Grayden was the older boy I admired from across the street. My brother’s best friend.

Until Grayden fell from grace.

Now, years later, he’s back in Hart County, determined to finally heal what’s broken. Half our hometown thinks he’s a villain. A broody tattoo artist with a criminal record and a chip on his shoulder.

Then I learn the truth. Grayden spent years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit.

When my ex shows up, threatening me and my son, Grayden protects us. In the middle of the chaos, I realize the safest place I’ve ever been is in his arms. Yet getting close to Grayden means risking my heart.

We both need a second chance. But our families have old wounds that run deep—and my ex isn't finished with us yet. The question isn't whether I can trust Grayden. He swears he’ll fight for me.

It's whether I’m brave enough to fight for us.

In this emotional small-town romance, you’ll find angsty family drama, heart-pounding suspense, spice, and a heartfelt happily ever after. Don’t miss the final book in the Hart County series! Can be enjoyed as a standalone.

4 Piper & Grayden Stars

This was a good end to the series. I’ve always liked Piper’s character & I was curious about Grayden. He has served 10 years in prison after an offence he committed while in the army. He went from being the glue that held his brothers and sister together , to being the family outcast. Piper is 11 years his junior but has always harboured a crush on her friend Grace’s big brother.

Piper owns ‘Silver Linings’ , the town coffee shop / bakery. She’s single mum to Ollie. Her relationship with her ex- husband is not great & he always seems to cause trouble.

This was a good book. The plot twisted a bit & a couple of things I don’t see coming. It would have helped to read the other books but it’s not essential. Lots of passion , some teary moments & a bit of humour to temper the drama. Small town, age gap, single parent, suspense romance.

HEA? Yes
Cheating? No

This book hit all my favorite notes—angst, redemption, and a fiercely protective hero. Grayden is the kind of misunderstood, broody hero I love, and the truth behind his past made his story all the more compelling. His quiet devotion and the way he steps up for Piper and Ollie? Swoon-worthy stuff.

This story has the perfect balance of tension and tenderness. The added family drama and suspense keep the stakes high without overshadowing the emotional core. In other words, a heartfelt, angsty second-chance romance that delivers.

I cannot believe this series has come to an end! Grayden O’Neal was a long time coming, but OMG what a story it was!

At its root Homeward Colorado is a story about forgiveness and second chances, Grayden is back in town after more than a decade away, stranded from his family. I really liked reading about this past and the sacrifices he made for those he loved, it made my heart so happy seeing them reconnect.

Grayden was an incredibly tortured hero, his past was heartbreaking and it made me so emotional seeing him fight for those he loved. The love he had for Piper was incredible.

Piper was everything! I was so excited we finally had her story, as she was the one I was most excited about. A single mom trying to do her best while trying to protect her son. She felt so real and relatable. Piper and Ollie were the absolute cutest, loved their mother-son relationship and how slowly Grayden became family. I adored how protective Ollie was of his mom, it was adorable. The relationship between him and Grayden was also really sweet.

The chemistry between Piper and Grayden was absolutely sizzling! Love how they never judged each other and how they became this unstoppable duo.

I adored seeing everyone back for this final installment, found family is always a favorite trope and I adored how it was done in this one, through forgiveness and hope.

This series ended perfectly!

We have read about the mysterious Grayden for 4 books and I absolutely fell in love with him in this book!

Piper and Ollie are a mom & son duo making the best of their life with a found family surrounding them, but neither expected Grayden to be the missing piece they needed.

I loved how Ollie was written as a playful kid but protective and no filter when it came to his mom.

Piper and Grayden - WOAH. The chemistry was so good and the passion was on point! I thought I’d get a full slow burn but it hit at the right time and perfect pace.

I was so intrigued by who was messing with Piper and Grayden - I almost solved it correctly!

I have loved this series from the first book and I am sad it’s ending but loved how it ended.

Thanks to Luna Literary for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

So this had me in all the feels. Grayden comes home! It is a hard fought journey and he has to fight small town judgement due to his past. Piper is a single mom with a bad past relationship but always had a crush on her BFF’s brother, Grayden. They connected in so many ways and he falls hard and fast. Of course the author adds some suspense in which gives the story even more depth. It was a beautiful story of sacrifice, secrets, forgiveness, heartbreak, redemption, perseverance, family, healing and hope. I have enjoyed every part of this series and highly recommend it.

Homeward Colorado is the fifth book in the Hart County series. The compelling final book offers a gripping conclusion focused on the complex relationship between Grayden O'Neil and Piper Landry. It's a standalone and rewards readers with complex family dynamics, especially the mystery surrounding the oldest O'Neil sibling. Offers a poignant ending to the Hart County series and a satisfying happy ending for Piper and Grayden. It's ideal for readers looking for an emotional, intense small-town romance with suspense and well-developed characters. Homeward Colorado is romantic and suspenseful, with a gritty and raw tone that keeps readers hooked.

Grayden O'Neil returns to Hart County, carrying the burden of ten years in prison for a crime he didn't commit. Known in the series as the "infamous older brother" who suddenly vanished, his return is driven by a strong desire for reconciliation and a second chance with his estranged family. Beneath his troubled exterior and the town’s prejudice lies a loyal and honorable man whose dedication to love and family becomes the key to his journey of healing. His commitment to honesty and determination to rebuild his life spark a powerful transformation. Piper Landry, best friend of Grayden’s younger sister Grace and owner of Silver Linings Coffee, is a strong and resilient character. As a single mother and successful business owner, Piper has built an independent life shaped by past romantic disappointments, including a difficult divorce and neglect from her parents. She avoids serious relationships, preferring simple connections, yet secretly admires Grayden since childhood. Her initial caution and natural compassion make her the perfect person to help Grayden heal. The relationship between Grayden and Piper begins with visible attraction and an initial interest in a fling. However, it deepens as they confront their past and present struggles. Grayden’s respectful attitude and fierce protectiveness toward Piper and her son, Ollie, help break down her walls. His caring nature reveals the tenderness and support she desperately needs. That's not to say they don't face challenges. Grayden’s past and the town’s divided views create obstacles, as does the current danger surrounding them. Meanwhile, Piper struggles with her fear of vulnerability and commitment, while Grayden battles the trauma of his past and fears losing his new life and connections. The author skillfully weaves these personal struggles into a compelling narrative, showing how their mutual support and growing love empower them to face any danger together. The romance combines heat and heart and is filled with playful banter and touching moments. Grayden and Piper's story shows the power of second chances—a chance for Piper to find true love, and for Grayden to seek redemption, family, and a future with someone he deeply cares for. The romance intertwines seamlessly with the family drama and suspense, making their fight for a future together resonate strongly.

“Fear will lie to you, babe. But your heart tells the truth. Listen to it.”

Absolute perfection!! The emotions! The tension! The spice! The swoon! Not to mention the family dynamics, the suspense, the plot twists! Simply incredible!!

Grayden O'Neal: The mysterious bad boy brother who served 10 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit and had been estranged from his family.

Guilt. Shame. Anger. Secrets. Redemption.

At his core, Grayden was a good man just looking for a chance to start over and prove himself, to try to do the right thing and reconcile with his family.

Piper Landry: The woman who swore she would never fall in love again, the wild girl, not willing to risk getting her heart broken. It was absolutely beautiful to see someone so relationship averse open her heart to love. I admired how everything she did was because of Ollie. The unconditional love they shared was undeniable.

Ollie, the nine-year-old bundle of chaos who only wanted his mom to be happy. Brave and honest, sweet and thoughtful, with such a big personality and a heart full of love. I adored him with my whole heart!

“That’s the thing about love. It actually makes complicated things seem really simple.”

I loved how Grayden was Piper's grounding force, how she was his strength. The way they fell for each other, slowly, then all at once. How Piper never judged Grayden for the mistakes of his past. How he never gave up on her. How he protected Piper and Ollie without so much as a second thought.

What would you do to protect someone you care about to keep them from getting hurt? What would you risk? What would you give up?

Homeward Colorado is a story about forgiveness and second chances. Building a foundation of trust. Love and acceptance. Hope and new beginnings. It was sweet and heartwarming, emotional and intimate, messy and complicated, but, ultimately, a story of not letting your past define you and opening yourself up to take a chance on love. Reaching for something you never even dared to dream of.

“When we reach out for something, when we make that leap and open our hearts, we might not get there. The person we’re reaching for might not reach back. We might fall. But the part where we take the risk? That’s when we’re most alive. That’s the moment we can fly.”

I am actually sitting here clutching my chest like I’ve just BEEN THROUGH SOMETHING because Homeward Colorado by Hannah Shield absolutely wrecked me in the softest, most emotional, heart-healing way possible 😭💛

This isn’t just a romance. This is redemption. This is second chances dragged through the dirt, bruised, bleeding, and STILL choosing love anyway.

Grayden. GRAYDEN.
I don’t even have words, but I’m going to try because this man deserves them all.

He’s that quiet, broody, tattooed “town villain” that everyone whispers about… except the truth?? The TRUTH?? It hit me like a freight train. Knowing he lost years of his life for something he didn’t do just shifted everything. Suddenly every guarded look, every rough edge, every ounce of distance made sense and my heart just—cracked wide open for him.

And the way he loves Piper???
Not loud. Not flashy. Just steady, protective, unshakable. The kind of love that says “I’ve got you” without needing to say a word.

Piper is EVERYTHING. A single mum doing her best, carrying so much weight, trying to protect her son while also figuring out if she’s allowed to want more for herself. She felt so real to me. Her fear, her strength, that constant push and pull between safety and love… I was right there with her the whole time.

And OLLIE 🥹
That sweet boy owns my entire heart. The way Grayden is with him??? I melted into an emotional puddle. There’s something so powerful about a man who doesn’t just love the woman, but shows up fully for her child too. It wasn’t forced or dramatic, it just was. Natural. Gentle. Safe.

The tension in this book had me on edge too. The ex showing up?? I was STRESSED. Like actual “put the book down and pace” stressed. The danger felt real, and it made every protective moment from Grayden hit ten times harder.

And don’t even get me started on the history between the families. The small-town drama, the old wounds, the judgment… it all adds this layer of emotional weight that makes their love feel hard-won and so, so worth it.

But the best part??
Grayden falls FIRST. And HARD.
You can feel it in everything he does, even when he’s trying to hold back. That quiet devotion?? Absolutely lethal to my emotions.

This book is:
• aching and tender
• tense and protective
• full of healing and hard-earned trust
• and wrapped in that cozy, messy small-town atmosphere that just pulls you in

By the end, I felt like I’d watched two broken people slowly, carefully build something solid and real out of the wreckage of their pasts.

I didn’t just love this book. I felt it. Deep in my bones.

Hart County owns a piece of my heart now and I am not getting it back. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is a book about youthful mistakes, anger, regrets and redemption. It features some dark family secrets, an ex who thinks he is owed more, strained family relationships and a vow to avoid love and commitment. Grayden and Piper are two very compelling characters that easily draw you into their story. They are both flawed and imperfect people trying to do their best for the people they love. They have a history of sorts, but now they make a real connection, a connection that others are not at all happy about.

Despite his time in prison and his self-imposed exile from his family Grayden has come back to Silver Ridge to try to reconcile with his family, with mixed results. Piper, his best friend’s much younger sister and his own sister’s best friend, shows him a compassion and generosity. When he makes it clear that he did not come to hurt his family, Piper offers him a hand up rather than holding his past against him. She rents her family’s old home to him so he can rebuild his life and open his own tattoo shop in town. Her ex’s return to town shortly after brings plenty of trouble into both of their lives.

Piper has sworn off love and commitment. She doesn’t mind a quick hookup or fling, but she refuses to put her or her son’s heart at risk again. She had a teenage crush on Grayden, but never anticipated that he would claim her heart after showing her the man he has become. He is a protector to his very core, needing to keep everyone he cares for safe, even from him. That was why he cut himself off from his family and friends fifteen years ago, after he was convicted and sent to prison. In the five years since he was released, his has wanted nothing more than to reunite with his family and has done his best to do so.

Grayden is determined to stay in Silver Ridge and keep working to re-establish ties with his family and friends. The past fifteen years has taught him to control his temper, be patient, to keep working towards a goal and to never give up. He knows the value of kindness, compassion and forgiveness. Piper and her son Ollie are not afraid him and in fact feel safe and secure with him. Ollie sees Grayden as a father figure at a time when his own father has been neglectful or absent. When trouble comes for him and Piper, Grayden’s protector mode is fully activated and on guard. The gossips and naysayers soon learn the true mettle of the man they have been judging only by his troubled past.

This insightful and compelling book has my full recommendation.

“Grayden.” Piper’s frown was still there, and still deathly serious. “The more I get to know the man you are, the more you’re a hero to me.”

✔️romantic suspense
✔️single mom
✔️brother’s ex-best friend
✔️coffee shop owner x tattoo artist
✔️age gap (she’s 30, he’s 41)
✔️small town
✔️no 3rd act breakup

I have been looking forward to reading this book for a long time, and it definitely exceeded my expectations! I think it might even be my favorite of the series, you can read this one as a standalone, but for the most emotional impact I highly recommend reading them in order. Both Piper (FMC) and Grayden (MMC)
(and Piper’s nine year old son Ollie) have been characters in the series from the start, but Grayden was absent for the majority of the time and this is the book where we find out what really happened all those years ago and why he stayed away from their small town for so long. Piper has long since written off love and relationships after her tumultuous divorce, and though she wants to be with Grayden she is worried about how it will rock the boat with their family (Piper and her brother are best friends with Grayden’s siblings), the affect it could have on her son, and she isn’t interested in being hurt the way her ex hurt her ever again.

Since this is a romantic suspense novel, there is a bit of danger and violence seen on page. I wouldn’t call it dark, but there are a couple of moments that are a little intense, please check the content warnings before picking this up. I don’t want to give anything away, but just want to say that the mystery and suspense elements are exactly what I look for when picking up a book like this—it makes sense, isn’t over the top, and the villain(s) are both obvious and not but like I said before it makes sense when all the pieces are put together.

My favorite part of this book (aside from the relationship building between the MCs and watching them find their way to each other) was watching Grayden open up to his siblings and the relationships starting to heal. He went through something impossibly difficult and shouldered it all alone, and though everyone *thinks* they know what really happened, they don’t have the full story. This is a story of healing, hope, and forgiveness. I’m sad this series is over but so happy that each member of this family/friend group are all safe, settled, and found their happily ever afters.

*Thank you so much to the author (Hannah Shield) and Luna Literary for the opportunity to ARC read this book! All opinions are my own*

ARC REVIEW
This was the perfect ending to such an incredible series. The way it all came full circle—returning to where everything started—felt so intentional and emotional. I honestly can’t believe it’s over.

Grayden and Piper deserved this kind of love, and I’m so happy they found their way to each other. And the O’Neal siblings finally coming together and learning the full truth? That moment was everything. When everything came to light, my heart genuinely broke for them.

Piper, being the last one in the “Lonely Hearts” group, was such an ironic and beautiful full-circle moment. She started the club believing they’d all stay single, each of them carrying their own reasons for avoiding love. But one by one, she watched her friends fall, break their own rules, and find something worth risking everything for. Everyone… except her. And she had made peace with that—especially with everything going on in her life with her son and her ex-husband; Until Grayden comes back.

Grayden—her childhood crush and her best friend’s older brother—returns to town determined to fix what was broken and reconnect with his family. And from that moment, everything starts to shift.

Grayden is such a layered character. As the eldest sibling, I really felt for him. The weight he carried, especially growing up in the kind of environment he did, shaped so much of who he became. His anger wasn’t random—it was learned. It was survival. And even then, you could see how hard he tried to be better, especially for his siblings. His time in the military only added more to that burden, and the misunderstanding that led to his imprisonment just made everything more heartbreaking.

Watching him come back and try to rebuild his life—while slowly falling for Piper—was so well done. Fate kept pulling them together, even when Piper was determined to stay single. But Grayden? He was patient, steady, and completely intentional. And when her ex started causing problems, there was no question—he wasn’t letting anything happen to the people he loved.

One of my favorite parts was his relationship with Ollie. The way he met him where he was, didn’t baby him, but still let him be a kid—it was so genuine and heartwarming.

This book had everything: emotion, healing, tension, and love. It hurt to say goodbye to these characters, and I’m definitely going to miss them.

“Homeward Colorado” is the fifth and final book in the “Hart County Series.” In this emotional small-town romance, you’ll find angsty family drama, heart-pounding suspense, spice, and a heartfelt happily ever after.

🩷Small town💜Single mom🩷Brother’s ex-best friend💜Best friend’s brother🩷He falls first💜Woman in danger

After more than ten years Grayden O’Neal has returned. He is carrying the burden of ten years in jail for a murder that he did not commit. His brother Callum and sister Grace are so happy that he is home….his other brother Ashford, wants nothing to do with him. “Maybe Ashford was right. Maybe I’d broken us too badly to ever put the pieces back together.”

Piper has had a secret crush on Grayden since she was a teenager. Her brother Teller, is or was his best friend before everything happened and her best friend Grace, is his sister. She is single mum to Ollie and does not do serious relationships, preferring simple relationships, but she lets him in. They have fun together, he opens up to her about his past and
he becomes a father figure to Ollie. Grayden is very protective of both of Piper and Ollie, especially from her ex-husband…“Your days of hurting Piper are over. Because I’m here now.”

There is never a dull moment! This book is everything you expect from a alpha male small town romance! I’m very happily hooked - I did not want it to end! Once I started reading, I could not put this book down! At times you will laugh, you will cry, get angry and frustrated - most of all, you will love the twists! This book will charm “the pants off you” and leave you going back for more 😊 I thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful love story. This is a lovely book that will keep you hooked! It has fun, laughs, intrigue, twists that you do not expect, and physical attraction. You cannot help but fall in love with Grayden and Piper.

“Warm, smooth skin. Her golden hair, light brown eyelashes. I wrapped my arms around her and held her close, gazing into her green eyes. She did the same to me. “So beautiful,” I murmured. “How do you get more perfect every time we’re together?”

This is a lovely book that will keep you hooked! I thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful love story 💗 From page to page, chapter to chapter, you will enjoy this beautiful story - from cover to cover! This book will not disappoint! Highly recommended 😊

It’s both exciting and sad to reach an end of a series.

This series is one I’m been ARC reading from the very start. Honestly, I feel like I am part of this series (and I am not the only one), definitely one of the people in this small town watching everything unfold. So it is sad to see this series end but then also exciting to finally get answers about the mysterious brother.

Yes, there were answers and yes, there was spice and yes, someone died (wasn’t me). But honestly, this might be my favorite in the series. This is a romantic suspense kind of book and I didn’t see the ending coming. I thought I had it and the mmc, Grayden had the same idea and I thought we were on the same page, but we were wrong. I thought with this being the 5th book in the series, I knew how things were going to go down, but I still got shocked (and I’m glad for it).

But I loved the story! Piper is a single mom who vowed to never love again, well until her childhood crush comes back into town and well things changed. But Grayden, he came to make things right and start a new life, he didn’t think he would ever show interest in his ex best friend’s little sister. See, this is why you shouldn’t think, well in these type of cases.

Piper and Grayden were just amazing together but also the reason I took off half a star. They were about to reveal secrets of the past and one of them would start thinking with their other head and the subject would change. Edging me with the lack of answers. Trust me, it was weird for me to not want them to kiss (or more). Like give me the answers first! I did eventually get the answers.

I guess all in all this was a great book and a great way to end the series (hopefully end the amount of people dying). This is a series of interconnected standalones, so you don’t have to read all of the books, but I recommend you do. One because they are good but also it really builds up for this book. But you won’t be lost if it’s been awhile in between books.

This book caught me by surprise, which I always love. I knew it would be a romance- the thriller/mystery element shocked me… in a good way.
I really enjoyed the banter in this book and the found family aspect. There was something so refreshing to watch a group of people choose to stand by someone they love when it all comes down to it.
The thing that dropped it from a 5 star for me unfortunately was the connection between the MMC and the FMC. It almost felt forced like they didn’t LOVE each other. Also, my main reason for looking at this was to get the taboo 10 year age gap romance (like in Older or Taylor’s Father). No one seemed to mind that he was 10 years older- including the main characters. Seemed the trope was leaning more toward brothers former best friend and sisters best friend rather than labeling this an age gap. I think it would have been more accurate to say age gap was a micro trope because it was rarely discussed. **still a wonderful book, just expected more agony or angst over the large age difference given he knew her as a newborn and he was 10 when she was born.
The MMC- Grayden was such a soft teddy bear to have been in prison. He seemed down bad for the FMC and like he would move worlds for her. I liked the fact that he never saw her as a little girl still though, he saw the woman she had become. It was a bit refreshing. His character got 4 stars for me. My main characters rarely get 5 and almost never hit 6 star top tier so a 4 is excellent in my book.
The FMC- Piper seemed like she couldn’t make her mind up which I rather liked because it was believable. Sometimes we don’t know what our mind wants or what’s best for us. And being a mom makes things more difficult because we now have others to put first. Her character got 3.75 stars for me. And let me just say that’s not a low rating to me.
I would absolutely recommend and I will be rereading this.

What a powerful ending to this series!
Because Ms. Shield’s devoted fans have waited almost patiently for Grayden’s story, we can celebrate now; sadly, it marks the end of this series too. We finally know the rest of his story. Grayden has been a non-corporeal character from the start. Every book of the five in this series has mentioned him in some fashion. What a way to introduce the man and end the series! Adore this cover. Perfect, right down to his tattoo mentioned in the book.
Grayden O’Neal is the oldest of the O’Neal siblings who had to fend for themselves after their mother died and their father left. The O’Neal kids and the two Landry siblings from across the street, Teller and Piper took care of each other. Mrs. Landry was usually “indisposed” most of the time. Grayden was eleven years older than his youngest sibling, Grace who was besties with Piper Landry. Grace never knew that Piper had a huge crush on Grayden when she was 15yo. As they became adults, Grayden, Ashford and Callum O’Neal went into the military; as well did Teller Landry. Grayden got into a terrible jam in the military and ended up imprisoned for ten years and dishonorably discharged. He stayed away from his family for fifteen years. He has come home.
Piper Landry Carmichael is now divorced from Danny with a nine-year-old son named Ollie, but she still cares for the prodigal O’Neal son. Can Grayden help her when Danny comes sniffing around? Can Piper help Grayden become the older brother he used to be? Lots to resolve and a thrilling ending. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through Booksprout. It comes highly recommended. This whole series does. Honestly, if you enjoy wonderful but somewhat damaged characters getting their HEA with the perfect amount of steam and angst, pick up any of these books. Loved this one!

Hart County Series, Book 5
Hannah Shield

Grayden and Piper

Book 5, the last of the series…Boo! The whole series we have read about the infamous older brother, Grayden. It has been years since anyone had heard from him and the siblings are not happy about it. But as the series progresses, we learn a little more about Grayden. Let’s make the connections first; Grayden, Ashford, Callum and Grace are siblings, as are Teller and Piper. Teller best friends with the guys, Piper best friends with Grace. Now adults, everyone except Piper is married or in a happy relationship. Grace’s husband Dane had found Grayden back in their book, and Grace and Callum have been speaking with Gray. But Ash wants no part of it, still bitter about the situation. But up until this point, none of them know what really happened to Gray. And now Gray is back, ready to explain, and wanting his family back together. But it will not be an easy road.

Piper is very thankful for her close relationship with her brother Teller, and their friends. They have been a lot of help, especially after her divorce and raising Ollie. Piper is shocked when Gray returns to town. She has held a secret about him, even from her bestie Grace. Then she finds herself offering to help him. But with Gray’s return and past and her trouble ex, this small town is full of drama and chaos.

I knew Gray’s story would be amazing. My heart hurts for him. All of these stories are so good and love how everything came together. I enjoyed reading all of them, very exciting, entertaining, engrossing, and just overall amazing! So…I don’t love that this is it, the series is over but look forward to whatever Hannah Shield writes next!

So I went into this book with only a blurb...I haven't read the previous four books in the series. While I'm now interested in everyone else's stories I didn't need them to fall into Grayden and Piper's story.
Really quickly: Piper and Grace are besties since forever. Grace has a big brother (several of them actually) that Piper has always had a crush on. Grayden is this particular big brother but he's like 11 years older than the girls so he's not really an option to our Piper. Grayden is in the military when he gets into big trouble and ends up in prison for 10 years. He's been out for 5 years now and wants to come home to his siblings.
Piper is a single, divorced mom to Ollie, who I absolutely love!
Piper and Grayden have some off the chart chemistry. But they also have siblings who wouldn't necessarily love them being together. They also have small town gossips and judgmental jerks who are determined to run Grayden out of town. She has an ex who is a slime ball.
He's tattoo artist starting his business and she's his landlord. They just can't stay out of each other's orbits.
This book was really, really good. Our Ex-con is actually a golden retriever. He falls first and he falls hard. People in town try really hard to make his life miserable and it feels like every day is another battle to win. But with his sister and brother and Piper he has a support system for the first time in a long time and you find yourself rooting for him.
I took my time reading this one...I did not want to miss a single minute of their story.
If you've read the series then this one will tie things up for you. If you haven't...don't sweat it....it's a wonderful read that focuses on our main characters.

Hannah Shield continues to impress me with her books. “Homeward Colorado” is the last in her Hart County series, and also our chance to finally see the elusive Grayden get his happily ever after. But of course, this being a Hannah Shield book, our hero and heroine don’t get anything the easy way.

Grayden has a troubled past, and all he really wants is to come home to his family. What he didn’t count on was Piper, his little sister’s best friend. And while Piper is all for some sexy times, she’s a single mother with an abusive ex and no desire to do the whole love thing again. Add in lots of people hoping to see Grayden fail and lots against him and Piper hooking up, making everything even more complicated.

The story never gets too dark, though. The author focuses on the light of Grayden and Piper’s relationship. And the inclusion of family and friends brightens it even more. Piper’s son Ollie is a sweet addition, too.

There is some suspense, as well, but the overwhelming heart of the story is the romance between two people who find an intense connection with one another. The chemistry between them is palpable, and the way Grayden fell for Piper so completely was absolutely swoon-worthy.

This book, like the others in the series, is so well written. The story flows and the characters just come alive. It’s so easy to get caught up in the story and get lost for few very enjoyable hours.

This last book in the series is bittersweet. The author has created a world filled with wonderful characters, and saying goodbye isn’t easy. But she has given readers a perfect farewell with Grayden and Piper.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

After reading the past 4 books in this series, I was waiting for Grayden's story - the eldest O'Neal sibling- as he is mentioned in the previous plots.

Grayden left to the military but soon found trouble and was condemned to jail for 10 years. After almost 15 years, he returns to the small town of Hart County with hopes to reconnect with his siblings. But the small town doesn't forget and the dynamics of the town mark him. He, however holds onto a lot pain from the past (even when he was not guilty of the crime) and will do anything to protect his family. Piper is a single divorced mom to Ollie and Grayden's youngest sister best friend. She had a painful relationship that left her very jaded to relationships, she believes that hook ups are the way to go as they leave without catching feelings especially as she needs to protect her son from pain.

When Grayden comes back into town, Piper -who is a lot younger than him - is immediately attracted to him - she had a crush on hin back in the day-, and the sentiment is mutual. She becomes her landlord when he sets a tatoo shop in her home. He sees her tender and caring side along with her independent and fearful demeanor, she is able to break his walls and help heal his wounds. Their chemistry is magnetic, their passion is explosive, their love is full of healing, understanding, protection, listening, and the ultimate trust. HE will provide protection against her ex and her fears, and she will be the link to the town, his family, and the hope of a HEA

A bittersweet plot that is poignant, heartfelt, and a great ending to this wonderful series

The final of the Hart County (Lonely Hearts) series and this might possible be my favorite. For the last four books we have heard about Grayden O'Neil, the oldest O'Neil sibling who after a short military career, had served 10 years in prison for manslaughter and then disappeared. The family wound though a decade later is still felt fresh and bleeding.

Grayden is now back in Hart County, determined to rebuild his relationships with his siblings in whatever capacity they will allow. His one promise is that he will answer any question directly asked of him honestly. He both wants them to ask about that night that sent him to prison and also is terrified of it. The town of course has mixed feelings about ruggedly handsome tattooed former prisoner being back and Grayden gets his fair share of prejudice.

The one person who seems to want to give him a chance is Piper. His little sisters' best friend. Piper is 30, a single mom, business owner and single member of the Will-Never-Fall- In- Love or Commit - To -Anyone Club. She wants uncomplicated hook ups with no attachments. And she definitely wants Grayden. She ends up renting him her childhood house.

I absolutely loved Grayden and Piper's chemistry. The way he treated her with respect, loved Ollie and just wanted to care for her. My heart melted into a puddle a few times.

Of course with any Hart County book, there is always something sinister going on in the plot. Grayden has secrets and Piper discovers a few of her own. I finished this book in 1 day and I can't wait to re-read it. I'm sad the series is over, but it was a fantastic way to end it!

So sad that this is the last book in the Hart County Series. I have thoroughly enjoyed the O'Neal's and Landry's that it breaks my heart that it is ending. However I am so glad that Grayden and Piper got their HEA. Piper is a single mom to Ollie, sister of Teller Landry (was Grayden's best friend) and best friend to Grace (Grayden's little sister) and the last remaining member of the Lonely Harts Club. She had a crush on Grayden back in high school but with the age difference and the fact that he was Grace's older brother - nothing could come of it. Grayden went into the military and during that time was convicted of a crime that he didn't commit. He has now served his time and is wanting to get back to his family, but they (Ashford, Callum and Grace) have had a hard time with his absence since he basically stopped communicating with them after the events unfolded.

Piper and Grayden reacquainted themselves with one another when Grayden comes into town on Thanksgiving. Grayden falls fast and hard for the strong, independent, feisty, spirited, but also vulnerable woman that Piper is. Piper has reservations on love due to her ex-husband and old wounds from her parents, that she had vowed to never give her heart away again. Grayden becomes protective of Piper when she and her son are threatened, but that could cost him his freedom due to his past.... Their love story is of true second chances. Piper's second chance at LOVE and Grayden's second chance at a LIFE with his family and the woman he has fallen in love with.

Thank you so much Luna Literary and Hannah Shield for the ARC.

Coming back to Hart County felt like coming home 🏡💛 — and getting Grayden’s story?? Worth the emotional damage, honestly.

We finally get to understand where Grayden has been and why he stayed away for so long… and let me tell you, it hits. HARD.

This story between Grayden & Piper was just so soft and beautiful 🥹✨. Piper has grown up around the O’Neal family, besties with Grace and basically woven into their world — which makes their relationship feel even more delicate and complicated. The hesitation? The what will everyone think? tension? SO real.

And then that 90% plot twist…
I almost yeeted my Kindle across the room 😅📱
I was STRESSED wondering if we were still getting our HEA or if the author was about to emotionally ruin me.

But truly — I loved every second of revisiting Hart County and catching up with everyone 🫶 It felt like getting little glimpses of old friends, and now I need to go back and read the ones I missed because clearly I’m invested-invested.

Grayden though?? Sir. 🧎‍♀️
The way he lets Piper set the pace, respects her boundaries, and just shows up for her?? TOP. TIER. MAN.
And don’t even get me started on him with Ollie 😭💙
That man didn’t just step up — he became everything. Ollie seeing him as his whole world?? I’m unwell.

Piper’s hesitation because of her ex (Danny 🙄🚩) makes so much sense, and it just adds another layer of depth to their story.

I’m not ready to leave Hart County again — I need MORE of these people immediately 🥹📚✨

and this series ended in the best note possible. second chances at love and life, forgiveness, redemption, extremely protective hero and family drama, oh this book has it all.

i was really excited for grayden since the very start and to say he is the best man isn't a lie. he is very misunderstood, tortured by past, willing to do anything for family. i really loved reading about his past, his therapy, healing journey. my man wanted to make everything right and he did. the love he had for piper was incredible, how he was willing to wait for her and was so patient with her. also his bond with ollie, to see ollie see him for a good man he is.

and piper was everything i wanted of her. so so glad to have her story. a single mom willing to do anything for her son, the love she had for ollie was everything. she felt so real and relatable and what a sunshine she was. my girlie had her walls so high and seeing her fall in love with grayden was so beautiful. what i absolutely loved about her was how she never judged grayden and was willing to listen to him.

the chemistry between them was sizzling, visible since the start. there was understanding, communication, trust in their relationship and it was the most beautiful aspect. am in love with how they never judged each other and supported one another. the tension and the tenderness between them was balanced so well. and it was so adorable to see them being a perfect little family. the family angst really made this top for me. seeing everyone back was what i really needed and their reunion relly made me cry. love love this series so muchhhh!!

i got an arc for this and am leaving this review voluntarily.

Homeward Colorado by Hannah Shield completely stole my heart and took me on an emotional ride from beginning to end. Filled with angst, redemption, second chances, and a fiercely protective hero, this story had me feeling everything on every single page! Grayden was such a beautifully tortured hero with his heartbreaking past and determination to rebuild his life made my heart ache in the best way. At his core, he’s just a good man searching for a second chance to do the right thing, reconcile with his family, and build something meaningful. The way he falls first and falls hard UGH you could feel it in every quiet moment, every protective instinct, every carefully chosen word. His patience, honesty, and quiet devotion absolutely melted me. Piper felt so real and relatable, she’s a single mom doing everything she can to protect her son and guard her heart after being hurt. Watching her slowly open herself up to Grayden, her childhood crush, was so beautiful. Everything she did was for Ollie, and her forgiving heart that was only for those who truly earned it, made her such a strong and admirable character. And Ollie, he completely stole the show. His bond with Piper was so sweet, and I loved how protective he was of his mom. Watching Grayden slowly become part of their little family and build his own relationship with Ollie was one of my favorite parts of this story! The tension and chemistry between Piper and Grayden was EVERYTHING! The slow build, flirty banter, emotional moments, and spice had me completely hooked. Add in the family dynamics, suspense, plot twists, and emotional growth, and I fell completely in love with this story. Watching these two broken but strong characters find their way to a hard-earned happy ending was incredibly satisfying and heartwarming! I’m still not over Grayden and his quiet, fiercely protective love. Thank you to Hannah Shield & Luna Literary for the ARC which is now available, and I truly cannot recommend this one enough!

Grayden comes home!

I’ve been waiting for Grayden O’Neil’s story throughout this series, and I’m so glad it finally arrived. There’s so much emotion and hope woven into this book that I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. Of course, once I finished, I wished I had slowed down and savored it a bit more.

Grayden returns to Hart County on Thanksgiving to see his family, and the reunion goes… about as expected, if not as hoped. He has a long road ahead if he wants to rebuild what was once there. He’s also reacquainted with Piper Landry, and because his sister Grace is Piper’s best friend, she’s determined to help him however she can.

I loved the slow, steady build of trust and affection between Grayden, Piper, and Piper’s son, Ollie. Ollie’s hesitation to accept Grayden felt both sweet and fiercely protective of his mom. As their relationship deepens, so does the suspense, with mysterious events surrounding Grayden and Piper. Ms. Shield expertly builds tension and momentum, and the twists she delivers genuinely caught me off guard.

When the truth finally comes to light about the night and events that sent Grayden to military prison for ten years, it feels both freeing and heartbreaking. Hannah Shield wrote the reveal so beautifully that I had to pause more than once just to allow my emotions to settle as Grayden’s family learned how far he went to protect and support them. It was a powerful, emotional moment—and exactly what I’ve come to expect from her writing. I’m so sorry to be leaving Hart County, but I can’t wait to see where Ms. Shield takes us next.

“We might fall. But the part where we take the risk? That’s when we’re most alive. That’s the moment we can fly.”

This series by Hannah Shield has been a fantastic journey! I’m so sad it’s coming to an end. I don’t want to say goodbye to these characters.

I knew going into this book that Grayden was going to wreck me, but omg. This poor man. 😭 I just want to wrap him into the biggest hug and never let go.

“Piper felt like home.”

Grayden lost his connection to his family after a terrible mistake. Now it’s over a decade later and he is back in Hart County hoping for a second chance.

“But with Piper, I felt like I had a shot at my wildest hopes coming true.”

I loved Piper so much! She’s a great mom and an amazing small business owner. I have been waiting for her HEA for the whole series. Seeing how she finally got to show her feelings for her childhood crush was so special. Grayden & her are able to find home in each other and I loved it!

“That’s it, wild girl. Show me everything.”

When these two finally give in to their feelings, the spice was SO GOOD.

“Hands on the tile, sweetheart.“

They have to jump through hoops to be together and to find their HEA but it was so worth the wait! (Also, holy plot twists! I thought I knew how the villian was but I was SO WRONG! I truly did NOT see that coming!

Okay friends, it’s time to head to Hart County, Colorado. One last time! 🥹💖✨

STORY: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
SPICE: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

Oh boy do I love the Hart County series! This was the easiest 5⭐️ I have given in a while!

I am typically not a series person because I find I can't commit to it all. BUT... I have read the last 3 books though ARCs and the pacing has been absolute perfection! These books just hit so many tropes on my preferred list:

✅ Age gap
✅ Angsty
✅ Pining
✅ Beautiful tattooed MMC
✅ Small Town vibes
✅ A little mystery
✅ Solid Spice

I love the characters and their development. Grayden O'Neal is a broken man who comes home in hopes of moving forward with his life following a difficult past. He wanted to rebuild his life that included his family and extended found family.

*** I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. ***

Grayden is the epitome of smooth and sexy. The way he treated Piper Landry was chef's kiss 👩🏼‍🍳💋! Every woman wants a Grayden in their life. He spent his whole life running from his family to then finally come home and find his forever future. Perfection! Piper was not looking for love anymore following her divorce. That was until Grayden resurfaced and changed her and Ollie (her son) for the better.

The writing was perfect, character development and suspense were fantastic. I am truly a fan of Hannah Shield. I don't know what she pours into these pages, but it’s simply wonderful. I’m so sad that this is the last book in the series. I feel it ended with a smash hit but I will miss these characters.

Grayden and Piper are so good together who can’t but help cheer and root for them throughout this whole book.
I think it’s safe to say we love them individually but together they are everything! they both have had defying moments in their lives that has shaped the way they see their future. They have also seen everyone else get there happy ever after but there’s just seemed out of reach. The moment Grayden came back to town it’s as if Piper knew this was the piece that she has silently missing.

I feel that Grayden was given a horrible hand in his later life and he was defined by a moment that wasn’t even his to begin with but yet some how deep down Piper seem to always see and know the better in him.
Piper was an amazing women and Grayden was the person to truly adore her and give her truth and comfort. He needed her as much as she needed him.
There was ups and downs in this story but beneath it all Piper and Grayden survived against all the odds and they both got that second chance, real love they both deserved.
I really liked this book and the story I fell in love with the characters. And yes it was a bit of a slow burn but these two were meant for another. there was no denying that spark and longing between them. Did I forget to mention that Grayden has piercing oh dear yes that alone is enough to make anyone blush. I was shook!… this is a must on the TBR.
⭐️/4 love them.
🌶️/ 2.5 they were hot together.
💜/ 4(my own rating) the story was so heartfelt.

Received as an ARC and leaving my honest review voluntarily. Have been waiting for Grayden's story since the first time he was mentioned in the series and it did not disappoint! He has always been depicted as the one that caused the most mixed emotions in the series with the crime he had supposedly committed but was never fully explained. After more than a decade enstranged from his family, he is finally home trying to rebuild his relationship with his siblings. When the truth of what actually happened and the sacrifice he made for his family is revealed, it was heartbreaking.

Piper has always been part of the family, being best friends with Grace and has always had feelings for Grayden. His coming home has brought all those feelings to the surface despite how she tries to push them away. The chemistry and tension between Grayden and Piper was sizzling and I loved how she never judged him and how he was so conscious and empathetic about her and Ollie's feelings. From the start, they had an easy and open understanding and communication with each other, which all 3 needed to feel safe, wanted and loved. The way Grayden behaved with Ollie, as a steady male father figure who listened and was willing to be vulnerable with Ollie, showed what a healthy family relationship/dynamic should be and had me smiling and emotional.

At it's core, Homeward Colorado is about sacrifice, family, forgiveness, healing, second chances and love and it was the most perfectly satisfying, emotional and heartwarming end to this beautiful series!
