What better book to read at the most festive time of the year as well as being written by one of my favourite authors.

Meg hasn’t had an easy time of it, a single parent bringing up her four year old son. She works in a bakery, yep, get ready for lots of baking and food talk that will have you drooling with the wonderful images, of which is opening a branch in New York.

I’ve never been to New York but the author brings it to life and what better time to be transported there but in the lead up to Christmas. Here we get to meet the love interest of who I couldn’t help but fall ever so slightly in love with also.

Obviously the course of true love never runs smoothly and we see Meg having to deal with what life throws her way. There are some wonderful characters, from the people who took her in when she was at her lowest and the wonderful Guy who she works with at the bakery.

Christmas For One is a festive and enjoyable read that reminds us what is important in life. Whilst it may be a story with romance, this was a lot more. The relationships between Meg and the different characters were what really appealed to me. How friends can become more than just family. A story with a deeper meaning.

Amanda Prowse - En juledrøm // Christmas For One

Meg grew up as a foster child and swore that when she got her own children she would always be there for them and love them endlessly. As an alone mother her biggest priority is Lucas and his well-being. She loves her little boy and wants him to have the perfect Christmas. On a job trip to New York Meg meets Edd and falls head over heels for him. She might just have met him, but she’s sure he’s the one for her. But how can she have a relationship with Edd in NY and take care of Lucas in London?

Ah, the feeling of sinking into a new book by Amanda is like a warm hug. The story envelops you in a cozy state of mind where you just enjoy every written word. I adore Amanda’s books and always love diving into a new tale by her. My lovely friend Ida gifted me this book because she and I are both massive fans of Amanda and this book is nearly impossible to find in any bookstores in Norway. So thank you so, so much Ida ♥️

I’m usually not fond of instalove, but in this story I enjoyed it. Technically Meg and Edd get off on a wrong note, and I have to admit I didn’t like him upon the first meeting either. However he was much more likeable at the second encounter, as her colleague of sorts. They had a whirlwind romance and hit every monumental milestone in a relationship in three days. It was so adorable how he showed her New York and made her the happiest she’s been in a long time. Though it only was a few days, it felt like much longer. They opened up for each other like never before and became confidants so quickly.

Amanda is excellent at writing family relations and this novel was no exception. My heart ached for Meg at a certain point of the book because she so dearly wanted to believe in a relative only to be let down and betrayed again. The strengt of this woman is admirable after being hurt again and again but still standing and trying to be the best she could. There was a lot of other heartwarming found family moments as well.

I dreaded the third act and when it came, it hurt. I hadn’t expected the revelation and felt so bad for Meg. The ending might’ve been a little too simple for me, an easy solution, but I got a happy ending and I’m pleased with that. There’s wasn’t much Christmas in the book, but I still got all the fuzzy, warm feelings.

This was my first book by Amanda Prowse and I quite enjoyed it. It took me a while to get in to the flow of the book because the first few chapters seemed a bit "busy" but after that I was totally captivated. My heart broke for poor Meg and everything she had to go through. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a sweet romance and does not mind a good cry.

I won this book on Goodreads in exchange for an honest opinion.
I think it has a beautiful cover, BUT...I could not get into the story. It moved really slow for me. I liked the story premise but it just didn't work for me. I kept losing interest.

I love a festive read in the countdown to Christmas and I chose this as I have previously read A Little Love from the No Greater Love series where Meg is initially introduced through Pru's love story.

This book fills you with love and the magic of Christmas early on, you then go through a whirlwind of emotions following the love story of young Meg whilst waiting to see if it will have a happy ending or if she is indeed destined to never experience the true love she craves.

I really enjoyed this book and I didnt want it to end, a fantastic book that can be read both individually or as a follow on in the No Greater Love series

Megan falls in love with Edd and Edd falls in love with Megan. Then things go wrong; life gets worse. Can they sort it out and live happily ever after? A beautifully written romance with some great characters: the exuberant Lucas; Milly, Pru and Chris; Isabel, Brenda, Guy and the awful Laura. Plus a wonderfully described New York setting. This is my first Amanda Prowse read, but it won't be my last. Perfect for reading by the pool. I loved it.

2,5 stars

At the beginning of my review, I should probably admit that I didn't realise that this book will be so romance-heavy, hence my lower rating.

It wasn't a bad book, it's just that I like to have a bit more "substance" in the stories I read. It also felt super unrealistic, although overall the romance was sweet and fluffy. What I did like was Meg's relationship with her son Lucas, and her friendship with Millie and Pru. Most of the characters were likeable, though I'd like them to be a bit more developed, including the main characters.

However, I understand that it's supposed to be sweet romance story, with some Christmas elements. It's not fully my cup of tea but I enjoyed it in a way.

Pros:
- Fast paced - cannot fault this book or claim it is slow at all
- Quick overview of background of heroine - I much prefered the chapter or two at the start of the novel that gave the context of her family than flashbacks. Glad Prowse opted for the first option.
- Lovely side characters - nice to see older quirky characters.

This was my first book by Amanda Prowse and I was not quite prepared for the amount of dialogue. It was very much driven by the dialogue and added to the insta-love trope it fell a little flat in establishing the connection between the characters. We were told through dialogue that they liked each other but I couldn't see it any other way.

I am not a fan of the type of reveal that was made during the second trip to NY. I think that yes, it was needed to provide some sort of complication to the story but I felt it could have been more problematic and required more than what did happen to resolve the situation.

I have 'Will You Remember Me?' and look forward to reading more from this author now that I am a bit more used to her style of writing.

I would definitely grab one of her other Christmas books next year.

I didn't like this at all, mainly because of the rushed and annoying romance that makes up the beginning and end of the book.
The middle section is just boring and it wasn't very Christmassy at all.

1/5 on the Christmassness scale. Do not reccomend.

I always look forward to Amanda’s novels and so I was particularly excited about Christmas For One. I think the cover is stunning and I couldn’t wait to get started!

Meg always dreamed of the perfect Christmas but never had one as a child. This year she can make it come true for her own little boy Lucas – turkey, a tree, a stocking – everything to make a wonderful Christmas! Who cares if there’s no man in the picture? But a chance meeting with a stranger in New York unravels her plans…will Meg get everything she’s wished for and the Christmas she has always wanted?

I absolutely loved this! Amanda is a favourite author of mine and I love the way that she draws you in straight away to the story so that you feel like you are part of it yourself. I was swept up in this wonderful story ad I didn’t put it down once!

I was so thrilled to be able to get to know Meg and Lucas more! I really love Meg, and over the course of the novel she came to be like a best friend for me. I loved her personality and I desperately wanted a happy ending for Meg and for her to get everything she had ever dreamed of. Lucas is brilliant and really adorable, he makes a fantastic addition to the story!

I don’t want to spoil what is a truly beautiful and emotional story, so please read it! Christmas For One is romantic, heartwarming and the perfect festive read this Christmas!

Well, I´ll attempt to point out the things I did enjoy about the book. I liked what happened in London. I liked Meg´s job, her friends who became her family, and I especially liked her son, Lucas. And that is kind of where it ends.

Firstly, I don´t care how much of a bad day Edd had had the day he insulted Meg in the deli. He behaved like an idiot and I don´t think someone who treats people this way, can turn out to be a decent person. Additionally, some reviews talk about the delicious food that was consumed within this book and I am a bit confused. I am all for female characters in books eating as often and as much as they like and not chasing after unrealistic ideals that blink at us from the covers of magazines, but come on, Meg´s diet is awful. Anything that´s not deep fried, dipped in mayo or has bacon added to it?! In real life she would surely end up with high cholesterol and high blood pressure...

Also, I didn´t like the "a year later". It was too neat and tidy for my liking and simply felt forced.

Why do I still give it two stars? Because I think the author is a good writer and there were a few very lovable characters in the story.

I have not read any books by Amanda Prowse before but, after finishing this book, I will go back and read them all. Apparently this is the fifth in a series ( No Greater Love) and I would be interested to read the others.

I really liked Meg and her lovely young son, Lucas, who has suffered a huge tragedy in her life. She and Lucas both live above Plum's Patisserie where the owners (Pru and Milly) have apparently taken her under their wing.

On a trip to the new New York store she meets the absolutely fantastic Edd and within days they fall madly in love. She has to return home and promises to keep in touch but misses him so much she decides to fly back to him to spend Christmas with him.

I won't go into any more details expect to say if you don't want anything too heavy, this this would be perfect.

The book is just a lovely, gentle romance peppered with some heartache along the way, and it was perfect for the Christmas season.

I am looking forward to revisiting Plum's Patisserie very soon.

Just finished another #goodread by the fab @MrsAmandaProwse, so pleased I found this author, as I have loved every book so far, and look forward to reading thru the rest of my list. This book as all Amanda's books are , was such a page turner , you didn't want to put it down, as usual there was emotional parts in there , although I think Amanda's books should come with a warning as I keep getting caught out crying in public with these books lol, there are also parts that made you laugh too. Well done Amanda. Keep up the good work.

The novel itself is okay, well written with an engaging emotional story. Rates low because this is supposed to be, at least a little bit, a romance and I found the romantic hero to be horrible!

MIŁOŚĆ NA ŚWIĘTA?
Niezwykła cukiernia, opisy słodkości wzbudzające chęć sięgnięcia po jakieś ciasteczko i nieprawdopodobna historia miłosna. Meg wyrusza do Nowego Jorku by koordynować prace nad otwarciem nowej cukierni i tam poznaje Edda - charyzmatycznego architekta.
Dlaczego?

Do książek o tematyce typowo świątecznej podchodzę inaczej niż do codziennych lektur.

Świąteczne marzenie to książka o świętach i zdecydowanie utrzymana w takim klimacie.

I always like to read books based around the festive season around Christmas and new year so when I saw this at the library I decided it would tick that box well.

Meg has finally found a family albeit they don't actually belong to her. The Aunt and cousin of her ex fiancé have taken her under their wing and finally she has a job she's gone at and a home she loves. The one thing she is missing is a partner to share it with so when she is asked to travel to New York to help with the opening of their branch of café and runs into Edd, sparks well and truly fly. When after only a couple of days they have to go their separate ways Meg still feels the pull to Edd and wants to make a long term plan. As with all good love stories not everything is as it seems and this couple has to pull apart to be able to come back together.

Like any love story there is an element of predictability in this book. Girl meets Boy when she least expects it, falls head over heels and then finds out a great big shocking secret although I have to admit I did not predict what this secret was, I knew as a seasoned romance reader that not everything would be quite as simple as it seemed but not quite what the obstacle would be.

Meg was very easy to like and I did find myself rooting for her throughout the story. Edd also seems to be very sweet and straight forward to start with. I did find myself disliking him when we find out what the secret was, because I'm quite a black and white person and I feel he misled Meg in a lot of ways and was very unfair. Meg's little boy Lucas was delightful and I found myself smiling whenever he was around.

Although there were elements of festiveness in this book it didn't give me a real Christmassy feeling that I was expecting. New York was described beautifully though and as someone that has never been but is desperate to it did really bring it to life for me and I could imagine myself walking the streets and seeing the things Meg did which was awesome.

I didn't realise that this was 5th in a series. I don't know if you need to read them in order but as someone that prefers to start from the beginning I am a little bit gutted that I haven't read them in order.

I still found myself enjoying this book and I was eager to keep turning the pages to discover where our characters ended up. I would definitely recommend for someone looking for an easy, quick read.

Oh my word this book!! It broke my heart and then put it back together again. It was such a rollercoaster of emotions and I was completely absorbed by it.⠀

💫Synopsis💫⠀
“As a child, Meg always dreamed of the perfect Christmas.....⠀

This year she wants to make it come true for her little boy. She wants the whole hog. Tinsel, huge tree and stockings hung by the fire. Who cares that her dream scenario includes the perfect doting husband....she and Lucas have got this on their own. ⠀

But when she travels to New York for work, a chance meeting with a stranger makes all of her resolve disappear. Could she finally get the Christmas that she always dreamed of as a child? Or will she be alone for Christmas after all?”⠀

I throughly enjoyed this book. Meg had the most horrendous upbringing and as a mother myself it is completely unimaginable.....my heart went out to her from the very first chapter. As an adult, and now mother herself, she wants to give her son everything that she never had......a stable family.⠀

Christmas for One is so beautifully written. I felt so many emotions throughout and Meg is so self deprecating that my heart instantly went out to her. I was rooting for her the whole time, and her strength of character was wonderful. ⠀

Amanda Prowse writes in the most descriptive way, and when the story heads to New York I can imagine it so well, even though I’ve never been. ⠀

All in all a wonderful modern day love story that was deeply moving. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me! ⠀
