Can a feisty security agent who hates taking orders and a covert ops specialist who has something to prove, put aside their own differences and their own agendas long enough to uncover the secrets of Windswept Heights?Blackthorne, Inc. medic Glenn "Hotshot" McCade itches to get away from what he considers milk run assignments after being injured on a previous op. Does the boss think Hotshot can’t pull his weight on a real mission anymore? What are a few nightmares? Nothing he can't handle. Aches and pains? He’s had worse. When he's given an "eyes-on" only mission, and paired with a woman—a part-timer who works Security, not Covert Ops—he worries that his future with Blackthorne, Inc. is on the line. Is she there to evaluate his performance? The mission? Simple. Locate a woman, believed to be at a super-private compound for the rich and famous, and report back. Nothing more. His cover? Pretend to be a filthy-rich, arrogant adventurer and infiltrate the compound. But inside the mysterious Windswept Heights, he finds a lot more than his target. Should he stick to the rules, or follow his gut?Olivia Fairbanks is content with her two part-time jobs. She's a Physician's Assistant in an all-female practice, and works Security for Blackthorne, Inc. After growing up forced to believe her only function in life is to be the subservient wife of a rancher or farmer, she's finally recognized she’s any man’s equal. When Mr. Blackthorne summons her for a new assignment, she's surprised to find it's a Covert Ops job, albeit a simple one. Her role is to masquerade as an assistant to one of the Blackthorne Covert Ops team members, but she reminds herself that she's second-fiddle to him only for the purpose of this assignment. It's her cover, not her life.Still, old feelings of resentment and inadequacy surface. Before long, their simple mission turns into something far more complex, and with much deadlier consequences. Will she convince Hotshot McCade to accept her as his partner? And can she deal with the romantic feelings springing up between them? Watch as things heat up in this sixth book in Terry Odell’s popular Blackthorne, Inc. action adventure romance series. Hotshot, the team medic, is paired with Olivia, whom readers might remember from Danger in Deer Ridge. The action will leave you as breathless as the high-altitude Rocky Mountain setting.
Terry Odell was born in Los Angeles and after living several decades in Florida now makes her home in Colorado. An avid reader (her parents tell everyone they had to move from their first home because she finished the local library), she always wanted to "fix" stories so the characters did what she wanted, in books, television, and the movies. Once she began writing, she found this wasn't always possible, as evidenced when the mystery she intended to write rapidly became a romance.
However, her entry into the world of writing can be attributed to a "mistake" when her son mentioned the Highlander television series on a visit home. Being the "good mother" she began watching the show and soon connected with the world of fanfiction, first as a reader, then as a critique giver, and then, one brave weekend, she wrote her first short story.
Things snowballed (if one can use that analogy in central Florida!) and soon she was writing her first original novel. Much later, she mentioned something about a recent Highlander episode to her son, and he said, "Oh, I've never actually watched the show, I just thought the concept was cool." Little did he know what he'd started.
Another exciting entry in Odell’s popular Blackthorne, Inc., action and adventure series. This one is set in the Colorado Rockies – in an impenetrable fortress allegedly for private R&R. Glenn and Olivia’s mission is to infiltrate the celebrity retreat and extract the woman who’s the granddaughter-by-proxy of Blackthorne’s founder.
No pressure.
Except medic Glenn “Hotshot” McCade feels like this op is chump change for him. He hasn’t been assigned any high action missions since his injury and he’s rearing to go, despite the nightmares. But he’ll take one for the team and pose as a rich guy needing a reprieve from the pressures of life.
Olivia Fairbanks works part-time for Blackthorne in Security and part-time as a Physician’s Assistant in a medical practice. Covert Ops aren’t her normal assignment, but she’s willing to rise to the challenge, even if it means she has to swallow her pride and play second fiddle to a male.
Things aren’t what they seem at Windswept Heights. The only way to get to the bottom of it is for Hotshot and Olivia to team up, but they quickly find that trust isn’t so easily won, especially when baggage from their pasts become issues.
Odell did a skillful job of drawing me into the story and her characters. This one’s a page-turner, folks.
A great mystery novel with plenty of intrigue to keep you interested. I enjoyed the character personalities and a little romance on the side. A great series.
I was hooked from the beginning. It has been a couple of years since I read the first stories in this series, but found that I had no problem stepping back into the world of Blackthorne. Terry's writing style is excellent.
Be swept into danger!!! Terry Odell takes the reader on a new, exciting Blackthorne, Inc assignment. Blackthorne, Inc. is a security firm which uses surveillance and collecting intel as part of its services. We are traveling to a luxury resort to locate and report back only mission. Simple?? Not beneath the surface…the mission leads “Hotshot” McCade and Olivia Fairbanks into an unexpected, complex dangerous situation. There is no way to communicate with the outside once inside the walls of this resort. At night the premises is patrolled by the two fierce guard dogs, Zeus and Apollo. How will the agents get help? The characters are unique, engaging, very real and very multidimensional. There is undeniable chemistry between the agents, “Hotshot” and Olivia which adds to the tension of the situation. The story flows smoothly. The book is well plotted filled with twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat. The book is the sixth in the Blackthorne,Inc series but can be read as a stand alone. Allow time when you start reading as this compulsive page turner will want to be read in one sitting. Terry Odell gives you a fast paced, interesting, exciting, suspenseful adventure with a hint of humor and a touch of romance. Thank you to the author for the eBook. My opinion is my own.
I received an advance copy for an honest review. And I loved it. This is another story about the men and women of Blackthorne, Inc.
This story is about Hotshot (Glenn McCade) and Olivia Fairbanks. Horace Blackthorne has a problem. It’s very sensitive and personal. The man, who saved his life, needed a favor. His daughter has disappeared at an exclusive resort, Windswept Heights. He needs Blackthorne’s team to bring her home.
Hotshot and Olivia are sent to Windswept Heights under cover. The roller-coaster ride of their emotions is wild. Olivia has her doubts of being an effective team member. Hotshot, he has medical issues. He worries that the team have put him on a milk toast assignment. Then there is the growing attraction between the Hotshot and Olivia.
The character interaction was thrilling and satisfying. You learn about the people in the Blackthorne Company, and their background. It was an amazing adventure for Olivia and Hotshot. The story was kept me guessing as to what was going on in that resort.
I haven’t read any of the other Blackthorne stories. However, I think will now.
I received an advance review copy of this book for review and loved it! I have read all of the Blackthorne books and this one ranks up at the top! What do you get when you match a macho covert ops medic recovering from injuries sustained in his last mission with a fiesty I-don’t-take-orders woman with a chip on her shoulder? In true Odell fashion, you get enough action, intrigue and romance to keep you turning the page long after you should have turned out the lights. In the sixth installment in the Blackthorne series, Odell brings together polar opposites, Glenn ‘Hot Shot’ McCade and Olivia Fairbanks, two of the most unlikely-to-succeed partners. Their simple eyes-only assignment quickly morphs into something much more involved and sinister, forcing them to adjust, not only to the dangerous new circumstances of their assignment, but to ever increasing sparks between them. Can Olivia get past old insecurities and resentment? Can Hot Shot accept a woman as an equal partner? Will they make it out of Windswept Heights alive? Follow the unexpected twists and turns of this latest Blackthorne adventure, but we warned you won’t be able to put it down!
In the next installment in Ms. Odell's Blackthorne series, Glen "Hotshot" McCade takes center stage. Recovering from injuries received during his last mission, he's concerned they're putting him on light duty when they send him on a reconnaissance mission along with Olivia Fairbanks, a security operative not used to covert ops. While this one starts out a little slower than the other Blackthornes on account of the nature of the mission, by halfway through the book things start to pick up when their stake-out uncovers a lot more than the missing woman they've been sent to identify. There are things going on beneath Windswept Heights, the classy resort they've been assigned to, that make them the perfect candidates for the "Hotel California" retreat.
I received tan advance copy for an honest review. This was the first book I've read of Ms Odell's. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Terry Odell in Windswept Danger has delightful, well-drawn characters. The sizzling chemistry between her hero, Hotshot, and her heroine, Olivia, complicates a dangerous undercover operations. The setting of the ultra-exclusive resort is the perfect backdrop for the intriguing twists and turns of the mission that provide more than enough danger for the couple. Windswept Danger is an intricate and compelling romantic suspense. .
When is a Hotshot not a hotshot? Never! No matter what was going on, Glen/Glenn was always 'a person of impressive skill and daring'. Of course, that is when he isn't thinking about Olivia. In spite of this, the Op must go on! I enjoyed this book very much - from the peek into the workings of the Blackthorne group, family dynamics, and how the rich and powerful relax. On the other side, we also got a peek at the down staircase part of the 'resort'. A lot of research had to go into this story to make it so believable.
I always enjoy Terry Odell's books. In this case, I made the mistake of picking it up to read "for just a few minutes" before I had to leave for work and then was mad that I had to put it down. I actually ended up opening my nook app at work so I could sneak a "few more minutes" and ended up finishing the book.
It was a fun read with just enough twists and turns to keep it interesting without the story getting lost in the jumble.
I liked the storyline and thought it played out really well. The only problem I had was the mistake made towards the end if the book. Olivia went home to her Grandma who was ill, but she managed to be in the room at the hotel interviewing Addison. Disappointed that it wasn't caught.
Action, mystery, adventure, romance and danger. Exciting! Rehab for the rich and famous. Gorgeous staff. Secrets abound. Tight security...why? To keep paparazzi out or guests in? Riveting tale which reaches a satisfactory conclusion.
Having read the entire Blackthorne, Inc. series, I was very excited to find this one was out. It was very entertaining and fast paced. It was nice to have previous characters back for this one. I'd definitely recommend this series for anyone wanting a quick, entertaining read.
