GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

Never in the history of ever have I waited 4 volumes of a book series to see the main character and love interest FINALLY kiss. And IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT!!!! Here I am kicking my feet and twirling my hair while I blush.

Talk about SLOWBURRRRRRRRN!!

This series has:

•knife to throat
•enemies to lovers
•chosen one
•good vs evil, but the love interest is of both worlds
•touch him and die
•fate of the world
•secret royalty - sort of, more like secret demon
•found family
•queer people in a religious based fantasy world
•hidden prophecy

I mean, there are a lot more sprinkled throughout. The MC and LI are giving grumpy/sunshine at most points, but that’s more present in earlier volumes. I just really love that this is an action graphic novel with queer love and it’s all based around a religious based magic system. It feels very ahead of its time and yet like a world that I wouldn’t mind living in. I mean, if I was an exorcist that is.

Now that we’ve got a confirmed relationship from our boys, this doesn’t feel like an extended gay baiting situation and I’m loving it even more!!!!! Now I have to wait a millennia for the next volume. Ugh! Kill me now!

A beautiful mess…

There is so much I like about this series. It’s beautifully drawn and filled with rich world building. There are some elements of this volume that worked for me, primarily the ending with Sunny and Ezra.

Unfortunately, there was a lot that don’t work for me with this volume, as it felt really disjointed. I get that in the middle act of a series there is a lot to accomplish. Characters are often separated, multiple plot lines are explored, changes happen that the characters don’t understand, there is often a deep sense of hopelessness, friends find themselves at odds with each other, etc… All of this felt like a meandering mess, however, instead of new pieces being added to make for a more complex picture.

I’m hoping that when I read the next volume I will have a new appreciation for all the ground that was covered in this volume. However, reading this entry into the series I found myself disinterested in half of the plot lines and questioning where the author is going (not in a good way, though).

While I still highly recommend this series, and look forward to reading the next part of this arc, I find myself disappointed with this particular volume.

All of that being said, I reserve the right to amend this rating after reading future volumes.

Isaac, it's far too late for thinking of bring things back to normal. The bitterness towards Erza is an ugly look, and so is the constant blaming yourself for what happened to Goliath which is making you imagine untrue scenarios.
Sunny and Erza though, that boyfriend assignment is really working for you😝! The bathroom panels in the train station, sweetest damn drawings I've seen; The casual intimacy of being held when you're at your lowest. The kiss on an alter?! Find a better way to untellingly say they're fully devoted to each other, I'll wait✋🏻. Also, quite the compromising position to be found in on that last page. . .
Flaming sword being broken is interesting! Where are the other pieces? Was it broken on purpose? What is the full power of an object so full of a mana a seventh of it could lock away Sunny's inner demon?
Samson, a leader lost in the waves, desperate to gain footing on a sinking boat.

Another great installment in an action-packed series with just the perfect amount of romance. I feel for all their characters, and I can't wait to see where the author takes us next.

I love this series. Beautiful artwork that tickles my artsy brain, and great world-building that I can't get enough of!
