Allison Macclesfield wants—no needs—to be a rock star, and what better decade to do it in than the ‘80s? Music is her passion. She’s got her future mapped out. Move to New York, find a job, audition to be lead singer in a band. Plans don’t include giving it all up for Peter Shepard, the sexiest guy she’s ever met. He’s nothing like the guys she’s known. Peter’s life is full of mystery, and though they know they’re a perfect match, she can have him or her rock star dreams. But not both. This is a Coded for Love Prequel and includes the first chapter of Heated Match.

I received an eARC, from NetGalley and the publisher, in exchange for an honest review. 'First Match' by Lynne Silver is book six in the "Coded for Love Book" series. This can be a standalone book but it will reference some of the previous books. Also this book is about 70 pages so it will be a quick read. This is the story of Peter Shepard and Allison Macclesfield. Peter was born and raised on the military compound and his protective parents and commander didn't want him to leave the base. But Peter was able to talk them into letting him attend a concert where he meets Allison. A 18 year old just out of high school who wants to be a signer in a band. Peter is quickly attracted to her and she is the first female he has really interacted with. We get to watch how they have to make choices they didn't think they would have to make. This was a nice short read that you can easily read in one sitting.
First Match is book 6, however it goes back in time to the very first enhanced soldier match. This is the commander Shep's story when he was just 20 years old. This is a very short novella. This one made me a little sad. Shep, being the first enhanced soldier didn't have a great life. It sounded more like he was a prisoner and then when he meets his match, Allison, he has a very short time with her. She's only 18 and wants to be a famous singer. Shep, being the honorable man that he is, didn't want to tie her down to his life so he let her go to pursue her dreams and waits for her return. I liked learning the start of the enhanced soldier program but it did make me a bit sad.

FIRST MATCH is the latest entry in Lynne Silver’s excellent Coded For Love series, and one I’ve been looking forward to reading. It’s essentially the story of a young man looking for his first real world experience outside the closed-off environment where he was raised, and the young woman ready to show him everything he’s been missing. But as a prequel to the entire series, it also fills in details about a key character in the series who has been a mystery until now.
Peter has never questioned his purpose in life or how he was raised to fulfill it, but as a healthy 20 year old male, he’s also longed for a chance to have some unsupervised fun, and maybe even meet a girl. When he and Allison first meet by chance at a local outdoor concert, her carefree personality is just as attractive to him as her physical appearance. Their immediate sexual connection convinces Peter that they are a genetic match, but how can he ask Allison to give up her whole future just to be with him?
Commander Peter “Shep” Shepard is one of my favorite secondary characters in the Coded for Love series, so it was a real treat for me to read some of his story before he was all grown up and helping to run The Program where all the previous books took place. I loved seeing the tender soul behind the tough guy, and the woman who’d helped him become the man we’d already seen. Peter’s love for Allison was genuine, going well beyond the genetic match that bound them together physically, and hers for him was just as strong and real. We see that each was ready to make every sacrifice to be with the other, and how their love never wavered even in the face of eventual separation. Part of me wishes that FIRST MATCH had been longer, but with Peter and Allison’s romance as the focus of the story, the shorter length made sense and worked well to get us to their ultimate happy ending. It’s a wonderful addition to one of my favorite series, and a joy to read.
Peter Shepard was one of the first soldiers trained for the Program of elite genetically engineered humans. Born and raised on a military compound with limited outside interaction he finally gets permission to have a day away from the compound. Allison is an aspiring musician who Peter meets at a concert.
I liked seeing how the Program started also liked seeing how Shep dealt with having a match. Shep and Allison had great chemistry together. This was a quick good read which answered many of my questions about Shep. I still haven't read all of the books in the series but plan to soon.
It's nice to get a look at Shep's life and match. This brief story gives a look into how the program progressed through the 10 years since he was a young soldier and then became commander.

I really loved this book. I was hesitant to read it because I know reading the previous books there was no mention of Peter's match. I did like that I was reading about the first super enhanced soldier. I am reading these books out of order and have read #3 & #5 so I'm not sure if there is more information in the first book (since this is technically #6 of the series) about the military program and how it came to be, but I did like that Peter was the first. I don't want to give out too much, but since it is romance I can say that Peter does eventually get his HEA.
I enjoyed reading about Shep and his story. Being the first genetically created man in The Program, Shep is the one they look too when they want to see what happens during certain scenarios. Never leaving the "base", Shep wants to go out and be "normal" and that is when he meets Allison. Sparks fly instantly but when she is brought in because of being a perfect match to Shep, he can't let her give up her dreams to be with him. Ten years later, their love for each other never has faltered.
This was a great prequel to the Coded for Love series. I loved the story and enjoyed getting the background on Shep. The story was well written and I couldn't put it down, I had to find out what happened. I definitely recommend this book!!
For those you have followed the Coded For Love series, I'm sure many have wanted to know more about the man who oversees it all; Shep. A domineering leader who commands obedience and loyalty from his men, Shep often appears cold and ruthless when making decisions about what's best for the Program and it's inhabitants.
But it all had to start somewhere, and I have frequently wondered if Shep's tough persona and his determination to see his soldiers mated, was due to his own inherent loneliness. So with this in mind, it was revealing to find out what had happened to the younger Shep, and the sacrifice he was willing to make for the woman he loved.
My only criticism; I wold have liked to know a little about Allison and Shep's relationship now.

It was so sweet that Silver went back to the beginning and showed us Shep meeting his match. Watching these two find each other was adorable and gave the rest of the books such a wonderful context. It had the heart and heat the other books had, without the excitement. The heartache and conflict came without a bang or a gunshot fired.
That said, I'm annoyed that the author left SOOO much unfinished. Dr. Wise and Jack to name a few. I don't see any other books in the series, so it's upsetting she'd just let it end like this.

. The Program: an organization of elite soldiers with superior strength, agility, and intellect. These men put their lives on the line to execute the government’s most dangerous missions.
Did you ever wonder how Shep became involved with the Program. You can now learn for yourself. Peter Shepherd was the first child born of in the genetic program. A sort of prototype. He was raised on the campus and on his first trip off on his own he meets Allison Macclesfield. He is shocked to find she is his match. Knowing this beautiful girl with dreams of her own can never be his he prepares to walk away, but the pull between them is too strong. Then the unthinkable happens and duty tears them apart. what will become of them how does Shep survive without his match? How does Allison go on with Shep? Does She achieve her dreams?
First Match is the latest title in Lynne Silver's Coded for Love series, but I hope it is not her last. Ms. Silver prove short does not necessarily mean abbreviated. She managed to fit a full story in a few pages. Would I have liked more? Of Course, but I felt that way about each of the books in the series. Shep and Allison come alive for the reader. If you have not read any of the books in this series do not worry, they can be read as stand-alone book with very little difficulty. My rating is 4 1/2 out of 5 stars.
First Match is a great addition to the Coded for Love series.
10 years ago Peter Shepard said goodbye to the woman that meant everything to him. He knew he needed to set her free, but he never truly let her go he just watched her blossom for afar.
Allison Macclesfield always wanted to be a singer but before she left for the bright lights of New York she crossed paths with a man that would capture her heart. But when secrets were reveals the truth would send them on very different paths.
Enough time has passed and the now Commander Peter Shepard is not prepared to walk away again, when Allison returns to him and where it all started.

Peter was twenty years old and was at his first rock concert. But with his enhanced hearing he wasn’t really enjoying himself. Peter had been bred to defend his country , he was an enhanced soldier. He had also begged to be let off campus so he could learn about his country.s culture first hand. Then two girls offered him some cannabis. He could not admit he was from a secret military base so he had a cover story that he was a son of farmers in rural Virginia and it would cover why he was so innocent in many things. He learned one of the girls was named Allison and he asked her to help him chill out and she agreed. Peter and Allison slept together and it was great especially since Peter was a twenty year old virgin. As the month progressed Peter snuck out to see Allison and he realized she was his match. One evening the doctors called Peter to them and he found they had kidnapped Allison. Peter was really angry whereas the doctors were excited he was the first soldier to be matched. I really enjoyed this story other than I felt it was too rushed. But other than that it was great, Although hard to believe anyone would wait ten years to sleep with someone. But I did love the story and the characters especially Allison and Peter and all the twists and turns they went through. I recommend. I received an ARC of this story for an honest review.
First Match marks my first time reading a book from Lynne Silver’s Coded for Love Series. Oh my gosh. My heart was breaking and I was crying. I simply fell in love with these two characters.
Peter Shepard is the first of his generation. He’s the product of his parents who were a perfect DNA match to breed a genetically superior soldier, with a little scientific help. At the age of 20, he finally gets to leave his military based home and go out into the real world where he meets and falls in love with Allison Macclesfield, who's 18. The two have a world wind courtship that is cut short by Peter's secret military life.
First Match allows you to see some of the events that make Peter Shepard into the person he is today. It is a story of finding love, following your dreams, and discovering what it truly means to love someone and make a sacrifices. If I didn’t already want to read this series, this book would completely have me wanting to read it.

Totally different then the previous Coded For Love stories, this one is still as highly enjoyable, sexy, edgy, and delicious with plenty of action, and sizzling romance. First Match is maybe even more unique because our hero, Peter wasn't in the Compound when he found his match, but he had left to explore the world before going into training and that is how he found his match. Allison is a beautiful woman who is chasing after her dreams. Peter is a handsome mystery to her and soon their passion rages out of control. I love the connection with these characters and stories from this series. Its something special and unique you don't find in every romance.
First Match is definitely one of those romances you will enjoy immensely. Very similar to Miss Rebecca Zanetti's books, this story will please, satisfy, and delight with the passion and action. First Match gets a FANTASTIC FOUR SHOOTING STARS! Its a definite worth-while romance and just as good as the other Coded For Love Stories with great characters and a good strong plot.
***** I was given this book by the author in exchange for an honest review***** Having already read the rest of the books in the series, I already knew what type of man Shep was as a commanding officer, so I enjoyed reading about his early years as the first genetically enhanced soldier. Having grown up almost "cloistered" in a US government military compound whose true purpose is unknown to the American public, Shep was extremely innocent and naive about things. Allison was the perfect match to his almost wide-eyed "doe-ness". The love Shep and Allison felt for each other was so pure and true as only those young in love can experience. This was a sweet love story where even years apart only strengthened the love these two people felt for one another. Another must read in the Coded for Love series!
First Match is another short story in the series. Because of that I'm not going to say much since there isn't exactly a lot to review.
This book tells the story of Shep meeting his match. It was a sweet read and a nice bonus, but like with most short stories it didn't create much of a connection. Since Shep features in all of the books you feel like you know him already, though. This meant that some of the blanks were filled in and this was a good add on.
Overall, it's not the best in the series because of its length, but if you're a fan of the series you'll like it.
As a Coded for Love devotee, I love that Ms. Silver decided to gift her readers with Shep's story! He's been one of those characters where you just know he must have gone through a lot to end up the way he is in the rest of the books. Now I know why and I have to say, there is a new soft spot for Shep in my heart. Perfect that it begins in the 80's. Anyone familiar with that decade will enjoy the nostalgia. Definitely recommend this one.
I really loved this story. It was well written with great developed characters. I fell in love with Peter and Allison. Emotional packed love story! This story had: True Love Dreams Insecurities Making sacrifices
I can not wait to read the rest of this series. I wished this book was longer than what it was.
☆☆☆☆☆ I give this book 5 out of 5 stars. Would I recommend this book? Yes! Author? Yes! Would I read more from this author? Yes!
As I was reading the Coded for Love series Shep has been a main character in all the books thus far. So reading about him was enlightening. Was a great book to read and get more background into the cold, standoffish Shep.
Being the first genetically created man in The Program, Shep is looking to get out in the real world and when he meets the lovely, energized Allison sparks fly, but being apart of The Program may not work out in their favor for love.
3.5 Stars! Short read that tells where it started in the beginning. Probably my least favorite in the series since I spend part of the time sad when reading it. Shep was part of the Program but Allison wasn’t. Duty calls and circumstances drove them apart. Ten years people, ten years apart though the connection was still there. Overall an enjoyable read. Received an ARC copy from Netgalley for a honest review.
Peter grew up on the Program campus, his future mapped out for him as a soldier, before he begins basic training he decides to sample the outside world. He meets Allison and the attraction is instant. Their futures have very different paths, will love find a way? This is a fast paced read with a great story and excellent characters. A great addition to this series.
Be prepared to go on an emotional ride as you fall in love with the characters and share their journey of following their dreams, dealing with making sacrifices, and finding love. A great love story by a great author.
First Match was a quick, but emotion packed read. It tells the story of Shep and Allison, their whirlwind romance, the challenges they face and of course their HEA. I think that there was perhaps a little room for developing the in between years, but overall this was a great story!
This is a NetGalley offering; given in exchange for a fair and honest review...
Interesting erotic entry... military unit composed of "genetic" soldiers and their adventures, while on the look-out for their "matches", in pursuit of more "perfect" soldiers...
