I wasn’t even supposed to be going to the reunion. Chloe needed help packing up her mom’s house and I offered to go back to Gomillion with her, as any best friend would. That doesn’t mean I want to reunite with people I haven’t seen in over twenty years. The story itself was so good. A group of friends come back for their high school reunion and reconnect after 20 years apart.
Brad recognises something in Finn but can’t quite place him. Either way, he’s instantly infatuated. Finn is nervous; his attraction to Brad never went away, but he isn’t the same person as he was 20 years ago, and he isn’t sure if he should explain himself to Brad. They get talking, and Brad is the same kind of person he was at school— kind and thoughtful— so Finn opens up about him being trans. Together, they explore the feelings they’ve always had for one another. Their relationship is very sweet, and the author does such a great job at showing the sheer amount of joy and beauty that love can be in any form, from Brad and Finn to Chloe and Christian’s queer platonic relationship.
The education aspect of this book was probably one of the better stories I’ve read. The author keeps it real, and the story is emotional, joyful, and touches upon intimacy and being comfortable in your body. It was a really interesting learning experience when you haven’t had any experience of what being trans means to people before.
Overall, the story was just so incredibly sweet. Their friendship love turning into romantic love. The story between Brad and his mam was emotional. The support from their growing friendship circle, and taking on a new journey with their found family. Chloe, Christian, Brad, and Finn were the definition of meant to be.

D.C. Emerson is an author whose books I will ALWAYS read and yell at other people to also read their work. I have loved every single thing I have read from them, and Brad & Finn is no exception. D.C. Emerson encapsulates a lot of real and raw internal struggles of queer folks so well, but especially highlights queer joy. Their books are so comforting and relatable. Brad & Finn is very low-angst (pretty much none) with just a touch of spice. And the sex scenes? So amazingly well done and carefully crafted regarding how many trans people navigate intimacy and how they feel the most comfortable with their bodies. The communication made me so happy to see and feels so realistic to actual queer lived experiences. As a trans person, this made me feel all warm and fuzzy and seen. The friend group/found family is one of my favorite things about this story. If you want something cozy with plenty of emotion, then look no further. D.C. Emerson is such an amazing human and author, and everyone should seriously check out their work.

Powerful and well written.
Brad and Finn were both well developed, and several side characters were as well. Which the author managed without taking time away from the core story. Evolution of self, sexuality and gender identity seemed very authentic to me, real and reasonable and—without being preachy—making it clear that each journey is individual and there is no single “correct” approach to that journey.
This book also included some wonderful, brilliant descriptions. The bit about the scented candles is one such instance. Others:
“…like the mean girl she never really was”
and perhaps my favorite,
“…crying for love, for the pain it inflicted on those that held it tight, cramming it in their pockets and stuffing it in their mouths, trying to hold onto it for dear life.”
I don’t know… that imagery just really struck me.
Also… points for correct use (and spelling) of “bury the lede”. lol
The only criticism I have (and honestly, this could *easily* be a “devoured the book too quickly and missed some details” me thing, and not actually a need for more detail… is that I didn’t really feel the close friendship that Brad and Finn had during high school. Eventually enough was said that I understood that they felt like best friends at the time… but it seemed as if I was expected to pick up on that earlier in the book than I did. No impact on my rating - even if it turns out it wasn’t just me being inattentive, it’s minor.
Side note… if the author would like to someday share Chloe and Christian’s stories, I would be happy about that!

This was a really fun book, and I absolutely adored the (slightly) unconventional ending. I always love a good multi-author collaboration, and as soon as I learned D.C. Emerson was contributing, I couldn’t wait to see what they had in store for us! This book blends their detailed storytelling style with some delicious spice and incredible representation that you don’t get to see in a lot of other books. I enjoyed the insight we get into each character’s thoughts and psyche. I was on the edge of my seat as Brad and Finn connect throughout their reunion weekend but have to try and figure out what’s next for them when they return back to their normal lives. Brad’s definitely showing some signs of burnout, and he’s been putting his job before anything else for too long. On the other hand, Finn’s had his best friends by his side throughout every high and low of his transition, but he still struggles to find his place after he lost contact with his father in college.
The spice in this book caught me off guard but in the best possible way. I liked how the author included each character’s boundaries, their need to communicate through everything, and some frank discussions that aren’t comfortable to have but important to represent. Brad and Finn were so perfect together, I loved how sweet they were. The found family and queer platonic relationships in this book were everything I didn’t know I needed! I also loved the role their mothers played in the book, and the epilogue just made me so happy for everyone! Looking forward to checking out some of the other additions to this cool shared world.

November 11, 2025this is a really solid book. it is a high school reunion with a jock and a former cheerleader. I really enjoy romance books with main characters in their late thirties, early '40s and older. in this one, Brad is a former jock and Finn is a former cheerleader. Finn ends up coming as his best friends date because he doesn't want to come out as trans to his entire high School. but when Brad starts flirting with him at the bar and they end up back at a hotel room, he ends up telling Brad the truth and the two of them start this reconnection.
I really liked Chloe's role and all of this and having an aroace secondary character on page who is in a queer photonic relationship was really healing. overall, this is a really solid book and I enjoyed it

Really loved all the different relationship dynamics in this one! Brad & Finn have a lovely connection but I really also liked the emphasis on how important Chloe also is to both of them. It’s very sweet and I loved all the healing aspects in this book too! Just lovely!

This was such a sweet, wholesome read about reconnecting with people you loved. For starters, I loved Brad. He was all green flags. He treated everyone around him with so much kindness and love, and he was committed to doing the work to better himself. Of course, I also loved Finn. I understood his anxieties about returning to high school, and I am glad he had such a great support network in Chloe and Brad. Though I did not understand Chloe and Finn’s fake dating scheme. But as for Brad and Finn together, I was obsessed with their dynamic. They had such amazing chemistry, along with emotional maturity and communication. Finn was so brave, coming out to Brad, and Brad received it so well, setting the tone for a relationship built on deep trust and affection. Of course, it still wasn’t smooth sailing. Brad in particular had a moment, but he worked hard to fix it quickly and bring Finn back in the loop so they could work it out as a team and build a happily ever after. So overall, I loved this book and highly recommend!

What a lovely, gentle and sweet read! I enjoyed my time at the Gomillion high school reunion and will seek out more stories in this world.
The series premise is the high school’s inaugural class coming together for their 20-year reunion. The story stars Brad, former quarterback and now a football recruiter, and Finn, a trans man and former cheerleader, who’s there incognito as the fake boyfriend of their mutual bestie Chloe, so that Finn can be part of the reunion without having to out himself and tell his life story to everyone and sundry.
Brad and Finn were very close in high school, one of those dynamics that circle each other, are there for each other, get each other, but were never a dating possibility due to Brad having a constant on again off again girlfriend (another close friend in their friend circle, who I was very glad was NOT part of the story, thank you author!) and Finn not being in a mindset to really date.
Fast forward 20 years, and Brad’s meeting Chloe’s boyfriend...and realizing he knows him. And has missed him for 20 years. Luckily, the boyfriend relationship is not real, and Chloe’s matchmaking instincts kick right in, and she encourages these two to grab the opportunity they didn’t get all those years ago.
They’re in such different places now, but still have that strong friendship connection and chemistry... and more. Both are quick to realize they want to explore things, and sneaking around and learning who the other is now is a lot of the fun.
Of course, the connection is so strong so fast, it’s overwhelming, and...well, both have a lot to work through. Brad’s a people pleaser who’s never really lived for himself. Finn’s taken decades to become his full self and has a lot at stake. And this fragile reconnection needs roots and time to grow...yet there is no time. Decisions must be made. Feelings must be risked. Are they brave enough to try, or will they be over before they really begin?
I will admit to getting impatient with Brad, who waffles. A lot. I kinda wanted to kick him, and I didn’t always quite understand his conflict; it seemed a little silly here and there, like making much ado about...not nothing, but, blowing obstacles way out of proportion and making weird logic-leap assumptions. But, the tension and conflict played out, and overall, I enjoyed the read and the open minds and different types of relationships that were highlighted and embraced in the read. Finn was terrific, strong and confident in his desires and wants. I adored him.
The friendship backstory also seemed inconsistent...Brad was dating one cheerleader, but great friends with Chloe...but then he's said to be Finn's best friend...but...I don't think he was? They got along but he seemed most involved with Chloe and the girlfriend? Something was off there. Maybe I misread it. Not important, but, threw me a bit.
Chloe was a terrific friend, and other secondary characters were well defined and added layers to the story, including Chloe’s mom and Brad’s mom, and Chloe’s significant other. Plus several cool classmates.
HEA. Former high school QB and cheerleader who were never quite a thing but get a new chance as adults. High school reunion. Bi man, trans-masc man. Lovely respectful and steamy sex scenes, which this lay-person felt were well done. Highly recommended.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It had me laughing and crying, and riding the highs and lows of the weekend with Brad and Finn. The characters were so real, I felt like they were friends and I could identify with all those feelings when coming back for a reunion 20 years later. Brad was so supportive of Finn when they had the talk the first night together. It brought me to tears with his total acceptance and compassion for Finn’s revelation, the concern and understanding shown for what Finn was going through as he shared, just highlighted the kind of person Brad was. It also brought me to tears when Brad’s mother was also totally accepting and understanding, treating Finn no differently than she had in his former identity, and welcoming him wholeheartedly again. In that moment, she was the mother he had never known. Finn had finally been able to live his life as the person he felt he was inside, but it had been a journey of his own. He still had his ADHD and anxiety to deal with, but Brad was a calming influence for him. The two really did augment each other in so many ways, finding the person that filled some of the missing holes, and someone to share their love and life with.
Brad and Finn had a special connection from all those years ago, and it was still there, even with Finn’s new identity. Brad knew there was something familiar about Finn, and he was so pleased when the feelings from long ago were still there, just as strong, and at the right time for them. They were both at a time in their lives now where the two just fit together, and Brad was romantic enough to take advantage of their time together to make Finn feel seen and beautiful and loved.
I could identify with them going through Chloe’s mother’s things and finding the Polaroid camera. It was such a coincidence, as I had recently found one just a few days ago while going through some things, and it still worked. I loved how they were able to make more memories at the reunion with their own photo shoots, especially the ones Brad took of Finn and how hw incorporated them into the yearbook.
This is one of the most sensitive, and informational books I have read about trans characters. I have had little knowledge regarding transitions and my knowledge base was doubled or tripled, adding more understanding of other LGBTQ+ designations on the spectrum, and introducing me to QPR, a relationship that made perfect sense, but one I had never heard about. All of the new information I learned was presented so naturally in the context of the story. I had a very positive feeling at the end of the book for all of these characters, and where they were going in their lives. I am so glad I read it, and I can recommend it without reservations. I don’t know how anyone could dislike this book or these characters, and not have a smile on their face at the end.

Brad knew there was something familiar about Finn, and he was so pleased when the feelings from long ago were still there, just as strong, and at the right time for them. They were both at a time in their lives now where the two just fit together, and Brad was romantic enough to take advantage of their time together to make Finn feel seen and beautiful and loved.
I could identify with them going through Chloe’s mother’s things and finding the Polaroid camera. It was such a coincidence, as I had recently found one just a few days ago while going through some things, and it still worked. I loved how they were able to make more memories at the reunion with their own photo shoots, especially the ones Brad took of Finn and how hw incorporated them into the yearbook.
This is one of the most sensitive, and informational books I have read about trans characters. I have had little knowledge regarding transitions and my knowledge base was doubled or tripled, adding more understanding of other LGBTQ+ designations on the spectrum, and introducing me to QPR, a relationship that made perfect sense, but one I had never heard about. All of the new information I learned was presented so naturally in the context of the story. I had a very positive feeling at the end of the book for all of these characters, and where they were going in their lives. I am so glad I read it, and I can recommend it without reservations. I don’t know how anyone could dislike this book or these characters, and not have a smile on their face at the end.

This feels like a really special book. It has all the flavors and colors of the LGBTQIA+ rainbow. This book doesn't just cover romantic love but it also does a beautiful job of showing platonic love as well and I don't think its talked about enough. This books makes you think and In the end there's so many ways to love a person. In this book though Finn and Brad are both reunited for a high school reunion. Both were best friends along with their little friend group back in high school expect Finn wasn't Finn back then but a cheerleader who didn't feel like they belonged unless they were with their best friends. They felt different than other people and one kiss with Brad during a game of spin the bottle leads Finn closer to the person he feels like he can be. But he doesn't want to explain or come out to everyone at the reunion so him and his best friend forever Chloe decide that Finn will play as her boyfriend for the weekend so the pressure is a bit less. But what he doesn't expect is to be hit on by Brad when they see each other at a bar. Back in high school Brad wasn't out as bisexual because he didn't know what he was yet but years away from high school and life experience allow him to now live that truth. Both men had a connection back in high school that didn't get a chance to really go anywhere as both of them weren't in the right state of mind for anything serious as well as them being young and still figuring themselves out. But when Finn explains who he is and Brad is still interested it seems like they may get their second chance after all. This book is a bit fast paced as a lot of the plot and development happen over a weekend but the timeline doesn't make what Finn and Brad are feeling for each other any less real. If anything their history as well as the connection they share amplify their feelings and make it feel almost inevitable. I loved the trans rep in this book and even in their spice you get a very real sort of understanding about how Finn lives his life as a FTM Trans man. The spice was so steamy yet vulnerable because Finn really has to trust Brad since he hasn't had the best luck with hook ups but Brad makes Finn feel seen and beautiful and desired. All the things he's always wanted but never found. They were so sweet together and the group of found family they created warms the heart. This is my first time learning about QPR and I absolutely adore what that kind of relationship stands for. This was just overall an amazing read about love, acceptance, and finding yourself and not letting anyone define the way you're supposed to love a person. So sit back and dive in to Brad and Finn and how they found each other again but also read the short story at the end of the book for more about Finn, Brad, Chloe and the other parts of their found family.

Finn was under his skin, like an itch he shouldn’t scratch… but desperately wanted to.
Brad was the captain of the football team, and Finn was co-captain of the cheerleading squad, and they were part of the same friend group. But they lost touch after high school, and now they’re back in Gomillion for their 20th reunion. Finn looks nothing like he did when Brad knew him back then, but once Brad realizes who Finn is, they quickly rekindle their friendship, which begins to morph into a romantic connection. But a lot has changed since high school, and they have a lot to figure out if they hope to build a future together.
There were so many moments he could ask about, so much shared history they could parse through and analyze. Had it always been leading to this moment? To Brad, holding Finn in his arms, unwilling to ever let go?
This was such a nice story! I think many of us have those friends with whom we were once inseparable, but time and space take us in different directions. Yet when you finally reconnect with them, it’s like no time has passed. That’s exactly how it felt seeing Brad, Finn, and their other best friend, Chloe, reunite. I loved all their reminiscing and the warm, nostalgic feeling it gave me. They clearly had a special bond, and I loved seeing the three of them rekindle that over the course of the weekend and then into the future as the book finished. I really loved the focus on the queer platonic relationships beyond just the romantic pairing of Brad and Finn. It’s not something you see much in romance novels, but it was refreshing!
There was a lot of fantastic rep in this book, including the trans rep. Finn’s transition and coming out to Brad when they reconnect were handled with such care. I love that it was really a non-factor for Brad, as far as he was concerned, Finn was the same friend he knew and loved back then. But as they started a physical relationship, Brad was also so good about seeking to understand what Finn wanted or might need now. The communication between them was great, and as a result, the sex scenes were super hot but also realistic.
Things happened fast between them, but they had so much history between them that it sort of felt inevitable that they’d end up where they did. Their journey was not without a few hiccups, but I loved how it all worked out, and I loved the epilogue; it was a great ending for this wonderful found family. I look forward to reading the bonus story from Chloe’s POV and spending a little more time with these characters!
It felt like they’d finally come full circle, coming back into each other’s lives, right when they were supposed to.

Everything of DC's I've read so far I've thoroughly enjoyed, their characters always feel so real and they have a lot of depth to them. Brad, Finn, Chloe, and Christian are no exception, they are a fantastic group of characters and I absolutely loved going on this journey with them.
Brad is a thoughtful and kind person, he's always trying to do things for others without thinking much about what he wants. When he starts reconnecting with his closest friends from his High School days, he starts realizing that he hasn't fought for anything for himself, only for others, until now. Not until he reconnected with Finn.
Finn and Brad are so sweet together, they have their bumps here and there but they prioritize communication which I LOVED. Both of these men floundered a bit in the beginning, but gradually they learned each others quirks and how to best navigate difficult situations and topics. I really appreciate how DC made this a lighthearted Queer story while also making sure it's still realistic and a bit gritty. Several of the Queer characters within this story have struggled with other people's vicious remarks and cruel judgement, but the story itself made me so happy to read it.
I also really enjoyed the banter and dialogue that occured between all of these characters, I was smiling the whole time while reading this book. Well, almost the whole time, when Brad spiraled, and also had a tough conversation with his mom, that made me tear up a bit.
Something I also want to highlight is how DC wrote about QPR's, (Queer Platonic Relationship), you don't often see those being written about and I love that they did. Even though Brad was unfamiliar with both the term, and the concept, he openly accepted both and ended up finding himself within a QPR of his own with Chloe and Christian. I loved the ending! Brad & Finn is part of the new Gomillion High Reunion series, a multi-author collaboration centered around the 20th year reunion of former classmates in a charming small town.
It is a second-chance MM romance between a trans masculine former cheerleader and the former quarterback. Brad and Finn’s story was so achingly sweet and delightfully spicy! After a life-altering kiss after senior year, and then not seeing each other for twenty years, the chemistry between these men is still off the charts. Their easy banter and sizzling heat had me giggling and kicking my feet throughout the whole book.
In addition to this book having incredible trans masc rep, I really appreciated the ace/aro rep from the supporting cast. You don’t see a lot of ace rep in romance books that isn’t just an offhanded comment about a side character. But this was such a breath of fresh air! I especially loved the description and inclusion of the QPR (queer platonic relationship) dynamic. By the epilogue, I was blown away with not just the loving romantic relationship between Brad and Finn, but also the beautiful found family between our MMCs and the supporting cast.
This is a story that is going to sit with me for a while. As someone that has always identified as queer, had trans partners and friends, and has been going through my own gender identity moment, this book really resonated with me. I saw a lot of myself and other loved ones reflected in the characters of this story.
Overall, I can’t recommend this book enough! It was so fun getting glimpses of the other characters during this book, so I’m looking forward to reading the other stories in this series.

I am very happy right now, and it's all because of this lovely book that filled me with so many bright feelings. This is one of those books you read with a smile, it's sitting on the front porch on a lazy sunny weekend morning.
This is a low angst contemporary romance between highschool best friends who reconnect at their highschool reunion weekend. Sparks fly immediately, especially from Brad, the former football player, and I enjoyed the way he fell flat on his metaphorical face enamored with Finn.
There are some inevitable mishaps as the two get to know each other as adults - Finn has transitioned and both are different people than they were in high school. That being said, they are still the same best friends at their core which is obvious in their easy and affectionate interactions. I loved Brad and how obviously in love with Finn he was, then how seamlessly he slid right back in with Finn and Chloe (their other bff from high school). I also just really loved the QPR (queer plantic relationship) representation. Chloe, Christian, Finn, and Brad are clearly meant to live life together and they're the commune of people who love each other not always romantically but just as deeply I've always wanted in my life 😅
So I loved every part of this book, from the sweet romantic love story to the equally as sweet friendship loves. I can't wait for Atlas and Miles and their story!

AMAZING!!! I loved this book SO much -- an instant favorite. This whole book spoke to me so much I could sob, except it's not a sad book at all and was very happy and fun to read. I know I will be rereading this one -- probably pretty soon -- and I'm crossing my fingers it gets an audio someday because I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
The trans rep was *so good*. The dilemma of how to handle seeing a bunch of people who used to be in your life is such a trans experience, and the book handled it so well. I related to a lot of the choices Finn made. The spice was really well done too -- the discussion of names for parts, toys, etc felt authentic and Brad reacted so well at every point. Also, I love that the author navigated the entire book without deadnaming Finn once, that was amazing.
The combination of an mm romance with an already established QPR was everything I didn't know I needed. I loved Finn and Chloe's friendship, and I love how smoothly Brad fit (back) in with them. The epilogue was wonderful and makes me want an entire book about Brad + Finn + Chloe + Christian.
Also!! How could I forget the awesome ADHD rep!! It’s not a huge part of the book, but Finn has adhd, and talks about executive dysfunction and how it makes him pissy sometimes, and how being perceived as female as a kid was part of why he didn’t get diagnosed until adulthood (which is a serious problem in the world of psychology!!)

This is a very cute reunion story (in more ways than one)! Given that I am myself debating whether to attend my own 20th high school reunion, this entire series is one I am intrigued by (even though I am confident I will not find romance with any of my previous classmates).
Finn and Brad had a connection back in high school, and even shared a kiss near graduation. However, in the 20 years since then, they have drifted apart, and Finn is not he person he was in high school, as he is a trans man. However, he finds himself back in his hometown for his 20th reunion with his best friend, and reconnects with Brad.
I will confess to not being a big instalove person, and with this book taking place largely over one weekend it definitely gives off those vibes. However, there was enough of a previous connection and it was done realistically enough that I was willing to go along for the ride. Brad and Finn were very cute together, obviously immediately smitten with each other. And I loved all the side characters, and the additional representation they gave (especially Chloe and her queerplatonic relationship, as that is something that is not represented often in books, and it deserves to be seen and valued for what it is!).
The "conflict" was a little silly, but at least it was short-lived and appropriately handled. Overall, this is a great trans romance with some vague "second chance" vibes, and I'm definitely intrigued by the rest of the series!

This was an easy read that left me with a smile on my face. Everything from the friendship between Chloe and Finn, to their reuniting with Brad, and the budding relationship between Brad and Finn was beautifully written.
Brad is back in town for his high school reunion by choice, while Finn is there by the force of nature that is his best friend Chloe. After reconnecting, the deep friendship that Brad and Finn always had is still there after all these years. I was so happy to see that Brad finally recognized that Finn has always been his person and that maybe for once he should make himself happy instead of trying to please everyone else.
I love that strong friendships were also a huge theme throughout the book. Between Finn, Chloe and Kendall, who have been ride or die since high school - even though we don’t meet Kendall in this book; Chloe and Finn reviving their friendship with Brad; and especially Christian, Chloe and Finn welcoming Brad into their fold of friendship, their found family is the sweetest!
After reading this book, I can’t wait to see Miles and Atlas in a future book, and I can’t wait to meet the rest of the characters in this series!

I already adore D.C. Emerson's writing and previous books so though I'm not usually a fan of reunion stories, I had to pick this one up anyway and I am so glad that I did.
Brad goes back to Gomillion's school reunion to see old friends that he lost touch with and also celebrate his promotion to his dream job with his mom, whom he is close to. Finn agrees to go with his best friend Chloe to help her pack up her mom's house, and she ends up convincing him to go to the reunion as well, pretending to be Chloe's boyfriend.
This story was so very sweet and at times emotional. I wanted to wrap all the characters in the biggest hug that you can imagine. Finn had a lot of anxiety around the reunion for obvious reasons and letting Brad back into his life, and Brad is a pathological people pleaser to the point where it's hurting him, so both men had things that had to work through but you couldn't help but want to root for them.
I also absolutely ADORED Chloe, whose love for her friends shines so much in this story. Would love to have a whole story revolving around her.
Overall, I absolutely LOVED this story and will be checking out more in this series from the other authors as well.

This was my first encounter with this author and the first time I'd read a story with a trans main character. I'm glad I got to find this kind of representation in a book. I thought the writing style was very good and it was a very quick read for me. Finn and Brad were very likeable characters. It was interesting to see them meet for a school reunion and reconnect after the changes in their lives. Although I think the attraction between the characters was captured very well, I had a problem with the fact that they went from reuniting to planning their future together in just a few days. I understand they knew each other in high school, but after so many years without contact, I felt their relationship progressed too quickly. However, that didn't stop me from appreciating the story. I think Finn was a sweetheart and deserved a happy ending like no other. Brad, who always aimed to please others, saw the importance of taking care of his own needs before attending to others. Together, they supported each other and discussed their needs. That's what a true relationship is all about.

I received this book as an ARC copy, but this is my honest opinion.
I really, really enjoyed this book and had so much fun reading it. It gave me the vibes of a small-town high school show, just queer – and I’m absolutely here for it.
It’s about Finn and Brad, who were best friends in high school and meet again decades later at their high school reunion. I adored them together and loved how their struggles were portrayed.
My only issue – which isn’t even that big – is that it felt a bit fast-paced. It had that insta-lust/love vibe. It kind of worked since they knew each other decades ago, but I’m personally not a fan of insta-love, so that’s just a me thing.
Another reason why this was a 3.5/4 stars instead of a full 5 is that, although we’re told they were best friends, I didn’t feel much of that friendship. Not in the present, and not really when they talked about their past in high school.

I like books that introduce to me to new things. In Brad & Finn, I learned a new word - shenaniganry, and what a high school reunion might be like. Both sound fun.
I feel like this story took me on an adventure. Brad went home hoping to reconnect with some old friends. Finn went back with Chloe to keep her company. Neither of them expected to come out to each other and their friends or start a relationship.
I love the idea of rebuilding old friendships. If something beautiful happens that’s even better. My favorite part of the book is the promposal by Finn and the dance on the field. It was a WHOLE thing with Chloe and the gang. The way D.C. Emerson wrote Brad brought me to tears. He put so much pressure on himself to be the perfect son. Finn had to work so hard just to be Finn. The author melds the past and adds in new feelings to create a slightly angsty, fun, romantic read. While it is a stand alone, I plan to read the rest of the series just to find the ins and outs of the friendships like Atlas and Miles and Ethan. D. C. Emerson is quickly becoming one of my authors to keep an eye out for.

While it is a stand alone, I plan to read the rest of the series just to find the ins and outs of the friendships like Atlas and Miles and Ethan. D. C. Emerson is quickly becoming one of my authors to keep an eye out for.

What I couldn’t understand regarding the trans identity of Finn was his old name was never mentioned not even in the yearbook but other than that it was a very sweet, emotional story about finding your perfect person and found family!

This is a book that is highly educational. That was truly the best aspect of the book but built around a 20th reunion and individual stories.
Finn was a cheerleader in high school while Brad was the star football player and they got along then and had a memorable kiss. When they meet in a bar the night prior to the 20th reunion of their class, Brad notices something in Finn but can't place it. Eventually Finn admits to being trans and is now a man.
Learning about the secret did not deter Brad. Chloe, the chief cheerleader in high school had brought Finn as her date but we learn Chloe is in a relationship with Christian that I have never seen explained before in a novel and Finn is often with Chloe and Christian in Indianapolis. As the book concludes, Brad and the other three make great friends and Finn and Brad are truly a couple.
Because of volunteering as Board member of social service not-for-profit, I had been exposed to various people on the sexuality continuum but this book is much needed for those not familiar with how relationships with an individual's sexuality and partners exists.

I will start by saying I received this book as an ARC, but this is my honest review.
I liked this story and it kept me reading to see how everything all played out. There is a lot in this book and a lot of characters, sometimes it feels like too many characters.
I liked both Brad and Finn as people and I felt like they would be good together. I liked the different representations (sexual identities and gender identities) of all the characters in the story.
I was really enjoying reading the story and then the 'big problem' came. You know the obstacle or break up that happens so the 2 cannot be together. I was sad to see the one that did this was Brad, I thought he was stronger than that.
I will say, spoiler, that there is a happy ending and it took all the side characters help to bring the couple back together. There is also an Epilogue with a time jump and info dump. I would definitely be interested in ready other stories about the other characters in this book.
I recommend this book and this author. I have read stories by them before.

Brad appreciated more than he could express that Finn was being so open with him and wasn’t holding pieces of himself or his transness back. - Brad

Brad and Finn see each other after 20 years because of the school reunion. Brad hadn't been keeping up with his friends from high school, but Finn has. Chloe and Kendall are still Finn's best friends and have helped him during his transition. Brad is so incredibly sweet and gentle with Finn. I really love that he wanted Finn to decide the pacing. Friendship is so important in this book. Chloe would do everything to protect Finn. Brad has a hard time thinking about himself and what he wants; it's time to put himself first, and the conversations with his lovely mom and friends helped him realize that. It's a heartwarming story. A lot has changed in 20 years, but they still have the connection from then, but it's just stronger now.

Friendship and found family are very important for Chloe; she wants Brad and Finn to be happy, but it also shows that Chloe and her found family are so intertwined in each other's lives that they feel like there is a part of them missing when they aren't together. I love that there is not only a POV from Chloe about the school reunion, where Brad & Finn reconnect but that they also made sure to include Christian in this event. This also goes further than the book "Brad & Finn." It gives her side of the story, and it shows how much Christian cares about them all as well. They are stronger when they are together. They know exactly how to help each other, and there is just so much love! This is a dream family!

This is a story about Finn and Brad Willson, high school acquaintances who reconnect after more than twenty years at a class reunion. Finn is back in his hometown reluctantly, but is drawn to the former football captain, Brad, whom he shared a kiss with after graduation. Finn worries that Brad won't recognize him, as he has since transitioned and is finally living as the man he always knew he was. Brad is back in town to celebrate with friends, but his demanding career as a college football recruiter has left him feeling lonely and questioning his life choices. He is immediately captivated by Finn, a "gorgeous guy" he meets at the bar.
I enjoyed this story with the two men who had a shared history but had changed after high school (especially Finn) and how they reconnected. There was a lot of heart searching and unpicking of emotions and feelings as they worked through everything together and in conjunction with their friends and family. Easy to feel and understand. This was an M/FTM story with mature content.

This book is part of a much larger series set at a high school reunion, all written by different authors. They are all standalone books, so I didn't feel like I was missing anything by just reading this.
First thing I enjoyed, these characters are in their late 30s. There are so many stories with younger characters, it's nice to read some with characters with a little more life experience and different points of view.
Brad is coming home with a new promotion as a college coach. It's been sometime since he's been in a relationship and isn't really looking. He sees his high school friend Chloe and her date, Finn. He is instantly smitten by Finn, not realising that Finn had gone to school with him too and he knew him, pre-transition.
I really enjoyed that once Brad knew that Finn was trans he never questioned his interest and his worries about their relationship were about distance and his job.
It's a sweet story with two very likeable leads and great supporting characters. There's great laughs and some emotional moments.
It's a great story about coming home and finding yourself.

Brad & Finn is DC Emerson's contribution to the multiauthor series Gomillion High Reunion. It's a sweet, low angst, second chance story between Finn, who never planned to attend the reunion, and Brad who was mostly looking forward to it. Anyone who has turned down reunion invites will understand their feelings. Finn was a trans man locked in a woman's body. School was difficult, an undiagnosed ADHD diagnosis not helping. Brad was the football captain to Finn's cheerleader. And they shared a kiss.
It's best friends reuniting and discovering that despite changes and growth over 20 years, they're still the same. An absolutely wonderful and fun read. Memories, happy and sad. Acceptance and support from found family. This was a cheerful and fun read.

This was a very sweet story. Brad and Finn were besties in HS but never got together as Brad was in an on-again off-again relationship, one he wasn’t fully invested in but made him unavailable for a romantic relationship with Finn at the time. This may have been for the best given Finn’s confusion surrounding his gender (though I like to think they’d have made it work either way).
They meet again after 20 years and I liked the way this scene was set up with Brad being attracted to Finn despite not knowing who he is. It doesn’t take much for them to reconnect and become besties, and a bit more, again. There’s a bit of angst from Brad due to some familial responsibility he’s always felt but with a little intervention from Chloe and his mom, it’s pretty clear they’re meant to be together.
I’ve never heard of a QPR before and I’m so happy I know what it is now and love how happy everyone is in the epilogue, the dynamics are *goals*.
