Hang on for a wild ride with the three Claxton brothers, Civil War veterans who take refuge in the untamed West, and the three stubborn women who challenge their ideas of justice and freedom. Cole meets Wynne as she is seeking revenge from his youngest brother. Beau is near death when nursed back to life by Charity. Cass is tricked into marrying Susanne. Each brother has met his match, but will they be too stubborn to recognize God’s hand in these unions? The Peacemaker , The Drifter , and The Maverick
Lori Copeland was born on 12 June 1941. She had a relatively late start in writing, breaking into publishing in 1982 when she was already forty years old. Over the next dozen years, her romance novels achieved much success, as was evidenced by her winning the Romantic Times Reviewer's Choice Award, The Holt Medallion, and Walden Books' Best Seller award. She has been inducted into the Missouri Writers Hall of Fame.
Despite her success in more mainstream romantic fiction, in 1995, she decided to switch focus. Her subsequent books have been in the relatively new subgenre of Christian romance. She has also collaborated with authors Angela Elwell Hunt or Virginia Smith on a series of Christian romance novels.
Lori and her husband of over forty years, Lance, live in Springfield, Missouri, surrounded by the beautiful Ozarks. They have three grown sons, three daughter-in-laws, and six wonderful grandchildren, and two great-granddaughters. She and her husband are very involved in their church, and active in supporting mission work in Mali, West Africa.
If you enjoy reading a series here is a three in one for you. Men of the Saddle focus on three brothers returning home from war. I personally love stories where the men take the lead role, for some reason this is not usually the case. The peacemaker was my least favorite however I enjoyed this series.
The Peacemaker - Wynne Elliot has one thing on her mind, revenge. She can’t believe what Cass Claxton has done to her and she will get her revenge. She never expected to wind up being robed and in need of any assistance from any man. Let alone one like Cole. When she discovers who he actually is, she can’t wait to get away from him, yet what is it about him that she just can’t seem to get over? Wynne is a very determined, selfish woman, to be honest I didn’t really care for her much. However the chemistry between her and Cole is great.
Cole Claxton can not wait to get home to his mom and her home cooking. The last thing he wants to do is help this stubborn, addlebrained woman. Yet he was raised by a southerner and knows he must do what is necessary. When he discovers exactly what Wynne is up to he must put a stop to it. Can he stop her and keep his feelings for her in tact? Cole is a strong, independent man, Him I liked. I love his straight forward ways.
The Drifter - Beau Claxton is still getting over the loss of his wife, even after a year. He finds it hard to move on. When he must rely on others to help him can he repay the kindness to Charity and guard any feelings he may have. When he dares hope for a second chance does God have it in for him?
Charity Burk has begged God to send her a man. Since the death of her first husband she has been trying to keep the Kansas farm up and running. But is failing. When Beau is in need of help she has to wonder if this is the man God sent her. Is he ever going to be in any shape to help? Then when an unexpected bundle is dropped in their lap will it help push them together or will rumors tare them apart.
Beau and Charity have both been through very difficult circumstances. Both are strong and opinionated. I love the dialogue between the two and the emotional baggage they have.
The Maverick - Cass Claxton has built a great life for himself. In fact he is a most sought after bachelor. However when Susanne reenters his life he knows things will never be the same. Will she ever change? Why do they seam to always fight? She is nothing but Trouble, however he is drawn to her. When he is somewhat forced to help her and her nine children can he do it without killing her and without his heart getting involved?
Susanne McCord just wants to do what is best for the orphanage kids. When she realizes she need help from Cass, she wonders if God is trying to teach her something. She understands his mistrust of her, after all she is a changed woman, but how would he know. Why is it he brings out the worst in her? When she realizes she has lost her heart to him will God give her the desires of her heart or must she face the circumstances of her past and be forced to live with out him.
I will admit I did not like Susanne at first however I eventually started to like her. She and Cass must learn some valuable lessons. I love their personalities.
I was given a copy of this book from net galley for my honest opinion.
“The Wild West Brides” was a sweet and thrilling Christian 3 book series. Each story went by quickly and I was glad they were all put together in one book or I would have been upset waiting for the next! I enjoyed how each plot led into the next and characters were used between the stories. A charming and easy read.
First Book 2/5 Okay the book is alright but Wynne is... not. She's violent, hypocritical, and prideful to the point of idiocy. As a character I just really dislike her. Otherwise I am sure I would have liked the story better.
Second book The Drifter 3/5 This one was humorous and the characters were good. I liked this story but nothing to write home about.
Third book DNF I simply didn't feel like subjecting myself to a spoilt, bratty, annoying character. (Susanne). I'm sure she improves somewhere near the end of the book but I just can't. Maybe someday I'll go back and try again but probably not.
Three novels that were published earlier. The first novel is called The Peacemaker and was published in 2004.
Wynne was left at the alter by Cass Claxton and he took almost all of her money. Now she wants revenge and travels to his home after the Civil War ended. She keeps trying to justify her actions and that killing Cass wii be right thing to do.
She is beautiful owner of plantation but the war destroyed her land and emptied her home. On her way to find Cass her stage is robbed and she is now penny less. She has a temper.
Cole Claxton on the way home from the war comes onto the stage right as they were robbed and his brother Beau stepped into bring her to his home.
I like Cole he sounds tough but he keeps helping Wynne. Wynne says one thing but acts without thinking. She is brave, feisty and keeps getting into messes.
The Drifter It is so far my favorite book. I cried, laughed at times. It really had me feeling a bunch of things in this book. It starts really sad.
The setting is Missouri 1867 at the start and most of the book takes place in Kansas frontier. Beau loses his wife and baby. Just decides to leave.
Charity Burk was left a widow from the war. They were homesteading on 160 acres. She has one year left to make improvements on the land to receive the deed. She needs help but there is no help to be found.
She finds Beau being attacked and drags him into her cabin and tries to save his life. She thinks if she does maybe he would marry her and help her for a year and then go if he wants. Charity is a strong character. I like her. She is kind, hard worker and good neighbor.
The Maverick
This book takes place right after the Drifter ends 1868 in Kansas frontier. The main character is the youngest brother Cass Claxton and Susanne McCord. When I first met or heard about them I did not like them but in this book I have come to admire and care for them.
Susanne is spoiled. She is willing to do anything to get back to her Aunt and a city. She lies and tells her father that Cass had dishonored her when she spent the night in his brother's home. Cass has no choice but to marry her and leave her at her Aunt's and get the marriage cancelled.
Years later Susanne is raising nine children that were in a orphanage that her Aunt started. They are getting kicked out of their home and she blackmails & tricks Cass into helping her get the kids back to her father's home.
The children are fun, loveable and I wanted more of them.
These three stories are clean Christian romances. I cared about them. I would read more books by Lori Copeland in the future.
I was given this ebook Wild West Brides to read by Net Galley and Barbour Publishing, Inc.. In return I agreed to give a honest review of Wild West Brides
I love romance and am happy to give almost every sub-genre a try. Almost. I admit to still shying away from the zombies (*shudder*). If I choose based on pre-conceived ideas though I may miss out on a good read (zombies excluded, of course). And this time out, I would have missed out on three exceptionally fun romances.
This is a bundle of three historical, Christian romances set in the post-civil war era of the old American west. The horror of war, the aftermath that followed and the atmosphere of a country still in its infancy was an eloquent backdrop to the Claxton brother’s stories. Cole, Beau and Cass are heading home from war and their paths are going to lead them all to love…
There is deception, bravery, humour, danger and, above all else, love in these stories of overcoming physical hardships and the challenges of life that exist in any time period. I loved the characters who were all different but shared so many likable traits. Wynne and Cole’s story was the funniest of the three with their romance rife with slapstick moments (a mule is all it takes) and humour galore. Beau and Charity have a more dangerous time of it as a life-threatening situation soon has them falling in love with each other (reluctantly) and a cute little baby… Suzanne is a new, better woman when she meets up with Cass again but he is not easy to convince. Maybe one last blackmail attempt will do the trick!
I loved the writing style and three unique stories with couples that had me laughing one moment and misty the next. Old-fashioned for sure, with faith a huge part of their lives and their romance, it was a step back in time that felt just right. I’ll be looking for more of this author’s stories. Perhaps the Claxton brothers have cousins?
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Wild West Brides is a great series that follows the Claxton brothers. Cole, Beau, and Cass all went off to war, and now that they are back God has big plans for their lives. Before Cole and Beau can even get home, Beau ropes Cole into helping a stranded group of travelers. Beau’s big heart often gets Cole into trouble, and this time it’s in the form of a spitfire named Winnie. Winnie is traveling to the town of River Run to get revenge on a man who left her at the altar. You will read about their story in book 1, The Peacemaker. The second story in the book, The Drifter, is about Beau and Charity. I can’t say much with out giving it away, but it’s a wild ride. The last story, The Maverick, is about Cass and Susanne. They have a history, and neither of them are proud of their past behavior. Can God draw these spitfire girls and stubborn guys together for His glory?
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical fiction. This book is full of twist and turns. Tragedy that breaks your heart, and love that mends it back together. The suspense made it impossible to put the book down until I knew what was going to happen. The brothers have a strong bond, and life in the west isn’t easy, or always fair. They all survived the war, but will they survive meeting their match? I received a copy of this book from Shiloh Run Press, a division of Barbour Publishing and Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion. All opinions expressed are my own.
4.5 Stars Sexual Content: None Language (Profanity/Slang) Content: None Violent Content: Minimal/Moderate
Men of the Saddle was written as 3 books in the series and published in 2004. Lori Copeland has taken the series and re-written them to combine these books into an omnibus of touching inspirational stories. If you’ve read Lori’s stories before, past or present, you know her storyline is always intriguing and unique, her characters are rounded with the hard-knocks of life which make them independent yet vulnerable and it’s all sprinkled with humor.
I did read the original series and found Lori’s new re-write encouraging mixing the inspiration messages that we humans have problems and may veer off God’s path but if we give God control, He does have the best for us though our timing and His timing may be different.
I’ve always enjoyed Lori’s stories and this re-written omnibus is no exceptions. The book has over 800 pages but don’t let that stop you, the print is large (which is appreciated by this reader) and her stories are always quick page turners to see what’s in store next. Take the time to get to know these old friends in a new inspiration light. You’ll be glad you did.
These were nice clean read which had a nice plot about lost, sorrow, healing, growing and learning to love again. The first book I didn’t care to much for but the other two were very good. I did feel at times that the author gave to much information and you could have skipped a few pages without missing much at all. However the stories were very interesting, the history was accurate at the author gives you a story that brings a smile to your face and even gives you a few chuckles.
Nothing really reached out and grabbed me but I did find these stories worth reading. There were a few very touching scene that was heartbreaking. The author gives you some great characters a few great scenes but it was to long at times which information that could have been left out. I am glad I read these stories.
Three stories from Lori Copeland. The first featured an irritating main character, but I liked the second and third stories. These are traditional western style romances, with nothing new added. In fact, I felt like I had read the first story before. While these are nothing earth shattering, the stories were worth reading.
Get to know the Claxton brothers in Lori Copeland’s book Wild West Brides. This was a great trilogy. It was definitely not short of adventure, danger, love and learning. These three stories are a perfect way to relax and enjoy a story of love. Each of the stories are unique with the characters learning lessons that are relevant today. I really enjoyed reading these stories.
Good story, of three brothers headed home. After serving in the military, finally arrive at the homestead. Their momma so pleased they arrive unhurt. Starts with them meeting, finding spouses. Each story is unquestionably different. Little of everything in them. The women are determined to achieve their men. Witty and funny enjoyed reading.
I received a copy of an ebook from Barbour Publishing, Inc. and NetGalley.com for my honest review.
Lori Copeland has done it again! This was a great book and I loved that it had 3 books in one! If you love westerns and love stories then you will enjoy this book.
4 out of 5 stars. Christian approved. The antics these woman come up with and the men's responses are laugh out loud funny. The author writes to keep you guessing and keep you wanting to see what happens next. Another great read from Lori Copeland. Her other books are just as great.
I love series so this was perfect for me, 3 in 1. I enjoyed all three. Nice, clean stories. Held my interest from start to finish. I look forward to reading more from this author.
