👤 single dad ↕️ age gap ☀️ grumpy x sunshine 🤰 surprise pregnancy 🏡 small town
Jessica Peterson writes romance with heat, humor, and heart. Heroes with hot accents are her specialty. When she’s not writing, she can be found bellying up to a bar in the south’s best restaurants with her husband Ben, reading books with her adorable daughters Gracie and Madeline, or snuggling up with her 70-pound lap dog, Martha.
A Carolina girl at heart, she fantasizes about splitting her time between Charleston and Asheville, but currently lives in Charlotte, NC.
Maren takes a nanny job and falls for the rich and older single dad, Tuck. On paper, these two wouldn’t seem like a great match. But adding Maren to their routine shines a light on just how much Tuck and his daughter, Katie, have missed a woman’s touch in the house. Things become more complicated when Maren ends up pregnant after one night together!
I had 3 favorite parts of this book: 1. Maren’s relationship with Katie. She cared for her like she was her own and it was adorable, especially their cheer routines together!
2. The small knit vibes of the community!
3. Tuck’s anxiety related to loss. I’m not a fan of third act breakups but after being abandoned by Katie’s mom, I sympathized with Tuck’s misguided feelings. Romances rarely focus on the hero being the one that needs therapy, medication, etc., but between that and advice from friends, Tuck got himself together!
Some of the writing and spice scenes were corny though which is why it gets 4 stars, but I will definitely pick up another read from this author!
TROPES: single dad/nanny; age gap; rich hero; small town; surprise pregnancy; found family; instalust-ish
TRIGGER WARNINGS: possible pregnancy loss and discussions of pre-term birth (heroine has placenta complications but results in healthy birth)
FMC is the nanny of the MMC’s daughter. It feels like she’s also nannying the manchild MMC with how he’s a fucking coward and a baby all throughout the 1st part and 3rd part of the book.
I’m so tired of overgrown men behaving like a child and acting indecisive. Grow the fuck up.
soooo disappointing! He’s a single dad with tattoos. He sounds scrumptious but he was very cringey.
First off, he calls her “Tiny.” That’s her nickname. Ick. He also calls her that during sex. Ick ick ick. Very insta lust/love.
SPOILERSSS below
The reason why he’s a single father is very weird to me. Like he wants a child really bad and his wife doesn’t. After a few years, she gives in, has a child, postpartum depression, then packs up and leaves her newborn baby. It’s weird how it was discussed and in my opinion, it seems like the male lead pressured his wife into having children even though he knew that she was not prepared for children.
Also, the parent child interaction between the leads and the daughter were cringey. All of the interactions were cringey between the leads. The 3rd act breakup conflict seemed rushed and pointless.
Let me start out by saying that I enjoyed this book, but I wished a couple of things were different. I love a good pregnancy trope, but I did not like how soon the pregnancy happened. I wish they would’ve fallen completely in love beforehand. I think that Tuck was really cute with both Maren and his daughter, but I hated that stupid third act breakup. It was unnecessary. I understand being scared over potentially losing the baby, but he really flipped his shit, let her leave, and then had the nerve to propose to her. Like dude come on. I love a good pregnancy trope, and there are books like Out on a Limb that really executed it well. They loved each other despite her being pregnant, and yes this did the same, but it was executed in a weird way. Overall, it was a really cute read. I enjoyed the dialogue for the most part, and the plot was fairly decent. I will say that I do love a good nanny/forbidden trope.
-Spice: 🌶️🌶️.5 -Age gap (FMC 22, MMC 34) -No cheating -Third act break-up -No slow burn, they get together pretty early in the book
Omg Jessica you slay me, heart and soul! Tuck and Maren were so dang amazing! This couple is seriously one of the best! The maturity in these characters was so refreshing! I love the open communication but more than that I love how they found a way to forgive! Tuck seriously is #bookboyfriendgoals! I love seeing a character who is so relatable and handles issues like a man should! There was no blame or miscommunication just all human and real!
This might not make sense because you HAVE to read to understand and I mean it READ THIS BOOK because these characters are so real and raw that every emotion was felt! I love how relatable Jessica makes her characters. Their issues are real life, and the way they handle them and each other just had me feeling like I was right there with them!
I love Maren’s open heart but that she didn’t back down! She showed Tuck what life could be and should be like. She never let him doubt himself and in turn he did the same for her! This ladies is what is women want when it comes to love because even when he messed up and did the work and made it right! Gah I’m so in love with these characters!
I Wish You Were Mine has several popular tropes going on! We have falling for the nanny, age gap, single dad, grumpy/shine, and surprise baby. This is the second book in the Harbor Village series and can be read as a standalone.
I just adore this author’s writing style and always get transported into the story just by her words. Love the way she describes the scenery, the small-town life, and each unique character.
While age gap is my least favorite trope, the author did a great job introducing Maren Lucas as the new nanny to Tuck Monroe’s four-year-old Katie. This man is a dream but doesn’t see it. He’s still scarred from his first wife’s abandonment and as a result, dedicated his entire life to his daughter and his business, and doesn’t realize how lonely he is until Maren–whom he affectionately calls “Tiny”–breezes into his life.
I loved Maren’s energy, positive attitude, and her work ethic–both with her studies and her job. She was immediately smitten by her handsome boss who should be completely off-limits, but their electric chemistry was too much to deny. A former cheerleader, she wasn’t afraid to show off her moves and was a bright light in Tuck’s otherwise very routine life. His dirty talk will have you fanning yourself as he shows Maren his very alpha moves as well.
Maren was an only child and didn’t have the best relationship with her parents. They loved her, but pressured her to put her education first, and she often found herself conflicted. She was in a master’s program for early childhood education and I loved how Tuck supported her and opened her eyes to alternative careers. He was so selfless, always thinking of others, and it’s no wonder she referred to him as her very own “Superman.”
Tuck was openly vulnerable and you will just want to give him a giant hug. But you’ll also want to smack him for giving our heroine whiplash, and cry for her as she has some tough choices to make. This author will keep you guessing until the very end as you route for this couple to find their way, not for the sake of their unborn baby, but because they were meant to be.
Loved how much Katie loved Maren and their special relationship, and how their family grew. Loved how his dad and sister were both a good influence on Tuck, and how Katie’s parents protected her and were there for her as well.
There are no questions left when you are finished reading one of Jessica’s stories as she carefully weaves it all together and includes a wonderful epilogue that will leave you smiling. Looking forward to the next book featuring Tuck’s sister, Jen, and best friend, Abel!
i was liking it very much even if it was cringe as hell but that third act breakup? it was soooo unnecessary, so annoying and just so ?????? like woah bro wtf is going on?
i’m sorry but if the man who impregnated me suddenly decides he doesn’t really want to be with me because i might bleed out and die after delivering his baby and that would make him very sad, i would’ve idk castrate him or something not marry him in literally 2 minutes!! miss girl get upppp

tropes: single dad x nanny, age gap, small town, accidental pregnancy
am i becoming an accidental pregnancy lover? POSSIBLY, because i thoroughly enjoyed this book. it was super fast, fun, and overall just a great time. i really felt for and connected with the characters especially maren. also katie is just one of the cutest fictional kids. i love the bond that maren and katie created as well as the actual couple. there is just something so special about creating your own little found family.
as soon as the book started acting like they were in Step Up 12: Hallmark Cringe (2024) it was over for me. a grown ass 34 yo man doing the “driving a cadillac”, be so for fucking real right now
i’d tell him to go to therapy, but he did and the 2 minute session cured him of his ridiculous third act breakup headassery and typical y chromosome behaviour entirely. i love science fiction❤️
i just finished listening to the audio last week & it was FABULOUS!!
here’s what i loved: 🌅 being back on bald head island was everything!!! it has all the summer vibes ⛵️ tuck is such a girl dad and katie has him wrapped around her little finger. i loved getting to see tuck be such a softy for his daughter 🌅 maren is the perfect nanny! she is so caring & loving towards katie ⛵️ the chemistry between tuck & maren😮💨😮💨😮💨 they both tried so hard to keep it professional but who are we kidding, they couldn’t help it, they’re both so hot!! 🌅 maren and tuck watching the stars together and both being able to open up about their true feelings — tuck being afraid of letting someone in due to his past & maren being unsure of her path with school and her future in teaching ⛵️ the scene when maren & tuck dance together lives rent free in my mind 🌅 the accidental pregnancy trope in this one hits so hard!!! tuck is so protective ⛵️ tuck is 10000% an acts of service guy! the things he does for maren in this book to show his love made me swoon!!! 🌅 although the attraction and chemistry was strong in this book, i still felt like the characters were able to build deeper connections and really support one in mother of the course of the book ⛵️ the third act conflict was huge for me i really enjoyed the way it was done in this book and love that tuck goes to therapy to help resolve some things he’s going through 🌅the narrators were phenomenal and did such an amazing job bringing tuck & maren to life
if you’re looking for a quick read with grumpy x sunshine vibes set on an island, this one is for you!! it seriously has the best vibes & i would definitely recommend the audio cause it was amazing!!
Tropes: accidental pregnancy 🧸 forced proximity 🏠 small town 🏝️ millionaire 💵 found family 👨👧 single dad 🩷 age gap ✨
I really liked this book and found that it was easy to read.
The ‘Nanny’ trope is such a fun subject to read in a story, if you like that then you should definitely give it a try. 🫶🏻
It’s the second book in the Harbour Village series and if you like a cosy read, I would recommend it.
The book follows Maren Lucas and Tuck Monroe. He’s a CFO of a billion-dollar company and needs a nanny for his four-year-old daughter, Katie.
Maren is currently on course to graduate from her second degree in education and needs a job because of the high student debt that she owes and couldn’t say no to the live-in nanny position.
There was an instant attraction between Tuck and Maren and after many moments full of tension, they couldn’t ignore each other any longer…
Thank you to Valentine PR, Jessica Peterson and the publisher for providing me with this copy. All opinions are my own.
3.75🌟 Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ Tropes: Small town Single dad/Nanny Accidental pregnancy Forbidden Age gap Tortured hero
This Cute small town romance. A single dad, a nanny and accidentally pregnancy. Tuck is grumpy MMC while on other hand Maren is full of sunshine ☀️ The way they interacted with each other it was definitely on comedy side and fun to read. I also loved how maren bonded with Katie. such a cutie(Tuck’s daughter) I don’t want to spoil anything but yeah there is a trauma and thing they went through on life. Also needed more before the epilogue. Other than that it’s a good and quick read if you are in this tropes
Revived this book as a ARC. Thank you ValentinePR 😊💖
I’m pretty confused on all the high ratings with this author… I thought I would give this book a go bc I enjoy single parent trope. But man this author is pretty cringe with her sx scenes and dialogue really.. and again once they got together, the story became very boring… it was the same for the first book too… now for those reasons… I’m out ✌🏻 with this author now.
I Wish You Were Mine is the second book in the Harbour Village series by Jessica Peterson and this story has gripped me by the heart. Tuck Monroe is a single dad to Katie, a feisty and sassy 4 year old girl, and he desperately needs help. That's where Maren Lucas comes in- a graduate student working on her masters in education.
This book does contain an accidental pregnancy, possible pregnancy loss and preterm birth- so if these topics are something that you are sensitive to then proceed with care or maybe skip this one.
I love the instant attraction and chemistry between these two. There were little snippets of it in I Wish I Knew Then, book one of the series- so I was excited to get to explore the tensions and story between them. And Jessica did not disappoint. Tuck is a little broody and cold especially toward Maren but Katie lights up his life and just like Maren says in the book- it might be cliche but there isn't much that is sexier than a good dad. Undeterred by his icy facade, Maren makes these little connections with Tuck bit by bit but my favorite is her quick wit and banter with Tuck made me love her for being everything that Tuck and Katie needed in their lives.
Now sure, did they had a lot working against them? Yes. There is a 12 year age gap between here- Tuck is Maren's boss and the optics aren't great and they look worse once Maren realizes that their one night of taking the edge off has resulted in a very unplanned result. Every part of their relationship is kind of done at warp speed because of it. But their biggest hurdle is getting Tuck to lower his walls and not sabotage their happiness in an ill planned attempt to protect his own heart after the damage his ex left there.
But every part of their journey captivated me- I loved how even though their relationship was fast tracked it didn't feel rushed. Tuck had some swoony moments where he was book boyfriend perfection, but he wasn't perfect- and the way he worked to become a better version of himself, one that was worthy of the life he wanted with Maren gave me all the feels. I adored that Maren despite her love for Tuck also held him accountable and didn't let him just get away with his crappy behavior no matter what the reasoning behind it.
Now I just have to wait for Jen and Abel's story because the breadcrumbs have been dropped and something big has happened and I need the answers now!
Tuck and Maren's story is very beautiful and I don't know where to start.
Tuck is not the man I expected, apart from being a wonderful father and handsome man. He's also a workaholic but also a man with his own demons and weaknesses. I was amazed by him when he was with his daughter, wow everytime my heart beat so fast for them. I love the way the author describes him and his feelings. It was really great.
Maren is really young, and I love it when there's an age gap between the characters. She has her own insecurities, but I loved that she's confident enough to talk freely with Tuck. They share something special, indescribable but beautiful.
This book sent me on a rollercoaster of emotions and I really wasn't expecting that. It was a sweet and cute book. I could feel the tension between Tuck and Maren, their chemistry was so strong. Oh, and I totally forgot to mention Tuck's four-year-old daughter Katie. She was one of the cutest little girls, by the way she talks, she acts it was impossible not to loved her.
What I appreciated most were the many interventions of Jen, Tuck's sister. She gave him good advice and, like her, I've, sometimes, wanted to talk some sense into him, although at the same time I understood him in a way.
Overall, this book was an easy read and I recommend it. With an ending like this, I'm really looking forward to the third book in this series.
Ardently in love with Tiny and her Superman! I Wish You Were Mine by Jessica Peterson was a sweet, spicy, and swoony single dad, accidental pregnancy romance that pulled at my heartstrings in all the best ways. Tuck and Maren’s journey to HEA was full of unexpected surprises that had me longing for these two to put aside their differences and heartache from the past, so they could find strength and love in each other for a bright, hopeful future. I loved Maren’s upbeat, loving demeanor as she found an immediate affection for Tuck’s daughter, Katie, and of course her instant heated attraction to Tuck. Tuck was a hunky tattooed dream. I found his love for his daughter and desires for Maren utterly irresistible. Plus, the dirty talk and sexual chemistry between Tuck and Maren was super hot. This is book 2 in Jessica’s Harbour Village series, and each new book makes me fall little bit more for all that Bald Head Island has to offer.
Overall, I LOVED this book. If you are a fan of an age-gap romance with a hot wealthy single dad, a devoted spirited nanny, Bald Head Island, finishing your degree, lusting after your boss, an adorable daughter, cheerleading, dancing to Snoop, a man who can cook, all the steamy times, pregnancy surprises, an advice-giving dad, sailboat dates, doubts, cuddly additions to the family, and a HEA that will make all your wishes come true, then you will love Tuck and Maren’s story. I always look forward to more from Jessica Peterson.

I’m sad that I didn’t love this one. 🫤 I really wanted this to be amazing. I knew quickly in the beginning that this book wasn’t going to be a 5⭐️ for me.
After my last book, I wanted to read another unplanned pregnancy romance story.. so I found this one on Kindle. I AM NOT a fan of InstaLove. 👎🏼 I’ve always loved having a deeper meaning - emotional story inside romance reads. I need that slow burn, emotional buildup angst between characters for me to root for them. InstaLove feels cheap. In this story, the single dad instantly WANTS and LOVES his nanny Maren. 💀 Huge turn off for me.
The romance from the beginning felt like two lust-struck teenagers versus adults trying to form a relationship and raise children. 👎🏼 Made me cringe.
The timeline and pacing of this book felt unrealistic. Again.. cheap comes to mind. It happens so fast that you feel like the book skips over all real feelings.
SO it goes from him hiring her to 💥 sleeping with her to 💥 pregnant and in love. No emotional building.
I feel sex is the focus here. 💀 Nothing else.
There is a third act breakup that’s real bad. If the MMC didn’t give ya the ick from the beginning… ya will catch it in the end.
Look I like the accidental pregnancy trope and hookup that turns into more trope… but this… I didn’t enjoy this timeline.
He dumped her over a hypothetical situation. Then when he goes to her dad to apologize for it he asks for her hand in marriage right after he dad said how worried they are about her because of their BREAK UP. Then when he goes and apologizes to her he proposes. Like…. How did he prove he deserved her back when all he said was “I’m sorry I can do better” then immediately “marry me today. My friend knows a guy in the courthouse” OH and don’t get me started on how he kept telling everyone he went back to therapy HE DID ONE SINGLE HALF OF A SESSION DURING THE LADIES LUNCH BREAK. Like this man is in his 30s and she a 22 year old is being emotionally manipulated by this man love bombing the fuck out of her. Oh and the cheering and dance off shit was so cringe. Honestly the book was cringe af the whole way through. I DNF’ed this the first time I started it but couldn’t remember why. Never should have picked it back up.
Plus Katie is a spoiled brat. She constantly stomped her feet and pouted til she got her way. She still pooped her pants. She also acts like a baby when most 4-5 year old can speak normal full sentences.
^^ That was my entire review for a solid week because I couldn’t formulate words that would accurate describe my love and feelings for this book. I still can’t.
Tuck Monroe. That’s it. That’s the review. He is EVERYTHING. Swoonworthy. Mouthwatering. Single dad. My GOD, he is living rent free in my mind still.
Beyond the most perfect MMC ever created, this story is PHENOMENAL. It is so beautiful, raw, and REAL.
I know there’s a love/hate relationship with the pregnancy trope, but when it is done this well, I think it could turn some haters into lovers. I’m begging you, pick up this book and fall in love.
And @jessicapauthor I AM DECEASED after that ending!!! What are you trying to do to us?!?
It's not great, but not bad. It was cliche and brought nothing new to the table. The writing wasn't the best, but it was a so-so read.
It was the pregnancy trope which murdered this book. If done right I LOVE the trope. However, she cried all of the time - it felt like every page she sobbed, had watery eyes, or was described as crying.
I actually wanted to punch her in the face.
So, it took an average read and plummeted the rating.
