Dreaming of returning to her elven ancestors and locating her twin brother, Ria is forced to make a decision regarding her arranged marriage to a human and hopes to form an alliance between humans and elves. Original.
Slight continuity differences with lore established in first book of the series “Shadow” but understandable that there may not have been a complete/accurate documentation of history as related in “Shadow”. However, that being said, the flavor of the world is accurately portrayed. Definitely rereadble. Wish there were more in this series.
Boring with not a single redeeming character. Yet another book that I've picked up this year that is over halfway through with no apparent plot progress and characters cut from cardboard. 😞
My only gripe is that the ending felt a bit rushed/neat, but considering it's a 2nd prequel it made sense, and I am still excited to read the rest of the series!
I always loved this book and all the author's other stories. I wish she had written more books. Her characters are approachable and yet also wonderfully foreign. The land is just obscure enough to not be ours but also familiar enough to make it believable. I love her humor and her characterization.
I love this world. This story goes way back to the founding of the city and slightly alters some of the foundation myths that the later books mention. I
I very much liked the astral and magical aspects of this book. It is centered around relationships and the tween drama of coming of age. I would very much recommend this to a young adult.
