Long Shot: A Chase Gordon Tropical Thriller

Rate this book
A lunchtime meeting.
A senator dead.
And a sniper who vanishes into the city.

When former Marine Chase Gordon meets his old commanding officer for lunch in West Palm Beach, he expects questions—not gunfire. Seconds later, a U.S. senator is murdered in broad daylight, Chase’s mentor is critically wounded, and the killer disappears from a nearby construction site.

With no weapon and no backup, Chase charges after the shooter anyway—only to realize he’s stepped into something engineered, precise, and far-reaching. As the investigation tightens and the pressure mounts, Chase’s allies and former teammates are pulled into the fray—each one a potential target, each one forced to choose a side. The assassination wasn’t the end of the story. It was the beginning.

Now powerful enemies are closing ranks, the truth is being buried fast, and the man who pulled the trigger is still out there. Chase must hunt a professional who never misses—before the next shot finishes what the first one started.

Fast-paced, gritty, and relentless, Long Shot is a high-stakes thriller where survival depends on instinct, loyalty, and refusing to stand down.

There are 2 kinds of fans, those those that already look forward to each new release and those that will once they read this book. Chase is asked by his former CO, General Shaw, for a meeting so she can introduce someone. That someone was Senator Hawkins. They no sooner got seated when the senator is assassinated and Shaw nearly fatally wounded. Chase used line of sight to see where the shots came from and then went in pursuit, only to become a suspect himself. Now Jay Delp, Amanda, Groucho, Bones and even Carlson have their work cut out for them. There is corruption in law enforcement, there is corruption in the FBI and in the legislature. That's not even the tip of the iceberg, so how high does it go and why are they so set on killing Gordon and General Shaw that they are willing to soot up a hospital to do it? This was an exceptionally good book!

Former Lt Chase Gordon is asked to meet by his former commander Shaw and her guest a senator from Arkansas. They barely get thru introductions when a sniper takes out the senator and Shaw is severely wounded. Gordon heads to the possible perch, engages the sniper but he gets away.

Fast forward to the hospital, a number of Chase's former military company show up - a good thing, as the place is soon attacked. It's one fight after another and Chase has yet to figure out why-but before he can he's arrested by the FBI, accused of treason and being involved in the shooting.

There's no one to trust but his former team as there are Russian mafia, corrupt FBI & govt officials trying to stop Chase from saving Shaw. Some of the storyline is continued from the last installment but it can be read alone.

Long Shot - a review by Rosemary Kenny.

Ex-Lieutenant Chase Gordon is unexpectedly reunited with his former General at a meeting with a senior politician, when a hidden sniper takes the eponymous shots and mayhem ensues.
Liaising with the local police fails to ensure safety for the survivor, so Chase calls in his brothers in arms for support.

I liked the realistic reunion and the way their Marines training helps the team to take down the traitors and save the innocent.
To find out how things all work out for the best, read Douglas Pratt's Long Shot for a rip-roaring adventure!

Another hit

God how I love these books. Story was exciting, how do I say close to current events in a sly way character wise.. Sum of DC politicians, couple FBI rogues, top officials crooked as a walking stick. A general with a conscience, rare these days..

And all the Devil Dawgs...Doug,this one's out of the ball park..⚾👍

Fantastic

What a great story chase almost gets dead but thru his training and that the devil dogs very rarely vomit to a loss he and his former team save Gen Shaw and save the day but a lot of heads roll once again good fast story dial from Bobbie and George in freezing st Pete Florida ..

Absolutely Non-Stop!

Good thing I had the day off. The action starts around page 5 and is unrelenting clear to the end. If you like Chase Gordon’s previous adventures, you will not be disappointed.

Action Packed

A little too much non stop action. I liked the overall concept but this one seemed too extreme for me. I like the series and will continue but hope it gets back to not so grandiose plots.

Chase Gordon

I love this guy, its written like you're one of team. The characters are so familiar to you its as if you served together. A camaraderie only a veteran can understand.

Bring some more, quick. I need my fix.
