Incredible world building, fantastic characters, and a plot that makes it impossible to put Tremor down.

I really enjoy dystopian novels such as The Hunger Games, Divergent, and Delirium. From the opening pages of Tremor, it was clear that this story was going to be up there with the best of them.

Ryan is a very skilled writer. You don't register that you are reading words, you just feel as if the story is unfolding before you. When you do notice sentences, it's because they are beautifully written.

Every character feels real. I took an instant liking to several of them and by the end of the novel, I was in love and desperately wanted to spend more time with these fascinating and unique characters! I was incredibly sad to put the book down at the end.

The story is fast paced and original, with twists and turns that you do not see coming. You will laugh and cry and think about the world we live in and the possibility of it all falling apart around us.

A wonderful first novel. I cannot wait for the rest of the books in The Tremor Cycle, and I will read anything Ryan Mark releases in the future!

5 stars!

This debut novel is brilliant.

Ryan Mark has written a book that is both wonderfully written and refreshing. It holds the essence of other popular books in this genre, while having its own unique story and standing out among those other books. I loved the fact that the book's main character is a young boy that has to grow up while the world is crumbling around him. (I don't read many books with male protagonists, but this book made me want to start reading more.) William is a complex character on a journey to save someone he loves and I enjoyed every minute of it!

This book has both a great plot and great characters. Tremor is action packed, emotional, and a bit inspirational. There is great world building that sets up for what I believe will be an amazing series. There is a great cast of characters as well. (Althea and Ori were my favorites besides Will!) You can't help but root for them to succeed in beating down the evil they are up against!

If you enjoy well written post-apocalyptic/dystopian stories with great characters on an epic journey to save the world from evil, definitely check this one out!

I am eagerly awaiting Tremor's sequel!

I must admit that dystopian fiction or indeed YA isn't my normal cup of tea, but to be honest, after the first couple of chapters, I was drawn into the post-apocalyptic world created by Ryan Mark. There are the odd anachronisms that may or may not be intentional, but they serve as useful tools to firmly cement the impending sense of doom and helplessness to the present.

Mark's protagonist William is a young man that has grown up years before his time, struggling to get by in a harsh environment with his peers, however, he only grows stronger in his tenacity and will to succeed in the quest to save his mother and overthrow the evil Terrafall corporation. For such a short book, Mark has managed to pack a lot of content in. I shall keep a close eye out for the follow-up!

Tremor by Ryan Mark
First of all, i’d like to thank the author for giving me the opportunity to read his book in exchange of a review. Tremor is the first book in the Tremor Cycle and it was published September 22nd 2014 by Britain’s Next Bestseller. All the links to buy the book will be down below because I like to support debut authors.
This book is a Post-Apocalyptic Dystopian that talks about William and the life he knew has gone. The book focuses a lot on this important event called The Fossil War. After this event, some tremors happen and William will have to live on the fear of how much of a caos the next Tremor will cause. Are Terrafall’s intentions good or bad? //read to find out!//
Focusing on the characters, William is a fantastic brave boy that you will love to know more and more about this life. It’s super enjoyable to be around in the book because you see that he’s passionate about what he’s trying to do. Can we just talk about how strong he is? The world is basically falling apart and he’s doing everything to stop it, let’s remember that’s he just a teenager. I felt connected to William a lot because of what he’s been trough and how he has reacted to it. William is an awesome independent character and I’m super excited to find what twists and turns William’s life will have to go trough on the 2nd book called Fracture (coming out October 1st).
The writing is written in such a nice action-packed way that you’ll finish the book and kinda cry because want more of it. It has some perfectly written descriptions that will totally make you soak into William’s world and that is fantastic. And those quotes at the end made me want to pray for the second book to arrive faster. Some scenes in the book were written so well that you had to stop, take a deep breath, and continue. I’m super “hungry” for more of this great writing on book 2.
I will recommend this book to everyone who loves a good action-packed dystopian and all the links about the author and the book will be down below.

4/5 - Highly entertaining and thought-provoking, so definitely a dystopia that I’d recommend. For a début novel, it’s undeniably impressive.

Thoughts:
1. The characterisation of the main characters was very well done - from the very beginning I connected with William, who is extremely determined and strong-willed. His attitude to this post-apocalyptic situation is admirable, but it doesn't feel unrealistic either, despite his age. Althea and Ori were two other amazing characters that I also supported from the first introduction of them!
2. The plot’s full of action and intensity, with many twists and turns which kept me hooked. From the very first page I loved where the plot was going, and with the cliff-hangers at the end of a lot of the chapters, I had no option but to keep reading. It’s definitely as gripping as some of the other very famous dystopian novels.
3. The concept of the oppressive company Terrafall raised many important themes and issues that are completely relevant to today’s society; what if an evil organisation took over everything good in the world and restricted our freedom and control? Definitely very eye-opening. I'm sure this will be developed even further in Ryan Mark’s future books.
4. A fluent writing style - very easy to read, particularly because of the balance of description and dialogue. Although I don’t think the writing style is as distinct or poetic as that of other writers I've read before, for such an action-packed book, this perhaps works best. You can zoom through the words without needing a long time to take things in, allowing the action to play out in your head without the writing feeling disjointed in any way.

This book was amazing!!

Could you imagine if your world was being destroyed by constant Tremors? Tremors caused by the earth fighting back from the war.

This is what William is dealing with right now. The life he knew has gone, now they have to live in fear of what the next Tremor will bring. One night brought his reality crashing down on him when he came home to find his mother had been abducted. His mother was his whole life and he needed to find her, he'd tear the world apart if he had too.

I loved William, he's a strong, lovable character. I love the passion he throws into finding his mother, he doesn't let anything or anyone stop him. He has guts!! I also adored his best friend, Althea. Now she's a feisty chick who doesn't take any crap, she has balls! Love that!!

Ryan Mark's style of writing is smooth and very easy to get caught up in, the world he's created, feels so real. From the first few pages I was hooked.

This book has an addictive storyline, it's fast paced, action packed, the characters are wonderfully developed, never ending twists and turns and it draws out your emotions. I know I sniffled a few times.

Ryan Mark has produced a brilliant debut novel and I know I won't be the only one waiting in line for the next installment. I look forward to seeing where he'll take the characters to next. ^_^

“Tremor” is thrilling! From the very first word through to the very last it kept me in suspense. There wasn’t a single boring moment- seriously! I kind of expected for the story to slump and I couldn’t have been more wrong to unjustifiably presume! Descriptions of characters, locations and emotions were just right- not too long and dragged out; not too short to leave me wishing for more. Every chapter brought new surprising twists and turns and before I noticed- I had read the last page!

Set in a post apocalyptic world, this I an interesting story about a boy who's mother has been kidnapped, and he goes on a journey to save her. Intriguing characters and an ending that leaves me excited to read the next installment!

This book is about William who has found his world shattered and taken over by a group called Terrafall. Its a world where it no longer feels like Earth, barely any food, barely any green land, and the feeling of not being able to trust anyone or feel safe, even in his own house!

William and his friend Althea (what a great name) decide to do something about this after both losing people they love, the story follows from here. The book is aimed at young adult, dystopian genre. Although aimed at young adult, I’m not (that) young and still loved it.

Ryan Mark is a very talented and imaginative Author, he has come up with a story that is an exciting page turner. It gripped me as a reader from the first chapter, wanting to know who are the bad guys, what will they do next and how will William ever feel safe again.

The characters are great, I was taken by William and Althea straight away. William has a journal of his fathers, and while reading it at school, someone says this to him:

“Poor William and his unnatural love of books”

Ooh, now that is a sure way to make us booklovers really not like the bad guys in this story!!

The Author managed to keep a good balance between being young heroes and still being children in his writing. He writes the innocence of a child, when talking about about death as in ‘gone to paradise‘ Ori asks ‘can we go there too?‘ I think its important in young adult books to keep in mind that the characters are children despite being in adventurous situations, and Ryan Mark did this very well.

The Authors description work really puts a picture in your head, I love the way he writes, so heartfelt and engaged.

“Giving up is like sitting in a puddle while its raining. Pointless and painful”

As we get further on in the book, we see Terrafall get darker and scarier. I won’t tell you what they did and their cultish ideas, but I feel the way the Author dealt with these storylines was very clever. I thought that the way the main characters William and Althea spoke of these things was intelligent and moral. It reminded me of how easily people can be influenced by people who seem powerful. I really commend the Author for this part of the book.

“..it didn’t take long for the people who manage Terrafall to go along with Erisia, so what’s to stop others believing?”

The book is full of good morals and although these morals and doing the right thing is not a blatant part of the storyline, its just the bits that stuck out for me, as in the underlying thoughts when I was enjoying the story.

“Fight for what’s right. That’s what everyone should do.”

There are some great quotes that really stuck out for me, and while I was reading the book, I stopped and thought about the things the characters were saying, for the story, but also for me too. I think Ryan Mark is very talented and his ability to write great stories, great characters and make me think about myself too. I really am looking forward to reading more of his work.

“Stuff you can’t see hurts the most, like love”

A really great book, by a talented Author.

I don't normally read dystopian books, but thought I would give it a read. It follows the story of William, who I think is 15. The world is recovering from fossil war leaving the planet suffering terrible tremors. People have started to go missing and when William's mum disappears leaving a pool of blood in her Kitchen, William and his best friend Althea go on a mission to find his mum and to stop Terrafall who they think are behind all the dissapearance.

The story didn't really grip me at first, I think this was mainly because I haven't really read this type of book before. But has I got through each chapter, I couldn't wait to read the next one.

The best part of the book is the very end. I love a book with a good ending and this one was great. Overall this book wasn't my normal cup of tea, but I did enjoy reading it and will be reading the next book in the series. As it is a YA book, it's more of a book I think my eldest son would enjoy reading in a year or two.

I give it a 3.5/5 stars.

Any fan of dystopian novels will find this book a firm favourite!

I do not read much dystopian novels but I am glad I pick this one up to start my new year reading. This is a very well written Dystopian adventure, a strong rival to the big players in this genre (Hunger Games and Divergent, to name a few), and the characters really did make it come alive for me. I felt like I was living with them as I read each page. Ryan Mark has done an incredible job to make them jump out of the pages, and you really feel as though you are there with them in the story.

William is a brilliant main character and I was immediately drawn into the Dystopian world through his eyes, and because I was there with him, I desperately wanted him to succeed in his journey! The other characters, such as the strong and brave Althea, wise Ichabod, and caring Igraine (there are others and I've only named my favourites here!) all add to the adventure and make it a story well worth picking up and reading.

Everyone who reads this will gain a new friend after reading, I can guarantee it, so please don't pass on this brilliant book!

Post-apocalyptic novels seem to be ten a penny these days but Tremor stands out from the crowd because it is chillingly believable. There are no zombies or super-intelligent robots and the world as we know it hasn't been destroyed by aliens or an enormous meteorite. The damage has been done by The Fossil War, a global conflict brought on by the near exhaustion of the world's fossil fuels, which has left all major governments and cities wiped out and the earth wracked by powerful and destructive tremors.

Time well spent

I enjoyed reading this book, but I think that the author tried to spend too much time toward the end of it developing his next book, instead of spending the time on the end of this book. It is rather like watching someone lose focus and go blank. . It kind of ended weirdly. It was is if the author decided okay, that's all I'm gonna put in this book so I can get ready for another book to make money . I think the author needs to stop and think about actually developing and writing out his books is a sequence of events that kind of stand together instead of dropping it in the middle . But I did enjoy reading it

Dystopian fiction isn't something I'd really heard of before Tremor, but I had to pick this book up and I'm glad I did. It was the best reading decision I've ever made. Tremor was a fantastic read, I just couldn't put it down. When I wasn't reading it, it felt like the story was going on without me, so I had to pick it up again! Turning every page was exciting, and left me wanting more. From William to Ichabod, I loved the characters! Such beautifully written and amazing read that should be on all people's book shelves. 5 huge stars.

This is Ryan Marks first published book and an amazing read the characters and the story vision is amazing as well. The story is Post Apocalyptic and different than any others I have read. I can visualize each scene in the book as if I were standing right there with them. I recommend this to anyone that loves the Dystopian genre. Thanks for such a great book Ryan

In a world destroyed by unusual bombs children who have lost their loved ones (adults suffering similar losses) are faced with the decision of what to do to survive in a world determined to destroy them. The children join with some adults to set the world right again. Action from the beginning begins like a small snowball and ends up being a tsunami!

ALS is a cruel disease.. I was diagnosed of ALS in 2019, I stopped some of my ALS medications due to severe side effects and I started on ALS herbal natural treatments from VineHealth Center (Visit vinehealthcenter. com), the treatment has made a very huge difference for me. My symptoms including weakness, difficulty swallowing and slurred speech disappeared after few months on the treatment. I am getting active again since starting this treatment program

An enjoyable post-apocalyptic novel. I enjoy these types of books in which the main character is a young adult who takes it upon him- or herself to try to find the solution the problem when the adults don't seem to think there is a solution. I'll definitely have to read any sequels that may be published.
