About the author

John Morris Roberts, CBE, was a British historian, with significant published works. From 1979-1985 he was Vice Chancellor of the University of Southampton, and from 1985-1994, Warden of Merton College, Oxford. He was also well known as the author and presenter of the BBC TV series The Triumph of the West (1985).

I am interrupting my studies to write this review because J.M. Roberts is nearly making me weep tears of joy. This book is a GOLDMINE. It is the ultimate help for anyone studying history, especially at IB. It explains everything concisely but comprehensively. It has a page on everything you need, and explores it with great detail and nuance. I always start with this book when essay planning. The only thing I can lament is perhaps the lack of attention to women in history, but I suppose this is understandable as (at least the copy I have) is not very recent. Do yourself a favour and get yourself a copy, it will absolutely save your life.
