This series is so, so good! Love everything about it. All 5 stars for me and a PERFECT stars for Jen Wylie. Though the first two books prior to this one is more action packed, this one starts off with a short break, like a calm before another huge storm. Into a prophecy that I can’t wait to happen! ;)

There is huge character growth. It’s like I’m in the front seat watching Aro blossomed into this amazingly beautiful and brave lady. I smiled the first time she fell in love, cried every time her heart breaks and proud for what she has become. (The 2nd book had me crying lots. ;) ) I LOVE all the lead characters.

I want the prince back. It’s just not the same without him in the group and with Aro. I want to know what happened to Kei when he was with Dragos. And Aro’s brothers. I want to know more about them and know what happened to them too. Sigh.

Another one that goes to the top of the list of my favourite paranormal/fantasy, action packed, fast paced adventure series. A treasure found that made my day. Just sad I don’t know when the next book is gonna be out. I hate the wait. But all great writers/books are worth the wait. :)

Thanks to Jen Wylie for giving me this book to review.

After delivering the Prince to his home, Aro and her boys need to recover from this last year. They decide to stay in the city of Westport for the winter, to figure out what to do next, and to discover what happened to Aro’s brothers. However, not everything goes to plan as the Were King is displeased with the group’s disregard of Were law, and the Elves are displeased with the change in the Prince and use his only weakness, Aro, against him. Aro is forced to rely on a new ally, the ruthless pirate, Roan, with secrets and an agenda of his own, should Aro really trust him?

Broken Promise is the really enjoyable third book in the Broken Ones series. It is slower paced than the first two book, especially the first half. The second half is better as it is action packed and has bits of romance.

Aro has been though an awful lot in the last two books and I am glad she got a bit of a break in this book, even though I did get a bit bored of her moping after the Prince, but there are lots of people after her either to kill or use her. Kei and Prince are not in this book as much as I would have liked and I did miss them, but there was an interesting new character, Roan, as I never knew what he was thinking or what he was going to do next.

I really liked this book and am looking forward to the next book in the Broken Ones series. I would recommend Broken Promise to fans of Jen Wylie, especially those whose who enjoyed the first two books in this series, Broken Aro and Broken Prince.

I think I should start with the cover of the book which is perhaps the worst cover I’ve encountered at least while running this site so far. See the cover just involves a close up of a rugged good looking guy who I guess after reading is supposed to be the dashing pirate captain Roan who I will cover in a bit more detail later. The thing is it tells you nothing about the book and gives you the impression that this is one of the steamy feminine books that involve a good few spicy scenes that get the blood boiling without the need for a sword fight or daring escape if you catch my drift. The thing is the book isn’t like that at all, oh sure romance drifts in and it may have overwhelmed the previous books in the series but it defiantly gives the wrong impression here.

See all the UST went once they dropped Prince Charming off at the Elven capital, well mostly as his memory still lingers on. In fact if anything the book deals with a lot of memories which make this a good breather for those who have been following thus far and a fairly decent jumping on point for newbies. It works like a cross between a bottle episode and a training montage as winter begins to set in and the group must go to ground not least to avoid the Werewolf king coming down to meet them for daring to form their own pack without his permission. I guess it works like a licence thing though it does mean she gets the overly welsh name of Arowyn-en.

Picking the nearest city the group use their reward money to enter the daring and dangerous world of property management. Here they unload and deal with their losses and plan for the future. The prophecy itself is held in bits and pieces inside the mind of young Kei and it is up to him to sort it out, like a jigsaw without a box picture to follow, also it concerns the future of him and the rest of the world, oh and it’s also driving him slightly crazy.

You see the Fey seem to be a kind of like Eladrin only in this world they have all Hulked out and now prowl the countryside lost to years of anger and frustration. While the other races try and hold off the Vox many believe they could be the deciding vote in the whole thing and thus it is up to Arowyn to go around drawing the anger out of them and healing them kind of like that one kid from “Children of the Atom” who was apparently part of the founding members of the x-men but has never been mentioned since.

Now I am not usually one for prophecies and chosen ones but to be honest it is handled quite well in this book with others aware of the prophecy and working around it and Arowyn both in aid and against it. Usually this would mean either joining the party or trying to wipe them with some overly elaborate death trap but instead here we get characters who care little for the party and would usually be a big bad in any other fantasy adventure series instead watching over them. Sort of like if Dr No wanted James Bond to succeed on a mission.

The book is fairly slowly paced without ever feeling like it is dragging along, instead we get to spend some time in their company and even though I’ve just met them I found it a fairly enjoyable experience. Arowyn spends much of the book wondering what it is men want, while Bo gets to know the locals and Kei tries to push the group on toward their goal. That isn’t to say that nothing happens in the book of course but it is certainly past the first act that the twists and turns come into play making it a bit of a hard judge for me what I can talk about and what I can’t. Lingering on from the kiss between Arowyn and the Prince comes some who would use her as a weak point to attack him. Also there is a pirate captain roaming around town who you can tell by the name drops is going to become important to the plot before the end of the book. Of course the question becomes whether toward the light or dark side of the narrative and once again I am kind of relieved that the answer, even now that I have finished the book is not a hundred percent clear. He like everyone else around the core group has their own agenda which intersects the prophecy but stands apart from Arowyn herself and thus he must make it work with the chosen one being a teenage girl crushing over Prince Charming the mopey elf.

Once the action does happen it plays out over the rest of the book with few flashes of intense action but instead well thought out arcs to play out through the rest of the book. Long-time fans of the series will see some changes in the party make up before the book is through and these will be noticeable for new comers as well without belting them around the head to get the point across. As for the party themselves they do not fall into the typical Do’Urden dungeons and dragons trap of levelling up until nothing short of the world ending can pierce their ultimate armour and plot importance. Heck the party is pretty roughed up in what seems to be a standard tavern brawl which adds some weight when they face down a full grown dragon later on.

This is clearly not the end of the story, even I could tell that before we reached the half way point and in truth I can see this tale running for another few books yet. For those weary of long running fantasy sagas that feel stretched this is probably a good argument that this will not suffer the same fate. Instead we get a few tense game changers that we are given time to savour and enjoy instead of sending them off against some sub-lieutenant of the big bad just to pad out the pages.

I have to say, Jen Wylie does not disappoint! What a fantastic adventure. I mean seriously, this story has gone from absolutely wonderful to freaking perfect! I have loved Aro and Prince since book one. The series has been an emotional roller coaster but what a ride!!!! And with another book surely to come in this series, I am stoked!

I would like to recommend this book to you. If you have taken the time to read the reviews, then you are considering it. Go for it! You will not be disappointed.

I would like to thank Untold Press for the review copy provided. As well as Jen for another great book that I will certainly be reading again!

Jen tricked me there for a moment. I totally thought this was the last book in this amazing series but when I reached the end of Broken Promise, I realised there is much more story to be told. I was a bit sad and hesitant to read this as I didn't want to say goodbye to Aro, Prince, Bo, Garen and Kei. Knowing there is a fourth book coming I am so so happy! All I have to say is this: check this series out if you haven't already. It is amazing. Go buy Broken Aro, book 1 NOW! This would have to be my favourite of the series so far. My only complaint is there wasn't enough of Prince!

A BIG thank you to Untold Press for providing a copy for review! The following are my own thoughts and opinions of this book.

Broken Promise
by Jen Wylie is book three of The Broken Ones series. The story picks up later on the same day that Aro, Kei, Bo, and Garen left Prince at the gates of the Elven kingdom. Returning to the werewolves, they learn that the Were King is now coming to speak with Aro and he isn't happy. Thanks to the generous reward from the Prince for his return, they have more than enough money to winter and rest in the nearby city of Westport. But nothing goes the way they plan. Kei is restless, the Damon is watching them, the Were King is waiting, and the Elves aren't happy with Aro's relationship with Prince. Will Aro be able to save herself and those she loves?

Old and New Friends

I cannot say enough just how much I love this series and the characters within! In another life, you know the one where I live in the same world as the characters, Aro would be my bestie. She is independent, fiercely loyal, and most definitely a tomboy. She is emotional at the beginning of this book, but has every reason to be. After traveling with Prince for nearly a year, he is gone. A Were King is angry with her and his punishment could be death. And then there is Kei, who seems to be angry with her as she tries and continues to fail when learning about their bond and how to use it. There is tremendous growth with Aro this book as she continues in her quest to save the Fey.

Then of course I can't forget Aro's boys: Bo, Garen, and Kei. For some reason, I've pictured Bo much older than he actually is, which is finally revealed in this book (twenty-eight). I saw him in his mid- to late-thirties and more a father figure to Aro then a brother. During this book though, there is more about Bo than in the previous two and I just fell in love with him. He is so sweet, tender-hearted, and protective when it comes to Aro. The werewolf Garen, thanks to a rune from Prince, is able to winter with them in the city disguised as a large dog. He is very loyal to Aro and cares for her, but he is still so mysterious. I want to know more about him (like why can't he turn human, where did he come from, how old is he, etc.), hopefully book four will shed a little light on him. And Kei....he is perhaps the character I missed the most between books. He is loving, wild, and devoted to Aro, but the city makes him stir-crazy and he feels that Aro is giving up / not working hard enough on the quest to save the Fey. He becomes angry and because of his anger he lands himself in a whole heap of trouble.

During this book, we are introduced to several new characters, but two stick out in my mind as important. Roan is a bit of a local celebrity. He's a pirate who when he is in port makes sure the locals behave according to his own set of laws. He also has a big secret that only Aro knows. The other is Baelan, an elf who claims is sent by Prince. He is unlike Prince in every way. He actually shows emotion and seems to smile all the time, though if you ask me I pictured him to look a bit deranged. Through a series of events, Aro must trust both at one point with her life, but the question remains, can she?

What's Going On?

The plot of this book differs from Broken Aro and Broken Prince as it focuses mainly on character growth and development. Aro is hurting again, the Fey rely on her to heal them, the Elves and Were King are angry with her, and Kei seems to be as well. Aro struggles and perseveres in this story. She overcomes, and I felt like she is tried more in this book than the previous two. Just to give you an idea of what is to come without any spoilers (in other words I'm not telling you who or when these things occur): kidnapping, drugging, torture are just a few of the things that Aro and her boys must deal with.

I found the storyline to be a bit on the darker side than the others have been as Aro and the boys must overcome what is thrown their way. In fact, a few tears may have been shed on my part (yes, they most definitely were). Between the Elves and the Dragos, Aro has her plate full, not to mention this wedge that has come between her and Kei. I think of all the things that occur to are characters in the book that wedge was the worst for me.

My Conclusions

I think if you've read this far that it is obvious I loved the book! I love the characters and it is Aro's plight that drives the plot. The suspense, the new characters, all of it just adds to this amazing epic fantasy that Wylie has created. I really do not want this series to end, but I can't wait to find out what happens next! If you enjoy fantasy, young adult fiction, and a bit of suspense ;) or if you've read the first two books, then you do not want to miss this installment of The Broken Ones.

Broken Promise is the third book in the phenomenal The Broken Ones series by Jen Wylie. It carries on from where Broken Prince left off. It grabs you and sucks you into the story. It wraps around you and makes you feel a part of what is happening. So every word impacts on you, every fear and heartache is yours. And any glimpse of happiness is yours to share and rejoice in. The Broken Ones series touches your heart and never leaves you. I simply adore this series and can’t get enough of it. Beautiful, amazing and heartbreakingly wonderful.

Opening Scene:

The small fire crackled and popped.

The Review:

A year of turmoil takes its toll on Aro and her companions. After safely delivering Prince to his homeland they decide to rest for the winter in the city of Westport, before starting their quest to heal the Fey. Yet this like most things in Aro’s life does not go as planned. Kei is struggling with the prophecy bound within him, and his sanity starts to unravel with dire consequences. The Dragos is watching and the Were King is not pleased with the disregard of Were law. But yet another threat looms over Aro. The Elves are displeased with their Prince and exploit his only weakness, Aro.
Forced to find a new ally, a cold hearted pirate named Roan, who is more than he seems. Aro must learn who she can trust, or more than her life will be at stake. This year of turmoil and pain has made Aro grow stronger, but will it be enough to save not only her life, her family and the Elf she loves?

Notable Scene:

She eventually calmed the raging torrent of thoughts into a less chaotic ramble. Whether the mindless task of running or the silence of the forest helped her she didn’t know, or care. Perhaps her thoughts had just run their course.
Even the fierceness of her emotions dimmed somewhat. The anger, the fear, and the sadness didn’t quite overwhelm her anymore. A sharp bitterness came forward, mainly directed at herself. Why couldn’t she just be happy? They had returned Prince to his home. He’d be well now, and safe. She should at least be happy about that, but she wasn’t. A selfish part of her wanted him still by her side.
She refused to cry. However, her body and mind persisted on urging her to do so, to drop to the ground and wail and scream out her heartache and loss.
Chest tight and eyes stinging with unshed tears, she pushed herself to run faster.
When darkness dropped from trees before her onto the shadowed ground, her breath lodged in her throat as she scrambled to stop her headlong run.
She saw only flashing claws and snarling teeth as she skidded to a stop, hands grasping for daggers. The clawed shadow leapt forward before she could pull them and she stumbled backward, heart pounding. Fear stole her voice as she lost her footing in her wild attempt to evade those deadly claws. She crashed onto her back, the breath knocked out of her.
Weaponless and vulnerable, she raised her chin in defiance to the death about to claim her.

This is the third book in Jen Wylie's The Broken Ones Series and in my opinion it's the best one to date.

Aro has been through so much in this series but that's nothing compared to what she endures in this book. After returning Prince home and finding out that the Were King isn't happy with her and wants her detained so that he can speak to her she decides to wait out the winter in Westport. Bo and Garen find a buy them a house in the city with the money they received from Prince after returning him home. Things are going good but that doesn't last long.

The City of Westport is where everything gets exciting in the book. Dragos returns and isn't happy with the progress she's making with the prophecy so he takes one of her family members captive. There's nothing the rest of them can do but wait until Spring because Dragos has promised to return him to her by then.

Lets not forget that Aro finds herself kidnapped, drugged, chained up again, and beaten by some Elves who weren't pleased about her and Prince's final interaction before she left Rivenward. She does manage to escape with the a little bit of help but she doesn't get far before they start coming after her. While fighting for her life she injures one and kills another before help arrives in the form of a new ally....The Pirate Captain Roan. When she discovers that he's more than what he seems she needs to figure out is she can trust him.

I will admit that I was more than a little bit worried that when I read this book we wouldn't have any interaction with Prince and I wasn't happy about that. Imagine how happy I was to see that wasn't the case. Even though we only get a couple of scenes with Prince and they are further into the book they continue to give me hope that one day he and Aro will be together.

This book was beyond what I was hoping for. I found myself sitting on the edge of my seat quite often with all the action going on. Then I would find myself wondering how many more "men" were going to become interested/fascinated in Aro because of this prophecy and the things that she's capable of doing.

An amazing read that I will most definitely be recommending to others. I can't wait for Broken Kei to be released so I can see what happens next with Aro and her family. I'm hoping that we still get a couple scenes with Prince in them. I want nothing more than for everyone to be wrong about her and Shael. Jen you continue to amaze me with this series. I'm totally in love with these characters and a fan of yours for life. If you haven't checked out these books yet you need to do so now. You won't be disappointed.

The big slow down

Broken Promise was an intense and also slowed down book compared to the first two books in the series. We are used to a fast paced, no stalling story, and we are met with events that take Aro and her pack's progress to a grinding halt.

It was super interesting to take some time to learn more about all of the factors that contribute to the main goal of the story: healing the Fey and fighting the Vor. I think it was very easy to forget about the goals in the first two books, and here we really focus on the subject, which was great.

Politics and Prophecies

The pace of this story was significantly slowed down compared to the rest of the series. An almost devastating event causes Aro to go into hiding for almost the entire book, in which case we get a rare glimpse into her psyche.

We also learn a lot more about elven politics and the prophecy, which is a great setup for the next novel. Prince stays a prominent talking point throughout the book, and a lot of the events of the book revolve around him, but OH MY GOD do I miss him! No matter how much the characters talk about him, it is so hard not to hear from him or read about him directly.

A whole new cast of characters

I appreciate that the character's attitudes reflected the change of pace in the story. Each of them had a unique perspective on the situation and very different outcomes.

We FINALLY get to meet Roan, the mysterious, dangerous pirate we heard about repeatedly in Broken Prince. Believe me, he did not disappoint. There is so much more to him than his persona that we hear about over and over again, which makes him such an incredible character.

We also meet Baelan, though I won't spoil who he is, why he's around, and what he does. Basically I'm telling you he's a compelling character and you should read the series to find out more about him. Enough said.

Fighting temptation

Broken Promise was centered around willpower and strength. Aro fights through some addiction issues and must figure out how to fight the urges, and reduce her need for it. The issue of addiction is brought up many times in the novel, and it demonstrates how hard it can be to break free, even for people are are willing and able.

Time for romance?

Broken Promise has badass pirates, crazy assassin elves, and... a budding romance? You'll have to read to find out! Despite the needed respite, I am really looking forward to seeing where the group will go next in book four, Broken Kei.

I've been waiting on this book to come out for what feels like ever so from the minute it downloaded on my kindle I couldn't put it down.

This is the third book in The Broken Ones series and continues from where Broken Prince left off with Prince having returned to his homeland and Aro left dealing with his enemies who are eager to exploit his relationship with her. Add into the mix an unhappy Were King and an equally unimpressed Dragos, Aro has a lot to deal with.

Although there was very little Prince in this book the new additions made up for it. I loved Captain Roan. The fiery relationship he had with Aro was fun to read and I found myself sad to see him go at the end. Baelan I think we will get to see more of in the next book, the twist towards the end was interesting and I can't wait to see how he fits in to the group, Perhaps Prince will finally have a little competition ;)

Although I really enjoyed this book I rated it four out of five five because I had hoped to see a more kick ass, independent side of Aro with Prince temporally out of the picture but disappointingly she spent what felt like a lot of the book moping around, pining after him.

Another great book in the series. Bring on book four!

I've finally put my finger on what makes Jen Wylie's books so amazing - emotion! This series is overflowing with emotions, both good and bad. They make you smile and tear at your heart strings all at the same time, and it's this roller coaster of emotions that binds you to the story and the amazing characters and makes you feel like you are right there playing a part in this epic tale. I just now turned the last page of Broken Promise, and I feel such an agonizing sense of loss. I thought that this was the last book in the series, and that everything would be happily wound up, but now I find out that there is another book to come, and I just don't know how I'm going to wait. My heart is breaking for Aro and Kei, and all they have both been through, and I need to know that together they can heal. Oh please Jen, tell me the fourth book is almost done!!!

This book is absolutely, unbelievably, great! I wouldn't expect anything less from Jen Wylie and this series! We are once again taken on a gripping adventure with Aro and her boys. New allies and enemies are made, the Captain is indeed an intriguing character. I didn't want to go to bed last night because I was so involved with the story already. I grabbed the book and read every chance I had throughout the day, wishing I could read without interruption until I was finished. Broken Promise is filled with excitement and keeps you hanging on edge all the way through. I am now wishing for the release of Broken Kei to be today, because if suspense could kill you I would die wondering what is going to happen to everyone during the few months we have to wait. Superb job, Jen Wylie! I can't wait to find out what happens with Aro and the boys next!

I love this series, totally love it. The world Ms. Wylie created for Broken is full formed, well described and believable. And the characters? Since book one I have felt like they could be real. I did not, fully, cry with this book like with the previous two but I was no less emotionally involved and invested in what happened. I cannot wait to see what happens next and hope Mr. Pirate makes another appearance, I very much liked and disliked him at the same time.

Love this series!!! So much turmoil with the different characters and plot twists. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat. Ms Wylie does a terrific job of painting a scene with her language that I feel I am in the story watching. I really hope to see more of Prince soon.

My Thoughts
Ugh, Miss Wylie, that rotting elf! Why?! His character can be such a jackass, seriously. This story continues right after Broken Prince leaves off. They have just returned Prince to his home, after his long over-due, heart stopping kiss with Arowyn. She demanded that he not kiss her again until he knew that he loved her, and dammit if that jerk didn't kiss her before he left her for.. basically forever. The remainder of the pack travel on without Prince to the home of Rhee-En and his weres. There, Rhee-En informs her that the King of all the Weres has discovered that she created a pack using Were magic that he did not approve, especially because she is not a Were. The king is angry, and Aro doesn't know if he will kill her. Just another issue to add to Aro's ever-growing list of enemies.

The remaining members of Aro's 'pack' settle in the city of Westport for the winter, where they will hopefully be safe. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Through multiple kidnappings, murder attempts, and new friends that cannot be trusted- Aro wants nothing more than Prince at her side and to begin with the prophecy. Healing the Fae has become her top priority, and she will do it alone if she has to. Her bonded Fae- Kei really isn't in this book all that much, and I can't reveal the reason without giving away too many spoilers. I can say that his visions of the prophecy are becoming increasingly stronger, and it has begun to drive him insane. The words of the fated prophecy are all that he can see, night and day, and he becomes irate and distant. Aro's character continues to amaze me, with the amount of heartbreak and stress that she is under every day- the fact that she is able to remain strong and function is testimony to her strength of heart and mind! I fully respect and admire her character. Bo and Garen are also wonderfully written characters- both of them are always there whenever Aro needs them. They are loyal friends that are always there when needed, yet know when to stand down when Aro's strength can handle a situation.

With new characters being introduced throughout this novel, the reader really has no idea who to trust. Enemies sprout from the woodwork, so to speak, and friends turn to enemies in a heartbeat. The plot line is thick and twisted, well thought out and deliciously dark! I loved every minute of it. The only reason I cannot rightfully give it a full 5 stars is because of Prince. Damn him. I am really beginning to not like him, sadly, and I am beyond upset that he still hasn't pulled his elf head out of his ass yet! It is beyond frustrating Miss Wylie! And now, when the group is getting ready to go heal the Fae, he is still nowhere to be found. Hiding in his castle, afraid of his parents?! Are you kidding me?! Ugh! Ok, I'm done ranting this time, really! All in all, The Broken Ones series is increasingly becoming one of my favorites, and I highly recommend it to everyone! Urban fantasy junkies, fae obsessed readers, and especially fans of dystopian novels- as this reminds me a lot of a dystopian style world; read this series! You will not be disappointed! (:

I’ve been looking forward to reading Broken Promise since June last year, when I finished reading Broken Prince.

Broken Promise follows Aro, Kei, Bo and Garen as they head to Wesport to see out the winter. Having just dropped Prince back to his homeland, Aro is full of conflicting emotions. However she soon has little time to dwell on them as their expected recuperation over winter becomes hijacked and all of those she loves are threatened.

The book started straight on from where it left off in Broken Prince. I probably should have reread the first two to refresh my memory however you are given small tidbits of recaps to help you remember. I liked that the first part of the book didn’t rehash all that had happened in the previous two books. I find that tiresome and only good for someone who doesn’t know what is going on.

I did find the book a little slow in the beginning. A lot happened however I found that I couldn’t quite connect to the story. About a third of the way in it seemed to fall into place and I was able to connect to the story.

Aro is the same old Aro. She is both endearing and frustrating at the same time. I really liked Roan, however I was a little confused by his actions towards Aro.

The story was well written. While reading it, I did wonder at the necessity of the story and whether it should have only been a three book series as even though it was interesting and I enjoyed it, it felt like a lot of filler however the ending wrapped it up into a neat little package and it all made sense. I was very impressed. The ending is quite abrupt though. It definitely leaves you wanting more!

I did find it a little bit unrealistic and to be honest, annoying, how Aro seems to wind up sleeping with a man all the time (and I actually mean sleeping, not having sex). She’s not really the one who initiates it so I’m not really annoyed at her per se, more that for a sixteen/seventeen year old girl, the amount of men she has shared a bed with is a bit ridiculous (when none are in a sexual manner). Also the fact that Roan sleeps naked. I mean, really? I don’t really understand what the point of having that in the book was?

I did really enjoy reading Broken Promise and I’m looking forward to reading the final book in the series, Broken Kei, however unlike the previous two books, Broken Aro and Broken Prince, this one didn’t leave a mark like they did. I’m not sure if it was me or the book.

Anyway it was an interesting story and it kept me turning the pages and I would definitely recommend reading it however only if you’ve read the first two books in the series, which are fantastic so if you haven’t read them then what are you waiting for?!

My first epic review got erased, and I'm pissed. So this one will be a little less awesome. Sorry Jen Wylie.

So, this book is just flipping fantastic in every manner of speaking. I must admit, I was hesitant when I found out the majority of the book would not include our merry band of men, and aro, but this book was just as good as the other two. This is probably the only series I can say that I do not have a favorite out of the trio so far. I have equally loved each book. Anyway, onto the nitty gritties.

We have Kei who is struggling with the prophecy and pretty much going crazy. Something has to change. Something has to break. OOOH MYSTERIOUS. BUT I CAN'T GIVE ANYTHING AWAY.

We have Aro, who runs into certain trouble and is in need of more protection than her boys can give her.

Insert Roan, the mean evil (good looking) pirate who protects aro (against her will sometimes.) He is one of the main characters here, and I LOVED HIS INSERT INTO THE STORY. He and aro really develop a strong relationship. I know many people have been asking what was the need for Roan in the book, but I believe Jen has an idea and he will be playing a role in the next book. If not, I'll be upset because he was a lot of fun and Aro really grew as a character under his care. And you know what else, not one moment of Aro's growth was boring. Not one.

Prince. Prince is struggling with his duty to his people or choosing his love for Arowyn. The elves have made it clear he cannot have both and kind of hate Arowyn for changing him. I wish there had been a couple more sweet, or even bickering, moments between Aro and Shael, but there was just enough to keep the book interesting.

The plot was action packed, but REALLY focuses on Arowyn's growth as she learns some hard life lessons that will help her in the future.

Okay, I try not to do this, but I can't help it. I have to compare this third book,to Sara J Mass' third book in the Throne of Glass series. Anyone notice the similarities? The main character being separated from her band of boys and meeting some elf dude who she hates but then grows to trust, and grows a lot in the process?

Well, let me tell you something. Jen does it better. SO READ THIS BOOK!!!!

Another fantastic book in The Broken Ones series!

This story picks up Aro’s tale right where Broken Prince left off, with Aro and her remaining companions figuring out where they will go next after returning Prince Shael to his homeland. Once they leave there, most of the story takes place in the city of Westport. Aro and her family now can afford to live comfortably but unfortunately, their troubles are far from over. The Were king is displeased with Aro’s decision to form a pack without his consent, there are some angry Elves running around who don’t like the changes Aro’s love has wrought upon prince Shael, Damon is being an arrogant prick as usual, and as if Aro needed more to add to the worry list there is also Roan - a ruthless pirate with his own agenda who has also taken an interest in Aro.

I liked the way this story showed a bit more about the bond between Aro and Kei and gave Aro a chance to explore the extent of her unique abilities derived from absorbing the fury of the Fey. What I found frustrating was the way nothing much happened between Aro and Prince – he only showed up briefly in the story. The impression I got at the end of Broken Prince was that things were finally going to be resolved with those two (even if they couldn’t be together right away) so I was a bit disappointed to see Aro still unsure about Prince’s feelings towards her. Hopefully Prince will have a larger role in the next book and the up-and-down nature of his relationship with Aro can finally be put to rest. Aside from that, the book was a highly enjoyable read that I didn’t want to put down. I would recommend this book if you’ve read the first two in the series and loved them just as much as I did. I would recommend picking up the series if you’re looking for some good young adult fantasy with awesome characters, a unique and interesting world, good writing, and a good mix of action, romance, and suspense.

My edition: Kindle

Pages: 346

Series: The Broken Ones #3

Rating: 4.5

Review: ***Warning there will be spoilers if you have not read the first two books.***

First two books are Broken Aro and Broken Prince. I am enjoying this series so far. Broken Prince ended with Prince returning home. Aro is even more confused about everything. About the prophecy, her kiss with the prince, magic, and where she fits in. With her being the only human known to do magic, she is wondering more about magic and why humans don't have any.

That is the thing with falling in love. You can do it more than once. You can fall in, you can fall out.

Aro faces some tough battles in this one. Living in the city for the winter has turned out to be just as dangerous as living in the forest. The Were king isn't happy with her and neither are the Elves. Making some new enemies is easy for her but she is also finding new friends in Hale and a pirate. Or at least she is trying to.

I have to say this one was very up and down for me. I felt I was on a roller coaster. There were certain parts I was just like meh who cares to parts that I was on the edge of my seat wondering what is going to happen. There were a few times I had to stop myself from skimming just to find out what happened. I love that Wylie made a heroine who will save herself and not wait on a man to do it. So awesome.

Now I went to get the next book and ran into a snag. IT ISN'T EVEN OUT YET!!! What the blue heck? This is the fourth series I am having to wait on a bloody book to come out. Not cool! Can I please read a series that is all the way out and I don't have to wait.

Broken Promise by Jen Wylie is the third book in the Broken Ones series. The first is Broken Aro and the second, Broken Prince. They aren’t intended to stand alone, so I suggest starting at the beginning.

Broken Promise takes up shortly after Broken Prince leaves off. Aro and her boys return to the friendly were pack to try to recoup after some very rough adventures. Kei is anxious to start freeing his people from their fury, but Aro needs to rest and recover. Reluctantly, after a less than warm welcome from the once friendly were, they head to the city for the winter. The prophecy says that they’ll be safe there.

Safety seems to be a relative thing were prophecies are concerned. Driven crazy by the confines of a city and the bits of prophecy rattling around in his brain, Kai begins to fracture mentally. After he’s taken, Aro runs into her own problems, namely murderous elves and dangerous allies. It seems the city isn’t as safe as the prophecy says. Can they make it through winter intact and ready to face the coming struggles in the spring? Read and find out.

I loved Broken Promise. The whole series is highly enjoyable and this book doesn’t disappoint. It’s full of action, adventure and a very sweet romance. The characters continue to develop and the mystery behind the world slowly starts to unfold. I highly recommend this series to fantasy lovers. The world is vibrant and the characters interesting and dynamic and the takes on elves and weres are fresh and interesting.

Jen Wylie, I believe you broke into my brain, captured the heart of my imagination and put it onto paper for all to see. To say the least, I am totally addicted to 'The Broken Ones' book series. Each and every book in this amazing series has been one that I truly could not put down. The tone, the plot, the setting, the characters...everything about this series, not just this book, but all of them in the series, have captured my heart. I am truly at awe with how thoroughly your writing can draw a reader in to where I felt as though I was traveling along with the story helping Arowyn make her decisions. It was almost as though Labyrinth had had come to life.
This particular installment, I believe is my favorite so far, although it is very hard to choose between them all. It not only has all of the action, adventure, love, betrayal and everything in between, but it also shows Aro's confusion and vulnerability as she changes from the wild child into to wise woman she is to become. It is heartfelt and yet exciting and adventurous. I am truly and impatiently awaiting the release of 'Broken Lei', your 4th installment for this series. Tomorrow would not be soon enough for its release.
Job well done Jen Wylie! Your books truly enchant my heart.

Broken Promise is another amazing addition to The Broken Ones Series! The book takes up where Broken Prince ends, right after Aro leaves Prince at the Elven Kingdom. She and her boys end up spending the winter in a village, which is a bit different from the first two books. You get to see Aro grow and become an even stronger protagonist. We also get to meet new characters, like Captain Roan, who is as fascinating as he is mysterious.

What I love about this book is how close I felt to the characters, to not only Aro, who’s really showing her independence, but also Bo, Garen, and Kei, who are all so dynamic and well rounded. This book is paced so perfectly, with excellent world building, and I nearly cried when I reached the end. Ms. Wylie has a style that brings readers in and forces them to become part of the story. One of my favorite elements of the book—of the entire series—is the relationship between Kei and Aro. It’s so deep, with a love on a level that goes beyond romance.

This is an epic fantasy that not only continues to fascinate due to the colorful, rich world, but builds a strong connection to each and every one of the characters. I can’t wait for Broken Kei!

I love reading this series. The world Jen Wylie has build for her readers through this series is phenomenal. The magic, adventure and drama that unfolds with these characters traps you in the story straight from the beginning. Aro and her "family" have been together from the beginning they may have lost a few and gained some others but they stick together no matter the cost, they're always there for one another. I loved the new characters that were brought into Broken Promise, we also got to see a different side of Dragos than we have seen before which was nice. The Broken Ones is one of my favorite series, I always love escaping into Aro's world. You just cant get caught up in the characters and their personalities, I really didnt think I would like Roan but he kinda grows on you. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves YA Fantasy, you wont be disappointed. I cant wait to see what Jen Wylie has in store for us next.

A very bittersweet story that has captured my utmost attention. I enjoy the character development and while I understand that perfect people are boring, and that the characters are broken, the way that Aro whines, throws temper tantrums and shows an unforgiving (if not vengeful) heart prevents me from becoming as attatched to her as I would like to be to the main character. I love the people she loves and they are the main reason I get afraid when she gets hurt because it would hurt them. Unfortunately she is often the child everyone says she is and it is... disappointing. She has rare moments of maturity and tends to frustrate me. That really should of taken off a star. However apart from her wild, reckless and immature behaviour the rest of the book is entirely enthrawling, and well worth the read.
