A second intriguing 'Travis Delaney mystery' from Kevin Brooks, the critically-acclaimed master of suspense.
Fourteen-year-old Travis Delaney is trying to get his life back on track following the crash that killed his parents last summer. The police called it an accident, but Travis knows better. His parents were on to something, and whatever they were investigating . . . ended with their murder.
Since Travis's Grandad took over Delaney and Co, things have finally started to look up. But when his private investigation partner, Courtney, is attacked following a routine inquiry into a local business, Travis can't help but get involved, even though he's supposed to be focusing on his own investigation into thefts at school. But what he discovers draws him into more danger than he ever could have imagined.
Tangled up in a web of gang warfare, dirty police and secret organisations, Travis needs to find a way out. But at the heart of it all is a traitor. Someone close to Travis. Someone he's supposed to trust.

Started OK but very basic, after about 20 pages looked at sleeve and blurb to see if it's a kid’s book. Persevered for about 60 pages’ story not bad but language strange. Read about author and it is for young adults. Could not read more

Fun series. This is book #2 and I picked it up not realizing that. There were obvious references to a first book, but I was able to read and understand on its own. A good recommendation for middle school boys who like Alex Rider or Michael Vey series.
I got this book just for the sake to finish a series that I started long ago. I got a lot more than I expected. For a kids spy book it has a difference in which it adds to the book. Instead of motherly figures such as Jacky in Alex Rider, instead his grandparents take care of him. He is also part of a detective agency. In this first book it was leaning more towards the mystery side but this one leans more to the thriller genre. The characters are okay, plot is good it’s just another spy book that you could read.
Spannende Geschichte.
This novel picks up exactly where the last one left off and continues Travis' search for the truth over his parent's death in a suspicious car crash...
This second installment sees the introduction of new and well rounded characters to the storyline, like Gloria who is working at the family business and has a murky histiry with both his family and the secret service...
Travis gets involved with several different cases that bring him close to real trouble many times over.
Kevin Brooks always writes brilliant thriller fiction, wether it's for YA or AF, and his foray into Middle Grade readers is no exception. The pace is always high, the mystery is convoluted and keeps you turning the pages and the ending of the novel is always as gripping as any other page!
This was good. I love Brooks regardless but I particularly enjoy the fact that he has started a series as it gives him a chance to really expand the characters.
