This book is a little strange from the beginning. Lady Penelope Catlin lives with Marquess Finley Langwaite, the son of the man who married her mother after the death of her father. After her mother's death, she continued to live with the Marquess and his son. After the Marquess died, Finley became her guardian. Now at twenty-five, Penelope has never had a suitor and is considered by many in the Ton as a spinster. Finley has always said he is protecting her from men who are not good enough for her. So at twenty-five, Penelope has decided she will remain a spinster and just live through her married friends love stories with their husbands. Why does Finley, who is not a relative at all, keep Penelope from meeting anyone? All this changes when Penelope meets quite by accident, Edmund Hawke, the Duke of Blackmore. Edmund has his own story to tell after being kidnapped seven years ago. Beware there a quite of lot of graphic sex in this store. Unfortunately for me this distracted from what was a story with lots of hidden secrets.
I enjoyed this well-written story. Duke Edmund had a dark and dangerous past and was trying to find who was responsible for that. Lady Penelope's brother watched her constantly and would not allow suitors to approach her. She decided to find some experience with a male escort but was discovered and recognised by Edmund. They began a secret relationship which was fraught with danger. At the same time, Edmund was hunting for those who had wronged him. There was danger for both of them. Will Edmund discover who was behind his capture? Will Penelope be able to escape her over-zealous brother? Will Pen and Edmund eventually be able to find hapiness? Read on and enjoy.
I liked this novel, but it did drag a bit. It could have been completed in fewer pages because some scenes and situations seemed repeated. The characters were well developed. All the side characters were entertaining, genuine, and caring. The MFC was frustrating as a heroine. In one moment she seemed strong and level headed, but then with her brother, she was naive and meek. She just never saw it or acknowledged any of the glaring signs of wrong. The hero had to be convinced of his worth in order to get to his happy ending. This was a steamy novel with a familiar storyline with some original twists to the plot. It included villains and a dark side that had to be faced to get to the HEA.
A beautiful spinster who has never known passion and a dark duke returned to England after 7 years being held against his will following being kidnapped.. Her brother is dominant and pushes away sutors until after a fated night when her friends line her up with a male escort so she can experience passion but plans go wrong as she met the dark duke instead . So there story begins and what a story it is it’s hot and it’s steamy and it was supposed to be just sneaky nights of passion . An enjoyable story and great read as are the others in this series .
Love Edmund's and Penelope's journey. He thought himself damaged beyond redemption. She had accepted the fact that she would remained a spinster. Once they crossed path, their lives would never be the same. Loved every moment of their struggle to be together!!! Hugely Recommend!!!
A story of two people dealing with loss and pain who find each other and help each other’s healing. Their situation is well depicted through this tale with the help of well developed and colorful characters and the many incidents that trouble their encounters.
Wow! Penelope truly lived with a “sick” man supposedly her brother. So glad she found the courage to take all the chances she took to find the Duke. It’s what made this book such a fascinating read.
I really enjoyed this book. The story line went right along and kept you involved. I love a good mystery along with a good love story. Keep writing and I will keep reading.
