Subordination: Chronicles of a Domme

Rate this book
When Sophie Jameson first became a domme at Club 1740, it was more out of financial necessity than it was for personal pleasure and sexual exploration. But over the years as she rocked her leather corsets and boots while wielding every crop and flogger imaginable, she grew to love the thrill and adulation that her clients brought her. But all along, her path in life and her heart was with a different profession—one she was planning to embark on at the summer’s end.

And then he changed everything. Tall, dark, impossibly built—William was the complete opposite of whatever image a male sub conjured up. After all the subs, Sophie finally felt true lust and desire. Although he was the proud stallion who needed breaking, he became the one to make her break all her rules and let down all her walls.

But it was just supposed to be for that one night, but an accidental encounter days later outside Club 1740’s protected walls had the two seeing each other in a different light—as simply Sophie and William, not Domme and sub. While they should have parted ways, they couldn’t. While they should never have gone back to her place, they did.

And that simple mistake has a serious price for both of them.

I decided to read it out of curiosity. The same description is interesting and original. But I was a little afraid that it will be too much on the edge, the thing is it wasn't as I expected, at all.

About the plot: Sophie aka Mistress Juliette works as a Domme at the Club 1740. She decided to be a dominatrix to be able to graduate and pay bills of Ranch where live her brother and sick father. She does not feel the pleasure of domination over men, it was her work that she decided to take. But in her last night at the club she met the man who rocked her world and broke down all her principles.

William works in an environment that requires him to dominate and responsibilities, so in his spare time he participates in submissive games in the club. He had a very good time with Soph during their play scene. However, he wasn't aware that this is her last night at the club.

Chance had it that the two meet in the real world and he was determined to get from her another night. They start something that none of them will be able to stop, even when the situation complicated even more. Starting with the fact that she never wanted to be in D/s relationship.

“I don’t want just to be with you sexually again, Sophie. I want to see where this could go long term.”

Final thoughts: It was not what I expected, because it was even romantic, and after the description and BDSM scenes involving a dominant woman and submissive man that really surprised me. Although I am not able to understand quite such a relationship that was really favorable book. There were different scenes, not only related to BDSM, so I suspect that everyone will find something for themselves.

When it comes to the same story and the relationship of the main characters that has captivating and surprising course of events. Only at one point, a little out of control, which I not much enjoyed, but it comes back on a good track.

“I don’t always have to have pain to get off. It just heightens everything for me. It’s like the difference in jerking off compared to coming inside a tight pussy.”

However, this what consumed me completely, is touching story of Sophie father's illness. It was so emotional that I cried like a baby. It gave a really sensational development of history and a good ending.

After all, I don't think that it's a book for everyone. There is one good sentence that proves it. But if you like to test your limits and try something new it is definitely worth your attention.

“...Some get off on words, others BDSM.”

Holy smoking submissiveness! A story about two secret alter egos who thought would have a single night of pleasure together. When they meet each other in the real world though, their encounter doesn’t just explode with sultry fireworks but also with jarring life altering results.

Between her educational debts and her father’s deteriorating health Sophie Jameson faced a financial uphill struggle. Deciding to become a domme at Club 1740 was not to seek personal pleasure but out of economic need.

As Mistress Juliette, Sophie has grown to care for her clients over the years. She’s never been interested in one or taken pleasure from them, much less wanted explore a relationship outside the confines of the club. She has her own path and heart set in becoming a teacher once she finishes her studies.
On her last night as a professional domme she runs into the most handsome and attractive man she’s ever seen, whose air of authority could easily be mistaken for a dominant alpha male and after years of celibacy he sparks true desire and want in Sophie.

Breaking down her walls they indulge in each other for one night. But a chance run-in outside of the club gives them a chance to get to know one another better. Little did they know that their lives would further cross as William is to be her boss which has them rethinking a future together. But what would happen if their secret got out?

Although I tend to go for alpha male heroes, the way Katie Ashley portrays William’s character was an incredibly sexy turn on. He’s a strong, secure in himself, caring man who likes to put his partner’s needs ahead of himself and let go of his control in the bedroom. Basically an old fashioned gentleman with added kink. And while Sophie is outspoken and can wield a crop and hog tie anyone like no other, she’s a kind person and a caring daughter and sister.

Their attraction was immediate, but the bond grew as they got to know each other. I really enjoyed Sophie and William’s witty, sexylicious banter, smoking hot chemistry and how well they fit together outside the bedroom.

The first half of their story was laden with eroticism but it’s secondary to their relationship and all the roadblocks they encounter because of their lifestyle choices and job positions during the second half. Some because of outside interference, some because of Sophie’s hesitancy. But as they battle to overcome said setbacks we also get to see how much Sophie’s family lovingly appreciates all her efforts and is supportive of them.

Subordination required I have a tall cold glass of water at my side. It made me fan myself and smile, and as Sophie and William’s story comes to a somewhat predictable end, I was misty eyed and happy for their happy and left with a very satisfying read.

Subordination: Chronicles of a Domme by Katie Ashley is a standalone novel. It is told from the heroine’s point of view and has a happy ending.

Katie Ashley whips up an emotional, sexy, erotic BDSM romance in her latest release, Subordination. If you ever have read a BDSM book, then readers are very familiar with a master and sub relationship but in the case of this book, Ms. Ashley lures her readers to the world of a Domme and her relationship with a sub.

#Subordination

The leading Mistress Juliette is not your standard Domme because this lifestyle was not by preference but out necessity. In the case of Mistress Juliette, better known as her real name Sophie Marie Jameson, she chose to be a Domme in order to help pay for the expenses of her father and brother. Being a Domme was a job and she never met anyone whom she wanted to control outside her job at a sex club until she met, William Foster.

William was your walking sex on the stick. He exudes total alpha male but in reality he was a submissive through and through. He was searching for that Mistress in whom he could find that special connection and he found that in Sophie. When Sophie finally submitted to her lust and sexual attraction to William, a connection was formed. It was indescribable. It was more than a mistress exerting her power and control on a sub. It was an electrical charge of possibly a life altering of two hearts.

As Sophie finally caved into giving her connection to William a try, she was in for a rude awakening when she discovered that her sub was her new boss. Will Sophie be able to continue her Mistress/Sub relationship with William after discovering he is her boss? What would happen if anyone were to discover Sophie and Williams' secret proclivities?

If you are a fan of bondage, flogging and the whole Mistress/sub relationship, then Subordination might be the book for you. While this book still had the hot erotic aspect of a romantic relationship, the author was still able to incorporate and weave strong emotional undertones of matters of the heart and family dynamics. Although this relationship might not be your conventional love story of hearts and flowers, William was still your sweet romantic hero that just happens to love submitting control to his Mistress. The story and writing flowed at an excellent pace giving readers a full balance of erotica, BDSM, romance and raw emotions. So if you are looking for a fresh, sexy, and emotional BDSM, then I would recommend Subordination by Katie Ashley.

As a first Katie read, hmmm… I’d say I like it… As a first domme read, hmmm… I guess it’s ok…

Sophie is a professional domme who met William on her last day at work and ended up running into him outside of work. There’s more a connection there than meets the eye, and just as they’re starting to explore that thing between them, turns out, it’s a small world after all for them.

In my head, I think it’s making a difference that being a domme is just a job for her. Did that translate well in her life? I don’t know. She doesn’t even know herself and never really had to think about it until William came into the picture. William on the other hand is into the lifestyle. He knows what floats his boat. So, I suppose in a way it’s interesting to see how they managed the dynamics between them.

For a BDSM-themed story, I expected more depth. It almost felt a vanilla-ized version, and this is coming from someone who has a low threshold for this theme. And it also felt that the other events that took place subjugated that aspect of their relationship. Had this been more a character study focusing only on their feelings towards each other and what it means to be in that relationship, it would’ve worked better in my head. Seeing that this is all Sophie’s POV, I was actually curious to delve more into William’s mind. After all, there’re not as many stories out there about a male sub.

Now, while that whole aspect on BDSM didn’t quite meet my expectations, the romance of it all and the story as a whole certainly did. I finished it quickly which meant it was an easy read for me. Sophie’s struggles, outside the bedroom, are relatable. She’s straightforward, kind and caring. William is a gentleman and quite adorable. There’s just enough angst and conflict to move the story, decent side characters, and yes, smokin’ times under the sheet, as you might say.

Overall, it’s probably just as well that this is my first domme read, it was a gentle way of breaking me into it. It’s def a good intro to the writing of Katie.

Hope that makes sense…

I have to admit that I had great expectations for this book. The blurb had me intrigued and excited.
Even though I love the genre, something in this book did not click for me. I don't think it was the fact that we had a Domme instead of a Dom; that had me very interested. I think what went a bit wrong for me was the fact that I couldn't connect with the heroine.
Sophie is a professional Domme and not a lifestyle Domme. She slipped a little too quickly into the skin of a Dominant and that had me wondering how, since the lifestyle did not touch her outside of her job.
William is a lifestyle Sub and a very sweet character but I just couldn't really get into their story. Their sexual encounters were strong and sizzling and I have to admit that the author did a great job with their chemistry.
The writing was great, but emotionally I was left abit unchallenged. It was not for me, but it might be for you. Give it a shot.

This was a domme/sub story with very likeable easy to relate MCs - they have been through trials in life (nothing to do with romance) and it has made them a better, stronger human being. The romance starts first in a bdsm club then moves to a small town setting.

But I couldn't believe the author went the predictable vindictive ex/public exposure route for the climax...what was the message she meant to convey - that people working in education should suppress their kinky instincts if any even in their private life? Or that competent responsible decent people who are into bdsm should never try to get into education? The second half of the book really disappointed me, it was so cliche and OTT, wish the author had chosen another less predictable path to the HEA. I understood why the h pushed H away but really she was too headstrong for the wrong reasons, I wanted to smack her at times!! The H was seriously too good.

I loved Subordination: Chronicles of Domme http://amzn.to/1QrAU9N from almost the moment I opened it, I was almost immediately pulled right in and wished I could sit all day with this one.

As the blurb states Sophie Jameson became a Domme at Club 1740 out of financial necessity for her it was not personal pleasure and sexual exploration.

Mistress Juliette is well crafted and the acts she engages are about business, that is something the reader can feel from the instant we meet her. She is alter ego of sorts, a facade Sophie puts on to provide for her family.

William Foster is mystery when Sophie and the reader meet him and the how we learn who he is was so well played!

From their first encounter it is clear Sophie is facing something very new to her:
“Look at me.” He jerked his gaze from my boots to meet mine.
“Are you looking to play tonight?”
“Yes, I am. And if it pleases you, Mistress, I would be honored if you chose me.”

Sophie and William second meeting was well played and his desire to want more from her, his desire to explore the connection between the two of them had me loving him more and more.

With true literary grace Ms Ashley paints William as a true gentleman, his desire to please and to want to be sub doesn’t turn him into a doormat. After just a few character I think many readers will be wishing William wanted to “serve” them.

What happens when William wants Sophie and the facade made this read engaging.

Ms Ashley did a wonderful job using secondary characters to build this story, I loved Sophie’s brother Ansel and her father Michael; I was so touched by Michael even more when things got tough, his reaction was that of pure love and gratitude. This book’s theme of you don’t know what you would do for family will speak to many readers.

I loved how this book and these characters faced real life struggles, what happens when professional and private lives collide; what happens when jealously threatens to ruin it all and what happens what deep heartache comes bearing down in your life.
Yes, all these have events in the plot no I am not going to tell you what they are read the book.

As this tale unravels I was teary eyed and yes life comes with deep heartache, heartache that can be softened if you open your heart to the love and care of one who want to comfort you.

The epilogue has an adorable twist that turned those teary eyes into a big smile!

Generally I tend to avoid the dominant pattern subject, you know it feels so déjà-vu.

This is the first time I read a book about a Domme and submissive.
A woman demanding the submission of her lover and the latter desperate to satisfy the desires and needs of his mistress ... Wow, I was immediately captivated by this book.

As much I fell in love with William, with his determination and endearing side, the heroine got on my nerves. I felt like she was too whiny, her fear of being abandoned not enough founded to my taste.

When a man puts as much passion to swoon you, to tell you he wants you for what you are, he wants to and will make sacrifices to be with you, you do not answer him that your relationship is doomed to failure, lowering your arms without a fight.

The originality of the subject matter and the character of William are worth a good 4 star, however the whiny side of the heroine prevents me from giving them.
This will be a good 3.5 stars!

12/13/17 Katie Ashley has re-branded and re-named Subordination....It is now BOUND TO ME. She has re-written some of the content so I am reading an ARC of it and will leave a new review once I finish the book.

So I have finished this book for the second time and I LOVED this just as much as I did the first time around. What I loved was that it felt like the first time I read the book. It has been 2 years since I first read this story and reading it now felt new!! I felt just as much emotion this time around as I did the last time.

I know I said that Katie is re-releasing this book and that she reworked some of the content, but truthfully I can't see where the changes were. I still stick to my first review on this book. Yes this book is written in the BDSM world and we get to see the DOMME side of things, but this book is SO MUCH MORE!!! The love story in this book is beyond amazing and I love the characters were are given in this story.

If you aren't a huge fan of the BDSM story, please don't let that scare you away from this book. Everything is tasteful and mild compared to others. This book is truly all about the love between Sophie and William.

I would recommend this book again!!!

~ 5 Domme Stars ~

I had been looking forward to reading this book since the day Katie announced it and I am happy to say I was not disappointed at all!! I LOVED this book!!!

I am such a huge fan of Katie's that she is an auto read for me. Her books suck me in right from the beginning and always hold on tight until the very end. Subordination was no different. I was drawn to Sophie and William right from the start.

This was a pretty fast paced book, but nothing felt rushed. I thought the writing was fabulous and flowed perfectly. What I loved most about this book was that it took on a different look to the BDSM world. We get the Domme's POV in this story. Every other book in this genre is usually from the Dom's POV. I learned so many new things while reading this story. I will say that this book was so much more than just a BDSM story, it was an amazing love story as well. Katie tapped into all my emotions while I was reading this book. I laughed, cried, blushed, and wanted to tear someone's hair out (Calla). When you can feel all those emotions, how can you not give it a 5 star rating!!!

In this story we meet Sophie Jameson, who is a Domme at the club 1740. She does this as a job only, to help pay for her ailing father's medical bills and to finish college. Once she graduates she lands a teaching job, so she leaves 1740. On her last day at the club she meets a submissive, William. Instantly they are drawn to each other and decide to "play". Let me tell you, Ms. Ashley knows how to write steamy scene that is both HOT and tasteful!!! From here we follow William and Sophie on their journey towards love. I loved these two characters and I felt they had amazing chemistry. You will definitely want to meet them!!

I also loved the secondary characters Anzel (Sophie's brother) and Sophie's dad. I really enjoyed the bond these three had and how they stood behind Sophie no matter what was happening.

Let me just finish by saying that I think everyone should read this wonderful book. It isn't your normal BDSM type story, so please don't let that scare you away from this story.

I’ll be the first to admit, I actually haven't read many Katie Ashley books (shocker I know!) The ones I have read though, I absolutely loved. THIS BOOK, this book has made me a Katie Ashley fan for life! She just has this amazing way of connecting you to the characters and leaves you a hot emotional mess. After this book, I am now going to one click all the Katie Ashley books I can find!

This story isn’t just a story about a relationship between a Domme and a Sub. This is a story about two people who had a pretty heartbreaking past coming together and trying to make the other whole again. Sophie and William have such a deep connection when they first meet, you can almost feel it yourself while you’re reading it. There a feeling of home that these two feel when they see each other. But like they always say, anything worth having is worth fighting for, and boy do these two have to fight.

You think you have it all, but all it takes is one day to completely change the course of your entire life.

There are quite a few things that stand in the way of Sophie and William having a happy ever after. Part of it is Sophie’s fear of everyone she loves leaving her. Will these two be able to beat down everything that comes between them? Or will it all be too much and it tears them apart?

Like I said, I haven’t read many Katie Ashley books, but I’m definitely going to be going and one clicking all of her books now. This book has so much depth to it, and Katie does such an amazing way of drawing you to the characters and the story line itself. I also really enjoyed the banter between Sophie and her brother Ansel, it was nice comic relief during those more serious situations. I hope Katie has more for us from the Chronicles of A Domme. I’d love to see who we get to fall in love with next!

“Subordination” is the story of Sophie. She’s a student, daughter, sister – and Dominatrix… She doesn’t do this because it’s her choice in lifestyle, she only needs the money to support her sick father and younger brother. But when she meets the enigmatic sub William, sparks fly and suddenly not only Sophie’s heart is on the line, but also her dream of becoming a teacher.

I admit that I was a bit skeptical before starting “Subordination”, because a male sub is something you find very rarely in books. My fear was, that William would be a whiney and weak male MC. But he was not! William was adorable and strong, he was sexy and his cravings for pain only made him more appealing (for me at least).

The writing style was amazing, it was an easy flow through the book. The pace was just right and even though it wasn’t too angsty for the majority of the book, I was completely invested in the story. The characters were so great, not only the main characters but also the side characters. It was a very extraordinary love-story but it worked so well. Plus it was a very emotional journey for a young woman, that tried to live and make her way despite everything fate put in her way.

The sex-scenes were deliciously hot! I loved the D/s dynamic between the two MC’s, but also thought they were very hot as a ‘normal’ couple. Even though it had quite a few heated scenes in it, I wouldn’t shelf “Subordination” under erotica, the plot outweighed the sexual parts by far.

All in all, I rate “Subordination” with 5+ stars and can definitely recommend it to everyone! And that William is described as a Henry Cavill look-alike doesn’t hurt, either LOL Just do yourself a favor and grab this amazing book!

I wasn't sure what to expect from SUBORDINATION, but I pleasantly surprised and just how much I loved the relationship between Sophie and Wiliam.

Sophie has spent the past five years at a Domme at an exclusive club in Atlanta. While she's not into the D/s lifestyle, it pays for her schooling and ensures her father and brother can remain on their farm. On her last night at the club, she meets a sub who is the first to ever spark her interest. She gives into the feelings, playing for fun, before she leaves that world behind and starts her new life back home as a high school teacher. But Sophie is in for the shock of her life when her Domme world and her new teacher one collide.

I loved Sophie and William. They instantly clicked with one another in the club, but that chemistry was still there outside too. I loved how their roles reversed when they were outside the bedroom. William was anything but submissive in most situations and Sophie, while sharp-tongued, was not always the bossy woman. I was glad they didn't have a classic D/s relationship, even if that might have been something William would have had in the past. They needed to have the other take charge at times and I don't think a traditional D/s relationship would have worked for them.

SUBORDINATION was my first Kristen Ashley book, but it's sparked my interest in her backlist. The story she created was thoroughly engaging, with characters that had heart. I absolutely enjoyed this book. It's definitely one that should be picked up.

Oh wow!

I had no idea what to expect from this book, it blows all expectations.

I loved how fiesty and outspoken Sophie was, though I will say she isn't really a true domme. She wasn't interested in the lifestyle it was more of a means to and end for her, a job that paid the bills and got her were she needed to be. Up until William she hadn't found any pleasure in giving punishment/pleasure and she hadn't taken any pleasure from her subs even though she's been asked. I loved her relationship with her brother and father and how she just wanted to care for them... She was the mother figure in the family even though though she was the sister/daughter.

William was different for me,he reminded me more of a switch... But a soft switch. He definitely got off on pain, and he liked to please Sophie and wanted to do what she asked of him openly... But at the same time he was super confident, dishing out demands and taking control at times it had me all kinds of confused and interested. He's a great hero though, perfect really... The way he cared for her was lush and the fact that straight from the beginning he knew he wanted her to keep was great.

The bedroom scenes were crazy hot with a little side of kink;) and their chemistry in and out of the bedroom was off the charts. The story progressed at a great pace and to make it better the epilogue sealed it for me, knowing that not only did they get their H/E but her brother also was super sweet.

This was a different read for me but I really enjoyed it &would definitely recommend it

This book was a lot more than I was expecting. It will have you all hot and bothered one minute...falling in love the next...then your heart breaking and the water works in full force. The synopsis pulled me in, a female domme a lot could relate to that's doing a job to get by in life. I loved the storyline and couldn't put the book down. I was involved in the story and really felt connected to the characters.

The book definitely had its hot times. We get to experience Sophie in her domme element. But there is also a romance involved. Sophie and William meet in the club but then later on a chance encounter and fate has their paths crossing again and the pull and connection between the two is one they can't deny. The two have a TON of obstacles to ever having a relationship making it almost impossible for them to ever be together.

This was such a good book. One I wasn't expecting to love as much as did. One that had me surprised at each twist. I loved the side characters and hope that we get more of them. I highly recommend if you love a good romance with an extra side of kink!!

We meet Mistress Juliette (Sophie Marie Jameson, Sophie has her life all planned out ahead of her, but with student debt and her fathers health declining she needs cash and fast, she decides to become a domme at the club, she enjoys her clients but has never had the need to have a relationship outside of the club until she meets William Foster who oozes raw sex, one night with William is all it takes for Sophie's walls to come down, will this one night lead to more once Sophie is no longer a domme?

The sexual chemistry and connection between William & Sophie was off the chart, this is my first time reading a book with a domme and i have to admit i really enjoyed it, i also have to note that BDSM isn't my usual read either but a mixture of brilliant writing, well thought out and developed characters and a good solid storyline which made for an enjoyable read.

I'm a big fan of Katie Ashley and I when I saw her writing was venturing into the world of BDSM I was really excited even more so when I realised our domme would be a woman.
Sophie became a domme at club 1740 purely as a financial necessity than for sexual pleasure, she has never felt a connection to any of her clients until she met William.

William is a submissive and has been a member of club 1740 for a few years but had never crossed paths with Sophie until now.

What I loved about this book were the strong characters and the chance to see a lighter side to the dom/sub relationship. William and Sophie's relationship is full of ups and downs but they are perfect for each other.
I also wanted to mention what a great epilogue this book has it finished off the story perfectly.

DNF aT 65%. This book certainly wasn't awful, but I just found it to be same old, same old and put it down to find something else. The pretext of a female domme, leaving the domme world for school teaching and a manly male sub was actually handled pretty well. But the rest of the story was very clichéd and I lost interest.

Subordination is a must have for my signed shelves!!

I CANNOT wait for you to meet William!! William’s blend of masculinity and submissiveness will definitely have you leaving your panties at the door. Even in submissive mode, his presence was every bit as commanding as Sophie’s, if not more so. I fell wicked, wicked hard for this man. Oh gosh, my adoration and love knows no bounds, I could gush all day long. Everything about him was just so on point. He was the epitome of what I look for in a male protagonist. William is by far my favorite male hero Katie has ever written; she really did an amazing job developing his depth, personality, and character. I’d give him 10 stars alone if I could but since I can't he’ll be snagging a spot on my top five book boyfriend list.

While I did end up enjoying Sophie, she took me longer to warm up to. Her 24/7 tough girl persona could drive me crazy, making it harder to connect with her on more than a surface level at times. She was one tough cookie to crack and I often wondered if I would ever fully come around to liking her character. I wanted to see more of her softer side. As one who relishes in sarcasm and bitchiness, I actually wanted to spend more time with the Sophie that didn’t need to be a ball buster at every turn (no pun intended). It could be quite fleeting, only coming out to play on a consistent basis with her family. On the flip side, if she showed us more of it I wouldn’t have had so much fun watching William work her over bringing it out of her as well. Those moments made for some delicious sexual and emotional tension.

I’ve been trying not to use the F Bomb but sometimes a review just needs it and this is one of those times. HOLY. FUCK. Katie Ashley. I knew she could write schmexy but I didn’t realize she had all that in her. Those. Scenes. They kind of had me girl crushing. If I beg and plead, call you Mistress, will you give us lots and lots more of those? Pretty please? I wanted more of those throughout the book. I wanted William to have so many more of those. I didn’t want it to ever end. I wanted to feel depraved right along with him.

And the chemistry wasn’t the only place Katie shined. She also brought some damn good drama. There were plenty of moments I was screaming “damn you, Katie Ashley, just damn you!!!” at my phone. I may have even shed a tear or two. My heart as well as my libido was completely engaged.

Kudos to Katie Ashley for taking a lifestyle I thought wouldn’t have been my cuppa and making me realize quite quickly that it was my cup of tea after all. Thank you for opening my eyes to a whole new world within a genre I absolutely adore reading about. I loved Subordination so much I’ll be on my merry little way finding new books to feed this newest addiction. Feel free to leave any recs!

I know the Proposition Series is one of Katie’s biggest sellers, but for me, Subordination was her best book yet. I am downright impressed with her first time writing in this genre. Katie Ashley did such a wicked job mixing it up and bringing us the perfect ingredients for an amazing love story.

I really wanted to like this book. There are some fellow readers who absolutely loved the story. I couldn't for several reasons. The biggest stand out for me was lack of connection to either leads. For me to like or love a story, I have to have a connection. It didn't occur and I'm going to chalk this up to reader preference. Details in the spoilers on my personal thoughts.
There isn't anything I can complain about dual plot lines or editing. Clearly this story just wasn't meant for me to read. Not everything I choose will hit the cord with me. In this case, I found I couldn't connect. However, you may be able. Please read other reviews before you make a decision. This just wasn't the read I was looking for.

Subordination is a standalone erotic romance by bestselling author Katie Ashley and is a story that chronicles the life of a dominatrix named Sophie Jameson as she meets the man of her dreams, William Foster, and tries to strike a balance between accepting the natural need to dominate that exists within her and the need for a reciprocal relationship based on love and not merely a submissive's desire to please and obey his domme. The distinction that Sophie constantly makes about being a professional domme and not one who actually indulges in the lifestyle outside of Club 1740 was an interesting one, but her time with William proves that she earned her reputation as a domme because of her innate need for and ability to take control. Sophie had me with her foul-mouthed observations and pronouncements, though there were times that the woman needed a bit of shaking so that she would quit with the skewed view she had of her relationship with William. And William? Ah, the man was book boyfriend material from beginning to end.

This story is really Sophie's and her journey as she discovers and embraces things about herself that she never realized were really part of her from the beginning. William accepted his desire for pain in order to attain pleasure sexually when he was nineteen, and this gives him far more insight than Sophie. He's the one who opens her eyes and her heart to the possibilities that being together can bring. She may wield the flogger, but it's William who wields the knowledge that provides him with the security and power of knowing what he wants and going after it. He gives his all while Sophie holds back, so the dynamic between them makes for an engrossing interplay. The book, however, isn't limited to just their love story, and Sophie's relationships with her ailing father and younger brother was touching and highlighted just how much wiser they were in matters of the heart. Sophie's character evolved in the story, and that's something you always want in your heroine. Subordination is Katie Ashley at her best (so far!) and I give it 4.5 stars. ♥

I was strangely nervous about starting this book. I really can’t tell you why except to say that sometimes reading about BDSM and sex clubs can get a little tiresome. I’m aware that sounds ridiculous, but it’s true. NOT THIS BOOK. I wasn’t tired of Katie’s writing after 30% or 100% – Subordination was an quick read for me that focused way more on love than on submission and I completely fell for it. I could have kissed Katie’s boots. ;)

Sophie’s been acting as a Domme for five years in order to make enough money to care for her father who suffers from a debilitating disease. That fact alone tells you just the kind of person she is: selfless, loving, and willing to take on any challenge. While she never sexually interacts with her clients, she emotionally cares for them. Until William.

When she sees William from across the club, everything shifts just a little on its axis. She’s suddenly attracted to him. She’s desperate to play – and she never wants to just play. One night isn’t enough, but then suddenly one night becomes too much. Too risky.

Sophie bounces back and forth in the relationship badminton game while William knows exactly what he wants and he’s willing to do whatever is necessary – or risk whatever is necessary – to get it. I completely understood why Sophie was so nervous, that wasn’t the issue, but her oscillation and unwillingness to accept what was good for her contradicted her personal character traits of strength and control. Translation: she drove me crazy sometimes, but I still liked her.

Sophie’s not a true Domme though and William is most definitely a sub – or are they? This book allows us to transcend titles and labels and focuses purely on love. There’s conflict, romance, and sweet personal relationships that develop with ease. I was ready to submit to William the second Sophie spotted him in the club, even though he doesn’t swing that way. Each character was boldly developed and the plot was wonderfully light.

Katie Ashley had me by the balls. Trust me, you’ll want to just submit. 4.5 stars!

This is the first BDSM novel that I’ve come across in a long, long time that not only serves up a delightful dose of eroticism and kink and masterfully so but also a lot of emotion and heart within those varied and integral sex scenes and what makes this book just a little bit different for me personally was the fact that our beautiful and selfless heroine Sophie aka Mistress Juliette is the domme. Usually I gravitate towards those alpha male roles, where the hero growls and grunts a lot and exclaims “Mine!” every two seconds but with William’s character he is able to play the role of submissive whilst still retaining that powerful, sexually virulent and intense persona.

‘“He lowered his voice, yet his tone was still rough and filled with heat. “Just like a domme knows how to read a sub, a sub can read their mistress. When she’s happy or sad…when she’s fighting her emotions.” William pulled me to him, molding me against his body. His warmth burned through the fabric of my dress to singe my skin.

“Shouldn’t you ask to touch me?” I probed.

“I’m tired of this s**t. Desperate times call for desperate measures.”’

Subordination is so well written that both characters immediately pull you into their sphere of drama, secrets and romance, you experience the ups, downs and the fun and laughter that comes in between all of the turmoil and sadness. There may be a good healthy dose of sex (but what good BDSM book wouldn’t?) but the scenes add something to the overall story, it is an intimate window into the connection and pull that Sophie and William have on one another, one that expands and builds into a beautiful and complicated love story. The plot is fantastic and realistic, with Katie’s fabulous use of characterisation and intensity within the storyline accumulating to bring forth this wonderful tale of relinquishing control, gaining the missing piece to your heart and soul and learning to forgive and become a better, more understanding person. Just because you don’t understand something, doesn’t make it wrong. And if Subordination is wrong, then I never want to be right.

Kitty's review posted at Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

I have always been a fan of Ms. Ashley and she greatly impressed me with her foray into BDSM. The story was extremely interesting and tastefully done. In fact, what impressed me the most was that she wrote a Domme instead of a Dom and she really did it with style.

Some surprises and some predicable situations kept this story moving and fun. When both Sophie and William let their guards down and enjoyed life and each other, the story took on a life of its own. The sex, both vanilla and kinky, was hot and artistically done. As Sophie truly let go of her inhibitions and allowed William into her life, she found that there could be a happy medium between the BDSM aspect of their relationship and love outside of the bedroom. But, a jealous Ex and one hot birthday present bursts the bubble. Now, to face the truth, the reality of their relationship, the wrath of ignorant people and family. Will their love withstand everything that is truly against them now?

There were a lot of emotional moments throughout Subordination and a whole lot of life lessons. You see that family will stick with you through thick and thin … you see that there is just about nothing you wouldn’t do for family … you see that your dreams just may come second to true love. William and Sophie kept me captivated with their personalities and love of life. William, even though he was a Sub, was not in the least wishy-washy. Sophie only brought out her dominance when it was appropriate but, definitely not in the most appropriate places which surprised me. But, that’s one thing that I adore about Katie Ashley stories … expect the unexpected.

So, after reading Subordination, one thing really crossed my mind. What an amazing author Katie Ashley is. From romance to rockers to MC and now, BDSM … it takes one hell of a talent to be able to cross all these genre’s and still stay true to herself with amazing stories and characters that we could and do fall in love with.

description

This was my first book with a Domme as the leading lady and it was a refreshing change. Not only was the story sexy and erotic but also witty and fun with some real life struggles happening around these two characters.

Mistress Juliette is a professional Domme and on her last night at Club 1740, a job she took to get through college and support her ailing father's farm. She never pictured herself as a Domme, but embraced her role and just as she was about to exit this life for her real one a sub so unlike the other's caught her attention. Never one for indulging in her own pleasure, there was something about William that made her want more from her sessions.

While their playtime was something for the memory bank, Mistress Juliette was hanging up the paddles and about the begin the next stage of her life as her real self, Sophie, a high school English teacher. Fate though had other ideas when William becomes part of this next stage. You see he is going to be her new boss and things are about to get really tricky.

This book was not your typical BDSM book. Sophie was not into the lifestyle and she made the story more intriguing. While she has a smart mouth, a fearless attitude, and is a bit bossy; she is just dealing with the life she was given. She is a caregiver and teacher and has expectations of what love should look like. William throws a wrench into her expectations and she doesn't deal well with that. A submissive, yet strong character, William should be every girl's dream. He needs a bit of pain but doles out just as good as he gets. These two were fun, hot and real. There story was entertaining but passionate and filled with emotion that had nothing to do with the bedroom. But what happens when scandal and tragedy strike?

~*~ 4.5 STARS ~*~

When I found out that Katie Ashley was diving into the world of BDSM romance, I was SO excited! This juicy, sexy, and emotional rollercoaster pushed all the right buttons for me. A dominatrix for hire + a lifestyle submissive = mind games, sexy times in and out of the sheets, and explosive chemistry. Sophie and William's blossoming love story had me intrigued from page one. Sparks flew, boundaries were crossed, and a deep admiration turned into something they could no longer deny. Every single chapter brought a new level of awesome, leaving me with tear-stained cheeks and a fast-beating heart.

The blurb gives nothing away, and neither will I, but this "accidental encounter" days after the epic night they shared, left me speechless. I didn't see it coming until it was too late. Once I realized the direction the author was going with this, you couldn't wipe the HUGE smile off of my face.

If you are looking for a romance that leaves you with butterflies in your stomach and flushed cheeks, SUBORDINATION by Katie Ashley is the book for you! Not only does this pack an extremely sexy punch, it hits you on an emotional level that will have you cheering on this couple through every word, every page, and every single chapter. A scorching hot and emotional BDSM romance that will leave you with a full heart and an even fuller appreciation for the talent of Katie Ashley.

5 Stars!

Wow... just honestly I have no words. No matter who writes a review for this book, they won't be able to do it justice. This book was brilliantly written and I am sad to say one of my first books by this author. But hey honestly no worries, because she definitely had a new fan in me.

This author gave me a story that was like no other I have ever read. It was sexy. It was sweet. It was witty. It was smart. It was so very intense. It was beyond passionate. It was highly erotic. And this book was truly heartwarming and made my heart just want to burst the he!! wide open.

Sophie and William's story will grab you from the very first word. Once I started, I couldn't flip the pages fast enough. This book devoured me completely just like I did it. These two will give you tons of feels and your will ride emotional roller-coaster. This will be a top read of 2015 for me.

Are you ready for this? I would definitely a bob near by and keep fresh panties because they are going to be melted away. The steam in this book is so hot and so sexy... shew! Their story is going to mark your soul, just like mine, and will leave your completely breathless by the end.

This is Sophie and William's story. Their story was intricately woven and written in such a way that the emotions, feelings, love and passion just roll right off of the pages. You will swoon and you will definitely fall in love. And once you start there's no stopping until the very last word.

I highly recommend this book.

I loved this book! It was such a twist on the BDSM genre for me. In most of the books I've read in this genre there is a Dom but in this book we have a Domme.

Sophie worked in Club 1740 for several years while she was in college and it not only paid for her education but the money she earned helped her sick father and little brother. She was a Domme but not a typical one. She didn't participate only provided a service for her clients. But now she's off to her new teaching job and back to her family.

We meet up with her on her last night of employment. Sophie had no idea that when she decided to have a little fun with an unscheduled client that her entire life would change.

William is a strong, handsome and incredibly built man that likes to dabble in some BDSM ever now and again. He is immediately attracted to Sophie and asks to see her again but she's done with Club 1740 and everyone attached to it. Until of course she happens to run into him the next day.

That's when their love affair begins even though walking away would've been better for both of them. Sophie's gut tells her that she should just let him go but her heart is already attached. William feels it too and knows that he can't let her go.

Katie does an amazing job with this book. I couldn't stop reading it. There's some angst in this book and a real bitch in this book that will make you want to reach in and hurt her. I saw it coming and still I found myself yelling at my Kindle. Highly recommended for those that love BDSM, a big of angst and some teacher loving.

Sophie has been working at 1740 for 5 years to help put herself through college and pay the bills on her family’s ranch. The money she makes also helps support her father who has muscular dystrophy.

Her family doesn’t know she works at the private BDSM club and the one thing she has never done is have sex with one her subs!

On her very last night at 1740 she meets William. She is immediately drawn to the Henry Cavill look alike.

When William comes face to face with Sophie he knows he wants to play with her. During their scene, Sophie gives in and takes pleasure from a sub.

Sophie just can’t stop thinking about William, she is even having dreams about him. When a chance encounter occurs, these 2 can’t deny their attraction to one another.

Will these two find a way to be together despite all the differences and challenges they face?

William and Sophie are amazing as a couple, the banter between them is fun and open.

The story is romantic, sexy, fun, heart breaking and beautiful. I loved that the author hit on a subject that I know very well from a care giver stand point, it was approached with great care and a very important part of the story without taking the focus away from William and Sophie!

You can make plans and decide what your path in life will be. That is all well and good, but... sometimes life has other plans for you and no matter how stubborn you are about staying in the path you have chosen, you will need to adapt and accept that nothing in life is perfect. It is out of those imperfections, or deviations if you will, that life presents us with challenges and triumphs we may have otherwise missed.

Our story follows Sophie as she is about to achieve her life-long desire to become a teacher. She has done everything in her power to put herself through college while supporting her brother and her wheelchair-bound father. It has taken incredible determination and self-control to achieve this.

When William comes into her life, she recognizes there is something special between them. Letting this unique attraction grow is both scary and invigorating. How they recognize this feeling is mutual and growing is the constant undercurrent to our story.

In the end, we walk away knowing life is full of challenges. A well-planned future has to be adjustable. We must bend to the unexpected trials we find along our way to our future. Love is the constant and family sustains us.
