DO YOU REMEMBER WHEN?Open these pages to sample the wildly diverse narrative voices that won monthly flash fiction contests hosted by Havok Publishing throughout 2024. Here you can experience the penguin life in January, read the Book of Madness in March, visit the Cryptid Conservation and Research Facility in October, and try to prove the old lady next door is a Mafia hitman before Thanksgiving. And that's just tip of the iceberg (yes, there's even an April story about the Titanic's fateful night).
Featuring forty-three authors with unforgettable tales spanning all four seasons and five science fiction, fantasy, mystery, thriller, and humor.

A unique collection arranged to offer something seasonal to read every month of the year. Not boring like it sounds, though, because Havok publishes stories in speculative genres spanning the range of science fiction to fantasy. The strength of this anthology also lies in the diverse narrative voices in each tale. I laughed a lot, my heart was touched, there may have been a sniffle or two.
A great gift for all seasons and anyone who enjoys reading. These bite-sized stories are perfect for bedtime reading aloud, catching a little entertainment over lunch or on the bus, or sitting by the fireplace or campfire.
A Memorable Anthology Havok’s Remember When takes on a journey through the calendar, presenting stories set in specific times of the year. Some of my favorites were: Switching Lives by Ronnell Kay Gibson. What a concept! The Lady in the Lake by Abigail Falanga. Hauntingly written. Room by Rebecca Morgan, Memoria by Elizabeth Anne Myrick, Jurassic Wedding by R. L. Nguyen, Wishes by Emily Hutnyak were all wonderful. Likewise, Chasing the Darkness Away by Elizabeth Arceo, Harvest Song by Hannah Birss, Land of Honey by Kayla E. Green, and Substitute Santa by Rienne French. And my favorite of favorites, Step Right Up by Alicia Peterson. An outstanding concept meets engaging writing with deep meaning. The Remember When anthology has many strong stories here. I had to keep whittling down the list. From snow days to “last days,” from Paul Bunyan to the Abominable Snowman to vampires, from lantern riddles to books of madness to a magic 8-ball, you’ll be happy to recall this bevy of tales.
What a good anthology. The writers really embraced each month, some easier for topics than others, and really created a great collection. I enjoyed the majority of this collection while only a small few were only okay. Havok really has a great crop of writers and I can't wait to see what they come up with for next season.
If you are a fan of short stories, you will enjoy this anthology. The book includes a variety of genres, and although this means some of the stories might not suit your fancy, it also ensures there will be several stories to your liking. I especially enjoyed the familiar tales retold from a different point-of-view.
