Set in 2036 "From Within" opens as the American economy ‘s declining, gas prices have skyrocketed, and protests continue unchecked. The government believes the answer to their problems lies in controlling business and have begun a takeover of food, oil companies, utilities, banks and the media using a new corporation, Central Authority Management to run them and the military and police units to stifle the unrest.

World Wide News Link’s popular and pragmatic newsman Marcus Braden is outspoken about the failing American economy but when CMA tries to silence him he’s invited to join the American Rights Foundation (ARF) sending the resistance group any information about CMA activities he can funnel their way.

In a secondary plot Will Richards, an outdoorsman and prepper living near Yosemite National Park, California is upset by a turn of events that reins havoc on the nearby town and the raiders pillaging his home and others set back from the highway. With his girlfriend, her parents and his mother Will flees to the mountains when the danger threatens their lives only to get caught up in a bigger scheme to stop the chaos endangering the country when he joins forces with the famous newscaster after saving him from a failed helicopter crash.

Fast-paced and action-packed the plot heats up as Marcus uncovers a diabolical plan to bomb major cities and Will and his girlfriend Lea are caught up in a theft at the local grocery store, only to face the raiders again when they threaten his home. Intensity and suspense escalate higher as the danger builds when Will, Alejandro and Lea discover a downed helicopter and Marcus strapped to pilot’s seat inside. A page -turner from beginning to end as the intrigue and mystery mount, Marcus and Will’s mission to stop the rising tide of violence moves quickly to an explosive ending with twists that will keep you captivated.

Creating the realistic and gripping atmosphere are compelling characters like handsome, smooth-talking, and stubborn Marcus Braden well-known anchor of a popular news program; amiable, resourceful and brave Will Richards; his kind, humorous and intuitive mother Beth; and the strong-willed and impulsive Lea Navarro.

In this chillingly realistic portrayal of an America under attack “From Within”, Brian Delaney has shaped a well-developed, credible story that will keep you riveted until the end.

I received a copy via a Goodreads giveaway.

One part entertaining dystopia, one part poignant mix of history and politics, Delaney has created a frighteningly realistic portrayal of an America in its final months and the potential horrors that could arise from such an event. Yet even so, his heroes and their allies are a reminder that good people will always stand against evil.

I listened to the audiobook version of this book.
To me, this is very relevant to the turmoil going on in the USA right now. It does remind me of conspiracy theories I've heard. There are a lot of interesting things that the author incorporates into this book. I think the angle of using a News Reporter as one of the main characters was a pretty unique feature.

One thing that surprised me is that the whole story takes place 15-20 years from now but the level of technology isn't as advanced as I think it should have been for that time period. For example, USB/thumb drives are quickly becoming a thing of the past but one made an appearance in this book? It would be the equivalent of using a floppy disk/cassette tape in today's time.

Interestingly, the author was also the narrator. I was actually impressed! I think there were a couple of character voice inconsistencies between character inner dialogue and outer dialogue; however, it didn't take away from the quality of the story. I thought it was an excellent performance and reeled me in just as much as the writing.

Overall, great writing and narration!

I received a review copy at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.

The year is 2037 and the country is splintering. As social and economic conditions deteriorate, two men will risk everything to stop the brutal takeover of the CMA.

Marcus is a world famous newscaster. He speaks his mind and shares his views on the failures and problems of the country. When he is subtly threatened, he must start to spin the stories for the oppressors while soaking up as much information as possible for the patriot forces at work.

Will lives in a remote area of California with his widowed mother. He's seen the sign of the times and has prepared as much as possible. When chaos descends into his small town, he and his mom join forces with a few friends and neighbors to attempt to 'hide out' and survive.

But what is really happening to the country and who could possibly stop it? Only freedom loving patriots, banding together, will be able to attempt to turn the tide....and save the country.

A good book, action-packed and full of suspense, intrigue, and a little bit of mystery. There were a few discrepancies with the editing, but it absolutely did not detract from the story. Well done!
