Deadly. That is what her time imprisoned by The Commission has made her. Just how deadly, and exactly what was done to her, Cassie doesn’t know but she is terrified of the possibilities. Though they try to hide it, Cassie knows that the people she loves most are also afraid of what she might become. But that may be the least of her problems as she comes face to face with the deserted town she was locked away in, and the destruction the Halflings have wrought upon it. Destruction she must try to stop before even more innocent people are killed and the Halflings escape the town. However, the existence of the Halflings has also caught the attention of someone else, someone powerful and angry; someone determined to destroy her and everyone that she loves.
Book 4 of 5
This is a young adult fictional story that includes some language, violence, and mild sexual situations. Recommended for ages fifteen and up.
Erica Stevens is the author of the Captive Series, Coven Series, Kindred Series, Fire & Ice Series, Ravening Series, and the Survivor Chronicles. She enjoys writing young adult, new adult, romance, horror, and science fiction. She also writes adult paranormal romance and historical romance under the pen name, Brenda K. Davies. When not out with friends and family, she is at home with her husband, son, dogs, cat, and horse.
There has to be another book, where is it? It cannot end like that I will not accept that ending. Cassie has been through so much pain in her life and she finally has a chance at happiness. Dealing with ancient vampires and now The Commission who are more evil and twisted than the monsters they hunt and destroy, she is feeling broken and beaten. Holding on to the one slim hope that her and Julian will escape and find Devon again. A strange kind of bond is formed between them as they live with the torture and experiments holding onto to each other as a lifeline to stave off the insanity and despair. Escaping brings it own set of problems, her new feelings for Julian, guilt over Devon and then having to deal with the left over experiments that have escaped and are ruled by blood-lust. All the friends are back together again for this final battle, they will be surprised by ancient visitors who will threaten their existence yet an uneasy truce is reached until the Halflings are destroyed. There were so many plot twists and turns and although I felt that more violence was warranted and this was more a PG affair, that was just my opinion. I was still invested in the characters and wanted Cassie and Devon to end up together but fate had other plans. Erica you need to write another book really quickly please.
Please, please don't do this to me anymore. I'm alredy waitnig for one of yours book. I can't survive not knowing. People need to know stuff. Especially, things like WHEN IS THE NEXT BOOK COMING OUT.
When founding out that the next book is not out yet:
Again her repetition of certain phrases was annoying. "She bit hard on her lower lip", "Wrapping her arms around herself",and a few others were used to the point I almost had to put the book down. It seemed they were in every other paragraph almost. But this one was the best out of the 4 in this series. I have read far better books by Erica Stevens though.
(I have to say I hate this book cover. It was distractingly BAD! Out guy is looking deformed in a less than vampire way. JS) Just amazing. Way into a state of hyper-book hypnosis! My dream condition... reading and forget I'm reading!!! Awesome. Love it. Love these personalities and since I didn't stop until I finished the series I'll say the entire series is embracing and full realistic twists and turns that propel you forward! I can't say enough about the flow. Seem less but tugging by end of each book. Well done! Well written! Well read!
This book became annoying. These are freaking hunters that cannot fight. Their training and strategy are truly lacking; Buffy would hang her head in shame. Cassie runs out to fight and constantly needs rescue despite her power. There are multiple phrases that have been overused; it felt like the author started to run out of material. How many times will the reader need to be reminder that Cassie/Devon will die or kill everyone if the other dies? We get the picture. Because I am one of those people that have to finish what I started, I am stuck finishing the series!
The team find Cassie in a ghost town but there is more than they expected. They learn more truths of the commission while Cassie tries to escape. The elders show up to put an end to the commission and their experiments. This book ends on a cliff hanger and I am looking forward to the next book!
im looking forward to getting to the end of the series. To be honest, it is a bit full of teenage angst for me, but I want to know how it all pans out, and I love the character of Julian...
This just deep I mean real deep! I love this story and it keeps getting better as it goes on, I am freak out that all thos people showed up and they are to know good
I'm not sure why all of the characters are so surprised by that ending... I saw it coming a mile away. And I'm sure I know what is going to happen next. I'm very excited to see how this all ends!
Oh my gosh! Emotions are running high with this book. Cassie and Julian are prisoners. They find their way free only to be hunted by not 1 group but 2. The ending broke me!
I had to but book 5 before coming to review. I absolutely have to know what happens next, it is not often that the main character dies 😕. Brilliant series 💜💕
I loved this book. Once I started it, I couldn't put it down. There were a lot of twists I didn't anticipate and I was shocked to find myself actually rooting for the "villain" - especially when Cassie turns to him for help. This book was absolutely thrilling, especially with Cassie possibly paying the ultimate price. Because of the cliffhanger, make sure you have the next book ready to read.
Oh, the torment…of all this series, the cliffhanger for this one was by far the worst. I am aching to read my ARC of the fifth and final book, but before I can do that, I have ordered myself to be a good little blogger and tell you all about this one. Inferno has much more horror-esque content than the previous books or Ms. Stevens other vampire series (which I am honestly trying not to bring up), but that can be a bad or good thing depending on how you like your vampires.
The plot:
Consistent with the rest of the series, this book was fast, intense, yet broken up with heart-melting moments of romance that make you root for the couple. I truly enjoyed this one though there is one part that I, true to my past practices, more or less skipped.
The characters:
Devon and Cassie are still the focus and I love them to bits, but I’d like to discuss the other characters this time.
Chris came over to Devon’s “side” in the second book, but I truly appreciated his shows of loyalty toward both Devon and Cassie in this one. His brotherly affections truly made me empathize with him and he has become one of my favorite characters.
Julian, who one would have thought beyond redemption in the first two books, has had the misfortune to fall for Cassie, but while he protects her with the same zeal as Devon, he also accepts that Devon is who she belongs with. I really, really liked Julian in this one and I really, really hope he’ll be alright in the next.
As if Devon and Cassie and everyone else didn’t have enough to worry about, the other Elders turn up to make things even more difficult. Their leader, Zane, and his mate, Anastasia, are the epitome of creepy (for lack of a better word), while Devon’s estranged brother, Robert, isn’t any better. Unlikely alliances with the Elders against a common foe leads to devastating consequences that culminate into—that’s right—another cliffhanger!
Quick and concise, this book is a credit to the rest of the series and I am very, very excited to start Phoenix Rising!
Inferno’s ending was absolutely amazing and I cannot wait to read the next book. This book picks up right where “Kindled” left off. The story was a little slow at times because a few of the lines were a bit repetitive but it definitely picked up at the end. In this book we get introduced to more characters as they try to contain the Halflings into the town they were in. However the elders, are not only a threat to the Halflings they are also a threat to the rest of the group; Robert in particular. Robert is determined to destroy Devon and the way he chooses to do it might destroy everyone else in the process. He wants to get rid of Cassie and during the fight when everyone else is occupied he gets his chance but is it worth the price. Everyone knows nothing will be able to stop Devon if Cassie was to get killed during the fight. Will they be able to control the beast once it is released? I can’t say it enough but the ending will completely blow you away, leaving you wanting more and I definitely want more.
This is the fourth installment of the Kindred series. By now you know about Julian's love of all things Cassie. He has decided to turn his life around. Julian and Liam have found themselves in a cross road. They both know who will prevail for the fight of love with Cassie, but it's still so sweet to see Julian the way he is now. *sigh.......*
After they escape their prison, they become aware of something just as terrifying as being stuck in that place. And that is, what happens with all the mutated creature's.
They discover a lot more than they want to about the creature's, about Cassie herself, and the ending they go up against will blow your mind. Definitely a good read. Loved every minute of it. Drama, love, exceptance of many things. Can't wait to finish it up.
All of these books rank the same star level (4 stars). I found the concept of each book awesome. Too me, it was unique and an excellent idea. There were a few points I didn’t like about each book, but that was to be expected. Overall, each book built upon the one before it, creating a world with vampires and hunters that I didn’t want to see come to an end. I can only hope that Erica Stevens’ other books are as good as these were – and maybe we even visit the same worlds with new characters. I plan on trying one of her other series in the near future to see if maybe my wish for more of this particular world is ful-filled.
Devon has cassie in his arms again. He finds that cassie and julian have a connection that he doesnt understand but he will and it saves his and julians friendship. Cassie is so full of love and cares for everyone even after thwy take some of her torchers hostage she wont let harm come to them. As danger in the form of the unnatural vampires surrounds them and the elder vampires show up to take cassie and kill the unnatural devon and cassie find piece with eachother. As the battle rages tragidy hits and all is lost.
I love the author... I will read every book she writes. That being said, I say this with love... I keep waiting for this series to make me say "ahhh finally!" It tore my heart in 90 different ways with Julian and Devon and my brain in another 900 with all the new discoveries and sudden decisions and then it all just blew up in my face. I kept loving the book and then in the next chapter just almost stopped reading it. If I wasn't such a curious reader I probably wouldn't have made it to this book. I'll of course download the next one and see if it finally comes together.
It was a very good book and it keeps pace pretty well. I did think it was drawn out a little, it took me a few extra days to get through. But I did go n buy the next book immediately because of the way she ends ALL the books, your almost forced to buy the next to find out what happens. Even though this is the case I am enjoying the story. The characters are well done and the plot is definitely thickening. Looking forward to book #5!
I loved this book it keep me on the edge of my seat. Can't wait for the next book. Clif hanger at the end! It's a great teen series. I really am happy that as an adult with a teenage daughter that Erica Stevens can write this series with all of the real emotion yet in an innocent fashion. We as readers feel the love growing but not all of the vivid details. I think this series is wonderful.
i could not stop reading this book. it had me hooked from the very beginning. so much excitement and new found friendships. the book is full of no stop action. it left me wanting to know more about cassie's well being and her relationship with devon. this was very well written and thought out. i just hope that we don't all have to wait too long for the next book to come along.
dding a review for this as I've rated it without a review.
A lot of things have happened since. 2014 Was a very hard year for myself so all the reviews are showing up on the same date. I can't explain why they are, if the ratings are justice or accurate I can also not say when I truly read these. I'm just going to say 2014 on the same day added just to keep the year right if not the month...
In this book characters are tested and they will prove how strong their bond is. This is a loyal family that will do anything to keep each other safe and protected. Their love is the key to their survival. This is a beautiful series that teaches us to look beyond everything you thought you knew and follow your heart. I highly recommend this series!!
Cassie and Devon have been through so much in the short time they have been trying to find their way to make things work. When Devon thinks Cassie has been killed his demon takes over and everyone is afraid they will not be able to bring him back. Cassie is the only one that can bring him back from the blackness he goes into.
I have sat and read this series consecutively and loved it. Yes it's a teen book and I couldn't help wanting more juicier love scenes but it just sucks you right in. I'm now sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for book 5.
I loved the series and it kept me on the edge of my seat. Fortunately and unfortunately I read the first four books one right after another but.....now what???? Please tell me the story continues?
