A reputation isn't always the measure of a man.
"Given what Papa had told her, she understood why he'd leaped to these conclusions, but why couldn't he give her a chance?"I don't know, girl....maybe because you'd been lying to him from day one and continued lying to him until the end?? Lastly, the whole nitrous oxide party was useless. Madeline had claimed that she wanted to speak with these individuals for her article. Couldn't she have requested an anonymous interview with Sir Humphry through Anthony for her article? It would have been much simpler. So much for being a naturalist. This level of deception didn't work well in this book and I didn't get to enjoy Anthony and Madeline as a couple until the very end.
