A shamed woman, a lad with a tarnished legacy and a man who loves them both
Escaping an unspeakable past, Seonaid MacKay journeys across the width of Scotland and the breadth of her heart to give her son a fresh start. Challenged by rugged terrain, slavers and kidnapping she struggles to let go of her haunted past.
Padraig MacKay refuses to leave Seonaid and Deian to the dangers of the wilds. She belongs with the clan, her people. She belongs with him, in the one place she refuses go, the Highlands of Scotland.
Writing was a tool, not a toy, until a stay in an ancient (I swear it was haunted) hotel on a frightfully stormy night straight from a clichéd novel full of howling wind and creaking floors. The night drove me to a bookcase full of dog eared romances. Sleepless turned to fascination. Hooked I read old romances, new romances, both sexy and sweet until my own tales begged to be written.
Literally 99 percent of the book is The main character denying herself (and everyone else) happiness because she thinks it's what's best for everyone. Only the last 5 pages of the book were actually happy. I didn't enjoy all the heartache she caused.
audible romance. Seonaid and her 5 year old son Dean, leave the Clan to find a new place to live and leave old secrets behind. She is followed by Pat who has always loved her. They save healers and a priest from slavers. In the end, they change their names and are married.
This book is full of turmoil and emotion. I understand the reasoning for Seonaid to run away. I think the journey was good and healing for her. Padraig was a steadfast hero and loving to her and her son. She knew Talorc and his wife, from book one, one stand by her if she returned. I wanted her to return and face her demons. I wanted there to be more than the ending that there was. On to book three. Hoping all the characters from book one and two make an appearance.
I loved the book. The trials and tribulations that Seonaid had gone through. With her clan now knowing who her sons (Deian) father was she new she could not stay with the Mackays anymore. She and her son took off not realizing Padraig followed behind to make sure they stayed safe. When they came upon men bent on kidnapping 2 woman and a friar they were bent on rescuing them. They realized this was part of the same band that have been stealing the lasses from the Highlands and selling them into slavery. So much happens but it's Seonaid that needs to make a decision on keeping Deian and Padraig as a family. A wonderful read with a beautiful ending. On to the 3rd book about Alyssa and Angus!!!
A great story of a woman with a painful past that haunts her every thought and threatens to destroy any chance of happiness for her future. She believes herself unworthy of love until a man, unfailingly patient and willing to risk is life for her, finally wins her trust and heart. Set in medieval Scotland, in a time when women had few choices and even fewer chances to fulfill their dreams. Loved the story of Seonaid and Padraig. What a man!
