I received a free copy of, The Raven's Court, by Helen Glynn Jones, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This is book two in the Ravens series. Emilia Raven is different from most people, she is half vampire, half human. This book has a lot going on, humans and vampires, blood and swearing. Its a heavy read,

As I scream into the void I write this review. This book started straight of the back of the last one and didnt wait around, we had new characters introduced, the world building was beautiful as per usual, the shock factor was there (this is a Helen special if you havnt read the first book yet).
The spice was spicing?!!! 🤤
My favourite part is getting to see more of the world, I feel like we are slowly getting to see this whole picture of this fascinating world where vampire rules.
This book was so swoonworthy and heartbreaking at the same time. Please note this down thank you.

Thank you One More Chapter HC and NetGalley for the earc.
I absolutely loved The Last Raven so I was eager to read The Raven's Court. I was not left disappointed. I loved going back into this world, I love the characters, the writing style, everything about this novel had me hooked.
I finished reading it within a day, I was that engrossed into the story.
Emelia developed so well in this novel, I felt she was strong and became more stern. Her character development for me was great I really felt she had grown from the first novel to the end of this novel. Without spoilers I loved how she showed towards the end that she wasn't to be messed with and I really feel like they've all under estimated her due to her being half human. I loved both Joaquin and Michael's characters, I loved how I always felt something more was underlying to both of them. I love how relatable some of the events are and even though it's set in a fantasy world I feel so connected.
I loved the developments in the storyline, things I was expecting to happen and something that made my jaw drop! Still reeling from that but I see the next book (surely there's a next one after this ending) being more gritty.
I really love Helen Glynn Jones' writing style, the descriptions are lavish and really paint and image as I'm reading, I could picture everything in great detail from the wonderful descriptions given.
I could wax lyrical about this book all day but to some it up... Absolutely loved it.

After absolutely devouring The Last Raven, I was itching to dive back into the world of vampires and humans struggling to co-exist. And Helen, you did not disappoint.
My first note is – this second book had a hell of a bump in the spice scale!! Not complaining one bit. I mean, it’s pretty hard to write a love triangle plot line without a bit of spice... But I feel Em deserves a round of applause for her experimentation phase.
We love a strong female main character. Especially one that is determined to change the world for the better. Chuck in a handsome man and a charming vampire and you’ve got yourself book filled with tension in the best kind of way.
I don’t want to give any spoilers about the first book, but after the ‘incident’ as we shall call it, with Michael’s father comes to light, Emilia unfortunately lost a few brownie points in my book. The whole ‘woe is me, I know I should have told him but I thought he would understand, I thought he knew me better’ spiel infuriated me. I THINK HE IS ENTITLED TO BE MAD AT YOU.
Anyway...
Emilia is about to take the crown but as a human born to vampires, set to rule the paranormal, she is determined to make the world a better place for humans. And as a young woman with the world on her shoulders, her journey is not an easy one.
As if the never-ending chaos and murder of the world isn’t enough, she has to decide whether to marry for love, or for politics. But Emilia has always been willing to put she wants aside for the greater good. Which is why she is by far one of my favourite FMC’s.
As she story progresses, Emilia begins to learn that the version of history that she was taught to accept, is not as accurate as she was made to believe. Uncovering truths, questioning centuries old history with a heavy emphasis on growth, The Raven’s Court helps to answer all of those questions we were left with after The Last Raven.
The overarching question being – how can a human rule over a population of vampires? Self-improvement, determination and a fantastic weaponry arc is how.
I loved this book, just as much as the first one. The increased spice factor made it that much more exciting and the regular plot twists kept me hooked. Perfect for spooky season if you want something paranormal!

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for approving me to read this book, I’m rating it 3.25 stars.
I really loved the 1st book, and sadly book 2 felt abit more stagnant for me just because although we get new revelations and some devastating moments I don’t know that the story moved along as much as I had hoped.
That being said here’s what I enjoyed, we pick up with our FMC who still has a little naivety to her but I really admire her growth from book 1 and how much fiercer she is in book 2. The FMC is quite determined to push for a united world and it brings into question a lot of things including whether she should rule and where the realm may stand if her dream goes ahead. There’s conflict and a lot of tension throughout, plus some romantic dynamics that do not play out as I expected.
The ending really leaves us desperate for a book 3 so although as mentioned I prefered book 1, I will absolutely continue the series to see what happens next because I do genuinely enjoy the plot and it’s characters.

Tried to avoid spoilers but I did include general themes touched on in the story so skip if you want to go into the book with a blank slate of knowledge.
For starters, as the second book in this fantasy series, this story was a brilliant world building expansion after the first book. It's genuinely fascinating to image the world this author has created. BUT my goodness was it packed with heartbreak. I feel absolutely shattered after finishing it. All of the death and betrayal and isolation. It's even worse knowing the last book won't be out until November but the name of the final book, and how this book ended, certainly give me an idea as to where the story is going. It was wonderful to see all of the characters growth and development; how old relationships changed and new ones begun. There were definitely some exciting twists. If I was somewhat skeptical of the story during the first book, I am fully invested now. Sidenote though: even though it's a vampire story and I probably should have seen it coming, I wasn't expecting quite so much blood. Or gore (gore definitely isn't my thing).

Helen Glynn Jones had me hooked throughout the story and I just couldn't put it down.
Since I thought this was a duology, I wasn't happy with the open ending at all. However after discovering these books will be part of a series in stead of a duology, I was relieved. I cannot wait for more. The endings of Helen Glynn Jones her books just get to me, and I need more!

I normally find the second book in a series doesn’t quite hit the same… but I was wrong. I actually think I enjoyed The Ravens Court even more than The Last Raven!
I was lucky to receive an e-ARC, and I’ll 100% be buying a physical copy and this one deserves shelf space. The pacing grabbed me from the start, and the character growth was amazing. You can really feel how much these characters have evolved since book one, and that made this story feel even more grounded and immersive.
It’s haunting, magical, and full of atmosphere it is one of those sequels that proves the series is only getting better.
Just to note: these are my personal opinions and everyone’s reading experience is different, but this one really worked for me.
⭐ 4.5 stars - darker, sharper, and even more captivating than the first.

I’d been craving a fantasy for some time, and this vampire romantasy immediately caught my attention. I hadn’t read the first book before, so I started with The Last Raven and then quickly devoured The Raven’s Court.
I loved the dystopian world Helen Glynn Jones created, where vampires have overtaken the world and enslaved humans. It felt realistic and highly believable. The world is governed by dynasties and inherited through bloodlines. The House of Raven rules over half the world, and the FMC, Emelia, is its heir—with one complication: she was born human. She strives to change the world by placing humans and vampires on equal footing while also navigating her own identity. I found this challenge compelling and engaging to follow.
However, perhaps due to her young age, Emelia often behaved immaturely—quick to judge or speak without thinking. I found her frustrating in the first book. In this one, she’s older and more experienced in the vampire world, and thus more tolerable. I believe book three will show her becoming more serious and steady.
I didn’t fully understand why so many handsome and powerful males were falling at her feet, declaring their love—especially considering that, in Helen Glynn Jones’s world, humans born into vampire families are cruelly killed at birth. Still, the tension between characters, especially the love triangle in this book, made it a real page-turner.
The main reason I’m rating this book three stars is its repetitiveness. There are dozens of conversations between Emelia and her parents that feel nearly identical, even repeating phrases from book one. I wish this central conflict had been explored in more varied and nuanced ways.
Despite its flaws, I’m intrigued and looking forward to book three. I need to know whether Emelia succeeds in her mission—and what her love life will look like.

I couldn't wait to read this book once I had my hands on it. The ending of the last one had me on edge! Readers who loved The Last Raven will absolutely not be disappointed with The Raven's Court and I can't wait for it to come out so you all can read it!
Emilia's character development in this book is fantastic. I really like her character. My heart broke for her with what happened in the last book so to see her opening her heart up in this book is wonderful.
We get to know Michael more in this second installment. We briefly met him in book one but again, how he treats my girl Emilia, at the start did not endear me to him....at first. We also meet Joaquin and I must say the dark fantasy girlie in me was absolutely thrilled when he entered the scene.
Helen has a wonderful way of writing that keeps you on your toes and because of things that happened in the first book I find myself distrustful of everyone in Emilia's life. I feel so protective! I just didn't know who to trust and I kept waiting for that betrayal to hit because the girl can't catch a break.
We see what a weight is on this young girls shoulders not just in terms of her personal life but becoming Raven. The politics, the backstabbing, the mistrust and the political war that is going on around her. She is the best of both worlds and is stuck in the middle in terms of how she improves the rights and lives of humans whilst also ensuring vampires are kept happy. It seems an impossible task and there is so much going on that Emilia is yet to understand. This book was so emotive and I felt so many different emotions throughout.
I loved seeing Emilia grow in confidence, standing up for herself and also making decisions based on what she feels is the right thing to do. We learn more about the Reapers in this book, which is really interesting.
I can't wait for the next book. The ending yet again got me. It was so sad, and I feel so much for Emilia. I can't wait to see what is next for her and how this plays out.

A World of Blood and Politics;
The Ravens Series, Book 2 plunges us back into a vampire-ruled world where Emelia Raven, the half-human, half-vampire heir, must navigate a treacherous court to claim her crown. As the tagline promises: "The heir to a throne bathed in blood... And a truth that could ignite war."
While the main character is 17, any concern I had as an older reader quickly disappeared. The book's true strength lies in its intricate world-building, the deep dive into vampire history and politics, and Emelia's compelling personal journey. Learning how the vampires took over and the complex meaning of being a "Raven" was utterly captivating.
Growth, Intrigue, and a Shocking Finish
Emelia, caught between her "Vampire-born" destiny and her "Human-hearted" drive, is a fascinating protagonist. Her struggle to rule the vampires while fiercely trying to improve the lives of humans made the political maneuvering genuinely gripping. The growth she experiences in this volume is significant and rewarding.
The romance subplot was the weakest element for me, likely due to the characters' youth, but it’s a minor note against the strong core narrative. The pacing was excellent, and the final stretch was a masterpiece of suspense. The last 20% had me completely on the edge of my seat, and the ending was a stunning twist I did not see coming.
This series is a fantastic blend of political intrigue and dark fantasy. I will absolutely be reading Book 3!

This was the absolute perfect sequel to The Last Raven, and I absolutely adored seeing just how much Emelia has grown and developed to be who she is. There are beautiful twists and turns, and Helen really goes to show that even though Emelia is not like other vampires, she is strong, and she is more than capable of showing the world exactly who she is. Helen does such a fantastic job of wrapping beautiful complexity and imagery into her writing, and I thoroughly enjoyed The Raven's Court.

This was the absolute perfect sequel to The Last Raven, and I absolutely adored seeing just how much Emelia has grown and developed to be who she is. There are beautiful twists and turns, and Helen really goes to show that even though Emelia is not like other vampires, she is strong, and she is more than capable of showing the world exactly who she is. Helen does such a fantastic job of wrapping beautiful complexity and imagery into her writing, and I thoroughly enjoyed The Raven's Court.

This was definitely a step up from the first book. The growth that Emilia went through was immense and the reader definitely sees her mature into the next ruler that she is required to be. But it is very slow. We spend a majority of the book waiting for something to happen. Again, we are left on a bigger cliffhanger than we were left on in the first book. I do not want to get too spoilerly because I received a hand slap for it last time, but I would prefer that all the action does not wait until the last 15% of the book. I do understand the ending for Emilia's further character growth, and I am curious where the series goes as whole, but I do think that there is a lot of editing that could be done that could free up word count that could be dedicated to the plot. The romantic/political romantic plot of this book really saved it for me, and I really enjoyed her and Michael's relationship. Along with throwing new suitors in there for political means I wondered how she was going to choose. This book was entertaining but Emilia's tone is more childish than an almost 18-year-old. I am hoping in the next book her story telling can get be told from a bit older tone.

This is the second book in The Ravens series. This was such a brilliant fantasy novel, it's the perfect book for cosy season. I couldn't put it down and read it in one sitting. I loved the author's writing style, they drew me in from the first page and I kept reading until the end as I wanted to know what happened. There was enough content and twists and turns that it had me interested and reading until the end. I loved the characters, they were believable and relatable, plus the pacing was just right. I'm already eager to see what the author does next. I highly recommend it.

I admit that The Last Raven wasn't exactly my perfect read as Emelia just felt quite spoiled and juvenile but in this book she definitely shows growth as a character. Admittedly she still is easily impressed by a pretty face and a muscular chest but as a sheltered teen I can understand that about her. Emilia still intends to help humans live more freely and finally embraces the knowledge that she can only start to achieve that by stepping up and becoming ruler of the Raven nation. Torn between duty and love as two males who vie for her attention Emilia finally starts to feel that she can be free but becoming Raven is not exactly what she expected !
Sometimes a second book can feel disappointing and flag somewhat but not this one. This was a much better read for me and yes it's clearly aimed perhaps at those who are younger than myself but I very much enjoyed this book. There's a cliffhanger ending that some might predict but it definitely leaves the way clear for the author to add even more peril and dare I say blood in the next book ?

I wasn’t the biggest fan of Last Raven but felt like book 2 is going to prove me wrong, and for about 10-15% it did. But soon we’re back to bratty naivety. It’s privilege topped with more privilege and 25% in I really wanted to give up. None of the high stakes felt high enough. And don’t get me started on yet another insta love. Two in fact. The story the author imagined deserved better.
However something changes at about 50% and I was relieved! The stakes felt higher, plot was plotting and Emelia contains the brat, and it felt better. A lot happens in the second half and the plot kept me entertained towards the end. I even cared a little about what happens next.
Now the issue I have is that it’s still not up there with my favourites and if we’ve had book 3 out already I probably would have read it straight away because the ending would have lured me in, but since it’s not… 3⭐️ to acknowledge the growth from book 1 but is it enough to make me return for more?

A lot of the things that I had an issue with in book 1 continued in book 2. Emelia is still the dumbest FMC ever, although she is at least TRYING to be less naive and keep her wits about her a bit more in this one. There are so many attractive men described -most of whom just fall at Emelia's feet- and I don't understand the appeal. She just comes across as such a one-dimensional character, and I want more to her (and for her) than chasing after men. She talks about needing Michael or needing Joaquin to be a strong ruler and I was sitting there yelling at the book that she should just do it herself and forget about the men. For as much as I dislike Emelia, I actually really did enjoy both Michael and Joaquin and found them entertaining and interesting and just overall good in the roles that they were written to fill. The pace dragged for a lot of the book, but it did pick up with some exciting things at the end. Thanks Netgalley for the e-ARC!

Vampire politics, a love triangle, and Emelia has a big decision to make over his possible future. You sometimes forget that Emilia is only a teenager, then other times the bratty teenager roars into focus! The world building was good but the pacing, especially in the first half, was a wee bit off.
She is a truly complex character with an empathetic soul. She wants the best for everyone and is willing to sacrifice her own chance at happiness to get that. So I enjoyed the way that as she grows into herself, she also experiments and learns what makes her tick along the way.

She's living in the safe zone with her human friend, and Michael and her are quite happy until disaster strikes and he finds out that her family killed his father, and she never told him.
This spurs Emelia's return back to the castle and throws her into the intensity leading up to her coronation. Basically she needs to go on a touring trip of her many subjects and prove that she's a human vampire up to the task of ruling both humans and vampires. It's a bit disappointing that the author chose not to show the development of the relationship that is hinted at in the last of book 1. Instead, we are just told that Emelia and Michael have spent months together and how she really likes him. We don't see them grow closer, we are simply told that they are.
Like book 1, the focus is on Emelia's navigation of the world and her plans to better the world for both humans and vampires. Emelia tries to sort stuff out and considers new characters to be her consort to help her solidify her power.
I thought Joaquin was more interesting than Michael truthfully.

I went into this second book thinking it was a duology - come to find out there will be more books. Am I disappointed? Not really, given that the characters are likeable, the story line is good and....well...the world is fun to be in for a few minutes a day. This is the second book and continues where the first left off with the FMC learning to rule a kingdom she had no interest in ruling as a human. She is the hope of change. The only person that can unite two very different people groups all while trying to navigate her love life that really just continues to get complicated. If you want a vampire versus human book, a clash between species, a ruler over vampires that is human than this fun series is for you. Can't wait for more.

The Raven’s Court is gothic fantasy at its finest, moody, atmospheric, and completely captivating. The author creates a world that feels steeped in shadow and history, with every page humming with intrigue. The setting itself is so vivid it almost becomes a character, drawing you deeper into the mystery and magic at its heart. What really stood out to me was the balance between dark, haunting atmosphere and the emotional depth of the characters. They’re flawed, complex, and achingly human, which makes every twist feel that much more impactful. The prose is beautiful without being overwrought, elegant, sharp, and perfectly suited to the story being told.

I definitely believe that the writing has improved quite a bit since the first book,the story flowed better. I did read the first one before I started goodreads so I did have to re-read that one to fully remember everything that happened
Our FMC character development throughout this book was wonderful in comparison to her character in the first one which i did not like her in, The world building was great and I really did like reading about the vampire history.Keep in mond this is a YA book, so the romance isnt as prominent.Overall this was a solid 3.75 ⭐️

Emelia is a human with vampire parents who rule the vampire cover soon Emelia will be taking over. Emelia much to her father surprise asked to be trained to sword fight with the help of her father and his friend Vadim.
The plot was lacking most of the plot was based around all these handsome men that Emelia seemed to be interested in. They loved to flirt with her it was giving me whiplash.

I requested this before I hadn’t read book 1 The Last Raven, but I already had it on my kindle, so having book 2 gave me the incentive to read it, so I read book 1 and 2 back to back! I wasn’t disappointed. Loved book 1 and devoured it really quickly. Really enjoyed the development of the mfc how she grew as a person and how she managed the challenges that were thrown at her. I was a fun little easy read. I felt book 2 took more of a serious term after leading on from the end of the last book. Love triangle, betrayal and devastating heartbreak 💔. This book broke me a little bit. Is there a book 3 coming?!

4/5 stars! I enjoyed this book and finished reading it in 24 hours. I really enjoyed that book two continued seamlessly after book one. The Ravens Court is book two in The Ravens series. To be honest I enjoyed book one more than book two but overall it was really good. I am looking forward to continuing the series and can’t wait to read book three in the series. Hauntingly beautiful. This book completely pulled me under with its gothic atmosphere, secrets, and quiet intensity. The writing is lush and immersive — every page feels soaked in mystery and emotion.
I loved how nothing was simple here: the characters are layered, the relationships tangled, and the truth is revealed so slowly and delicately that it’s impossible to stop reading. It’s dark, emotional, and deeply human.
Perfect for fans of slow-burn gothic fantasy and stories where the setting feels almost alive. I’m still thinking about it long after I finished.
