Hard-nosed NYPD Detective Conrad Voort takes on his most diabolical villain yet--an adversary willing to break all the rules of criminal decency who is shielded from prosecution by the federal government.
This is my favorite book of the 5. I definitely recommend reading them in order if you are going to take on any of them, because there is a storyline throughout….. be prepared to reread pages, expect to be confused, and as you go you will understand his style of writing. I am glad I read them, as I did enjoy them in ways, but not enough as to admit it to anyone 😂 I wish he read his own books more to keep the small details matching and there were quite a few grammatical errors. Love Voort though!!!
This may be a better book than three-stars, I'll never know. I didn't get far. The story kept getting interrupted by poetic descriptions and I kept losing my train of thought. I love detailed descriptions, but not in between the thoughts and words and actions of the characters. Especially poetic descriptions since they often require pause and thought which is difficult to take when the action is fast paced. Maybe I just started this book on a bad day.
I had my doubts at first. The beginning seemed a little slow. Still, once I got to the part about his "trauma" I couldn't put the book down. It was interesting seeing Conrad react and seeing his feelings about the whole experience. In the end, overcoming his trauma and still seeing that it wasn't a "happily ever after" ending was a nice change. Very human, very true to life.
