Dalton Black, a Canis lupis full of guilt and anger, never expected to find his true mate. Perhaps already slipping into madness, he had resigned himself to the fact that he would walk the earth without the other half of his soul. He was convinced that his sins where enough to keep the Great Luna from giving him such a blessing. He knew it was probably better that way. His past was as dark as his name and after three centuries of running from it, the memories were finally catching up to him. But all of those resignations evaporated when he saw her broken and bloodied body lying on that altar. Though the man didn’t recognize her, the wolf did. Through battle and bloodshed he was able to save her from the evil that held her captive, but now he would need her to save him from himself.
Jewel Stone was wholly unaware of the ancient bloodlines of Gypsy Healers, mates to Canis lupis and protectors of the packs—much less that she carried that blood herself. But when a beautiful but deadly woman showed up in her home and ripped her from her realm, she knew her life would never be the same. Her mother, Gem, a fortune teller, had warned her that something was coming, that her life was about to change dramatically, but like everyone else, Jewel had dismissed her as a crazy person. Jewel was the laughing stock of her school simply because Gem was her mother. And up until now, her life was one big disappointment after another. Instead of heeding her mother’s warning, she hid in her books, burying herself behind knowledge, both fact and fiction. She escaped into worlds created by others and filled her mind with facts of every kind in an effort to push away the hurtful words that others bombarded her with. Despite all of her knowledge and all of her fantastical stories, she never dreamed her own future would be full of adventure, danger, passion and the possibility of unconditional love. As she lay unconscious after her first bloody encounter in the fae realm, her only chance of survival lay in the hands of a man scarred by his past, disfigured both emotionally and physically, and beyond the reach of any who had tried to help him. Can two broken people, who carry the other half of each other’s souls span the chasm between them and restore the innocence ripped from both their lives? Will they let the promise of healing love overcome the difference in age and experience, and the separation of species and realms? Or will they give in to the fear and doubt that would keep them from one another for eternity?
Hello, Readers. My name is Quinn Loftis and I am lucky enough to call myself a novelist. In 2011, I self-published my first novel, Prince of Wolves with no expectations, other than my friends and family might purchase the book out of pity. Now, several years later, with 30+ novels and counting under my belt, Prince of Wolves had been downloaded over 1 million times. Though I was hesitant at the time to submit my work to the world for their scrutiny, I'm so glad I did. It made my dream of making a living by telling stories a reality.
I'm blessed to share my household my wonderful husband of more than twenty years (who also co-writes with me on occasion), three beautiful sons, a French Bulldog, and an oversized tabby cat. I love hearing from readers, so if you have any questions about the books or my journey, don't hesitate to hit the 'Contact Quinn' in the menu above. Thank you so much for taking a chance on my books.
I will tell you this only one time: I CANNOT WAIT FOR MORE. I WANT IT AND NOW. I'm tired to be left with cliffhangers, I swear that sometimes I don't want to read series that aren't finish because of it. But anyways, I read this book and I sort of do not regret it because it was an AMAZING read. I just wish it were more long. Comparing with other books, this one was short, at least for me. I want know more, I want to know what happens next and the waiting is killing me.
Obviously, the book continues where the last one left us. I like the new characters, but I miss the old ones because they didn't appear. I like the new scenes, and even jokes. But I disagree in so many levels on some things. Such as the ending, yes. I'm used to read a happy ending, but with something that has not been resolve and will be in the next book. I miss that. I dislike how much the Jewel problem escalated, damn, poor girl. I dislike that Kara is underage, you will understand while reading the book. And I totally dislike that the unmated wolves couldn't meet the gypsy healers in this book. I'm sure s hell waiting for the next book to see how that goes.
Apart from that I recommend the book for people who want a good laugh, drama and love story. Hell, I recommend all the books in the two series. Quinn Loftis is a great author and shouldn't stop writing.
"Content Sigh", another Quinn book! I could NOT WAIT to read this book and I was NOT disappointed! Quinn, is just an amazing author! She makes those Alpha males irresistible and those spunky girls make me wish I could be them, even if only for a day.
This book is darker than any of the rest BUT that's a good thing! It's still as wonderful as her other stories but yet different enough to hold reader's attention and get them wanting more.
Dalton is the epitome of the strong and silent type. But what made him that way??? You have to read to find out. Also, I love, love Jewel and her ability to spout out "the facts" (at sometimes the strangest of times). And they FINALLY "meet", WOW!
I was most blown away by Dalton's back story, out of all the characters Quinn has written, his story was the most powerful (to me). I didn't see it coming and I would suspect you won't either. It just makes me cheer for Dalton and Jewel all the more!
You get some scenes of the other males and healers and will any of them find true mates??? Hmm.... Excited yet? Only a few more days and you will know the answers!!! I will say I hung on to those scenes wanting more and more. Loved.it!
You will be as blown away as I was I'm sure! Enjoy and join me in my impatience for book 3 in this series! I just know it's going to be awesome! I cannot wait for it.
Quinn goes a little darker with this book - and I love it. This is more of a NA than a YA, but it is still pretty clean (this is Quinn we are talking about after all). However some of the story has some very hard to talk about subject matter, because life isn't always sunshine and roses. Sometimes a person has to go through the dark to find the light and I believe this is a really good story of how there can be redemption. I also felt that there are are a few powerful truths given here, such as you cannot assume what you see is what really is. Some of you may be going 'huh?' after reading that statement, but once you've read the book, I believe you will understand what I'm saying.
My favorite quote from the book is this:
"You have no control over the future. What you do have is the right now. You have this moment and that is all you have. You are promised nothing more. That is what our lives are, a collection of moments. You can make those moments worthy of the life your Creator gave you by selflessly giving them to someone else, or you can hold onto those moments using them to wallow in things you can do nothing about."
~~~
What I liked about the book: I liked that we got away from all the fantasy and got a little gritty. I thought that Quinn did a very good job of showing that people can have a horrific past, but it doesn't have to be who they are, it can be who they were - or what they went through.
I love me some Dalton! He is just so real and raw. He may not be full of witty banter all the time, but he is just honest to the point that he breaks your hear.
What I didn't like about the book: This is my typical answer when reading one of Quinn's books - she ended it and it wasn't all wrapped up, and I didn't have all the answers. I have accused her of being a tad evil where endings are concerned.
Would I recommend this book: Yes! There are some dark moments, but it isn't the whole of the book, and those moments are handled well.
This is one of the best books I have read in a while. I liked the fact the book was a little darker and grittier than the last books. I liked dalton and jewel's story. I look forward to the rest of the series and reading about the other healers and their mates.
*please note that if you have not read the prior books in the Grey Wolves series, there might be some spoilers up ahead. The first book, Prince of Wolves, is currently free at most eBook retailers.
I am a big fan of Quinn Loftis' Grey Wolves series. Whenever one of her new books come out, I tend to drop whatever it is that I am currently reading at the moment, and start on her book right away. I have become deeply invested in the world that she's created and her characters have become like a second family to me. In case you don't know, The Healers series is a spin-off to the Grey Wolves series. It takes place in the same world, however, we get to meet some new faces. We also get more time with Costin and Sally, who are my favorite characters in either series! By the way, I'm claiming Costin as my book boyfriend, just so you all know ;) When we last left Peri and the gang, one of our new gypsies, Jewel, was not doing so well. Dalton was in a sense of denial and had been dealing with some deep issues. Wolf of Stone takes place soon after, Into the Fae, left off, and it had somewhat of a different vibe than Quinn's other books. Both of the main characters have some difficult issues that they are struggling with, and have experienced so much pain in their lives. Even though this book is not told in first person point of view, I really felt what Dalton was thinking and what he went through. My heart really went out to him because I felt his struggle. As I mentioned, we get to meet some new characters in Wolf of Stone. I'm looking forward to getting to know them a little more! I love that each of Quinn's characters are so different, and often provide comic relief. I was kind of bummed when it was over because 1) I was super invested in the story, and 2) there were three things I was dying to know. I have faith that Ms. Loftis will address these in her next Gypsy Healers book. I know I cannot wait to read it!
More action, adventure, love, and sacrifice in true Quinn fashion. I love getting to know all the new characters and continuing down this journey with old friends. Plus we could all use some more yummy dominate wolves in our lives. Can't wait for the next one already!
This book is terrible. It's poorly written, the heroine is the most TSTL one I've read in a while, the only thing unpredictable is that it ends before anything actually happens, and the author doesn't understand that a horrific backstory does not substitute for character development.
It bothered me that all the heroines were teenagers mating forever with much older men. The heroine's monumental (and predictable) stupidity (or plot mechanism) in believing that the most evil man in all the realms is going to abide by his promise is so TSTL it ruins the book. She decides to go with him rather than stay with her mate and fight the evil. The other thing that seemed really weird is that the fae woman who seems to be in charge of things decides that the human women who recently found out about the supernatural world are the right people to be planning a war against ultimate supernatural evil. The fae woman is surrounded by werewolves hundreds of years old and who have seen many battles, but she doesn't go to them. It's so stupid!
3.5/5 Stars "Memories, though they might not be able to physically harm the way the reality does, could still continue to damage the soul."
I enjoyed this second book, but I don't love the main couple that this was about. I just don't really feel the connection. I absolutely adore this world, and the side characters. Plus, I think the villain is very interesting. I just don't like the main couple, and I think they are going to be the main couple in the next books too.
Ok i've affirmed more than a million times that Quinn Loftis is AMAZING! and this is another proof. I swear this book gave me chills and grey hairs! I scream, I teared up, I eye rolled, I brooded but bottom line is ... I absolutely loved every minute of it!
We all know from book 1 our new Gypsy Healer Jewel Stone suffered an unfortunate ordeal under the hands of a sadistic Fae that Peri's sister Lorelle unleashed. Her foray into all this supernatural was a rough start ... Poor thing is unconscious and has been for weeks all thanks to said raving lunatic and not even Sally's mad gypsy healing skills can save her.
In the midst of all this drama, cue Dalton Black (Omg i'm totally screaming) … Tall, dark, handsome, furry, and a little unstable because he's on verge of going feral because he's full of uncontrollable rage, anger, hate and despair. You know, typical brooding alpha except to the nth degree. I swear Dalton gives Decebel a run for his money and i've never met a stoic fellow like Dec.
Needless to say Dalton has so much guilt, anger and resentment bottled up inside him over his past that he's about to explode and finding out that a certain unconscious, vulnerable and traumatic gypsy healer is your mate kinda makes him more unstable. Despite knowing Jewel is his mate and she needs him to heal completely, Dalton can’t accept the possibility of a mate as pure as Jewel because he believes he's tainted and filled with darkness. (*eye rolls" Those darn werewolves and their stubbornness).
This book is chock full of angst, pain and agony, I swear my heart literally breaks for these two over and over. They are literally star -crossed but the beauty in the mate bond they share makes it bearable in the meantime.
This book unlike the others is alot more deeper and darker than any of the rest BUT in a totally good way! because it's still amazing and Ms. Loftis shows that your mate does not have to be noble, honorable, and chivalrous but even when he's a little bit bent, he's as perfect as can be.
If you think Decebel was an alpha, well Dalton is the epitome of the strong, brooding, and silent type. He's possessive, protective, sweet, determined and just plain awesome.
“Can we compromise?” she asked hopefully" “No.” “Please?” “Still no.” “What if—” “Hell will freeze over, global warming will suddenly make sense, and the oompa loompas in that book Charlie and the crappy factory will be the governing body of the United States, which they will have renamed Loompa Land, before I agree to continue letting that evil prick use our bond to entice you to him.” “Well, those aren’t very good odds.”
I gotta admit, Dalton's backstory was very powerful and his story is deeper than all the other males. You'll never guess his secret and when you find out, you'll just cheer for Dalton and Jewel all the more! As usual, Ms. Loftis' book are deep and chock full of wisdom.
"You have no control over the future. What you do have is the right now. You have this moment and that is all you have. You are promised nothing more. That is what our lives are, a collection of moments. You can make those moments worthy of the life your Creator gave you by selflessly giving them to someone else, or you can hold onto those moments using them to wallow in things you can do nothing about."
A great installment, I can't wait for book 3. I have 1 word ... CLIFFHANGER !!!!!!!! OMG NOOOOO I about DIED !!!! Why do you do this to me Quinn ??????? This is sheer torture. *sigh*
I've read Quinn Loftis' The Grey Wolf series and the first book to the Gypsy Healers series. I fell immensely in love in the world she had created. The characters are all genuinely different and lovable and all had their stories to tell. But when I had the chance to read this early on, it catched my attention. When I actually sat down and read it, my mind just drifted away.
It wasn't entirely horrible. But I had to ask myself. Is this a book I would recommend to somebody? Would I re-read it again? No to both of these questions. And my main problem with it is that Jewel was in a deep coma throughout the entire book. She's the main character and I wanted her up and about. This is what I think was the biggest downfall of the book for me. Of course, there were lots of parts that I felt were a bit dragging.
I did enjoy seeing some of the old characters from The Grey Wolf series. But they were more in the background and were put aside for the new characters. I didn't really like that. The new characters weren't that bad. I just think the story wasn't that well written for them.
The prologue of the book is what I would say got me the most interested in reading this novel. It portrays how Dalton was like before he meets his mate Jewel.
The synopsis of the book, I feel is a bit misleading because it talks about how Jewel was the laughing stock of her school because of her mother but we don't get to see any glimpse of that. That was actually something I wanted to see. What I had thought was going to happen didn't. Before I read this, I had imagined how the story might have played out. But it was completely off. I guess you can say that my standards were set very high.
After debating on whether I should give this 3 or 2 stars, I ended up deciding on giving this 2 stars, sadly. I honestly don't know if I'll be picking up the third book in the series. My curiosity only comes from wanting to see the old characters and maybe a little bit about Dalton but that's it.
2 Stars: It Was Okay
*An Advance Reader's Copy was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.*
Oh.My.Gosh!! I think this book gave me several more grey hairs! But I absolutely loved every minute of it! Jewel has had one heck of a time so far in this new supernatural world she’s been thrust into. Poor thing is unconscious now, thanks to a raving lunatic, so she can’t even rely on the strength of the other girls that have found themselves in the same new world. Then there’s Dalton… Tall, dark, handsome, furry, and full of uncontrollable rage. You know, your typical werewolf. But there’s so much guilt built up inside him over his past he can’t accept the possibility of a mate as pure and vulnerable as Jewel. (Stubbornness: also a typical werewolf trait) There is some serious pain and agony in this book, my heart breaks for these two over and over. But there is so much beauty in the mate bond that it makes it bearable. I've fallen in love with all these new characters just as I did all the Grey Wolves before them. I can’t wait to see where the journey takes them!
The perfect blend of heartache and humor is the recipe for this book. Traumatic backstories and broken lives are revealed. And we’re left with the hope that love and sacrifice can triumph over the dark forces. Just when the dark and evil get to be too much, Peri and the Gypsy Healers crack wise and enjoy the sarcastic banter they know so well! I really enjoyed the books messages of forgiveness and faith.
Word of warning, Quinn Loftis is notorious, (or is it infamous?) for her cliffhanger endings and Wolf of Stone is no exception. I for one enjoy that about these as it leaves me wanting more!
I was anxiously awaiting this book to see where things would go with Dalton and Jewel. While I was pleased to see that their relationship was getting somewhere, I was annoyed that with the other Healers, Alphas, and Betas. They kept getting an itch they couldn't scratch, but none ever met to relieve it. The only pair to meet was the one who has to wait over year?! I was hoping for more progression from the other Healers. Still looking forward to the next book.
I was expecting more to this book but all I felt was the story was on a hamster wheel. Their were times I felt like I was reading the same thing over and over again. Or it was a set up for the next book in series. I have to say I was disappointed this time around. Which I'm sad since I really love this author oh well ... I'll still read the next book and hope for the best. :)
Creo que es la primera vez que un libro de Quinn no me gusta tanto, realmente siento que le faltó algo al libro, más que nada no me gusto que jewell todo el libro se la pasará en coma, y no sentí mucha química entre los protas porque casi no hay escenas de ellos interactuando en fin esperó que el siguiente libro me guste mucho más que este.
This book made me laugh, cry, and scream in frustration. I will patiently (not) wait until the next book is out. I want to thank Quinn Loftis for writing.
Finished in less than 24 hours! Only possible with quinns books! I absolutely loved loved loved it. The only thing I hate is now I have to wait ageeeees for the next one
I enjoyed this book. Kara, Heather and Jewel were rescued from the Dark Forest but Jewel is in a coma due to the trauma that she suffered by Lorelle who was being possessed by Volcan, the evil power hungry High Fae who was the father of the witches. Dalton feels a pull to Jewel but because there are no mating signs he doesn’t quite understand, plus he’s completely stubborn and denies that she’s anything to him. His Alpha Dillon tries to force his hand but he’s as stoic as ever. He sneaks in to visit Jewel at night and then leaves again. In the end Dillon gets Peri to bound Dalton from climbing through Jewel’s window since he’s denying that she’s his mate so other dominant wolves can come in to see Jewel as they maybe her true mate instead. Dalton’s wolf keeps on banging into the window as each male is brought in. It isn’t until Kale, the Ireland Pack Beta touches Jewel that Dalton crashes through Peri’s magic. Kale says that Dalton is a r*pist but Dillon sticks up for his wolf. Really the women who cried r*pe was actually a witch Gwen from Dalton’s past and was infatuated with him, and was actually part of his and his parents t*rture during the Salem witch trials.
Gwen would come into his cell at night and clean up his wounds then also touch him, so really she’s the r*pist not him. He’s damaged that he doesn’t even really like touch from anyone, when a wolf should crave touch as it brings them peace. It was heartbreaking reading about what Dalton’s been through. His past is extremely dark, far darker than any of the other Canis Lupus mates that we’ve met before. Or maybe Quinn decided to go into more detail because his true mate Jewel needed to know everything, because it explained to why he stayed away from her for so long and that it seemed like he didn’t want her as a true mate, but it was really because he felt like he had nothing left to offer her because his soul is filled with darkness. I did notice that there were a few errors while reading this book, but nothing major. Before the dominant wolves gathered at Peri’s it was decided that Anna, Stella and Heather be taken to the Pixie Realm since they’re of age where mating signs kick in. Elle, Soren, Adam and Crina go along with them as protection. Peri thought it would be best to keep the Gypsy Healers separate at the moment.
Their antics completely cracked me up, especially with Heather, whose blind pretending to look for a lost button with her chest pointing towards the ground, as the male Pixie’s thought that Heather must’ve had heaps of lovers in her past that didn’t agree with her actions, just like what happened to the King’s brother so they took her eyes and put them in her chest as punishment. The King’s brother messed with the wrong Pixie, and because he couldn’t stop thinking with a part of his anatomy that shouldn’t do the thinking, she decided to replace his nose with said anatomy. The King tried to get the Gypsy Healers to use their magic to fix his brother. I think for someone so smart, Jewel really should’ve listened to Dalton when he tried to get her to close down their mate bond as Volcan was using it against them. Now look at the position she’s in. I’m looking forward to reading Piercing Silence (the Grey Wolves Series) novella next and finding out the lengths Jacque would go to try and save her mate Fane from the t*rment he endured while being trapped in the in between. I’d definitely recommend this book, series, universe and author to everyone.
Or will they give in to the fear and doubt that would keep them from one another for eternity?
It kills me to give a book by Quinn only 2 stars, but there was just too much to this one for me to give it any higher. I mean heck, this book should NOT have taken me this long to read. I was just completely uninterested. The main issue I had with it was the severe soap opera type writing. Meaning, one character’s story would build and then suddenly drop for a couple chapters while we moved to another character’s story. Anytime I was actually invested or interested in what was happening it switched story lines and I didn’t have the desire to get back into their story so I put the book down.
I also really felt like this book had absolutely no point to it. It basically ended exactly where it began, just with a couple of identified mate bonds. Dalton still isn’t with Jewel, the other healers are just off in another realm goofing off and aching for their mates, and Volcan is still out there and planning his world take over. Basically all this book was was some conversations between the healers, some of dalton’s history, and dalton sitting Jewel’s room waiting for her to wake up. That. Is. It. I was just starting to think the action was about to pick up in the story and then I am abruptly looking at the words “The End.” I was severely SEVERELY let down. The only reason for the 2 stars are because I am hoping the things that happened in this book have a point in another one in the series. It was well written, boring, but few errors or grammar mistakes and the characters were generally well developed.
But on a random note, I would really love to know why no one thought to go to Jewel’s mom until the end??? Wouldn’t they possibly have learned something that might have sped things up or helped her sooner?
I don’t want to give up on this series, especially since nothing actually happened in this one, but idk if I can take another full read if the next one is the same as this one.
This is the second book in this series. They must be read in order. This book continues right where the first one leaves off. Dalton Stone never thought he would find his true mate. Let alone it be a Gypsy healer. Jewel is in a coma. She can hear what everyone is saying around her. She wants to wake up but she just can’t seem to. She knows something isn’t right. But, not what. She knows Dalton is her mate. She feels sale and calm when he is near. She worries and is scared when he leaves. No body in their group knows what the what the villain back up plan is but they know he has one. Know one thinks he will give up that easily after all this time. They are protecting the other gypsy healers. I feel bad for the guys who know they have mates and can’t get to them right now. They can feel the mate pull but can’t do anything about it. Hopefully they will get to meet in the next book. This series pulls me in more with each book. I can’t wait to read the next book and see what happens next. These books are a bit more angsty than the others. I feel for all the characters. I just want to all get their happily ever after. Great job Quinn.
At first I was a little bored, because I felt like the pace was a little slow, but after maybe 100 pages, the story began to pick up pace and I was having trouble putting the book down. But because the 1st book ended kinda like no cliffhanger-ish I just assumed this book would be the same, but I was wrong but this just means that I can't wait to read the next book.
I feel really bad for Dalton now that I know him a little better after his stories. But just the fact that he was finally beginning to show some emotions and then having Jewel ripped away from him just breaks my heart.
But it'll be interesting when the other healers meet their mates because that'll be so funny I imagine.
Omg this series totally keeps you on your toes. Quinn takes you on a journey like few other authors can do. This book has all the feels and when you think you know how something is going to turn out, boom the rug is totally taken out from you. I love the gypsy healers they are all strong and fierce characters and the wolf's all swoon worthy but Peri is and always will be hysterical she adds humor where one wouldn't be able to find it. Another awesome read that you don't want to miss
Another Winner, This series just keeps getting better and better. I love this set of books, I am starting the 3rd. Book tonight... The chemistry between the shifters and the Gypsy healers is getting even better than it was in the last book. Poor Dalton and Jewel have gone through so much to be together and it's not going any better in this book, The Wicked Fae is determined to steal Jewel away and begin the birth of his new even better witch coven. If you loved the Grey Wolf Series as much as I did hurry and buy this series...
dalton is faced with the idea of sharing his life, should be a moment to celebrate yet he holds back. He's been alone a long time even though he needs her the same way he needs air and she him. She's still out of reach in a coma his mate lies. The evil that put her there is out there plotting and they are suppose to save the world!? Will dalton willing accept all he's told himself he doesn't deserve? Will jewel wake up? Will they figure out how to stop voltan the evil that wants to spread darkness over their world?
Jewel is one of the gypsy healers that Peri found in the previous book. The Great Luna has chosen Dalton for her true mate but she is in a coma because Voltan got to her first. What I don't understand is that both Jewel and Dalton still question their creator's decree that they belong together. I do not like the new bad guy in town, mainly because it seems that he is all powerful and can't be beat. I know this story will continue to the next book and I am sure the author has it all figured out but the anticipation is really tense. Fairly a short story but all in all I loved it.
Holy shifters! I’m ready to beat a fae, kick a wolf in the butt and have a party with the healers. Lol
This story had me on the edge of my chair more than once. We need to have Peri the Fairy get really mad and kick Volcans butt! It’s just getting crazier and creepier.
Loved it! The evil has begun, he thinks he will win. But they are making plans as they would in a game of chess. They have gone to see Jewels mom who is a true seer! She gives them the truth about what is involved and some of the cost. I recall don't want to tell you more and ruin it but you should read it yourself!
I usually enjoy your books. The story lines are good reads and the characters are funny. However, this book had so many grammatical errors that it made it difficult to read. Which lead to problems in the storyline. That is way I rated this book so low.
