Although a truly gifted hairstylist, Kiri Koshiba has no interest in using her talent to pursue fame and fortune, unlike the three popular boys in the "Scissors Project" at school. Determined to become the best makeover team in Japan, they give showy makeovers to handpicked girls. As much as Kiri tries to shy away from the Scissors Project spotlight, she finds herself responding to beauty's call...
Just as the Scissors Project is getting stronger than ever, forces are at work to discredit Kiri and disband the club. What's even more surprising is the person who is behind it all...
Ok, this one started to get better and is slowly redeeming the series for me. There was a bit more romantic hints in this one and the possibility of a love triangle. There were more new characters introduced, which is so not needed, as there are already too many characters who don't show up very often but that should. I didn't like the Billy character at first, but he seems to be changed towards the end, so he may end up being okay. I really despise Narumi's father. He is an evil man and I don't like reading his parts but realize he's creating the drama that is keeping the story moving. Now onto book 9. Almost to the end!
This manga creator can write such good rivals/villains! When these guys are trying to disband S.P. and/or cause problems, they have tended to be my favorite volumes because of how high the stakes are. BUT also how it brings everyone closer. I’ve been surprised how they push each other to do their best and defend one another more and more. These are really fantastic characters and I’m so pumped for these final volumes!
Awww, Naru naru is starting to see the light maybe? A lot of things happening this chapter. I’m not sure I liked Billy’s character, though I see his purpose. Also Narusy’s father is on something else. Like why are you trying to control a literal 15 year old like that? But I get it, it’s all plot and I still eat it up.
I really love the way the relationship between Kiri and the Scissors Projects has developed from the beginning. Now she really cares about them and she's ready to help them, if they need it.
Jeez, I didn't expect Narumi's father to be like that!
As I said in reviewing the earlier volumes, between 2-3 stars for me, so rounded up. Weaker 3 for this volume, though. It has its funny moments, and the art is enjoyable, but mostly I'm enjoying it now as a nostalgic reread from high school.
Right now we're in the dragging part of the series, so powering through as there's only a few volumes more.
This one is kind of all about Narumi starting to sort of maybe a little bit start to figure out how he feels about Kiri, and about Billy being a sneaky, rumor-mongering punk. And then, of course, it ends with yet another beauty battle in progress, as well as *gasp!* the classic oops-we-just-happened-to-fall-in-a-totally-unlikely-way-and-omg-now-we're-accidentally-kissing!!!!!! moment. Ha.
Beauty Pop from the start was a great read, i enjoyed immensely the action between Kiri and Narumi, how she doesn't care in the world and how he breaks out in hives whenever a girl touches him. Kiri changed his life from a young age, which he finds out later on, so he sees her as a rival and eventually as a girl he loves.
I think Kiri's hair has gotten longer. It doesn't stick out in that funny manner anymore. Well, I guess that is all that is different.
Billy certainly makes things lively, doesn't he? He adds just enough drama to keep me interested, but not so much that it becomes angsty or something. Quite nice turn of events.
Series Review: Beauty Pop is exactly like its name very cute and funny. It has a unique premise of makeovers and the plot can be unexpectedly dramatic at times. The characters are what had me hooked as I loved them all too much to get bored. I feel the ending was rushed but over all it fit the story well. I recommend this manga to those who like very light and cutie stories.
Beauty Pop, Volume 8 was such a good read with a great storyline and good humour to match. I would definitely recommend this book to those who love reading manga, as well as those who are looking for a quirky, yet dominant female lead role. The only unfortunate thing I found with this book is that they no longer make hardcopies and that you can only read them as ebooks now.
The series seems to be entering it's final home stretch, with two volumes to go. Feelings are starting to solidify and a new antagonist is introduced as the S.P participates in a battle royale style deathmatch that I wouldn't be surprise conclude at the end of the series.
Dunno, this manga started out interesting with a refreshing new heroine. But then it just got dull for me after the 2nd volume. It's not my type of manga.
This series was soooo good although I've read other mangas with a similar concept, my eyes were glued to the pages of every single volume from this series! good author!
