It also helps lead one to the right path to succeed in life. The book is broken down into 10 patterns. There are: 1. Listen to a Twelve-Year Old 2. Redeem the Time 3. Clear the Decks 4. Maximize the Morning 5. Pull off at Rest Stops 6. Operate on Yourself 7. Live As If 8. Bathe in the Dead Sea 9. Practice the Power of Plodding 10. Remember There Are Two of You Each pattern is broken down into sections that includes: Inspiring quote, an inspiring story, Scripture and Study Questions for Mastering This Pattern. The book also offers a free workbook download which would be perfect for a study group. I really liked this book. It was easy to read and great inspiration. I highly recommend it! 5 plus stars. I received this book from Howard Books in exchange for my honest opinion which was given.
This book has changed my thoughts and actions on all areas of life from home, relationships to work. Grateful, our pastor even did a sermon series on it and Robert was able to come for a weekend at our church. He has alot of knowledge from God. We have to ask everyday, What is our Father's business for us today.
This book has a lot of great nuggets that will help you refocus and live a life that is productive for God. I recommend reading this as a devotional, taking it one chapter a day so that you have time to think about what it’s saying and how to apply each principle. It’s a book that I’ll definitely be returning to often.
As is true of all of Morgan’s writing it is very good on illustration. He does some good Bible study along the way, but his approach is much more topical than I prefer. Of course, when you are trying to put together a theme driven book it necessitates a topical approach.
Essentially, this is the same sort of thing that I got years ago from Gordon MacDonald’s book Ordering Your Private World. There is some time management here, but there is also an emphasis on the devotional life. Morgan never strays very far from the central idea that Christian people have a stewardship of their lives.
We tried to use the study guide for this book with our Wednesday night study, but it wasn’t very successful. I did use the video opener for each of the sessions and these were generally helpful. I have recommended this book to a number people, but were I to rank it, I would put it behind MacDonald’s book. Still, it was a very good read.
One of the most important books I've read in a while. So practical, inspiring, and interesting! I think everyone needs to read it at least once. (I will likely read it again this year and take more notes.)
I especially appreciated the gracious last chapter, which gives hope to anyone who might be worried "it's too late." It isn't... and one of the last anecdotes in this book highlights that truth.
Very good book to help jump start your life. It is filled with inspirational stories and is packed with Scripture. He is probably more organized than I will ever be. But he lays out a good case for productivity and joy.
This is the first book by Robert J. Morgan that I have ever read. I had never even heard of him. I found the book at Ollie's and it looked very interesting. It is so good and so full of wisdom and helpful information that now I have to find his other books to read. I highly recommend this book.
One of the best books I have ever read! It is uplifting, challenging, practical, thought provoking, and timeless. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking to get closer to God and do more in His service.
Great book. Robert Morgan never disappoints. He writes with such wisdom and Biblical knowledge. Wonderful guidelines for redeeming our time and growing in the ways of God.
Very good book teaching about living life in a positive way!!! Very good scriptures from the Bible and good aspects to living life when things go wrong or not our way!
Start of a new year, a book like this has helped me to realign myself with what is important. Starting on the right foot every single day is important if you want to have a good productive day.
It reads as many other books do when giving practical strategies to be effective in life. The strategies are fantastic if this is your first time reading a book if this sort.
This book has some very helpful principles that were beneficial for me. I think some of the points Morgan makes will be more useful for me at later times. Either way, it’s worth the read.
A very dear friend loaned me a copy of this book I found so much good in it. I’m planning on rereading it and rereading parts of it so I bought my own copy.
Mastering Life is a great book. To get the most from it, you must be a Christ-follower who is serious about your relationship with Him being the guiding force for every aspect of your life. After all, the foundational strategy offered here is that we must emulate Jesus by being about our Father's business. That said, several of the strategies contained in this book do not necessarily require you to be an adherent of the Christian faith. I suspect many time management experts, so-called life coaches, and others who offer advice on productivity and success would strongly agree with strategies found in Mastering Life such as redeeming the time, clearing the decks, pulling off at rest stops, and practicing the power of plodding. In fact, I've personally encountered a number of these principles presented in other books where the author's perspective is completely secular. What set this book apart for me is the linking of Scripture and the principles contained therein with each of the strategies. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to get their life better organized such that the parts that make up the whole are aligned towards a common purpose, but I especially recommend it to those who follow Jesus Christ and desire to organize their life towards the common purpose of doing the Father's business.
This book, by the author of 'Red Sea Rules' was excellent. It was very, very practical yet profound. I would consider it application centered more than theology, but once again 'right beliefs lead to right actions.' Morgan is very quotable, and he included lots of quotes of others.
True contentment comes from enjoying the smallest pleasures of the day as much as the greatest moments of the year.
You can better handle interruptions with a plan than without.
Be emotionally confident and spiritually self-sufficient. Learn to operate on yourself.
When we began looking at things as God does, which is the essence of wisdom, hope returns. Patience is renewed. Fellowship is restored. Behavior is corrected. Instead of bleeding over everyone and rehearsing our problems ad nauseum to our friends, we learn to diagnose, treat, and heal ourselves. This is the key to emotional self-sufficiency and spiritual stamina. This technique is vital to being pleasantly productive and to staying healthy of heart. Bible verses committed to memory and applied by the Holy Spirit, are the most powerful medications in the whole world. They're a balm for sore hearts, an elixir for low spirits, and immunization for bad habits, a booster shot of high spirits, a pick-me-up for dreary days, and a stimulant for positive nerves.
I really liked this book. Morgan does a great job of helping readers understand principles from the Bible oh having a pleasantly productive life. It is not the getting things done but doing what God wants us to do that is important. While the book is mostly theoretical, he has good examples of practically living out those principles. There is also a workbook that will be available online by publication date. This is a good book for us to read in this day when we get so distracted with activities. Morgan provides an anchor centering us on what is essential. See my complete review at http://bit.ly/1A4SBB0. I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher for the purpose of an independent and honest review.
The title is too ominous for such a hopeful, encouraging book! Although there are many, many self-help books out there, I appreciated the Christian take on how to manage life. Morgan does more than offer some helpful principles to organizing and prioritizing life; he takes mundane and practical tools of self-management and turns them into spiritual disciplines that help nurture your faith. Recommended!
Robert J Morgan did a great job of laying out the facts on how to live a life of purpose. Such a simple easy read everyone needs to read it whether you're Christian or not. It will help you to organize and live your life one day at a time just as it was planned far you from the beginning.
A Great book to use as a Bible study as the back of each section has a questions and answer Page.
This is a good book that deals with the practical aspects of every day life. This book will help you and encourage you to be more productive and useable as you live for Christ.
