I’ve made a lucrative living driving my big rig. But really, I've been trying to forget the tragedies of my past. I’ve avoided life and love for fear of being hurt…again. At forty-eight, my life has become routine—pickups and deliveries week after week. But a chance meeting at a highway rest area changes everything. Connor is an exhausted twenty-one-year-old grad student hitchhiking to university. But God, his eyes! They’re the color of emeralds and take my breath away. They bring back haunted memories of a love I lost years ago. When he asks for a lift, I can’t refuse. Was it chance, or did fate intervene? My head and heart battle for an answer in ways I never expected. Our lives change. Our friendship becomes.... more. Then tragedy strikes and threatens everything.
Highway to Destiny is an age-gap, bi-awakening story about two men who cross paths. One realizes that you can't help who you fall in love with, and the other finds someone who fills a void in his life. A bit of angst and family drama play within this HEA love story.
I spent thirty-five years in the broadcast business, twenty-five of those years as an Art Director. During my career, I was the recipient of two Emmy Awards for design.
I'm a gay man now retired and living in the high desert of Nevada, I enjoys watching sports, especially football, baseball, and golf. I also love to cook and bake, work out at the gym, and incessantly read romance novels.
When relaxing, I can often be seen following the call of the disco ball or even raving to electronic dance music. Favorite casino games of chance include Craps and Roulette.
I was always a visual artist but decided to try my hand at writing as a different avenue of creativity.

There were just things that were off about this book. First, there was gay lingo used unironically by a man who claimed to be straight and never thought for a second that he could be anything other than straight. Then, the interaction between Connor and his family was just weird.
These weren't huge things, so someone else may get more out of this book than I did.
This is Gene Michaels’ debut novel and let me tell you… I loved it! He really did a great job. I am officially impressed.
I have never read a romance book about an over the road trucker and I admit I was a little skeptical, but it worked! This story was fresh and exciting. The world and character building was interesting without being stiff and boring. Gene set each scene up so that the reader would feel like they were actually there watching the scenery go by.
Age gap is one of my favorite tropes and I almost squealed every time Connor called Mason “daddy” or my new favorite “trucker daddy” loved it!! Mason and Connor were so good together and holy crow were they hot together. There is a scene in the sleeper cab of Mason’s rig that will live rent free in my head FOREVER!! Two words RED JOCKSTRAP.
The story was really good and kept my attention. There were a few plot twists that I was not expecting and even though I was surprised they added an interesting element to the already interesting story line.
With all new authors there is always a learning curve. I love to watch them grow, mature and tweak their writing style as they go and I can't wait for Gene’s next book which is a spinoff of this one.
Overall I really enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it.
