I’m TR Cameron, science fiction author. I’ve been an avid consumer of the genre since I was six, I think, when I broke the seal on my Dad’s copies of the Asimov Foundation books. It’s been all downhill since then.

I have a day job that I love most days, and writing is pretty much my only consistent hobby. When I find time that’s not already filled with my wife, my daughter, my writing, my work, or dodging the affections of our clowder of cats, you can find me playing video games (currently Dishonored 2 – I’m a little behind the times on this one), watching things (Marvel movies, American Gods, Agents of Shield, Justified, The Expanse, Gotham), playing board games, or, naturally, reading.

My favorite authors in Sci-Fi are David Weber, Jean Johnson, John Scalzi, CJ Cherryh, and the giants: Asimov, Pohl, Bear, Heinlein, etc. I read a lot in other genres too, and am a big fan of Matthew Woodring Stover, Michael Anderle, Jim Butcher, and I could go on and on and on. If I had to choose one favorite, though, it would be Stephen R. Donaldson, whose Thomas Covenant series was transformative for me.

Probably my pie-in-the-sky dream for my writing career is that someone would make a movie or television show of my books and I could be a part of the production. Sure, unlikely, but a clowder-dodger can dream, right? My more practical dream is that I can keep writing and both entertaining and connecting with my readers for years and years to come.

A climax that lasts until nearly the final moments!

Wow! Tommy, you’ve done it again! Good Lord, but I do so love it when an author keeps me guessing right up to the end.

In this case, through most of this installment I found myself wondering whether or not Cameron had chosen to yield to his dark side. Across the last two series which preceded this one, he has dabbled with “evil,” making one wonder if the “good guys” would actually win or not. Despite all of Moriarty’s boasting and the various ways in which Cameron builds him up, that vibe has largely been absent from this series until we reached this denouement.

Cameron makes up for oust time in this book, quickly painting a very clear picture of how and why the bad guys could win. Then he just continues to on that until we reach the final scenes. Typical of his style, it is only in the final moments of the final battle that we learn who survives and who doesn’t, and I’m not going to ruin that surprise with a spoiler. What I will tell you is that the final battle scene is as rife with choreography as we have come to expect from Cameron and is a joy to read.

The actual fight, I would imagine, probably lasted less than five minutes in “real time,” but like an actual battle 5 minutes seemed to last 5 hours. Each moment is described exquisitely, making it possible for even someone like me, who has absolutely zero real-world experience with fighting of any sort, to visualize and mentally watch the fight as if it were happening right in front of me.

Moreover, throughout the battle, Tommy keeps us guessing as to who will win, as moment by moment, with each attack and riposte, the advantage slides between the opponents. This is definitely my favorite of his “final battle” scenes to date.

Do the heroes honor the trope and win to save the day, does Moriarty finally become the villain who wins, or does everyone lose, leaving only a pile of wreckage? You’ll have to read to find out. But trust me, it’s worth it!

ENJOY!

Great finale

This was a great finale for the series. It was action packed from start to finish and all the characters got their deserved ending. As always I look forward to the next series by these authors as they are definitely worth reading and never fail to hold my interest and immerse me in their worlds.

Codename: Nemesis

A very good satisfying end to the series. The characters were interesting and developed well. Plenty of action and suspense. Good story lines and a solid arc. Everyone will be missed. Hopefully we will get to see more of them in the future. Recommended.

Another delightful saga rolls to an end

As is always true it is with sadness to see another wonderful characters ride into the metaphorical sunset. At least with the orcerian universe they might pop up again and visit.
