Spandex & Sleuthing: Book 1 in The Dominion Point Mystery Series

Rate this book
At Dominion Point Academy, legacies are forged, secrets simmer under spandex suits—and murder is a required course.

Paige Calloway has zero powers, a stubborn streak a mile wide, and a legendary superhero family name she’s tired of tripping over. When she’s unexpectedly accepted into the elite Strategist Track, she hopes to finally carve her own path… right up until a suspicious death rocks the academy.

Armed with little more than a sharp mind, a chip on her shoulder, and a sarcastic ex-vigilante grandmother who thinks burnt toast is a food group, Paige is drawn into a mystery that could shatter everything the academy stands for.

As alliances shift and danger closes in, Paige must rely on her wits—and a grumpy, dangerously perceptive mentor who might just see too much—to outsmart a killer hiding among heroes.

At Dominion Point, power isn’t always what it seems. And survival? Well, that’s never been guaranteed.

Perfect for fans of cozy mysteries with a twist of capes, slow-burn romance, and smart, determined heroines who know how to find trouble—and a murderer—before trouble finds them.

Superheroes and secrets

So there’s good and there’s less good. I enjoyed the concept very much it kinda reminds me of the Bigtime series by Jennifer Estep or a little of the Hidden Legacy by Ilona Andrews except it’s more cozy mystery and academy trope. It took me a minute to figure out that by Dominions the authors meant super powers, maybe that’s just me but I thought dominion more along the lines of territories rather than powers. I like Paige, Serra and Celeste they make a good team and they balance each other both with skills and personalities. Loved Paige’s grandmother Evie she’s a hoot and I can’t wait to see if she makes more acerbic cameos in future books. The mystery was very interesting. Felt a bit like mission impossible but the determined trio made good on their promise to find truth, justice who knows not even them.
What I didn’t like as much the prose. It’s very heavy on angst and exposition. After a while it gets a little repetitive and redundant and yes I know those describe the same thing. Every thought does not need to be voiced or written out and every chapter doesn’t need a sum up only to have it summed up again in the beginning of the next chapter. So you see redundant and repetitive.
Overall a very good beginning and I’m excited to read more books in this series.

I have read the author's ‘Godslayer Academy’ series, and at first, I thought I was seeing echoes in the storylines. But it didn’t take very long for me to realize that the similarities I thought I was seeing were simply the academy setting and the fact that our heroine was digging for a truth others wanted to stay buried. I particularly loved how complex the results of that search for the truth were. I really like the premise behind this new series, and I can’t wait to see what kind of trouble Paige gets into next.

Spandex And Sleuthing - a review by Rosemary Kenny.

A fabulous new spellbinding novel from the talented Queen of the Supernatural Cozy, Isadora Brown, Spandex and Sleuthing sees Paige Galloway at the Hogwarts-like Dominion Point Academy, with new friends Serra and Celeste.

Secrets and half-truths are  cleverly untangled and lead to more questions, as the plot twists and turns in an exciting final reveal.

Paige Calloway comes from a well known superhero family and wants to forge her own path, so when she's accepted to Dominion Point Academy she's ready to prove herself. This is a fun read with great characters, a cozy mystery, and unexpected twists that pulled me into the story. I love the world building and the well developed characters, and after that ending I can't wait to read the next book in the series. Spandex and Sleuthing is book one and a fabulous start to The Dominion Point Mystery. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
