Somebody called Obama, a chap from Illinois wanted to make a change in the world and was hoping to get deeper into the political world, from governor of Illinois to Senator then to President. Obama was very successful, however one of the biggest things that got in his way was racism, people underestimated him and didn't think he mattered. So to get rid of this problem he got deeper into his career and started making campaigns to run for Governor, Senator and then eventually President. People thought he would never make it and that nobody would support him, but they were shocked to see the size of his supporters. Then he came president and he seemed to touch a lot of people, finally making a change in the world.
I checked this book out in pure desperation; the library didn't have anything else on Barack Obama. Before leaving the library with this puny, watered-down version of his nothing-short-of-incredible-life, I put in an order for his memoir/autobiography, Dreams from my Father. I read this book in one night, just pushing to get through it and have a basic idea of his history. This would be a great book for a middle-school student doing a report on him or something, but I'd recommend Dreams from my Father if you're looking for something with more sophisticated writing or just an incredible book. Barack Obama: The Politics of Hope simplifies each stage of his life into a few textbookly-written chapters, but does give an efficient summary.
This book actually provides substantial info. for a children's biography, which is fine since this is about all I can take for both Obama & McCain.
There is lots of info. provided here including his family roots, his years in college, first jobs, marriage & children, legislative responsibilities (including bills sponsored) and his platform.
There is a timeline of his life at the end, further reading and Internet Resources at the end.
