Once upon a time, a ruthless Snow Queen gets her happily ever after.
Ravenna rules her frozen court with a heart locked in ice and a will sharper than any blade. Feared for her cold magic and whispered beauty, she has spent years untouched, unmoved, and unimpressed—until the day she sets her sights on Prince Charming, the golden boy promised to Snow White. Stealing a prince should be child's play for a queen like her. But it’s not the pampered prince who intrigues her most—it's the loyal Huntsman.
When the Snow Queen’s wicked gaze falls on him, he doesn’t flinch. He challenges her, melts her defenses, and tempts her with a fierce, slow-burning passion that no magic can control. In a kingdom where loyalty can be bought, true love is a dangerous gamble. One icy queen. One defiant huntsman. One story rewritten.
Wicked Chill twists the tale of Snow White into a battle of heart and will, proving that sometimes, the coldest hearts burn the brightest.
This was such a fun read. I really enjoyed this authour’s retelling of Snow White! The characters are really well done, Snowwhite is this neat mix of sweet and cunning and you cannot help but like her! The queen, the huntsman and the Prince were also well done! Definitely not a fan of the prince! I thought this retelling was really well done , the world building was also well done and I felt that the flow and pace moved at a really comfortable speed. The combination of drama, spice and suspense makes for a very enjoyable read!
This is a fantastic spin on a Snow White and evil stepmother retelling. In a short novella you get depth to Raveena and her wolf Graham, with him being her only vulnerability. The story moves quickly and is detailed enough with a bit of spice to keep you hooked.
Queen Ravenna wants to stay Queen but with Snow set to marry Prince Charming that won’t happen. The only way to keep the crown is to marry Charming. But her heart has always been with one man, Graham Huntsman. Graham has loved the Ray a long time but he will not share her with anyone. Plans are hatched to kill Charming after she marries him. But nothing goes as its planned.
This is a really interesting twist to Snow White. Snow is happy and sweet as always but also cunning. Charming is a total fool. Think of the Charming from Shrek. He is that bit of a fool but thinks that seducing the Queen will make him King faster. Ray feels nothing for Charming and sees him for what he is, a fool. Graham would do anything for Ray but he needs her to see that the crown isn’t everything. Now if you have been reading the series, you know about Ariel and Aurora. These two pop into the mix here. And don’t you know, it is them that actually makes Ray see reason. The twist with Snow White and the dwarfs OMG. You will love it. I didn’t think that would happen. Yes, everyone did get their HEA, well except for Charming. This was a fun series to read.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Another delightful retelling from Ines. I am so enjoying this series and seeing the villain not so much as a villain, but as a person dealing with a set of circumstances they find themselves in, despite doing what is right or expected.
Oh, Ravenna, the Frost Queen who longs to melt under the scorching touch of Graham, who in turn loves her utter and unwavering desire to succumb to him completely, in stark contrast to the court and everyone else.
Fairytales seem like the rewriting of history, telling a sweet, neatly bow-wrapped patriarchal story to force-feed to young and impressionable youth, when really the books that Ines writes feel more plausible, more honest, real, and undeniable. Ravenna just wants to feel safe and secure, and her home is everything, giving her the foundation she needs to be strong, in a world where trust is a slippery slope and showing any weakness is fodder for those who would wrong you.
Snow just wants to find love, and not with the Prince, who is an arrogant, selfish, entitled prick, playing the field wherever he sees it benefiting him and his main-character energy, even when he is just a piece on the board for both Ravenna and Snow.
I could gush about these books, but instead I wholeheartedly suggest giving them a read.
Wicked Chill is a twist on the Snow White story that flips what you know about the "villain." Instead of the usual story, we get to see things from the perspective of Ravenna, the Snow Queen. She has a heart made of ice and rules her frozen kingdom with a very strategic hand. I enjoyed the polictics and games she played in the 'female only' court.
The romance is where things are a little different. While Ravenna has her eye on Prince Charming in order to keep her beloved castle, it is the Huntsman, Graham, who has her heart. Graham is loyal and protective, and he is the only one who isn’t afraid to be real with her. Unlike everyone else who is terrified of Ravenna’s magic, Graham understands her and supports her.
I really struggled to like Raveena as a love interest, I could see her connection with Graham, but I really couldn't oversee that she really was willing to marry anyone she needed to in order to keep her castle. I really felt sorry for Graham beacuse of this as he had to sit back and watch.
The story is fast-paced and a spicy. I enjoy the "wicked" character actually getting a chance at a happy ending. It also puts the spin on the princess and princes, showing that they might not always as wholesome and innocent as you first think.
Yes!! Finally a grown up fairytale that's like nothing i've ever read before. With the retelling of the clasic story snow white. With Raveena the queen of Everfrost who's life's goal is to keep her thrown at any cost. She's smart, cunning and knows how to get around a chess piece. So when Graham huntsman comes back after the troll wars. Sparks will definitely fly and Graham will show her what she's been missing. He's strong with a touch her and die vibes going on and definitely knows how to make Raveena feel in the best way possible. It's a fast paced story full of drama, suspence and definitely Pleanty of spice. Amazing characters thoughout the story that had me gripping to this world of fantasy. And i loved how each story can be read as a standalone but also shows a glimpse of past characters. An epic battle and a bomb shell of an ending which kind of has me wondering what's going to happen to snow white and her seven dwarfs and if we'll get to read about it. Along with a swoon worthy happy ending which i just loved.
This is a great retelling of the popular Snow White fairytale with a twist.
This book is told from the wicked stepmothers point of view. But is she actually so wicked? Raveena is definitely ruthless, after the death of her husband the King, the crown should pass to Snow White but Raveena is determined to do whatever it takes to keep her crown and castle even if it means stealing Prince Charming who seems poised to propose to Snow White. Graham is huntsman in this tale. The man who truly owns the Queens heart but she turned her back on him in favour of a crown, a castle and a Kingdom. When she tasks him with removing Snow White from the picture will he follow through? It seems he has his own agenda.
I loved this story, it turns everything from the story you know on it's head. The good become bad, the bad become good and maybe little Snow White isn't that innocent after all! I highly recommend this book
Thought Snow White was innocent? Think again. In this twist of a dark Disney retelling, Snow isn’t as good girl as everyone-especially Raveena- thinks. From the beginning, we meet Ravenna as this scheming Queen unwilling to let “her throne” go to a little girl unaware of the game of chess queens play. A widowed Royal: unmarried now AND without child, in a kingdom where child bearing women rule the realm, Ravenna makes the game hers, and uses her “pawns” accordingly. Ever the brilliant strategist, she develops a plot to ensure she keeps her throne, but what happens when her pawns play their own game? What if the opponents Ravenna thought were not as sharp as her…might just actually be matching her wit for wit, or even beating her at her own game?
Have you ever wanted an adult version of Disney's Villians books? Look no further! Even though this is the third book, it is a standalone and can be read without reading the other two.
In Wicked Chill we get the story of the evil stepmother, and I adored this version. You see another side of her, the things she endured to get the one thing she wanted: a home, a castle, security. You also see a woman who will do anything to keep it, but along the way realizes there might be more than four walls worth living for, and the route she thought she had to take might not be the right one after all.
MF
Spicy: 1.75/5
Triggers: Its a retelling of Snow White, and that was a dark fairytale.
Wicked Chill is a 3rd in a series of short retellings of Disney Stories. Which see the villains also getting their happily ever afters. This one is based on the Evil Queen from Snow White. This is my favourite of the three so far. It definitely had me questioning throughout the story who she would end up with the Huntsman or Prince Charming. King White is dead & the Evil Queen, Raveena is trying to remain Queen but to do so she must marry a Prince & bare a daughter or the Crown goes to the daughter of the former King, Snow White. Whilst the Queen is plotting little does she know so, is Snow White. I really enjoyed this retelling & I’m hoping that the mic drop moment that Ines Johnson dropped means Snow Whites story is next.
This is a retelling of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves like you have never seen. It focusing mainly on the Ice Queen and the games she plays to win a kingdom. It has all the characters you grew up with but with an awesome twist and I am all here for it. The Queen is everything you are led to believe but there is more to her that we see grow throughout the book. Snow White is not as innocent as we were all led to believe and the dwarves are not just there to rescue her. I love how the Huntsman is portrayed in this one and the savage protectiveness he possess. This is a quick read with a lot to unpack including a beautifully twisted retelling of an all time classic.
This is a wonderful retelling of Snow White. Ravenna is the queen that wants to keep her throne and castle, but her recently passed husband had a daughter and once she married she will be queen. Charming is playing both sides. Sliding into Raveena’s bed all the while getting closer to Snow. Raveena’s heart belongs to Graham, but she hides her true feelings because she is afraid to lose her throne. Raveena tries to eliminate the competition to her throne, but things are not as straight forward as they seem. This book ends with ALMOST everyone having happily ever afters. I can’t wait to read what’s next.
I really enjoyed Raveena's story. Her portrayal does not deviate from the cold and calculating woman that wants power and sitting on the throne, but beyong the chilly facade, much more is hiding. The game of queens she is playing with the other queens and Snow White is brilliant, just as Raveena's mind. Always stratgizing, always several steps ahead, always taking into account every event. I was a little bit sad we did not get to see Charming at the end at all, it would have been fun to watch after the conclusion. I also enjoyed the raw energy between Raveena and Graham, and had a lot of entertainment reading this fairytale retelling.
Another wicked fairytale reimagining from this author in this series. This time it’s the turn of Snow White and Queen Ravenna from the perspective of Queen Ravenna and the huntsman. No longer are we besotted with the handsome and charming Prince Charming, who in this book has the romance skills of a limp lettuce. In this book our heart belongs to the MMC the rough around the edges Huntsman who plays our body like the strings of his bow. Full of little witty one liners that are great, some good character work, and as with the rest of this series a really imaginative take on a well known tale. I’ve really enjoyed this series.
Wicked Chill brings readers right into our fairytale dreams and shows us the wonder that can come from a slight rewiring of our favorite fairytales. The Frost Queen Ravenna is looking for her Prince Charming and finds THE Prince Charming. What she doesn't expect is that the Huntsman is the one who will steal her heart. He is not frightened of her and instead challenges her. This is what she has been yearning for. The dynamic between her and Graham is certainly steamy. They are perfect for one another. I also liked seeing Snow White coming into her own and not just falling for the Prince. All in all, this was a wonderful fairytale retelling addition to the Wicked Evermore series!
I loved Ravenna and the Huntsman! I even loved Snow! Once again, the author has taken a classic and added a fresh twist. Ravenna gave her heart away long ago, just not to her king. When her king passes, of course she's looking for a way to keep her throne! Prince Charming is set to marry Snow, but there's so much more to the story! It was spicy and twisty! I love that we have the same main characters of the classic fairy tale, but in such a different way. We even get to see last characters again! I can't wait for the next story because I love this world!
The Snow Queen wants the crown jewel and in her mind that's the palace… So she schemes to get it… Everyone in and outside the palace seems to be hiding something, wanting something and they will do anything, say anything to get it.
As Ravenna, the Snow Queen, reaches for her desired goal, she remembers what her heart yearns for and they are not the same. The Huntsman is such an intriguing twist in this story. He is alluring, mysterious, and oh so hot. 🥵 Ravenna and the Huntsman together are everything!!
This fairy tale world with villains reimagined really rocks my world and I can't wait to see more!! Just absolute awesome sauce!!
Ravenna rules her Kingdom, while her stepdaughter, Snow, is looking to take over, or at least so it seems. Instead, Ravenna has a plot to steal Snow's soon to be bethroed, but her interests lie elsewhere, in a certain Huntman. There are so many plans going on, but none of them seems to work out the way they wanted them to.
This is an absolutely brilliant twist on Snow White. She's a lot more cunning than sweet, and Ravenna isn't as cold-hearted as we have all been led to believe.
Absolutely loved it and can't wait for the next Wicked story!
She's determined to keep her crown, a black cat type queen that will do anything to keep her crown. Raveena has plotted and planned and married the old king to secure herself a place. Even forsaking the one that loves her. For three years....now, her position unsecure again, she's plotting again with her eye on the young prince courting her stepdaughter. At least until the one she left behind comes back, and he's not going to let her go again. Love this strong women-first themed dark fairy tale where the villain gets her HEA.
Ines gives us a wonderful Snow White's story with a wicked twist!! Queen Ravenna rules without emotion and a determination to retain the crown and castle no matter what. Her stepdaughter looks like she's making a move on both, but not all is what it seems. With the queen's Huntsman returns from war we learn that despite the moves being done to retain the crown and castle, her heart lies elsewhere. Dive into this beautifully written story to find out how they get to their hard won HEAs. I loved reading this story and highly recommend it. Don't miss out on this book!!
This is the third book in the Wicked Evermore series. This is about Ravenna, the ice queen. Like the other two books, this story makes you look at the fairytale villain in a different light. Unlike the other two, this one did a nice job of making the evil princesses a motive and and wraps everything up nicely. I really enjoyed that her love was the huntsman and what they did with the Prince. Like all other stories from this author, it was a quick and very enjoyable read. I highly recommend.
'Wicked Chill', by Ines Johnson, is the third book in the 'Wicked Evermore' Series and I love it! I honestly didn't think that I would like this series as much as I do, but the creative way that we are challenged to see these old, fairy-tale, friends is remarkable! It totally bends what we have come to expect as the right way to remember these childhood staples and reimagines them in a way that freshens up the characters, stories and plots with a new adult, flavour! Loved this version of Snow White! Definitely in my re-read pile!
Another good fairytale retelling. We’ve got Snow White but from the queen’s PoV. Ravenna wants to remain the queen which means a not letting snow marry charming. She’s got no feelings for him and loves another who wouldn’t ever share her. And of course charming is a fool. I wanted to smack him so many times. Ray has no love for him. He is merely a means to an end for her. We all get to see some of the fairytale characters from the previous stories. I had a lot of fun with the twists and there’s some good emotional growth for these characters.
Of you’re a fan of fantasy fairytale retellings with a villain twist then you are going to need to devour this one for sure because Ines Johnson truly outdid herself with this one! Wicked Chill is a perfectly twisted tale and a non traditional take on Snow White and let’s just say Ravenna was absolute perfection as the Snow Queen! And toe Huntsman?!? Yes!!!! The fire and dynamics between these two was perfection. And just know that this one is so much more than just a mere slow burn twisted retelling. It was absolutely everything!
This book was such a great retelling. And I loved how she pulled it all together at the end. Queen Raveena is trying to keep her crown, Snow White is plotting her death, Prince Charming was a smarmy, pompous brat and Graham Huntsman just wanted his mate to choose him over her crown. Altogether they were perfect. Meanwhile Aurora and Ariel just wanted the happy ending of their choosing. This whole series was so fun to read. Ines did a great job giving these retellings a unique spin!
This is book three in the series, and I wasn't sure about it in the beginning. It quickly caught my interest and held it throughout the book.
I've never been one that like the whole "princess needs saving by the prince" bit. Ravenna is Snow's stepmom and Graham is the Huntsman. They're relationship is complex and hot! The story was great and the ending was definitely a surprise. Loved it!
I received this book as an advance copy for my honest review.
The story of the Wicked Queen and the Huntsman is a juicy one. She has her heart set on keeping her crown and her castle and he has his heart set on keeping her. Snow White wants the crown and the Wicked Queen gone, can she convince the Huntsman that she's the better future for the kingdom? Charming wants to be a king, who will be the quickest path toward that goal? Snow or Ravenna? Loved the ending, worth the read!
To be honest it took me a bit to get into this book but then, like a snowball down a mountain, it picked up speed until it was a runaway train to the ending. Unlike the other books in this series it wasn't obvious at the start who would end up with whom but the twists and turns were delicious. This book is a bit spicier than the others and, overall, has a bit of a darker vibe. I like this snow white retelling and feel it did a great job at making the queen really likeable.
This was an intriguing spin on the traditional Snow White tale. In this version the wicked stepmother isn't so wicked, she doesn't try to off Snow White but she does try to snare Prince Charming for herself! Although when the huntsman returns from fighting the trolls she is more interested in rekindling her romance with him! There were a few surprise twists in it and we re-meet some characters from earlier books in the series, which is always fun!
This spin on Snow White (and the wicked stepmother) was a fantastic retelling! Loved the other side, showcasing Charming more as a fool, and Snow was more of a cunning manipulator. At first anyway! That ending?! Did not see any of that coming, it was such a wonderful twist! With Snow White, Ariel, Aurora, Ravena, the dwarves....amazing, lol. The Huntsman was also extra drool worthy! He did not want to share Ravena, and whew, did he give good reasons! Loved this grown up fairytale!
