Fresh out of North Carolina's penitentiary system after doing a stretch for a crime he didn't commit, Tk, one of T-ville's finest, wastes no time before he sets in motion a plan to take what he feels the streetz rightfully owe him.
An uneducated, seventeen year old black youth who finds himself railroaded and in prison doing a seven year bid for an armed robbery he didn't commit. It is under these circumstances that TK meets a wizened ex-drug kingpin doing seventeen years for conspiracy to traffic and distribute cocaine. Just so happens, this ex-drug kingpin is also a Grandmaster on the chessboard. With considerable effort, he not only teaches TK how to play chess, but he also shows him how to apply the same logic to life. In the process, he encourages TK to get his GED and enroll in college courses while he educates him about the streets and its many traps.
It is with all this knowledge that TK comes up with what seems like the perfect plan to take over the streets once he is released. The only problem is, the one thing he didn't plan for strikes him within twenty - four hours of his release… A woman! Not just any woman, but the wife of his father like mentor.
With adultery, murder and betrayal under his belt, TK fights to keep karma at bay. The only question is; will he succeed?
This book was good. The author did a good job with detail on each character, but it ended abruptly. If the ending had been handled differently, I would give it a higher rating but it was just chopped off. In any case, I am looking forward to part II.
I have to say I am very glad that I gave this book a chance because it was seriously that great.
I loved TK as a character. TK served 7 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit. But, no worries, throughout the 7 years he was locked up he definitely stayed busy and was educated by ex Notorious king pen Money Mike. When TK finally gets released nothing but luxury and gifts await him courtesy of Money Mike.
TK may have been some broke thug in everyone's eyes however, after he steps out of those prison walls, TK is a no nonsense SOB. He starts investing in the game, and he is one to mess with when it comes to doing business. I think that's what I admired most about TK as a character. He was always a real upfront kind of guy, he didn't sugar coat anything, and if things weren't done right he always took matters in his own hands. The only thing I disliked about him is what a player he was. I would really love to see him with Stacey. Because Regina was nothing but a bird who wanted her cake and eat it too.
All in all this book had my attention from start to ending. There's was never a dull moment and the sex scenes helped also to be even more interested in the book. There was minimal editing errors, I say like two or three, but that didn't steer me away from loving the storyline.
What a debut Mr. Broadie!!! There were a few errors but overall I must say I thoroughly enjoyed this read. I have to say TK is the truth! Who would have ever thought he could switch from a convicted criminal to a business man. I liked the way he looked at everything as if it were a chessboard when making moves. Tatianna is something else but has already shown she can be just as lethal. TK's team showed they were down for whatever and wouldn't hesitate when it came to any competition. Ugh Diablo, it's not good to try and play multiple sides! D-Nice seems as if he'll truly be a great asset to TK's team. I can't wait for part 2 to see what other problems will arise, what will happen with Regina, will Stacey stop acting so uppity and judgmental without all the facts, and what type of war will come about for the King of the Streetz?!
How many times does one pick up a book and, before the end of Chapter One, the entire story has unfolded? All too often plots are sloppy, characters undeveloped, and pieces of the puzzle don't fit.
Author Broadie got it right with this one. He brings TK to the audience, fresh out of lock up and ready to take the street by storm. True to any 'hood, though, it isn't as easy as showing up and throwing his name and rank out. TK has to put in work, show the players who he is and what he's about. That's the case in the street game and the game of hearts. He picks up on a lady he wants, but realizes that she is just like the hustle...he'll have to earn his way to the top.
The players all line up here. Tatianna, the female hustler who is as tough as any guy; Ya-Sin, TK's homeboy and key the crew; and the initial army. From the very first meeting, order was set and leadership passed hands in that subtle but certain way, from Ya-Sin to TK. There was a slight detour, but it was temporary...and quickly handled.
In book one, the Author gives readers a clear idea of who the major players are. Their motives, backgrounds, and thinking patterns are clear. Moving into book two, it'll be interesting to watch as the takeover happens...as I'm sure it will
I couldn't believe that i have read this in a day, bu then again, CHarles knew how to rope you in. He didn't spend too much time with the back story, and he was able to fulfill the information that needed to know the characters. He gave a full description of each character, even the short lived ones. I like the way he was able to translate the Spanish to English for people like me, and to top it all off, it was greatly edited. Many books, it hard to see who is speaking or where the're stop talking, but not this one. THis one deserves a 5 Star
This book surprised me. From the beginning, I was hooked. The story flowed nicely at an even pace. You was able to follow the development of the story as well as the characters. I like the way the author introduce new characters and provided a back story which helps you understand where they come from. There were no grammatical errors or mispelled words. The typesetting was good for the kindle. If there is a part 2, I will definitely reading it.
I look forward to reading more work from this author. Keep up the good job!
King of the Streetz, isn't your average hood book, but a hood book with intelligent, and tact. TK served 7 years in prison, for a crime he didn't commit. While incarcerated, he befriended crucial people that would later come into play. TK is on his journey of a takeover, and he's one to think before he acts. Wise beyond his years, he takes everything that he learned, and used it against his enemies.
So many young men get caught up in our system and don't receive justice. Some take justice into their own hands and don't believe in our system that's suppose to protect us. TK came out of prison angry at the whole world but I can't wait to take the ride with him to see if he ends up on top of the streetz
WAIT IT HAS ALREADY WENT DOWN MAN THIS BOOK IS A TRUE TRUE HOOD STORY CAN'T WAIT FOR PART 2 ONLY THING THAT I DON'T LIKE WAS THAT IT WAS A SHORT READ BUT THE BEST THING BOUT IT IS THAT IT WAS A GREAT DRAMA FILLED EDGE OF THE SEAT CAN'T PUT DOWN READ IN ONE DAY BOOK
I'm glad I decided to give Charles Broadie a chance great read. Loved the character of TK. Tatianna is a force to be reckon with also. All in all great read and I can't wait to start part 2 there was twists and turns that kept the readers interested. Great job Mr. Broadie.
This book was a page Turner. I enjoyed the character TK he showed to sides of himself that were combined into one he'll of a man. I can't wait to start part 2. The book is highly recommended for a good read.
This was my first read by Charles Broadie and I will definitely be reading part 2 of King of the Streets. Without giving away to much of the story I will just say is TK and his team are definitely on point. Charles Broadie you are a brilliant writer.
I would definetly recommend this book. I enjoyed it from beginning to end. I can't wait to see what's going to happen in part 2. Great job Charles. Keep up the good work...
This was my first read from this author and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. There were minimal errors in this particular book and the storyline was intriguing. The author kept up a good pace with this book. I would definitely recommend this book to other readers.
It was OK. A lot was going on in a short time period. It seemed to jump around a lot. Was a short story. I feel like this story was not completed. It just stopped.
