This fourth installment of the Lone Star Defenders series takes us back to Mercy County, Texas, for another gripping romantic suspense experience. The story focuses on Sheriff Deena Thompson who becomes entangled with a dangerous child-abduction ring, putting her life and the life of her 5-year-old son in jeopardy. A joint investigation with FBI agent John Pearson forces both Deena and John to confront their unresolved past and the possibility of a second chance romance. The fast-paced, emotionally intense plot, throwing the characters into one high-stakes, suspense-filled peril after another, hooked me from the beginning and kept me riveted the whole way through. The characters were so well done that I couldn't help getting wrapped up in their ups and downs. I could feel Deena's struggle to balance her role as a mother and her duty as a law-enforcement officer and John's regret over his past behavior. This book was a standout for me, and I strongly recommend both it and the series.

Another awesome book by Virginia Vaughn. Once I started reading I just could not put it down.

Sheriff Deena Thompson was taking her son's shoes back to the store to exchange them when she spots a man trying to abduct a little boy. She was able to intercept and keep him from taking this one. Then she finds out the CARD team is in the town of London and they are investigating a missing child. One of the Agents from there comes to them for help and to see if it might be the same person who abducted their little girl.

As they investigate the mystery unfolds and I found myself on the edge of my seat not wanting to stop reading. I think you will enjoy this book as much as I did. I highly recommend giving it a try.

Virginia Vaughn is a fairly new favorite author of mine. I just finished Targeted for Abduction which is book 4 of the Lone Star Defenders series. I’ve loved all of the series and can’t wait for book 5.

Sheriff Deena Thompson is in the crosshairs of a child abduction ring. FBI agent John Pearson is a member of CARD team investigating the ring and searching for the missing children. As they work together tension arise and secrets are exposed.

Virginia skillfully keeps you engrossed and turning the pages. She builds believable characters with suspense and romance.

I absolutely love Target for Abduction by Virginia Vaughn from beginning to end! I love that Ms. Vaughn packed suspense from the very first page! I enjoyed meeting Deena and John! I thought it was an interesting twist in Christian Fiction to have Deena and John meet the way that they did. Having John and Deena meet the way they did and then have them turn to Christ after gave Target for Abduction a Redeeming quality that I adored. I love that in the midst of the Redemption of the plot, there was a heinous twist to the suspense of the plot that gave me Criminal Minds vibes! I also like how the book explored the individual personal struggles that John and Deena had—John having to make amends for past mistakes and Deena always wanting to be right and forge ahead, doing things on her own, especially when it came to her son Charlie—and what they both learned from it. If you’re looking for a highly suspenseful read full of Redemption, I highly recommend Target for Abduction by Virginia Vaughn!

Another amazing book by author Virginia Vaughn. This is the fourth book in the Lone Star Defenders series, but it is also considered a stand alone book.

You first meet Sheriff Deena Thompson of the Mercy County sheriffs department. Deena has a four-year-old son named Charlie.

You then meet FBI Special Agent John Pearson. John is with the CARD team at the FBI which is the Child Abduction Rapid Deployment team. John is working on a missing six-year-old girl case in the next county over from Mercy, Texas.

Deena is at the local shoe store in town exchanging a pair of boots for Charlie. As she is waiting she notices a little boy around the same age as Charlie walked by the store front window. A little further back is his mom on her phone not really paying too much attention to the little boy. Out of nowhere, a guy goes running by and grabs the little boy and runs off with him. Deena runs out of the store and chases down the abductor. She is able to safely catch him and get the little boy back to his mom. She takes the kidnapper into custody and the FBI is then called in.

When the FBI arrives, she recognizes the special agent in charge of the CARD team. When she had first met him, he said his name was John Crawford, but when he introduced himself, he said his name was Special Agent John Pearson. Obviously, Deena is confused by the name that he is using. She notices that he doesn’t recognize her and that makes it even more confusing. Deena has a secret that John is Charlie’s father, but he has not acknowledged that he even knows Deena.

Deena sets aside the fact that John is acting like he doesn’t know her. As they work together to dismantle a child abduction ring that is targeting certain children, the abductors start to target Deena and Charlie. John is drawn to Deena and her son. Will he be able to keep them both safe? Will Deena find out the truth about why John doesn’t recognize her?

Come along on this action-packed, page-turning adventure. I highly recommend this book and you will not be disappointed.

This was a thrilling, edge of your seat romantic suspense. I have not read a book of Ms. Vaughn’s I haven’t enjoyed and this one was of no exception. When given the opportunity to read an advanced copy, I jumped onto it without even reading the summary blurb. And you know what….I thoroughly enjoyed discovering the premise of the story.

There were several twists and turns and times it made you wonder “who done it”?? The action sequences certainly keep you on your toes!

I really liked John’s character. He owned his past mistakes and apologized. He is that had gotten to the point in maturing and overcoming his addiction that he didn’t make excuses but vowed to be better. That to me shows someone’s true character and someone I would be proud to know or be with. Deena is a very hardworking single mom/Sheriff. You admire her for how she thinks and puts her son and family first but also upholds her vow to protect the citizens in her town the best she can. I understood why she didn’t tell John right away but I also disagreed on the timing she actually did tell him BUT in the heat of stress sometimes you don’t think clearly.

The book overall was clean with no crude language. The chemistry was well written that you still got the feels for their relationship and knew that they were meant to be together.

TRIGGER - this is a child abduction story so you will hear and “experience” events of attempts and success. HOWEVER, just know there is a happily ever for all parties.

The past and present collide in spectacular fashion in a way that Sheriff Deena Thompson never dreamed possible. She is exceptionally good at her job, and takes it very seriously. She needs to solve this current case. The FBI agent that just walked through her doors is a blast from the past, a past of which she is uncomfortable. She has to put her discomfort aside because she knows that seeing the man she has not seen in years, nor thought she would ever see, is the least of her worries for now. A child abduction ring has their sights set on the children of her town, including Deena's own son. She will need all the help she can get to find these depraved individuals.

FBI agent John Pearson and his team have been chasing leads trying to find missing children from many different places. The pattern has brought them to Deena's town.

This was not only a great mystery, but a heart tugging one as well. Child abductions are scary, even in a fictional setting, so this made reading this story even more tense. The author handed a very emotional subject with grace, while also keeping the suspense high.

It was chock full of intrigue, suspense and twists, while also providing a faith thread and a message of hope and second chances.

This might be my favorite book written by this author. She really showed her imaginative chops and stretched my mind to its limits as I tried to solve the mystery while racing to the explosive ending.

I was so very hesitant about this novel. I tend to stay away from novels dealing with child abduction. However, I discovered that new-to-me author, Virginia Vaughan, tackled this harrowing and emotionally charged topic with such tenderness and insight. She paired it well with the complexities of familial bonds, forgiveness, and resilience to pen a heart-wrenching and compelling novel about ordinary people who are forced to navigate roads they would never choose for themselves and do so with relentless pursuit of resolution and healing.

Mercy County, Texas, is experiencing an unparalleled rash of crimes of opportunity, in particular, stranger abduction. The perpetrators’ heartbreaking focus is on young children. Both Charlie, 4 years old, and Kelly, another young child, have been taken recently from the streets while they were out with a parent. When Special Agent John Pearson FBI arrives to liaise with Sheriff Deena Thompson, it turns their lives upside down and reveals something else that needs immediate attention.

This is a pacey novel with plenty to keep one’s heart pounding. I also loved that it focused on hope, second chances, and redemption. I’ll be looking out for more books by this author, in particular her Lone Star Defenders series, as I started with the fourth book and am interested in reading previous installments.

My favorite quote is
The clerk behind the counter smiled at her as she entered. “Good morning, Sheriff. What can I do for you today?”
“I need to exchange these for a larger size.” She set the bag on the counter, then checked the racks for a different pair in Charlie’s size. She found what she was looking for, then carried them to the counter.

This was a good read!! Deena is the Sheriff of a small TX town, and rescues a young boy from a would-be abductor. The attempted abduction bring the FBI to town, though they've been close as another child was abducted from a town two hours away. When the FBI arrives, Deena recognizes the lead in town as John, a man she knew for a weekend in Vegas, and who she married then, five years ago. John doesn't recognize Deena, though, as there are things he doesn't remember from that time in his life. When there are numerous threats on Deena's life, and the taking of Deena's son, John realizes he's already fallen for Deena, and that just maybe he really fell for her that weekend in Vegas. Now, he's ready to be a husband and father, though he doesn't know that he's the father of Deena's son. If everyone can stay alive long enough for them all to get to know each other. You'll want to keep reading, as the book will grip you and not let you go!

Target for Abduction was a book that I didn't want to put down. There is a child abduction ring going on near Sheriff Deena Thompson's county and it isn't long before she finds out it's happening in her county. FBI agent John Pearson arrives to help with this case and much to Deena's surprise he's someone from her past, but she knows him by another name. John is making up for his past, much that he doesn't remember, because of the downward spiral he was in with his drinking. He realizes that he has hurt Deena in some way, but can only explain himself and apologize to her. But Deena has a secret of her own from their past.
When the ring targets her and attempts to grab her son, she knows that she must forgive John and work together to get her son and the other children back.
The ending of this book totally took me by surprise. While I thought the bad guys were taking children for one reason, come to find out it was a totally different thing altogether.

I know a story is really good when I can’t put it down. This is one of those stories. I started it in the late afternoon. Although I told myself that I would finish it tomorrow, I couldn’t stop reading it. I knew that if I had put it down, I would have been wondering all night about the outcome. If this is not the author’s best story yet, it is definitely one of her best. The characters are relatable, and the story has great action and suspense. Usually, I am pretty good at figuring out the guilty party, but this time I was kept guessing till near the end—and I really didn’t mind because I was engaged in the whole story. Congratulations to the author for producing such an enjoyable read!

I don't ever remember reading a book with this type of "back story" for the main characters so if you are ready for a new twist to a mystery/suspense story - this book is for you!! The main characters are Sheriff Deena Thompson and FBI Special Agent John Pearson and their back story is a doozy! They end up working together to find the people who are abducting children. It becomes very personal when they come after Deena's young son and attempt to kill her. Can they figure out who is involved? Could it be someone they know and trust? Can they solve this mystery before another child goes missing? Once you start this book, you will find it hard to put down. I received an advance copy from the author but all opinions are my own.

Target for Abduction is an amazing clean romantic suspense tale that grabbed my attention from page one and never let go. The first scene stirred my anxiety! Thank goodness for Sheriff Thompson saving the day. The set-up for the main plot is in place but it’s the subplot that keeps sneaking in to steal the show. The entire book was a joy to read. The characters developed as they accepted responsibility for mistakes and pointed to God as the catalyst for change as well as the source of strength to become better. Some characters from previous books appear but this is a complete story that stands alone. If you enjoy clean romance with a strong element of suspense, this is a delightful book from start to finish. I received an advance copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.

Sherriff Deena Thompson stops a child from being kidnapped and puts herself in the middle of trying to locate and stop a ring of child kidnappings. Enter FBI agent John Pearson who is part of a task force to find and end the abductions. He has a history with Deena that he can't remember because of a drinking problem he had. Deena becomes a target of this group. She's shot at, drugged and then her son is abducted. She and John forgive their past mistakes and put everything in to finding their son and also the other children who have been abducted. Highly recommend this book. You won't want to put it down. Great storyline by a great author. I was given an advance copy of this book, but these are my words and thoughts.

This is a true keep to the edge of your seat story.
I loved the twisty turning plot that is Vaughan's trademark. This is what had me on the edge of my seat. Of course biting my nails and holding my breath to see if,when and how they captured the perps.
I instantly like Sheriff Deena Adam's but really couldn't warm up to John at first.
I like Deena. She's really quite the character
Her determination to find these children had me rooting for her and eventually John.
My favorite thing 2nd chances of course! Will they finally realize that they're made for each other? Y'all just have to pick this story up to find out!

This book was so fantastic, I couldn't put it down! Deena and John's story starts out in not the greatest way! 4 years later they are reunited on a child Abduction case. Deena is the town sheriff and single mom. I love how strong she is yet is gentle and loved by the town. John is alpha male with a big heart. Undercover wasn't kind to him and he made some huge mistakes. Now he is on the child Abduction team of the FBI and has his life put together. These two have to learn to work together to save these missing kids and protect her town. I loved watching the professional and personal sides of these two progress. Rom-coms are my go to but I absolutely love romantic suspense. add in that its clean and has faith mixed in and I loved it so much! This was soooo good!

This complicates matters when he is in town to help resolve a child abduction ring which Deena has stubbled upon while shopping. This has put her own son in peril and John and Deena must work together to solve the question of who these people are before any more kids are taken. Their own past must be resolved in order for Deena to trust him completely, but their feelings must be secondary to her child's safety. As the danger increases, so does their attraction. Can they put the clues together and keep her son and other kids safe?

Target for Abduction by Virginia Vaughan is a suspenseful story. The action began early and persisted. I enjoyed getting to know Sheriff Deena Thompson, FBI Agent John Pearson, and little Charlie. The author effectively conveyed Deena and John's emotions. I could imagine the shock Deena felt when she saw John. I understood her hesitancy to tell John about their son. The pair had obvious chemistry. I liked the suspense, mystery, action, and underlying faith in the book. The ending wrapped up the story well. Though Target for Abduction is the fourth Lone Star Defenders book, it works well as a standalone. Target for Abduction is a tense tale with snatched children, a blast from the past, a startling revelation, blasting bullets, a crunched car, and time for the truth.

A plot twist hits early, and it kept me quickly turning the pages of this unique story. There was so much in this book that I haven't seen before in similar ones! The story is original and it kept surprising me. I loved the flawed, relatable heroine and hero, and two of the minor characters also stole my heart. When a secondary character acts with unexpected heroics near the end, I gasped aloud. Don't miss out on this one. This book is one I will read again.

Oh wow, this book was amazing! Right from the first page, you are pulled into the story when Sheriff Deena barely manages to stop a child abduction. To make matters worse, it seems like the child abduction ring is now in her town and that brings the FBI and with them... a face from the past that she never thought she would see again. And that is just the beginning! The book is full of suspenseful moments, a dash of romance and a very emotional ending! I seriously couldn't put the book down during the last like 6 chapters. Overall, this was one of the best Love Inspired Suspense I've read recently and I give it 5 stars!
