Dani Cross is out of options. The only job left in her hometown? Working under the man who betrayed her five years ago—Nate Carter. He stole her ideas, let her take the fall, and watched her walk away without so much as a word of regret. Now he's the boss, the power player... and the one holding her future in his hands.
But Nate has always wanted more than just her mind.
When Dani returns, desperate and defiant, Nate sees his second chance—and he makes the rules crystal she can have the job, but only if she’s willing to play his game. Theirs is a battle of wills, thick with unresolved tension and scorching chemistry. Each touch, each command, each stolen moment pulls them deeper into dangerous territory, blurring the line between hate and hunger.
What begins as a twisted power play turns into something raw and real—until secrets resurface, rumors ignite, and both of them are forced to admit what they’ve been denying for wanting each other might destroy everything... or be the only thing that saves them.
Enemies. Lovers. Co-conspirators. This time, there’s no walking away.
Short, fast paced, spicy read. I enjoyed the back and forth power between the MMC and the FMC. It wasn’t totally predictable and no details were left unanswered. I was pleased with this story and am appreciative of the ARC ebook from J.C. Bennett.
I really enjoyed the whole shift from power plays to relationship level. Nate is just 🥵
I love him. The power play start to bending to Dani and surrendering to what they knew was true. I would have loved Nate's pov through all this but danis pov was great. I love the development of their relationship.
it's pretty fast paced but I was never left questioning what I'd missed. Fast, spicy and soooo easy to read. what more could you ask for?
I really enjoyed this novel alot! It’s a fast paced one full of spice and alot of push and pull. I ended up loving the powerdynamics and both adored Nate and Dani. The constant push and pull and the hate/love was so good and i loved how their relationship grew and mended!
Overall its simply a super easy to read, spicy and fastpaced novel and highly enjoyable!
I really enjoyed this book! Fast-paced which I love, and the dynamic between the characters is tension filled shifting seamlessly between love/hate/desire. Definitely recommend for a quick spicy read!
Conflict of Interest is a short, intense, second chance romance novella style! If you're looking for a short book to get you over your reading slump or hump Conflict of Interest fits the bill.
The power dynamic between Nate and Dani is quite intriguing, so much so I flew through the 98 pages in an hour or so. It's a cut and dry story of she left because he betrayed her and then she needs help and has no where else to turn. & Nate is her only option.
It's a quick full read with sexy times and guaranteed HEA.
This was a lovely, sweet, spicy little book, and it was a lot of fun to read! I did find it a bit hard to connect to the characters, but I think that’s due to the length of the book, not the writing.
I liked seeing Nate turn into a softie for his gal, and I really appreciated the authors ability to use spice to advance the story, while still maintaining an emotional connection between the characters.
I enjoyed this story, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a short, spicy, romantic read. Thank you to the author for providing me a free ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
J.C. Bennett’s ‘Conflict of Interest’ is a spicy, enemies to lovers workplace romance.
You had the dream. You had the job. You had the man. But betrayal made its rounds…or was it hidden loyalty?
What happens when you had something real but walked away from it? Then, what happens when you find out the reason you walked away was wrong because you didn’t stay long enough for the truth to be revealed? And, what happens when you return five years later to that reality because desperation leaves you no other options? Finally, what are you willing to do to win the game this time around? You play for survival!
This is a novella with characters that will capture your attention right away. The story begins and moves quickly and its angst is palpable. There are elements of love and hate, fight or flight, secrecy and clarity, and truth and lies that make this short story stand tall. Lines aren’t just drawn, they’re crossed and erased completely and done so with sexy and steamy spice leading to the HEA that J.C. Bennett is so good at.
“God, I tried to forget what this was like. Not just the heat, the rush, but the way he worships me. Like this is his religion and I’m the only altar he’s ever known.”
This story should be read and understood for what it is, and not made into anything else.
So, this story is… - a novella. It does not spend a lot of time on plot or character development. It does manage to squeeze in second chance and enemies to lovers tropes in under 100 pages. - very spicy. Perhaps not in its intensity, but definitely in its frequency and the sheer percentage of the book devoted to hot stuff. - capable of more emotional depth than I expected. I’ll admit I was going to write it off as all spice and no substance, but I was pleasantly surprised. - not for everyone. This won’t be everyone’s cup of tea - and for some people it could be triggering. But for the right readers, it could just hit the spot.
What a great, quick read! If you need a little spicy pick me up - this was a perfect novella. Second chance between the MMC Nate and FMC Dani - years after lack of communication broke them up. Dani has no where else to turn. The power dynamic was great - appreciated that there was really no wasted pages- good spice and great storytelling that kept moving the story forward and at 98 pages I finished this in an hour. Thanks to the author for a chance to ARC read this and I'll be looking for more to read from her!
This isn’t slow burn, no, everything happens pretty quickly but not in a bad way! Everything goes on smoothly and there is not a single thing that goes missing Short story of Dani and Nate with a lot of spice, betrayal and finding trust again, with ending that does not make you loose your mind! Quick read with feelings, perfect for those who don’t wanna spend much time quessing what will happen I did enjoy this story and i enjoyd Nate, a lot! Love this authors style to write, so easy to read and follow!
Quick, spicy, and surprisingly satisfying for how short it is. The power dynamic between Dani and Nate was fun to read—especially how it shifted as they both tried to take control but slowly gave in to something more.
I liked that the spice wasn’t over the top but still hit. The office tension, the desk scene (ahem), and Nate being all protective while still messing things up a little? It worked. They’re both stubborn and smart, and I liked seeing how they handled everything from the boardroom to their past. Definitely one of those fast reads that scratches the itch without feeling rushed.
I was hooked from the first chapter. But as the chapters went on, I kind of felt that the story was rushed, dry or at times the writing was repetitive with the main characters. I wish there was more depth at the beginning for each person. I also wished there was more of the two POV to really bring out both sides of their thoughts/arguments. It was definitely a quick read which was fine but I think I would have liked it more as a bit of a slower burn for their story itself.
This spicy novella was full of power imbalance and chemistry between Nate and Dani. The tension was intense as well as their work atmosphere. I loved the plot and really felt the intensity of enemies to lovers in this. Dani was going to make sure she got what she wanted and deserved.
Thank you J.C. Bennett for this advanced reader’s copy!
Spicy little novella. The FMC definitely turns a professional quid pro quo into something neither of them can live without. Without spoiling anything I can say I enjoyed the novella but I would’ve read a full length novel with these too as well! The tension and banter were top tier!
Smart, steamy, and full of tension—Conflict of Interest is a standout enemies-to-lovers romance novella. Great banter, real emotional stakes, and a satisfying slow burn. J.C. Bennett nails the workplace romance vibe!
Was looking forward to this read but unfortunately for me I needed more plot. However if you like 20% plot and 80% spice this is the book for you. Good push and pull from main characters.
Did anyone else find this to be repetitive? There was a lot the same language used again and again in such a short novella. Thus, leading me to feel like I was going in circles instead of moving forward with the MCs.
The spice was nice! I love a good office romance, but struggled with how easily the FMC moved on from the last hurt. The MMC explained his actions but something about it still felt very unjustified.
Fast paced and spicy! I noticed two separate spicy scenes had the exact same description and dialogue, but not that big of a deal. I enjoyed reading this ARC!
