I am really into transmigrator stories. Haven't many of us readers imagined going into one of our beloved stories? Sometimes as ourselves, sometimes as natives of this other world, living adventures, meeting characters, fixing wrongs? As readers, we'd have valuable knowledge that could change the plot! Somehow along the way, east Asian writers started making fiction exploring exactly this premise 😍

Beware the Villainess! really stands out! It provides much needed satire to not only the transmigration subgenre, but to romance fantasy. Even when it is not openly criticising the many flaws of these types of stories, it provides certain parts of the plot fully tongue-in-cheek aware of exactly what it is doing.

It was my first experience with such a story in the subgenre, and therefore refreshing. Yet, although it starts a conversation and has an interesting FMC who forges her own (grey moral) heroic path, the story itself is not without its own shortcomings.

The author did a disservice to most side characters, and to Yuri, the og heroine and deuteragonist of BtV. She had an interesting plotline that could've been further explored and concluded. She's full of potential but at some point she just seems like a tool. She deserved better and happiness.

I would have given it four stars but that bizarre cliffhanger of an ending made me mad. In fact I put the spoiler warning on here specifically because I want to rant about that BS cliffhanger ending! So before I get to that rant I'm going to give you a little bit more review of the volume...

More character developments as well as some amazingly big plot exposures and confirmations. Overall the stories really coming along nicely and the characters are getting well developed. The characters that I don't like, namely the original four love interests , are having less and less screen time and the little screen time they're getting is actually not rage inducing. These developments make for a solid four stars since I reserve the fifth star for something truly unique and outstanding. That said... The ending made me mad!

So spoilers ahead, here's why the ending makes me so mad!

This whole time for five volumes she has had her right hand man nine at her side, and he has been very clearly smitten with her and only becoming more in love with her as time passes than just the usual crush. For crying out loud, he had his big power up inspiring event simply because he saw her almost die. His emotions are so incredibly entangled with his attachment to her that he evolved as a werewolf! Now if she is dense enough not to notice that it can't be helped, however it is shocking how dense she is about her own feelings. She definitely cares about him far more than just about any other character, she counts on him for all sorts of support whether it be emotional or just general life assistance. But she's also very much attracted to him, on multiple occasions this comes up where she's oogling him with an artistic appreciation or even getting worried that she might be crossing a line mentally because she cares and respects him enough to not want to be a pervert...

Despite this, the will they won't they has been going on for so long that it almost makes the reader cry. Then out of nowhere there's a new character that is taking over her sword training and I guess she's managed to develop enough of a relationship with this person in the period of like a month or something that the person just randomly decides to put it all out there! Just plain and simply slams it into her face. The only thing that would have been more obvious would have been if she had said you two like each other go make out!

And what do they end the chapter of the book with? They cut away to her having a get together with Yuri while she's making some potion stuff and Yuri asks why she's acting weird and Melissa has a small flashback to that particular poking prodding moment where the obvious was said to her and all she can do is blush and have some steam come out her ears. To be continued. No resolution, no clear idea of how far the resolution's out... I feel so bad for nine! I'm totally his supporter because I think he is not just the best boy but goodest boy... And I think they really balance each other out wonderfully... But God is she dense!

I don't know if my tolerance for Will they won't they is the problem here or if the problem is hell obnoxious this ended. Now I have to wait about 6 to 8 weeks for the next volume to come out so that I can find out...

I do have to say though, after reading the first volume I didn't think I'd get much farther in the series. If I hadn't already purchased the second volume due to a sale I might not have never picked it up. By the end of the second volume things were starting to get a grip on a successful formula of storytelling for me. After that it was all about momentum, each book seems to improve the series and add elements that were missing to further improve the story. My hope is that it keeps this momentum going and by the time we get a few more volumes in I'll be giving five-star reviews. My fingers are crossed and I am hopeful!

Capítulos: 87 al 107.

Melissa burlándose del "dios" por robarle los ojos por herir sus sentimientos AJSJAJJA, Yona no logra ir en contra de ella y la deja pelear, pues solo si el dueño de lo que tomo lo vence, recuperará aquello que le robo, en la historia original el monstruo toma a Yuri e Ian lo vence, salvandola, dejando en claro que Yuri "pertenece" a Ian, pero Melissa hace su propia ruta al no querer pertenecer a nadie por más amor que sienta, por lo que le pide a Nine ser sus ojos, su trabajo en equipo es tooooop, siendo protegidos por todos, finalmente lo vencen, Melissa recupera sus ojos y termina con la trama original. Yuri le hace berrinche a Melissa por ponerse en riesgo, sella al demonio y cura a todos. Todos se vuelven super famosos, pero en especial Melissa, quien recibe el título de duquesa, mientras Yuri el de gran mago, aceptandolo solo para ayudar a Mel, pues esa es su voluntad :3, Nine le dice a Melissa que la ama y ella le propone matrimonio :3, vemos a cada personaje y sus respectivos caminos, finalizando la historia con 92 capítulos. Que bonito finaaaaal, amando el mensaje, cada quien escribe su propia historia.
Empezamos los extras con la infancia de Nine, Mizen acosandolo y Jack intentando fortalecerse, Nine conoce a un niño humano (hermano de Haine) y Jack, quien lo odia por débil y parecerse tanto a Mizen, lo acusa de traición, arrancandole la lengua y colmillos (después de Jake, Jack era mi fav, pero me recordaron que al igual que los otros dos protagonistas, eran en serio malos), regresamos a la actualidad, donde Ian llena de trabajo a Melissa, por lo que entre peleas, Nine y Yuri la ayudan.
Conocemos el pasado de Yona, la mejor candidata a Santa con 14 años, su madre y hermanos murieron de manera trágica, por lo que su padre la obliga a cumplir ese rol para seguir siendo relevante, actuando con terquedad e indiferencia, marcada por los maltratos de niña, piensa en como huir de ese destino al que no dejan de forzarla, pasado un año planea usar a los magos, pero cuando es Yuri quien llega, su plan se derrumba, otro chico llamado Philip la ayuda constantemente y consigue que se acerque a Yuri, a quien le cuenta la situación y entrega el objeto mágico con el que se comunican, conoce a la actual Santa, quien se perdió en el proceso y desea que ninguna niña viva lo mismo que ella, por lo que le pide a Philip, que en realidad es un mago de la familia Elizabeth (la misma que Yuri) que la saque de ahí, llegan a un lugar peligroso y viven 2 años ahí, mantenidos por Yona y protegidos por Philip, hasta que cumplió la mayoría de edad y comenzó a trabajar para el duque, con quien ni siquiera el templo podía meterse, cuando Philip regresó al templo, cumplió la petición de la santa, que era la muerte, por lo que cumplió y fue arrestado, cuando Yona se entero intento pagar la fianza, reduciendo su condena a solo diez años, siendo esa la razón por la que esta obsesionada con el dinero (que tristeeee).

It seems the story continues to change though the core movements continue on. Even Jake seems to be on Melissa's side now, leading to the idea that pulling the gun on the prince in the weaponry may have been more than any of them thought. It was already strange enough that the prince continued to try and engage Melissa in conversation and seemed genuinely disappointed to realize just how little of an opinion she has of him at this point. With the exception of Peacock, who it seems is in for a bit of an unhappy surprise, all of the love interests seem more interested in or concerned with Melissa at this point in the story rather than Yuri. This new dream of Melissa's is interesting as well, though a different point of view than her own character is likely to remember and doesn't match the silhouette shown. Poor Nine can't seem to say the words needed to break through Melissa's thick fog and realize just why he's so concerned about the perceived risks she's taking, especially as no one knows what Melissa remembers and sees in the story that the actual characters are blind to.

Ich mag die Protagonistin und ihren ausgeprägten Beschützerinstinkt. Allerdings sind die männlichen Protagonisten allesamt ziemlich fragwürdig und ich kann ihre Einstellung wirklich verstehen. Wie kann man nur denken, dass solche Typen attraktiv sind? Doch ihre bisher unscheinbare Veränderung ist es, die mir durchaus sorgen macht.
