All I'm going to say is that I fell in love with Julian. Yes I know he's the main villain in the first two books. But there's more...

Ok I'm a series book cheater. I'll admit it but I can't help it and here's why. First off I'm a huge Erica Stevens fan. The captive series is quite frankly one of my favorite all time reads and *hint Erica* I really wish we had the next book. But while waiting for said book I did check out the kindred series. Ok I couldn't get into the first book. Idk why I just wasn't feeling it at the time so I archived and forgot. Then I stumbled upon a review of kindled and thought maybe it was just taking too long and I know it's a series no no but I bought and read it in one sitting then bought the next . I really loved the action and emotional drama in this book and *sigh* Julian your my favorite villain so far. So though I'm a disgraceful book cheating reader I loved this book and will recommend it to anyone with an obsession of romance and the paranormal like me!

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!

Kindle Edition
4 stars

My favorite of the series so far. The book begins with Cassie still not talking to Devon because of her grief over her grandmother's death. Chris & Devon become closer. Devon even gives him an extra key to his apartment so he can escape his mom & Cassie & Devon's emotions.
It's not until Cassie flees school & Devon finds her at her grandmother's grave, does she finally break down & let Devon in again. Cassie also lets Devon feed off of her blood for the first time.
Isla shows up at Cassie's house while Devon is at Luther's house learning what he found about the past hunters like Cassie. Isla is a grounder, they find out, as Isla knocks Chris & Melissa to the ground with her power. Cassie tells Dani to get them inside while she fights Isla. Isla & Cassie fight. When Cassie hears Isla admit to killing her grandmother, her rage intensifies so much that she's able to kill Isla. Afterwards, Cassie's body begins to shudder & change (to a vampire) but Devon is able to use his mind control on her to pull her back.
Luther & Devon divulge what they learned about the past hunters like Cassie. That Cassie's powers are more like a vampires & the past hunters turned into abominations. They were stuck in between hunters & vampires, just killing machines. The Commission, the governing body of the hunters, killed off all other hunters like Cassie. Now they know Cassie is in danger from them as well. Devon calls old vampire friends to help, Annabelle & Liam. Annabelle will take Cassie, Chris, Dani, Luther & Melissa to a safe house while Devon & Liam stay to ward off Julian & the Commission.
While in hiding, Dani betrays them & allows the Commission to take Cassie. Devon is devastated. He will not stop searching for her until she is found.
Cassie wakes up alone in a cell. Dani's brother, Joey, is part of the Commission & have her as prisoner. In the next room to her is Julian, who's been a prisoner for a couple weeks now.
As Cassie panics at her situation, Julian surprises her by telling her not to breathe too deeply because they're pumping drugs into their rooms through the vents to keep them knocked out.
Every day they're tortured. Cassie is electrocuted & has blood taken. Julian is experimented on. Day by day, Julian keeps Cassie alive by talking to her. He also tells her she is the one that will save them. He knows she can. Day by day they become closer. Cassie is confused by her feelings towards Julian. He falls in love with Cassie but knows Devon is still her love. Cassie is still sad & torn by it.
One day, Cassie wakes to an alarm blaring & screams. Cassie sees one of the in-between abominations, a halfling. Dani shows up & unlocks Cassie's door & tells her she needs to leave now & Dani will help her escape. She says there are many more of the haphlings. Cassie makes Dani find Julian so he can escape with them. Cassie helps Julian walk, he believes he's dreaming because he's so drugged. Cassie tells him it's no dream & they're escaping. He finally comes to & wants to kill Dani but Cassie stops him. As they're escaping they happen upon a halfling & kill him. As they finally break free into the fresh air of the outside, Cassie & Julian rejoice by hugging. Then they kiss & Cassie knows she loves Julian too but not like she loves Devon. Julian understands Cassie loves Devon more but he tells her he just needed to kiss her. Dani is repulsed by them. She feels Cassie has betrayed Devon. The book ends as Cassie & Julian run into the woods, far far away.

Gahhhh! Book 3 and NOW we have a love triangle? Wtf? I was *just* starting to like Cassie and now she's going to do this to Devon? Why can't she just be friends with that other dude? Why did she let him kiss her? Stockholm syndrome, maybe? Aren't Cassie's emotions already ALL OVER THE PLACE enough? Why add this in there?

I was actually going to write a review about the ridiculous self-doubt and entire excruciating paragraphs about "What's Devon doing? Who is he talking to? How can he have loved other women in 700+ years of life? Am I not good enough? Maybe he doesn't love me enough even though I felt how much he loved me through the bond." I just want to slap this mewling girl. She irritates me to no end and now she is love triangling and I am so over her. Grow the f up, Cassie.

ETA. Okay, okay. I've calmed down a bit. Bella isn't going to run off with Jacob. We all know how this ends (hopefully 🤞). #teamEdward

This is the third book of five in the Kindred Series, a YA Vampire Romance. The story continues where the second book left off. This is definitely my favorite book in the Series. The storyline is suspenseful, intriguing, and filled with unpredictable twists and turns. I loved to follow Devon, Cassie, her friends, and some other characters, in this journey! The story ends with a cliffhanger, and I can't wait to listen to the next book in the Series. Karen Bachman did a great job with the narration. I like her voice!

Just amazing. Way into a state of hyper-book hypnosis! My dream condition... reading and forget I'm reading!!! Awesome. Love it. Love these personalities and since I didn't stop until I finished the series I'll say the entire series is embracing and full realistic twists and turns that propel you forward! I can't say enough about the flow. Seem less but tugging by end of each book. Well done! Well written! Well read!

This book showcased Cassie and Devon individually which was a nice change ogf pace frim the previous 2 novels. As Im finding out, these books are full of twists and turns and unexpected surprises. I'm not too thrilled with the ending of this book because it's going to cause a lot of drama and angst in ther following book, I'm sure. I'm in the thick of it though and am interested to see what happens next.

I thought at one time that he was involve in to and he was planted in the cell to make her care and get the monster inside cassie to rear its ugly head. What is going on?!

Book Review- Kindred by Erica Stevens

Cassie and her friends, Melissa and Chris, are some of the only hunters left. They train with Luther trying to keep the vampires from hurting more humans. Cassie is having a hard time dealing with how her life is turning out. It has been significantly shortened. She doesn’t even look to the future. She is empty and angry at fate. Then one night she sees a stranger across the street hiding in the shadows. He fills up the empty holes in her soul. She has no clue who he is or why he has the effect on her he has.
Devon is also drawn to her. He can’t believe how he feels for her instantly. He registers himself for school to be close to her. He is determined to keep her safe. They both have their own secrets. Then an elder vampire enters the area, toying with Cassie and her team. Cassie is torn with her instant feelings for Devon and her responsibility. She is afraid he will be in danger because of her.
When the elder finally makes his move, Cassie runs to the rescue when she figures out some of the secrets surrounding Devon. She is shocked and angered at first, then she witnesses what is truly driving Devon.
I liked this book. It was fast moving and an emotional roller coaster for Cassie. The reader is along for the whole trip. Cassie tends to jump from one conclusion to another. She at times has no idea how to deal with what is being thrown at her. She has strength of character but in other things she is a bit weak in her approach.
I liked the pairing of Cassie and Devon. They are supposed to be enemies which adds to the dynamics of the story. The author makes it interesting because neither knows what the other is. The ending is pretty surprising. It will be interesting to see where the author takes it from there. I can’t wait to read the next installment. I give it a 4 out of 5.

This book is about betrayal from one of their own that has the commission coming after them. Cassie finds herself held captive by the commission and an unlikely person becomes a friend and maybe her only way out. But with twists and turns galore and feelings on high this book so far has been the most enjoyable. I’m now looking forward to the next book in this series.

I can't seem to stop reading each book until I finish it ! The love between Devon and Cassie has so many twists and turns that you don't know where it will end up. You will love this series if you enjoy demons, adventure, and a plot that has several reasons to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Really good, definitely got that Angel, Buffy, Spike Triangle. F*ck Dani. I’m forever mad that high school Cassie & Chris went too, Lived. That entire town should have been set on fire. The fact Cassie still cared about these awful bullies, just stupid. I don’t need a martyr. F*ck them kids.

So far I think this is my favorite book from the series. Cassie is now having to cope with the death of the person she loved the most and it is literally destroying her. I was really pulled into her internal struggle, now more than ever. The one person she is trying to push away the most is actually the only one who can possibly save her. Then she is kidnapped...This book was action-packed and thrilling from page one. It is definitely an exciting read.

The cliffhanger of the last book, when :SPOILER: Cassie rejects Devon :SPOILER OVER: had me writhing in agony and needing the next book to make sure they would work it out. You’re all probably beginning to think that if I review something by Erica Stevens it’s going to be an automatic 5-star and that’s true so long as her works don’t disappoint me and so far they’ve done just the opposite!

The plot:

I got tossed around a bit in this book, the quick change in direction keeping me on my toes as I tore through this series. Things could get better or, more likely, turn nasty in the bat of an eye and Ms. Stevens, the mistress of the cliffhanger, gives us yet another one to leave us aching for the sequel.

The characters:

Despite their rocky circumstances at the beginning of this book, Devon and Cassie’s relationship still grows, even with the nasty start. More questions are raised as to Cassie’s mysterious lack of a power (as all Hunters and vampires, as far as they know, have one) and just why it is she heals faster than any of her friends.

Here we see more of Dani, a young Hunter with power to create electrical surges, and finally meet Annabelle, the woman who changed Devon’s existence, while Julian, our prevalent baddie up to this point, shows a side of him we haven’t seen before. Isla, the sickening succubus, is also back and this time she wants Cassie’s throat.

Another fantastic YA paranormal romance from a fantastic author! A must-read for lovers of vampire romance and teen paranormal romance!

I read all her books in 24 hours, has to be a record for me, Cassie is such a likeable character as she is all that is good and pure yet holding such darkness with her threatening to break loose at any time. Consumed with grief and guilt over her grandmothers death Cassie is becoming a monster and shuns everyone searching for Julian so she can exact her revenge. Devon is terrified that Cassie will not survive this and worries that she has a death wish knowing that she will not walk away from a battle with Julian. Devon loves her so much and would do anything to keep her safe but he can't be with her all the time and he puts his trust in the wrong person. A enemy she did not see coming will change her whole perspective and she will be betrayed by someone she trusts. She will have to put her trust in the man she has threatened to kill if she ever wishes to see Devon again and her incarceration will forever change her, she will be something much more deadly and the darkness will be waiting for her.

it was hinted that cassie was different from melissa and chris but to be almost something else completely didnt see it. she is now dealing with the lose of her grandmother and back in devons arms she is even letting him feed from her and she has just taken out an almost elder vampire. luther and devon have filled everyone in on the fact that the commission will probably come and kill cassie from luther looking into other hunters with no abilities so devon calls annebelle and her mate liam for help. leaving devon and liam behind they go into hidding. devon is protecting grandmas house and everyone think they are safe....but they are so wrong. melissa has a vision..devon has gone crazy and cassie is missing. as she is being heald captive she finds love she didnt realize she could have for anyone else but devon.

I liked the book. However, it seems a bit repetative in saying "she wrapped her arms around herself". It seems every few lines she repeats the same phrase. Also, She seems to try over and over to explain the same senerio instead of moving on with the book. I thing explaining what is happening one time is suciffent. Unless, it really is something that needs more detail in the description in order to enhance the book. Overall the book was ok. If you read the first book you are usually stuck reading the series because your curiosity insists it has to get better with each book, but in this case it just stays at pretty much a plateau.

Wow... What happened.

I was loving the first two books, but this one. not so much.

Devon and Cassie are at it again. There are a few things that happen, but I feel like the first 3/4 of the book was just Cassie crying ALL THE TIME! She never seemed to shut up. I know that she is sad because of the events that happen to her, but really.

Julian on the other hand, Now I do have to say that the last 1/4 of the book made it worth waiting for. You found out a lot of information and some nice insight into Julian.

Overall, not the best book in the series so far. I would say, skip to about 130, then read. I will read the next one, I am faithful to my series, I was just wanting more.

All of these books rank the same star level (4 stars). I found the concept of each book awesome. Too me, it was unique and an excellent idea. There were a few points I didn’t like about each book, but that was to be expected. Overall, each book built upon the one before it, creating a world with vampires and hunters that I didn’t want to see come to an end. I can only hope that Erica Stevens’ other books are as good as these were – and maybe we even visit the same worlds with new characters. I plan on trying one of her other series in the near future to see if maybe my wish for more of this particular world is ful-filled.
