Omega Dragon is the fourth book in Children of the Bard, a sequel series to the best-selling Dragons in our Midst and Oracles of Fire series. This book concludes the adventures of Matt and Lauren, twin siblings born to Billy and Bonnie Bannister.
Bryan Davis is the author several speculative-fiction series, including Dragons in Our Midst, Oracles of Fire, Children of the Bard, Dragons of Camelot, The Reapers Trilogy, The Time Echoes Trilogy, Tales of Starlight, Dragons of Starlight, the Oculus Gate, Not So Famous Dog Tales, Astral Alliance, and Wanted: Superheroes.
Bryan and his wife, Susie, have homeschooled their four girls and three boys.
Bryan was born in 1958 and grew up in the eastern U.S. From the time he taught himself how to read before school age, through his seminary years and beyond, he has demonstrated a passion for the written word, reading and writing in many disciplines and genres, including fantasy, theology, fiction, devotionals, poetry, and humor.
Well, this concludes my year of rereading Dragons in Our Midst, Oracles of Fire, and Children of the Bard! What a joy to revisit these characters and relive their adventures.
Omega Dragon surges toward its epic conclusion with all the fury of an apocalypse. Explosions and gunfire rock the land. Paths between worlds have become fraught with danger. Many dear characters shed sacrificial blood...some even to the point of death.
It was heartening to see how far Matt and Lauren have come in such a short span of time. They are now right at home in their lineage of brave heroes.
I also loved the return of several characters from the first series. Their presence helped tie up all twelve books in this fiery finale. And that final chapter—it is the sigh of relief and contentment after a wild, satisfying ride.
5 stars! I highly recommend these three series for fans of dragons, epic plots, and deep themes.
I can't believe it's over. After twelve books and almost as many years, Bryan Davis's incredible series of series has come to an end.
But what an end it is!
An epic series deserves an epic finale, and I would say that Omega Dragon fits that description. Though both Earth and Second Eden are torn by the destructive schemes of the devil, Billy, Bonnie, Matt, Lauren, Sapphira, Elam, and the rest of our heroes continue to fight to the last. Their faith, courage, and sacrificial love are, as always, inspiring.
As is not surprising from a book dealing with the end of the world, Omega Dragon is somewhat darker than the rest of the series. Characters die and almost die, and there are many times when the situation seems hopeless. However, even in these darkest of times, the characters and the storyline never lose sight of the light.
I enjoyed seeing some of my old friends return in this book. Merlin, Shiloh, Adam, Carly, and others who we haven't heard from in a while all show up long enough to let us know they're still around, and often play valuable parts in the battle against evil. I also liked seeing the continued development of a certain character I somewhat disliked at the end of The Seventh Door and of Matt and Listener's relationship. And, of course, there's the ending, which was perfectly satisfying in almost every way, and which effectively wraps up the series while still leaving room for my imagination to come up with further adventures for my friends.
I do have a few quibbles with this book. One is that Davis does seem to take a few liberties with end-times prophecy (at least the bits that everyone agrees on) in order to tell a better story- but since it is end-times prophecy and not taking one of those liberties would've effectively made the story nonexistent (or else existent in a very different way), I'm not going to make a big deal out of it. To be honest, I possibly wouldn't have noticed several of the liberties taken had my pastor not been preaching on end-times prophecy around the time I read this book! The other quibble was a certain element of the ending which seemed almost too convenient . . . but as it was a pretty small detail (barely a paragraph or two long), again, I'm not going to let it spoil my enjoyment of the story as a whole.
Overall, Omega Dragon is a fitting ending to the story that began in Raising Dragons and has continued through three series. I'm sad to say goodbye at last to these characters and this world, but I'm also happy with the way it ended.
It's now been probably close to 5 years since I first picked up Raising Dragons. This series holds ups and downs, heart throbbing sadness and joy, romance, hair raising adventures, faith and above all love. I feel like I've grown up with Billy, Bonnie, Walter and Ashley.(and the other important main characters) and im sad that their stories are over, but im glad that for once a writer knows when to stop, and that I've experienced this series. Because if you're doing it right it's an experience, not a read. The biggest takeaway from this series and book in general, is that faith is real. And if people need help to see that, read the book. It will change how you view God; in a very positive and moving way! Also, i cried so many times in this book!!! So much heartache!!!😭 But Walter lived, so......😏

When you think of a glorious ending to a glorious trilogy of book series, what do you think of? I usually think of epic battles that put the heroes on edge and showing that they are indeed humans and not invincible, an enemy that is determined to complete his goal no matter what, and a conclusion filled with blood, glory, and absolute chaos. This book brought all of that, and then some. From the main characters experiencing physical and emotional weakness, to beloved characters returning to complete what has been set in motion, as well as going up against Satan himself in the final battle (that's right, I did not stutter in the slightest. They went up against the bad guy to end all bad guys). The eventual end was greeted at the beginning of the book with a word from the author, Bryan Davis. He stated that this will forever be the last book in this amazing fantasy world that he has set up, and if he were to continue it, it would be in short stories or letting the fans decide what happens. I appreciate his choice, but that doesn't mean that I won't be sad to know that I won't ever turn the pages of these brilliant novels. Farewell, Dragons In Our Midst/Oracles of Fire/Children of the Bard, you were the cat's pajamas.
THIS WAS THE BEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ IN MY ENTIRE LIFE! It wraps up all the loose ends of the previous 11 books in the best way imaginable. The ending makes you want to laugh and cry at the same time! I would recommend all 12 books to anyone!
This book is the last book in the children of the bard series. In this book Jared and Marilyn must journey to their home to get information about turning Jared into Clefspere. On the way however they met Mardon, the mad scientist who tried to lasso heaven and bring it down to earth which he had joined with hades. He wants to help but Marilyn isn't so sure. When Jared is planted in a pot with his life energy as the seed, something goes wrong and they must travel to second eden where a huge battle is taking place. Will Clefspere grow fast enough to battle Arramos? If not who will? None of the other dragons are strong enough.
Phew!! I highly doubt that I will ever again read from Raising Dragons straight through to Omega Dragon. This collection is a beast.
This was my first time reading Children of the Bard, and it was a lot more depressing than the previous two series. I’m glad I read it, and the great ending made me want to give this book four stars, but I felt like I was trudging through the rest of the book. I think I got overload from reading too much of this author at one time.
Oracles of Fire will remain my favorite series of this collection.
In this world it is refreshing to find good fiction that you can enjoy while being drawn to the Father. The characters are great examples for young people. The adventures are great. Couldn't put it down.
(Preface: This review applies more to the full 12-book series, not just this final book.)
What is there to say about this book, much less the giant series that it finishes?
For starters, I should say that I have grown up on Brian Davis's work. One of my most vivid memories is reading Raising Dragons in sixth grade. Now I've finished Omega Dragon within a week of my graduation from high school. Add this to the list of emotions I have to deal with. I should probably give a quick warning. The tag on this book probably says something like "Christian" or "Religious". Heed that well. If you're anti-Christian or dislike religious messages in your dragon oriented fictions, you'll probably get annoyed. Brian Davis is outspoken in all of his books concerning this topic, and these books are certainly no different. One more thing, if you aren't a fan of absolutely ridiculous storylines and circumstances, this series won't be for you. The growing fantastical nature of this series is drawn from a wide array of sources, ranging from Arthurian mythology to interdimensional travel to a full blown Biblical apocalypse. If your limits are anything below Doctor Who or the Twilight Zone, you'll probably be overwhelmed here. Having said that, I think these two seeming weaknesses lead into the two biggest strengths of this series. First, even the most cold-hearted or burned-out soul will be warmed and inspired by the messages in these books. If you don't immediately shout and throw away your book when you get to the first Bible verse, you will be spiritually renewed. To me, though, the most impressive thing Brian Davis manages to accomplish lies with his characters. A handful of good authors are able to make their characters genuinely believable and realistic. Only a fraction of the best authors will make you fell like you actually know the character, even after the book is done. Of course, some characters are better than others, but the sweeping majority will probably haunt my dreams and meld into my subconscious over the next few years. Of all that I think these books accomplish, I'm most enviable of this ability. I could go on for awhile about the poetry, the fanservice, the beautiful script, and the genius twists, but I think I've said enough for today. Best of luck in your various literary ventures. I'm going to go mourn the completion of my childhood.
I don't know where to begin. It was perfect. Such a great ending to the series, but also to the two previous ones. I don't want to say to much about it, other than 'please read it,' and that it was great from beginning to end.

Wow. The twelve book series that i have read for a year straight waiting for this book to come out is over. Ultimately, what is there to say other than that Bryan Davis has delivered a stunning conclusion to these amazing set of series. This book perfectly sums up everything Bryan was talking about in all previous eleven books. Family, faith, boldness, courage, love, compassion, it is all in this epic conclusion. The bottom line is that this was an amazing series to read, all of them from Raising Dragons to Omega Dragon, this has been and always will be my favorite book series to read. I thank Bryan Davis for making such great books to read, and hope that he will continue to.
A wonderful ending to the whole series. Chocked full of truths and action, adventure and sacrifice, it kept me turning pages even when I wanted to slow down because I didn't want it to end. Bryan Davis does an outstanding job as always, and I could not imagine a better ending to the series. Great job Mr.Davis!!
I enjoyed reading the whole series, so much so that I never want it to end. But sadly at the point of this review it has. So with that in mind I think the series ended well, and there's something in it for everyone at least in my point in view, if you like the action packed roller coaster type books that has a few mellow parts to it.
Bryan Davis's book, Omega Dragon is a wonderful conclusion to it all. All of the antagonists destroyed, but not easily at all. And Billy's surprise at the end, that was great. Though we never find out some mysteries like how Matt got his internal furnace or where the ice dragons of second eden came from, this ending was amazing

I loved this book. The whole series, actually. As sad as it is to see the end of the story after twelve books, I feel that it was very satisfactory, and that this is Mr. Davis' best book yet! Everyone who enjoys speculative fiction should read this series!
A wonderful ending to an awesome series. Though I must admit I kind of wish their adventures would never end. I never tire of reading these books over and over again.
For the ending of a 12 book series spanning thousands of years and dozens of characters, this ending certainly is in no way bad, but isn’t necessarily the best of the series
