Mary Behre could never decide which kind of story she liked more, paranormal, mysteries or romances. So it only made sense that she combined all three in her books.

All three novels in her Tidewater Trilogy are award-winners.

Yay! *bounces up and down* I love this series from Behre so a little snackish novella to tide me over until the next full length...yes, please! A bit of suspense, a second chance romance, a little touch of heat and one seriously nom-ish cop. Mmmm. Yes. Harmonized hit all the right notes.

Karma’s only chance to save a kidnapped baby is the man she left behind and time is running out for the missing infant and for their second chance in this mesmerizing psychic suspense.

Still recuperating, Zig Harmon is about to face his toughest assignment yet…dealing with his former flame, Karma De La Cruz and the reader can’t help but be drawn into the story as the chemistry between these two explode while they try valiantly to hide their emotions. These strong compelling characters grab the reader’s attention from the very beginning with some pretty intense emotions that literally fly off the pages and the fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps readers on their toes with suspense and romance.

Expectation builds as Zig and Karma are forced to work together to learn the truth behind the missing infant while trying to come to terms with their pasts. Well written scenes and details bring the story to life while the intriguing events pull the readers in and refuse to let go.

While a little on the short side, this story never had a dull moment ensuring that I was couldn’t put the story down until I had read every last word and I can’t wait to visit Tidewater again.

I must tell you, I love the Tidewater series by Mary Behre. It has just a wee touch of paranormal making this romantic suspense series delightfully good. Harmonized is a novella and offered up Zig Harmon’s story. We met Zig in a previous book and I was delighted to get his story. Behre delivered a great case, updated us a little on characters and other ongoing cases. Karma De La Cruz is the love interest and this second chance romance and perfect for a novella. I loved Karma and Zig together and the story delivered just enough heat to make me smile. The case that brings them together concerns a missing infant. Law enforcement has determined that the child is deceased. Karma’s ability has her convinced the baby is alive. The tale wrapped up completely and satisfied my fix for this series between full-length novels. Harmonized will work as a standalone and is the perfect way to try this author.

Well look-it what we have here! A nice little tide over pressie from the author while I wait for the next book in the series. I was tickled to see this novella with Zig's story. He was a favorite character from book one and his quick.

This is part of the Tidewater series and falls after the second book. It could standalone or be read to check out the series, but I think it would be best to get it in order so back references would make sense.

The story opens with police officer, Zig Harmon, stuck on desk duty because of the injury he got and wishing for any excitement to happen to break up the monotony. Be careful what you wish for because into the station whirls the woman he hasn't seen for eight years. He loved her and thought he would marry her until she disappeared without a word. Zig's old anger and hurt rear up, but also the unwelcome feeling of attraction. He doesn't want to want her and would rather walk away to protect his heart, but Karma's troubles involve a lost little baby and she needs his help.

Karma De La Cruz is desperate to help her friend who is in a coma wrongfully accused of trying to kill her baby. Karma's psychic gift to read auras helps her know that the baby is still alive and he needs to be found. She doesn't know how to go about finding him so she has to convince the police to continue investigating the case. Her resolve is strong until the officer on duty turns out to be the man she left and she sees by the cold flat stare in his eyes that he hasn't forgiven her. But he eventually agrees to help and does. Karma realizes that she made the biggest mistake of her life leaving Zig behind and now hopes for a second chance with him as they partner on the case.

The story by necessity clips along quickly, but it is well-developed and has an engaging plot. The plot is split between their race to find the baby and the romance conflict. I had a good time with this one and liked both characters. At first, I was inclined to see Karma as a disappointment for hurting Zig and admittedly, the eventual explanation did defuse my issues with her. Poor thing definitely had worthy reasons for disappointing them both when she left.

As with the others in the series, the author gave a fun psychic gift to her heroine and made the hero a hunky, exciting cop to team together to solve a mystery. I loved the build up of tension between the pair and then the resolve. I hope to see more of them just as it was fun to see more of the pair from the first story in this one.

All in all, this did the job of tiding me over nicely until the release of book three. I would recommend this book/series to those who enjoy lightly humorous, slightly psychic romantic suspense.

My thanks to Penguin Group for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Initial Thoughts: For fans of the Tidewater series, I think this novella is a must. I enjoyed revisiting with Zig and seeing him have a happily ever after. I liked Karma as well and felt that she and Zig complemented each other well. It gives a nice background to what I assume is the serial killer plot in the next book, but it is not vital to read for the next book. However, for those that enjoyed seeing Zig in the first novel, it's great to see him again, healing and doing better. Zig Harmon is doing desk duty while he recuperates from being nearly killed on a case he was working on. He is not very happy with this fact and he wishes something exciting would happen so he would not be so bored. He needs to remember the old saying to “be careful what you wish for”. When the former love of his life walks into the police station, life as he knows it will be changed forever.

Karma De La Cruz believes that a baby that is considered dead is still very much alive. The mother is believed to have attempted suicide by jumping and it is believed that she took her baby with her. But with Karma’s special abilities, she truly believes that the baby is very much alive and has been kidnapped. When Karma walks into the police station to ask for help, she does not expect to see Zig but realizes that his being there is really a blessing. Since they have a history he knows about her special ability. She knows that he will believe her and she hopes he will help her. How can he turn his back on her and let down an innocent baby?

The characters are well rounded, well developed and three dimensional. When Zig and Karma see each other feelings and memories return that both thought were long gone, but they were both wrong. Feelings of anger, resentment, regret and love come to the surface. These feelings need to be dealt with if they have any chance of a happily ever after. I really enjoyed the interaction between Zig and Karma and I could feel the deep connection that they had with each other. The anger and hurt that Zig felt and the regret that Karma had seemed so realistic to me. These are characters that I could easily feel a connection with and I cared about what happened to them. Even the secondary characters were people you could really like (and really dislike) and I want to know the story behind some of these secondary characters. I thought the characterization is one of the many reasons I like this book so much.

The action, mystery, suspense and paranormal are all blended together expertly to make for a very suspenseful read. There are twists and turns to keep the reader guessing and I found myself wanting to turn the pages quickly to see what would happen next. I kept finding myself thinking “just one more chapter” and then that would turn into three or four more chapters. The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. Between the suspense and the romance I just could not read the book fast enough. Sometimes a book just clicks with the reader and that is what happened when I read this book.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well-crafted mystery suspense with a touch of paranormal. I am now a fan of Mary Behre and I already have the first book in the series. I really cannot recommend this book enough, I just loved it.

3.5 stars - My review cross-posted from Wit and Sin: http://witandsin.blogspot.com/2015/07...

A frantic search for a missing baby reunites two lovers in Harmonized . Zig and Karma’s story is fast-paced and addictive, so much so that I hated it whenever I had to put down my Kindle.

Zig was in love with Karma back when they were in college, and when she left him without a word it broke his heart. Eight years later, she’s back in his life and desperate for his help. Everyone thinks Karma’s friend killed her child in a botched suicide attempt, but Karma can see auras and knows the baby is alive. With the mother in a coma and all supernatural signs pointing to the baby running out of time, Karma turns to Zig, a cop who knows the truth of her gift and is willing to do everything he can to help her. Author Mary Behre has a deft hand with the paranormal, and I was fascinated by Karma’s abilities and how they added another facet to the suspense storyline. The mystery/suspense plot could have benefited from being fleshed out in a slightly longer format, but as it stands it definitely kept the book hopping.

Karma and Zig’s romance weaves perfectly with the suspense plotline. It’s clear the two of them never fell out of love, despite their years apart. Though there are hurt feelings and trust issues that must be overcome, it’s easy to see that Karma and Zig are meant to be. While I enjoyed their love story, I did feel it was a bit rushed. Perhaps with more page time, the romance could have been better fleshed out. Even taking this into account, I was rooting for Karma and Zig to make it and the two of them did make me smile.

Harmonized is a novella set in Ms. Behre’s Tidewater series, but it can be read as a standalone. There are some spoilers for the first book, Spirited, where Zig was a supporting character. I haven’t yet read Spirited, but I thoroughly enjoyed seeing its hero and heroine after their happily ever after in this story. More importantly, Ms. Behre drops some hints as to what might be coming for the next Tidewater book and that has me excited. The Tidewater series is an excellent blend of paranormal and suspense and Harmonized is the perfect story to tide (no pun intended) readers over until the next novel, Energized, is released.

Harmonized by Mary Behre is a novella in her Tidewater series. Harmonized is a novella that precedes the next full length book, Energized, coming in August. This was a nice exciting story, with a sweet romance between our heroes in this story, Zig and Karma.

Zig Harmon, whom we met in the earlier books, is on desk duty due to injuries on the job. To his surprise, he sees his ex Karma De La Cruz, come to the police department. Karma left him years before, without telling him why, and now she needs his help. Karma has physic abilities that give her visions. She returns to Tidewater to help prove her friend is innocent of killing her baby, as she jumped off the bridge. Karma insists that the child is still alive, with her friend in the hospital unconscious. Zig is aware of Karma’s abilities, but all the evidence points to her friend being guilty. Despite their awkwardness about the past, they agree to work together to discover the truth before the child dies.

What follows is an exciting adventure, as Zig begins to realize that Karma’s visions are real, and they race to find the culprit. While this is going on, the chemistry between them is unavoidable to resist, as they both succumb to their lust for each other. Will Zig and Karma stay together? Will they be able to find the child in time, and prove her friend’s innocence?

Mary Behre’s Tidewater series is a wonderful romance suspense, with great characters and exciting storylines. Harmonized was a perfect read to hold us over until the next Tidewater book, Energized.

Harmonized kept me turning the pages until late at night! The Tidewater series novella delivers suspense, second-chance romance, and an opportunity to revisit characters from the previous books - it stars Zig Harmon from Spirited, and offers a glimpse of Seth and Jules from the same novel. Behre packs a lot into a short time frame, and the story and relationship develop quickly. Karma's passionate defense of her friend and determination to find the baby give an early glimpse into her character, and Zig exhibits the integrity, protectiveness, and empathy I look for in a hero. There's a lot of pain and anger between them over their breakup, but the attraction and feelings between them are palpable, which makes the swift pacing easier to believe - and the resolution something to cheer about. Whether or not you've read the other books, Harmonized will whet your appetite for the forthcoming Energized.

Full disclosure: I do my best to be honest in my reviews regardless of personal acquaintance, but I do know the author slightly.

Content warning: there's a fair bit of profanity and one explicit scene. (I don't usually include a content warning but the level of profanity, though probably true to life, is higher than some readers will be comfortable with.)

My Review:
A perfect novella Harmonized is just the right length with just the right amount of action and reunion tension for us romance and thrill lovers.
Behre keeps her intense writing going even in short stories and because I'm a sucker for the reunion love I already had the positive vibes going in so I loved that we get that extra build up between Karma and Zig right from the beginning.
Harmonized is fun, its exciting, and its just the right amount of sexy and mysterious for a quicky.

The main premise of this series is about 3 sisters that were separated as children who each have some form of psychic abilities. The first two books were about Jules and Shelly. In Jules book Zig Harmon was a young patrol officer that ended up injured. This novella is his story which has him getting second chance at love along with a mystery of a missing baby.

It’s always nice to get a story about a secondary character from previous books. Zig and Karma had a relationship in college but she just left one day without any explanation. Now she’s back 8 years later and needs Zig’s help in finding her friends baby. Problem is the town thinks the mother tried to commit suicide by jumping off a bridge taking her baby with her. Now she’s in a coma and the town thinks the baby is dead. Karma doesn’t believe this and needs someone to help her find the baby. Along with the search Zig and Karma also have to work through the pain of their past and the strong feelings they still have for one another.

Best part was a sneak peak at the end we get of Hannah’s story who we have been given so little information about so far as she was the youngest sister who was adopted at 3 in a private adoption.

Great New Series!
This is a great book; this is the first book in the Tidewater series by Mary Behre. Karma left the town of Tidewater eight years ago. She is now back in town trying to help her friend. Karma’s friend is in a coma after she went off a bridge and the police suspect that her friend also had her baby with her when she went off the bridge. Karma knows that her friend would never hurt herself or the baby, plus she can see people’s auras including the baby’s so she knows the baby is still alive. Karma goes to the police to get their help in locating the baby but they think she is crazy. Zig is a police officer who has been assigned to desk duty after almost dying while on assignment. Zig has also been in love with Karma since high school and when she left town without a word his heart was broken. Now they must work together to find the baby before it’s too late. If you are looking for a good romance book with suspense then you need to read this book. I can’t wait until the next book in this series comes out.

Harmonized was my introduction to Mary Behre and the Tidewater series. I was thrilled to finally find a series that encompassed the romance, mystery and paranormal genres, without including vampires! I found this novella held my attention, and effectively shared a story of a former couple who become dependent upon one another to solve a mystery. Despite an abrupt ending to their relationship several years prior, the chemistry between Zig and Karma is still flowing. Their story was engaging and a fabulous way to spend an afternoon. Without hesitation I would recommend this novella.

Please note, I was provided with an advanced copy of this novella by the publisher in return for an honest review.

This was a fun, quick read. It's been so long since I read the first book in this series, I really didn't remember Zig. I certainly enjoyed getting reacquainted with him. Zig and Karma had great chemistry. I wish the book was longer, as it seemed to end rather abruptly. Then again, isn't that always the problem with novellas?

Good mystery for a novella

Even though this was a quick novella, it was packed full of story. I loved Zig. Karma was good, but naive. The ending was a little rush but what do expect on a novella. This author is well worth reading.
