it at all because the cover and title make it sound like a romance novel. While it was a romance novel, I found it to be engrossing. The story and characters were very well developed. I found it a wonderful read!

Not as fluffy as I was expecting. Different plots and lots of characters. For me, it was a good quiet evening read. You will enjoy it more if you read some of her previous books first. The only reason that I didn't give four stars was that I would have liked more romance and less intrigue- just a personal preference.

I'm starting to really like Busbee's writing and stories. I'll have to check out the rest of her books (hopefully, there will be many). My only quibble was for the editor to edit out the many "azure eyes" references. I get it. His eyes, as well as his relations, are azure. No more of that word now, please.

I won this book from goodreads.. Loved this book. There was a few times where I was a little confused with the changes of point of view though. I live the building of characters and all the details she uses. This would definitely be a book I read again!

July 26, 2018What a great book! Really enjoyed reading it. The things done by the smugglers, including murders, were horrific but the love story was wonderful.
