Be the one to make a difference in your students’ thinking! With more than 100 games to choose from, Brain Food is your one-stop source for exploring the fun in learning. This compilation is filled with new as well as traditional games, and most need little more than paper and pencil to get you started. Each game is classroom tested and tailored toward enhancing the intelligences of your students.
Games by their very nature require thinking. With Brain Food you’ll get teaching tools such as "Alphamazement"—a game of strategy that combines the visual and verbal intelligences by having players connect letters of the alphabet in a zigzagging maze. Or try the traditional Maori game "Mu-Torere" to enhance visual and mathematical intelligence.
This book has plenty of classic games as well as variations on checkers and chess. I just loved the oraganization (chase games, spatial games, logic games, chess variations, etc.).
Just about all of these games have some real value (games that make kids think) and even though there is a photocopy of a game board that can be used for each game, my kids like to make their own based on the template provided. I found that with some paper, pencil, and checkers, we can do a MILLION different fun things.
My 8 year old's class studied Africa, and there were at least 5 traditional African games of different types (mancala, of course, was one).
I think that teaching kids games and puzzles is a fun and valuable way to spend time (and avoid TV), and this book will get your family (or school club?) off to a great start!
