In the wake of an interrogation led by the UZTA's dictator, President Nicks, Rain Hawkins and her friends must deal with the consequences of their defiance as the countdown continues towards the execution of the mixed-zone citizens across the United Zones of The Authority. The Freedom Front faces new challenges as Rain's cousin, Calista, prepares for her impending relocation to the pure zone, and Rain sets out to solve the mystery surrounding her mother's torment while being followed by an officer of the Elizabeth Guard. As she uses her abilities to dodge The Authority and follows the strange clues from her dreams, Rain is determined to persevere, to secure the future she and Jabari have been fighting for, and to earn The Freedom Front's ultimate goal of liberation.

So... even though I like Rain and Jabari as characters separate to each other (and not involved in an unrealistic romance), I have to say that Rain did really annoy me in this book. While I could understand her fear and worry about her mother, I thought that her original plan was incredibly selfish. I did have a lot of sympathy for what her mother was going through, though.
I did empathise with the child version of Nicks and it was good to have the opportunity to learn more about Niyol. The fact that this book picked up where the previous one left off was really good... but Nicks made me shudder when she was interrogating Rain. While I had sympathy for her past self, her current one comes across as completely evil.
I liked the opportunity to see a more serious, sensitive side to Marcello. When I had the opportunity to see past his constant flirting, I found him to be a really well-rounded character. However, although there were some elements of danger in this book, I felt that the abilities of the characters meant that their danger never really felt that real. And it was a bit annoying to see how Rain's abilities kept on growing.
I did like the scenes of tension in this book, especially where Rain's and Daktari's mother was concerned. There was a lot that was really painful to read about what she was going through. And the fact that they had to go through power outages and freezing conditions was pretty awful to see.
I did feel some sympathy for Calista, but by the end of the book, I'm not sure if she's actually on their side or not. It was good to see that the group were continuing their fight... and it was nice to see them drawing others into their cause. I don't think I trust Eric, but to be honest, by the end of the book, I don't think anyone can really be trusted.
I do have the fourth and final book ready on my Kindle to read. While I think the romance between Rain and Jabari will continue to annoy me, I am looking forward to seeing how it all ends.
Waiting so impatiently for the next book in the series, definitely fulfilled everything I wanted (except for an ending; do I have to wait for the next book??) In all seriousness though, I really enjoyed this book, one of my favorite dystopian series ever. I love the characters, the plot is brilliantly written, and the ideas are amazing!
I love this series and I can't wait until the next and final book comes out later this year. This instalment ended on somewhat of a cliffhanger and I can't wait to see what lead up to it. Something big is going to happen and Im excited for it. Everyone should read this series it's amazing.
A wonderful addition to to this series in this third volume. Once again the author got me hooked and i was loving every minute of it. We have new issues, choices, allies, new enemies, chaos, hope, faith, and fear. This story line of this book is well written and put together to follow the purpose and flow the situations and characters. A must read for any and all book lovers everywhere.
In this third installment of the post-apocalyptic world inhabited by Rain and her friends, more information is given, new allies are found, and new enemies as well. The purging of the impure is coming closer and fear invades everyone. However, Rain and her friends begin to learn about their gifts and plan for the end of the separation. Can love survive? I’m not telling, you have to read and find out.
I give this book 4.5 out of 5 clouds.
