Raven's Cliff #1

Raven's Watch

Rate this book
One final flight. One impossible rescue. One chance to stop running.

After a mission gone wrong shatters his team and nearly ends his life, retired Air Force pilot Foster Beckett returns to Raven’s Cliff, a sleepy coastal town where he hopes to lay low and start over. Alongside the last surviving members of his crew—men who’ve become more like brothers—he plans to rebuild, one quiet day at a time. No more flying. No more firefights. Just peace.

But Raven’s Cliff has other plans.

His former commander is building a search and rescue team, and Foster’s the final holdout. Then a late-night emergency throws him back into the air—and right into the orbit of Mackenzie Parker, a sharp-tongued former Coast Guard pilot who just happens to be the commander’s daughter. Their first flight together is a disaster. Their second encounter? Still undetermined—until Mackenzie stumbles into a break-in at Foster’s home.

What seems like a random attack quickly escalates into something far more sinister. Someone is targeting Foster and his team, and the answer may lie buried in the past he’s tried so hard to forget.

Now, with danger closing in and Mackenzie refusing to back down, Foster must confront everything he’s been running from. The guilt. The secrets. And the woman who’s become impossible to ignore.

To protect what matters, he’ll have to do the one thing he swore he’d never do again—fly.

Elle James has a unique talent for crafting stories filled with captivating alpha men, highlighting their courage and the dangers they encounter. Retired Air Force pilot Foster Beckett returns to the tranquil town of Raven’s Cliff after a life-altering mission. His team follows him as they seek a fresh start, a place to heal, and a way for Beckett to avoid flying. Her characters—dynamic men and resilient women—are portrayed as relatable and admirable, making "Raven's Watch" an irresistible escape into a world where alpha men will do anything for those they care about. Unfortunately, Raven’s Cliff is not the peaceful town they expected.

All I can say is WOW WHAT A RIDE!

I love that Raven's Watch, book one of the Raven's Cliff series, and the beginning of the collaboration between authors Elle James and Kriss Norris, was conceived during a writer's retreat in Hawaii. Personally, I believe there is nothing more inspirational than sunshine, ocean waves, and good friends. Hawaii has all of this and more! And the new collaboration between Elle and Ktiss Norris is off to a good start if Raven's Watch is any indication! Wow! What a wild ride - a roller coaster of emotions, action, and suspense! Oh, and a steamy hot romance sprinkled in!

The characters jump from the pages of this book into your life. These tortured souls, brothers-in-arms, each trying to make peace with their lives, are guaranteed to become your new book boyfriends! As a former Army nurse, I found Forest Beckett and his surviving team's search for peace profoundly touched my soul. I could empathize with the dichotomy of craving peace and missing the adrenaline rush of special Ops missions. My retired, disabled Special Ops husband shares that mindset! Elle and Kriss's understanding of the mind and soul of these special men sows in these well-developed characters!

I also appreciated that Mackenzie, the main female protagonist, was no damsel in distress. She was a no-nonsense, kick ass former Coast Guard helicopter pilot turned civilian SAR and an inspiration to women everywhere. Again, I thank the authors for creating such an enthralling main character! These characters made the book irresistible! I stayed up late into the night, unable to sleep until I knew they would survive. Once again, I finished this book in one sitting!

While listed as a romance, Raven's Watch began with a dramatic, action-packed adventure and continued the suspense to the end. The romance was almost the sub-story! However, the hot love scenes added spice to the story, enhancing the sense of danger. Finding their soulmate and finally filling the hole left by personal loss made for a perfect happily-ever-after ending!

I am excited to continue reading the series and may never leave Raven's Cliff!

A wonder collaboration

OMG, You Guys, This Book Blew my Mind Into a Thousand pieces! I Was On The Very Edge of my Seat, held hostage by the tension and exhilaration, breathless with anticipation! Each time I thought I might finally relax, boom — another shocking twist, another unpredictable jolt of excitement that screamed, “HOLD ON, THE ADVENTURE IS ONLY JUST BEGINNING!” Foster's ripped with deep, raw, burning scars from his last flying gig in the spec OPS — and every emotion, every trace of heaviness just crashed over me like A raging tsunami of feelings. He swore
He’d never go back into A chopper, never dare to revisit that nightmare, but NO — His former commander had other sky-shattering plans, and those plans snapped and shook everything until iT pulled us into A whirlwind of chaos and renewed purpose!
OH MY GOD, MAC — A fiery, unstoppable coast guard pilot! Her spirit burned brighter than the sun, and she landed Back In Oregon with A Guns-A-blazing determination to help her father's search and rescue business, after losing her brother — her heartache fuels her every move. The moment they met? Fireworks exploded in the Sky — An explosion of energy and electric chemistry that made my heart race with excitement and wonder. Their first encounter? Filled with raw honesty and intense emotion, especially Mac’s brave openness about Foster’s fears about flying — I couldn’t help but root for them with everything I had!

And Oh My God, the best part — they just *CLICKED*. Like two cosmic pieces that fit perfectly, surprisingly more alike than they ever imagined. They flowed and worked together like the most perfect dance, and the pure, electrifying chemistry between them made my heart pound out of my chest. Foster had Mac's back with A passion that burned deep — A testament to the power of real connection. They became more than just friends; they became soulmates, and their relationship? so raw, so genuine, it left me breathless. This book was A masterpiece on its own, and yet, it also built the groundwork for an epic series I can’t wait to devour

Oh my lord, what an absolutely amazing read!!! I seriously couldn’t put it down and had to read it twice to ensure I had soaked up every beautiful piece of this spellbinding story.

Elle James and Kris Norris you seriously knocked it out of the park with this story!!

This story grabs you from the first sentence and takes you on one heck of an unforgettable rollercoaster ride.

Foster is an absolutely delicious character. He’s a true protector and everything is women look for in a man. My heart breaks for the pain and guilt he lives with, it makes him turn away from something he loves to do, and all I wanted to do was to hug him.

I love his relationship with his brother in arms, his family. Their teasing and camaraderie is hilarious, and their support and protectiveness over each other so heartwarming.

I loved seeing him fall for Mac. She’s his equal in every way that matters.. she brings something to his world he’s never had before and it’s everything he deserves.

Mac is an independent badass who can do anything she puts her mind to. I hate that she’s living with grief and guilt over her brother’s death. Something her and Foster have in common.

I love how she accepts Foster as he is she listens and sees the real man behind the mask, just as he does for her. They are truly perfect for each other. I loved watching them traverse their path towards their well deserved HEA whilst fighting off the bad guys trying to erase them from the earth.

The bond between Foster and Mac is undeniable and solid. Their chemistry off the charts, their love so obvious, and the way the guys all tease them over it was so funny and heartwarming.

A truly wonderful read that I would t hesitate to recommend to anyone. Can’t wait for the next story!!!!!

A great start to a new series as this first book had me flipping the pages until I was done. A tragic incident after an op that went horribly wrong, Foster leaves the military and “retires” in Ravens Cliff and moves into the manor house his parents left him and his team follows him. A former commander wants Foster to join his search and rescue, Foster is holding out but his team joins one by one. An emergency has Foster joining in a rescue and meets Mac, a helicopter pilot and retired coast guard who also happens to be the commander’s daughter. Mac is as tough as they come and she fits in seamlessly with the team and doesn’t go unnoticed by Foster who can’t seem to get her out of his mind. Incident after incident has the two joining forces and becoming partners…in more ways than one…but someone is determined to get rid of all of them and when Mac and his team are in danger….Foster will do whatever it takes to rescue them, even if it means facing his demons.
A great read with suspense, action, steam, and amazing characters. I loved the no drama between Foster and Mac, how Mac could hold her own with the men and how easily these two fit together. A page turner from start to finish and I can’t wait for the next one.

WOW talk about taking off with a bang and I mean that literarily in the first chapter we have a flight with a damaged helicopter in a severe storm after betrayal from members of the team and you just know from that start it isn't going to slow down at all.

This is Air Force pilot Foster Beckett after that gruelling flight he and his remaining team have retreated to the home he inherited from his parents recently killed n a car accident Soon his team are poached to become members of a local search and rescue run by a Atticus Mackenzie a former commander they served under He wants Foster but he has sworn to never fly again as he his haunted by ghosts from that final mission. Soon he meets Mackenzie Parker ex coast guard pilot and his ex commanders daughter There are many mysteries in this town though and soon they are all drawn into them as they find that things aren't what they seem Will they all survive this small sleepy town and will Foster have to face his fears and fly if they are to survive You will have o read to see

Be prepared this is a fast paced story that grabs you from the first page and you won't want to put it down until you turn the last page Can't wait for more in this series

Foster and Mac

FMC: Mackenzie Parker
MMC: Foster Beckett
Spice: 🌶️🌶️
Pages: 386
Tropes: Military Romance, Romantic Suspense, Insta Love, Boss’ Daughter
Setting: Raven’s Cliff, Oregon

Thoughts: This book was action packed. Every time I felt like there would be a break from the action something new popped up. Foster had some major trauma from his last Spec Ops flight. He thought he’d never fly in a helicopter again but his old commander had different plans for him. Mac was a Coast Guard pilot who was talented and fierce and returned to Oregon to help her dad run his search and rescue company after the death of her brother. The first meeting between Mac and Foster was intense and while Mac could sympathize with Foster’s unwillingness to fly, she made her thought in the matter known. After that first meeting, Mac and Foster quickly became close and ended up finding they had more in common than they thought. They worked well together and had amazing chemistry. I really liked how Foster supported Mac in areas where she’d felt criticism in the past. They really became a team and viewed each other as partners. This book was great on its own but also did a good job setting up for the rest of the series. I’m excited to see where Foster’s team goes from here.

This series starts with a hit that will grab your attention from the first page to the last.
Foster Beckett has recently retired as n Air Force pilot. The last mission where he not only was seriously injured but lost his friend and left three of his teammates and brothers seriously wounded, still haunts him. No matter what his teammates tell him he miraculously saved their lives, he is not convinced.
Now living on the West Coast, he has isolated himself from everyone but his teammates. As well as avoiding getting on a helicopter and even more so, flying one. Though there is a persistent former commander determined to hire him for his search and rescue company.
Meanwhile, little did he know that meeting his former commander’s daughter, MacKenzie Parker, a former Coast Guard, his life would change forever.
Things get sticky and dangerous when it seems someone wants him and his friends dead. Who and why?
Will Foster figure out the why and who, while also protecting his friends and the woman who has stolen his heart?
This reader can’t wait for the next story in the series.

Raven’s Watch🚁

Raven’s Watch is the first book in a new series co-authored by Elle James and Kris Norris. The story starts off with action and for 3/4 of it, I felt like an adrenaline junkie getting my kicks watching the action and suspense in my head🙌 So good, I didn’t want to put it down, but alas life got in the way a few times, but as soon as I sat down, I picked right back up where I left off☺️

Foster and his team have a mission which goes pear shaped and has his team in bad shape. They all decide to get out and be civilians for a while. Atticus is putting together a team of spec ops soldiers to run a search and rescue operation. When Foster meets Mac, another pilot as well as Atticus’ daughter - his plan of a lonely life is suddenly blown to pieces. But when it appears danger is surrounding them all, they are determined to end it swiftly or die trying😳

Can’t wait to get to know more of the crew members but certainly looking forward to the next book in this series, which just so happens to be coming out in a few days. I timed that well and it was an accident too 😂

Just Doesn’t Live Up To The Hype

I was SO looking forward to delving into this series after reading many of the reviews. Military Romantic Suspense is my favorite genre and from the appealing cover, the praises from reviewers, and the AI generated highlights from reviewers comments, I was confident that this was going to be an exciting edge of your seat read. Sadly however, after the first chapter the story for the most part, fell flat.
The relationship between Foster Beckett and Mackenzie Parker lacked development and believability. The angsty moments were few and far between and execution was disjointed and not very engaging. There was some humorous bantering amongst Foster’s former military teammates but their friendship and support for one another and character also lacked development.
I have read many series before and always looked forward to the next installments, but sadly not this time. It was a struggle to finish and I was not drawn to any of the other guys enough to care about their HEA.

Wowza! Doesn't get much better than reading book 1 in a new series that knocks it out of the park. You finish the last page waiting for your heartbeat to come back down and smile knowing there will be a book 2. We start off with our intrepid crew still in the service on the tail end of a mission going wrong. Heart wrenching, emotional as Foster Beckett does his all to save his team. We are in Raven's Cliff as they strive to make a life for themselves. Meeting MacKenzie (Mac) turned this story up another notch with her intelligence, herself honesty and humor. Mac and Foster for the win! But wait there's more! As the blurb says someone is targeting their team and man what a plot I did not see coming. Cherry on top is the interconnecting of the Everglades series. Sigh, happy camper. Thank you for the advanced copy. I freely share my honest thoughts and opinions. #Raven'sWatch #Raven'sCliff #ElleJames #KrisNorris #TwistedPage #BookFunnel

Raven’s Watch, the first book in its series, sets the bar high for romantic suspense. Elle James and Kris Norris deliver a masterful blend of heart-pounding action and captivating romance that keeps readers hooked from start to finish.

The pacing is brisk, pulling you along with relentless momentum—perfect for fans who love stories that keep them on the edge of their seats. The plot is intriguing, layered with twists and turns that maintain suspense without feeling overwhelming. Each reveal is timed flawlessly, heightening the tension and deepening the mystery.

What truly sets Raven’s Watch apart are its exceptional characters. They’re not just well-developed; they’re dynamic, authentic, and compelling. Their chemistry crackles with intensity, and their personal journeys add depth to the enthralling narrative. The dialogue feels natural and sharp, enhancing the emotional resonance and adding layers to each character’s personality.

In short, Raven’s Watch is a must-read for romantic suspense enthusiasts. With its fast-paced plot, memorable characters, and engaging dialogue, it’s a riveting start to what promises to be an outstanding series. Highly recommended!

Firstly, I love this cover of this exciting first book in the Ravens Cliff series. There are brief appearances from characters in the Calusa Bay series if you have been following those books. After retiring from the Air Force, Foster Beckett and his team thought they would like a little downtime, so they moved to Ravens Cliff, where Foster's parents had a property. But being men of action, the team, all but Foster, joined a local rescue team owned by Foster's former commander. When accidents started occurring involving the men, it seemed something more was at play. The suspense and action are well-paced and continue to hold your attention. This group of men will have your heart, while the attraction between Foster and Mackenzie Parker, daughter of his former commander, will have you rooting for them to find a way to overcome anything that stands in their way.

I received a free copy of the paramilitary romantic suspense Raven’s Watch, Raven’s Cliff Book 1, by Elle James and Kris Norris, and this review was given freely.
Greed, a super drug, lots of action, and wounded soldiers looking for peace while finding danger and love are melded together in this fast-paced story.
After narrowly escaping death when a mission where their intel turns on them, retired Major Foster Beckett and three of his surviving teammates move to his peaceful hometown on the Oregon coast to complete the renovations his parents started before they were killed a month ago. Unfortunately, his hopes of peace are dashed by his persistent former Colonel Parker’s recruitment tactics, Beckett’s strong attraction to the Colonel’s daughter, the former Coast Guard pilot Mackenzie “Mac” Parker, and a deadly stalker, who is trying to kill them all.

"You're not crazy, and you're not broken...

...okay, maybe a little broken. But not beyond fixing"

Wow! I love this new series, it has an amazing cast, a great setting and a varied history for that cast, which presents great opportunities for the future.
Mac is awesome, she is brilliant, smart, kicks ass and has plenty of sass to keep Foster on his toes! They are fantastic together, supportive but accept no excuses, call bull and push when needed and offer acceptance, understanding and love.
The team may be broken and recovering, but they are fighting to regain everything they can and Raven's Cliff Search and Rescue is just the beginning, it gives them a reason to fight and has already brought women into their lives who may challenge them, but will also love them with everything they have. We get a surprise crossover with Calusa Cove too! Another bonus.

This is a great start to this series. Love the suspense and action. Foster and his buddies have retired from the military. They think their lives will be less hectic and more settled. They move to a small town where things will be quiet. Maybe. After their last mission, Foster has given up flying, but an old commander is trying to get Foster to come to work for him. The rest of the guys have gone back to work, but Foster is stubborn. Then Mac comes along. Mac has some mad skills in the helicopter and Foster is very impressed with her abilities. She sees immediately that he is having a problem with flying. The more she gets to know him; she sees that it will just take time. Then danger comes to town, and they all work together to help the town. When Mac's life is in danger, Foster has to man up or she could die. Will Foster be able to save her?

Not meant to retire

Foster Beckett and MacKenzie. Both pilots and both have ghosts. Foster waa introduced in another book with his cousin in Florida, but now we get his story with his team on the west coast. The danger is pervasive and the team is feeling it as they get attacked and so do people helping them out or that they love. The characters dor the team and in the town are colorful and a delight. I can’t wait to see what happens with many of the characters and who ends up in relationships, especially Jordan, Brodie, and Greer. There is a military k9, retired, and she was a vip to the rescue and safety. Mental health is covered and family dynamics entered the story for entertainment. A great start to a series.

love the story and can't wait for the next book. Foster and his team retired from the Air Force after a mission went FUBAR when they were betrayed and they lost teammates and one is in a coma. They retire to Raven's Cliff, where Foster is from. His parents died and left he a house and they are renovating it. Foster former commander has started a search and rescue operation that he wants Foster and his team to join. Mackenzie joins her fathers new company after the death of her brother. She meets Foster and they are attracted to each other and take things slow. Danger is lurking. Secrets are being revealed. A fantastic suspense story. I read an arc of this book and this is my review.

What an intriguing start to a new series from these fabulous authors.
Retiring from active duty Foster and what's left of his team after a gut wrenching mission gone wrong have found their way to Foster's old home.
His former commander wants him for his search and rescue but flying still gives him nightmares, meanwhile his old commander's daughter has come into his life and possibly heart.
There is something going on, mysterious visitors where finally pranks turn into danger. Someone is out to take them down and it was interesting to work out all the players and the reasons why.
Such a page turner and the final chapters you won't be able to put down!

Beckett and Mac

First book. We meet the team and follow them as they cope with the aftermath of the last mission and the betrayal costing one death and one coma. Plus Beckett lost his parents three months before so when they signed off they all went to Becketts hometown where his parents just purchased a hotel mansion kind of house. So room for all.Plus a lot of land.
A ex army buddy of his dad's wants to recruit them all for his rescue team (he retired there because his army buddy was there)
We meet interesting fun characters and can see who might end up with who, just tiny hints. Love the brother bond

Amazon readers had this at 4.6 out of 5 stars. Not really sure why. The premise is interesting, but the writing and editing leave something to be desired. I have a hard time with descriptions like “She ate at his mouth” or “He ate at her face.” Reminds me too much of cannibalism. The editing was not the best; there were a fair number of sentences that were run on and a fair number which should have been combined with the sentence before or after. The most interesting character is the dog, Nyx. Nyx was written to have a personality of her own. Frankly, the dog is the primary reason I’m reading the other three books in the series.

Explosive action, daring rescues, laugh-out-loud banter, & sizzling sexual tension & then some. Every page crackles with intensity, camaraderie, & heart, pulling you into a world you won’t want to leave. You’ll find yourself devouring each chapter & begging for more, especially with a cast of characters so captivating, you’ll be hoping each one gets their own story. Foster and Mac raise the bar with a perfect blend of passion and danger. Trust me you’ll want in with this crew from the very first page!

WOW! this book keeps you on your toes and the edge of your seat. Foster is fighting ghosts after a mission goes bad and he blames himself. When he decides to go to Raven's Cliff where he has inherited his family home and land the rest of the team go with him. They all want a fresh start. When Foster and the team meet Mac, Foster falls for her and his life takes on a purpose. She listens to him and doesn't judge him. Lots of suspense, danger and action some of the action had me right there with them gripping my seat! This is going to be a great series, and I can't wait for the next book.

A new series with a new author for me (Kris Norris). I was very curious about this story because I briefly encountered Foster in Elle’s series Everglades Overwatch and I couldn’t seem to forget him. I must say that I enjoyed reading this book full of action and romance. Foster and MacKenzie both hurt by their past but struggling to overcome their issues. A sudden encounter that will give the chance to discover how similar in character they are while facing life. A great beginning of a successful series.

What a great collaboration ! This first book in the Raven Cliff series is filled with twists, turns and suspense that will keep you reading. Foster is a former helicopter pilot whose last mission left him injured and questioning his abilities. Out of the military and still recovering he returns to the house his folks were renovating before dying in an accident. Things get interesting when someone tries to break into the house and more accidents that were not accidents almost gets his buddies killed. He meets Mackenzie also a pilot and they hit it off!

Excellent read

A gripping narrative that seamlessly blends heart-pounding action, richly developed characters, and razor-sharp dialogue, this book is a masterful page-turner. The intricate plot unfolds with precision, weaving suspense so compelling that readers will find themselves breathless and unable to put the book down. The romantic elements are beautifully crafted, adding depth and emotional resonance to the already thrilling storyline. I am eagerly anticipating the next installment in this extraordinary series, confident it will be just as captivating.

It's an easy read with a simple plot. Superficial writing. Not sure why this has to be such a long story. I liked the military action side of the story. I wish the romance side had waited oh, say, longer than 2 days! Both are hit with good ole instant attraction. I just don't believe it but then I like time for character development. "He had never met anyone who’d had such an instant and intense effect on him. As if she’d woken a part of him he hadn’t realized had been dormant." Corny writing. This isn't for me. DNF.

Four ex-military men, damaged from the things they've seen and the betrayal they endured have moved to a new town to start over. Foster Beckett and his team have moved to his home town Raven's Cliff to move into the property his parents left him when they dies in an accident. There is something going on in the town that is dark, dangerous and has Foster Beckett property in it's sights. I loved this book, great characters, original story, captivating and enthralling. You never know what's going to happen next.

This is one of the best books that I have read all year. It has all the twists and turns that you could wish for. There is danger, military men just wanting to get on with their lives, living in the peace that they need to heal. A former commander Atticus is building search and rescue teams and needs Foster to get on board using his flying skills. Mac is Atticus’s daughter and as a Coast Guard pilot, she is the first to sign on. I recommend this book to everyone looking for a good book.
