The Choices We Made

Rate this book
In 1948, Hitler and the Nazis defeated the Allies, leaving the world in Chaos…

Sophie Niemoeller comes from a privileged family. Her father and uncle are prominent members of the Party and hold high-ranking jobs. She witnesses the terror the Party places on its citizens—some disappearing in the middle of the night or being pulled from their classrooms at school—for the littlest infraction. She believes something better exists. A world free from violence and terror. When she uncovers a secret about her best friend, Will, it pushes her to decide what is truly important and how far she is willing to go. Will she stand by and let the Party continue their reign of terror or will she fight against them?

Grace James seems to have the perfect life. Her stepfather is a high-ranking Party member. She has an important role as the director of the Reich Archives and seems to be a role model for women of the Reich. Little do people realize she wishes she was dead. As a teenager, she rebelled against the Party and nearly ended up dead. The secrets she holds from that time could get her killed. As the resistance group known as the FFA picks up momentum, and leaflets that she authored in her youth appear across the Reich, she faces suspicion once again. Cornered, they task her with helping to uncover the source of the leaflets. Can she put her conscience aside and help the Party uncover the leader of the FFA, ultimately protecting her family. Or will she finally break free from her chains and rise up against the Party?

“This book completely blew me away. The alternate history premise—what if the Nazis had won—was chilling, but what really gripped me were Sophie and Grace’s personal journeys. Both women are caught between survival and resistance, and the choices they face feel so raw and real. Heart-pounding, emotional, and unforgettable.”

Interest concept. I had the opportunity to read an advanced copy. While there are some slow parts, it all is connected. I would definitely recommend.
