Inner Sanctum: Remnant
The last-known remnants of life from Upper World Earth is dying.
The underground city of Egerton’s population – saved from almost certain death on the surface 400 years ago – is shrinking.
Family Control Officer Aurora Cassle and Mayor’s Assistant Den Maron must find out why. Their investigation reveals Egerton’s long-forgotten history and long-buried secrets which generations of mayors have hidden from the public.
Den and Aurora’s research leads them to one conclusion; the only way to save their city – their people – is to return to the surface.
To do so presents great risk to everyone. No one can really predict what awaits them on the surface after four centuries – wars, disease, predators. Most are willing to take the risk, but some don’t want life in Egerton to change at all and do what they can to ensure no one leaves.
The fight to return to the surface comes at a cost no one expects.

A refreshing take on dystopian. Great world building and character development. Inspires courage, integrity, and confidence. A great exodus. Eagerly anticipating more!

Inner Sanctum: Remnant immediately pulled me into its world, a dying underground city where hope feels as scarce as fresh air. Aurora and Den’s search for the truth felt so real, full of tension between staying safe and risking everything for a chance at a new life. The story made me reflect on how fear of change can hold us back, even when the cost is everything.
The characters are relatable and human, and the mystery kept me hooked without overwhelming the emotional depth. If you like stories about courage, secrets, and what it means to fight for your future, this one’s definitely worth a read. Give it a try, you might find yourself thinking about it long after you finish.

Inner Sanctum: Remnant was an absolute page-turner from start to finish. The story continually delivered, making it incredibly difficult to put down — even briefly. The characters were well-developed and engaging, and the storyline was both compelling and expertly crafted.
This is a novel I’ll definitely be adding to my reread list. Darlene Oakley is a new-to-me author, but certainly one I’ll be watching for in the future. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys immersive, well-paced fiction.

This is exactly the kind of book I looked for when I was in my teens and early twenties. Vivid characters facing a deep problem that required them to think about what they were doing as they go through the steps to make it work. From the very beginning I could see the opening environment, and as the story progressed new sights and sounds brought with them a sense of wonder, and of hope I've always looked for in the stories I've read.

A very clever imaginative story that really pulled me in. I enjoyed the story very much. The reason for 3 stars only is due to the frequent editing oversights.
