Jennifer Chance’s Rule Breakers series turns up the heat as a wealthy playboy and a beautiful con artist engage in a high-stakes game of seduction.

As dominating in business as he is in bed, Rand Sterling Winston IV always gets what he wants. And even before he realizes that she’s scammed him into paying triple the cost for her friend’s painting, he wants Dani Michaels. To catch her alone, Rand demands that she personally deliver his purchase. The attraction between them is immediate and electric, and he knows she feels it, too. So when the part-time petty thief rebuffs his advances, he gives her a a night in jail or an evening with him.

Despite her checkered past, Dani has never met someone like brooding, intense, and oh so tempting. Only a man with a broken soul could make control feel this dangerous. Still, when Rand proposes a no-strings, no-holds-barred affair, Dani’s more than a little intrigued. It’ll be the trickiest con she’s ever run and a chance to indulge her steamiest fantasies—nothing more. But as their encounters grow increasingly intimate, Dani uncovers a vulnerable side to Rand’s steely exterior and opens her heart to the ultimate risk.

One of a few books where I got swayed by the gorgeous cover and it ended up biting me in the ass.

I'm going to keep it short because I have no time nor the energy to do a full review. But basically it all came down to...

- My lack of connection to the characters
- Too much inner monologue
- No build up when it comes to the romance
- Unlikable characters

It was too much for me to take on. Reading fiction is supposed to be fun and effortless. This wasn't fun or effortless. So a big fat DNF for me.

This is the fourth book in the Rule Breakers series, but can be read as a Standalone. It is a fun, intriguing, sexy read about two different people coming together in a spark of chemistry and pushing each other to their limits.

Dani is a con artist who grew up rough. She follows no ones rules but her own, and lives life in the moment, rather than letting past regrets put her down. Rand, Mr. Richie Rich, is an in control business man, used to getting what he wants. After Dani con's him into buying one of her friends paintings, Rand decides she is what he wants. But he'll have to work a little harder than usual to get what he wants this time.
"I would like to see you again, Dani. Tonight. Tomorrow. Next week."
"Well, um, thank you, I guess. But no thank you."

I really liked Dani's character and how tough she was. She didn't let anything or anyone stop her from going after what she wanted. Behind her tough exterior, though, she had a soft, kind side to her and wanted to protect the people close to her.

Rand was the perfect mix of possessive Alpha and caring guy. He surprised me throughout the book and turned out to be more than just another rich guy using his money to get what he wanted. Not growing up with the best of childhoods, he was constantly working to move forward from the past, and it was great to see how he strove to succeed each day.

I did feel there were some minor issues not resolved by the end of the book but overall this was a great read and I will be looking forward to more from the author.

I’m keeping this review short. As much as I appreciated the premise, this book didn’t live up to my expectations. I never understand what motivated the characters other than their desire to one-up each other. As a result, I never connected with Dani or Rand. However, the writing was decent and the bedroom scenes were on the steamy side.

Although Risk It is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone.

I really wanted to like this book and it started out so promising but I had such a hard time liking these characters or even understanding the connection between them. Rand just comes across as a huge ass for most of the book. When the hero is still looking to hook up with other women at 66% into the book, I know that the story is not for me. I did like all the steamy sex scenes though so this wasn't a total loss for me. I would read more by this author in the future, this book just wasn't for me.

We already met Dani in the previous books....and now we hear her story. You don't NEED to have read the last three books to understand Dani's story, but why would you want to miss those sexy Rockers, Bikers & Army Rangers finding their HEA with Dani's roommates!!?!?!?! ☺☺

Dani's at her friend and roommate Erin's gallery showing, when she sees this cute rich guy. She uses her con-artist-talents to make him buy a painting for way more than the asked price.

Rand Sterling Winston THE FOURTH!

He obviously knows he's been conned....but he's also intrigued by this beautiful girl.

That's why he asks the gallery to have her deliver the painting to his office....

That's where it all starts...

Rand wants Dani to have dinner with him....

She declines - and he says he'll have her arrested... and he really follows through on that threat...

But what he didn't expect - Dani chooses being arrested over having dinner with him.☺

But of course that's not the last they've seen of each other...

Rand tries to find out everything about Dani and he plans another meeting....at her workplace.

And then he makes another offer - an offer she can't refuse, because she needs to help her brother - who seems to be in some kind of trouble...

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO DANi & RAND???
WiLL THERE BE A HEA???
OR WiLL ALL THOSE DEALS & CONS BE TOO MUCH FOR THEM??
WiLL THERE BE A CLiFFHANGER???

Nope . . . I'm not telling you ☺

Slick's review posted at Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

After loving the first two books in this series and enjoying the third I was severely disappointed in this installment in the Rule Breakers series by Jennifer Chance. This is one of those books that I didn't connect with either of the main characters nor did I feel like they really connected with each other and there were many side storylines that not only interfered with the so called romance in this story but many were left unresolved or at the very least left me with many unanswered questions.

Dani Michaels is a con woman who works part time as a bartender and spends the rest of her time doing odd "jobs" for her friend and boss, mind you these are jobs that could get her arrested and put away for awhile. She enjoys the con and so on a night when her friend and land lady is having an art show she sets her sites on conning Rand Sterling Winston IV and succeeds in not only parting him with his money for one of her friends paintings but putting herself in his sights.

These two come to an agreement that she will spend time with him at his request with no sexual favors unless she feels like it for a sum of money that she needs to help her foster brother out. I think at this point we were supposed to feel all this sexual tension between them but all I felt was sad that she felt she had to basically sell herself to help someone she loves and pity that he felt he had to buy her time. They both thought they were playing this game where they would get the better of each other all the while uncovering each other's deep dark secrets. I have to say this was pretty much the whole story and it was just a pathetic mess and I had to force myself to finish this story.

Throughout it we were treated to small snippets of information about their lives with tales of beatings, humiliating punishments and fears but even these did nothing to make me like these characters that seemed hell bent on "winning" at the expense of the other. Sorry, this isn't romance folks this is just a twisted game. Add into that the BDSM scenes that were not well orchestrated and seemed wholly out of place and the unanswered questions of why both of these two seem to be at the beck and call of people that they obviously feel they owe something to and you have a book with even more problems.

As much as I loved the first two books in this series and even really liked the third book this one is just a mess from start to finish and the only reason I did finish it is because I kept thinking there would be a point to all of it but sadly there wasn't and it just fell completely flat.

Sadly, this just didn't work for me. Rand wants Dani cause she's a challenge and she conned him when they first met? Dani wants Rand cause he has money that she needs? They kept trying to one up the other and it drove me crazy. On the upside, the love scenes were hot ;)

I received an advanced readers copy of this book from Loveswept in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!

This book is pure entertainment and it is best to dive into it with that in mind. If you dig deep and dissect it you will find all kinds of things morally wrong and somewhat dysfunctional about it. Don't do that. If you go into it hoping to be entertained it will leave you satisfied.

There is some definite heat in this book. If you are looking for pages filled with hot and steamy passages set in unconventional places you don't need to look any further. This book has it covered. There is a definite sexual chemistry between Dani and Rand from the moment they meet and the reader does not need to wait long for them to act on it. I must admit that I could feel the sexual chemistry a lot more than the emotional chemistry but it is not to say that it wasn't there.

Dani is a con artist and thief and that is where the moral part of my brain kicks in a little bit. Although the book explains why she does the things she does, I do feel like it is glorified ever so slightly. She doesn't apologies or have any remorse for the things that she does and Rand is willingly drawn into it. Both of them have really dysfunctional pasts that are hit on a little bit but I really would have liked more. This is perhaps the reason that the two were always trying to "one up" or win against the other. It is also to say that their relationship starts in a less than normal fashion that could leave some people shaking their heads.

In the end it was a sexy and entertaining read that is best enjoyed for the steamy parts and without over-thinking. This was the second book by this author for me and I am sure it won't be the last.

3.5-4 stars

This was a pretty good story. I liked both Dani and Rand and enjoyed their story. FYI, there are blindfolds, bondage and a bit of spanking in the story.

Dani is a bartender that does "odd jobs" on the side that aren't always legally acceptable. She grew up in the Foster care system and learned to get by and get what she needed through cons or theft. A Foster brother, Jimmie, is the only family she has.

Rand is the son of a rich blue-blood that abused him most of his life for things he had no control over. Rand's mother died in childbirth and the only family that ever treated him well was his grandparents. Rand has taken over the family business (much to his father's chagrin) and is doing well at running it. He tries to get sucked into his family's affairs as little as possible.

Dani is at an art gallery where her friend and roommate, Erin, is having a showing of her work. Dani sees Rand there and decides he'd make the perfect mark for a con. She basically convinces him to buy a painting he had no intention of buying and for 3 times the price. When Rand realises what happened, he demands that Dan be the one to deliver the painting. When she does they get into a verbal sparing match in which they both try to get the upper hand over the other. Dani wins but this makes Rand even more determined to get more of Dani. He backs off temporarily while making his plans to go in for the kill.

Rand ends up lucking out because Dani finds out that Jimmie needs financial help for some problems. When Rand decides to proposition Dani, it helps that she needs the money for someone she cares about. She wants to take Rand up on his offer anyways but she's afraid of his ability to get to her and knows it's safest to stay far away from him. When Rand offers money to help in exchange for her spending time with him for a month(sex not required), Dani accepts. They both are affected much more by their arrangement than either expected and it's an interesting ride for them both. There are issues to get past on both sides (but mostly for Dani) but when their arrangement ends, Dani and Rand admit their feelings and start a true relationship that (hopefully) is heading to a HEA.

This was a pretty enjoyable story. Dani was rather hard and guarded but considering her childhood and all it was understandable. Rand I liked...he had the thought to treat this all as a temporary thing and just was playing the game the same as Dani, but I like that when push came to shove Rand was willing to make the effort and try for something more between them. My main complaint about this story is that we very little of the story with Rand and Dani as an actual couple (that aren't constantly holding something back). Overall though, I liked the characters and most of my complaints are small so I'd still recommend it. :D

As the last book in the Rule Breakers series, this one was THE BEST and it can be read as a stand alone. I recommend this book to my friends who like heroines who are strong, wild, smart, and slightly on the wrong side of the law. Toss in the hot billionaire (I have a weak spot for those – call me easy) and I ran through this book as fast as my tired eyes let me. Please say I have you intrigued. If not, keep reading… or just keep reading anyways.

Rand Sterling Winston IV – sounds pretentious, doesn’t it? I really thought I was going to have a hard time reading a romance where the hot guy’s name was “Rand”. But I had read the teaser chapter for Risk It in the previous book and nothing was going to stop me from reading this story. Rand’s first name could have been “Toilet” and somehow, someway he still would have made me forget his horrible name. The man was sex in a suit and commanded a room when he entered his first scene. He made the perfect “mark” for our petty thief, Dani.

Dani, looking to both have fun at a snobby, rich guy’s expense and make some money for her friend, manages to sell a painting to Rand at three times it’s value. Call it predictable, call it an over-used story plot, but the game is on between Rand and Dani on who can one up the other.

What makes this book different than all the other stories of games between lovers are the characters. I think you have a good idea about Rand. And there is even more to his controlling personality. But Dani is the one I loved the most. She is absolutely brilliant in her loyalty to family and friends. She’s cunning yet vulnerable. It’s the vulnerable side of her that you see sneak out as the story progresses to the end. Will Dani or won’t she? Will they or won’t they? Those are the questions!

The story goes fast and at only around 217 “epages”, it will be a quick page turner. I don’t remember ever being bored and the ending came way too quickly for my liking. I really enjoyed the depth to this story (it isn’t always just about romance, you know) and I wanted more! But the way the story was, I think it was fantastic just the way it was written; the perfect ending to the series.

This is the fourth book in the Rule Breakers series and can absolutely be read as a stand alone . I have truly enjoyed this series, in previous books you have met Dani , but nothing that detracts from this story.
Dani, is a con artist and very good a it , but she is trying to go straight, she has come to appreciate her finds and new life, but the urge to get her freind a higher sale price for her art finds dani running a con on Rand Sterling Winston IV.
Rand however is not naive he pays the exorbitant sum, just to leverage more time with Dani. Rand generally gets what he wants money and the power it yields sees to that and Dani is someone he wants, so for the sale to be final she has to deliver it in person to him.
Dani tries to get out if it , but eventually yields and it lands her in his very fancy office with lots of beautiful art and small easy to pocket peices, just mor temptation for Dani which she can not resist; unfortunately for her Rand catches her at it, he offers her a get out of jail free card, dinner with him, she chooses jail because when you come from her past; jail is safer than possibly risking your heart.

Rand however keeps chasing Dani appealing to her greedy side offering her a high sum of money to be his for the month( yes I thought it too " Pretty Women"). Given that Dani is looking to help out her stepbrother, the only Edson she really loves to get out of debt she agrees to Rand's offer, but the challenge will be protecting her heart along the way! These two however both have pretty bad pasts and each are guarded but they eventually both start to break through to each other and along the way the reader gets lots of sexy scenes peppered with some light Bdsm.
Will these two get an HEA like the rest of Dani's friends well .... You are just going to have to read for yourself.

This is the fourth book in the Rule Breakers series, and could be read as a standalone. Though you really should read the first three.

We have briefly met Dani in the previous books, but we never learned much about her, but now it is all coming to the fore.

She's a grifter, always on for the con. The only person she truly loves in her life is her foster brother Jimmy. They have had a really shitty start to life, and just when she thinks things are starting to get better....

Rand Sterling Winston IV - phew, that is a mouthful (that's what she said lol),sexy "Richie Rich" doesn't chase women - why would he when they fall all over themselves to get to him. But his interest is piqued the first time she meets Dani, and even more so when she tells him no.

Rand and Dani circle each other, like lions circling their prey. We all know that secrets never did a relationship any good, but there are secrets on both sides. Neither of them wants to lose "the game" and at times it felt like they were never going to get anywhere.

I don't know what it was, I just couldn't seem to really warm up to either Rand or Dani, and thinking about it a day later, I still can't put my finger on what it was. While the sexual chemistry between them was smoking, sometimes I just did not feel the emotional connection.

This was not a predictable storyline. There were some parts I was sure I knew what was going on then BAM - we were taken in a whole different direction.

I like Ms Chances' writing and am now waiting to see what she brings us next.

**3.5 Fiery Hearts!**

*I received this book free from NetGalley on behalf of Random House Publishing Group – Loveswept in exchange for an honest review*

Dani learned the skills necessary to get through life and she’s good at what she does, whether it’s tending bar, a little B&E, or pulling a con over an unexpecting victim. When her mark turns out to be the one pulling the strings she will do what she needs to get what she wants.

Rand likes to get his way and does not like to be played the fool. He knew what Dani was way before he knew who she was. He could see the fire in her eyes and the determination and strength she used in all things. She was something new and he couldn’t let her escape without getting what he wanted…only thing is…what did he truly want?

Risk It is a giant con where the playing field is so evenly matched that the power sways back and forth between two alpha characters. Rand and Dani both fight for that power, until they realize that all that power struggle was more than it should have been and lines were pushed further than imaginable.

It has a good storyline. There are some parts where it kind of droned on and I lost interest, but overall it was a good read. There is however a lot of sex, some detailed, some not so much, but nevertheless there’s a lot.

My Favorite Laughable Moment: It’s amazing how a little trinket can set off alarms and summon the police.

My Favorite Moment: I loved it when Dani stood up to Catherine and mentioned how she could still borrow Rand whenever she needed an escort.

ARC REVIEW

Risk It by Jennifer Chance is book four in her Rule Breakers series; I have read one other book in this series I really liked Fake It unfortunately this one fell flat. It was hot, steamy hot erotica but I could not connect to the characters and the storyline was blah. It had a Pretty Woman type story rich man buys beautiful woman for a month of "friendship" where she has to do whatever he say no hesitation, with only one use of the word no.

Dani outwitted Rand out of ten thousand dollars for a painting by her friend a relatively unknown artist. Rand is suddenly obsessed with her and they start a game of sorts where they are trying to outwit each other until Rand propositions Dani money for her time, sex not required. Dani's foster brother is in trouble and only accepts Rands proposal to help her brother out. There is an instant attraction between them and they are not shy about starting a sexual relationship, but Rand starts to push her boundaries which any good Dom does but when she finally says no he is bound and determined to find out why this and break through that boundary, no matter what. Dani is scared by how this is progressing and when Rand asks for a real relationship she calls it quits especially since Rand had succeeded in breaking through her emotional block.

This is a sex-into-love story that contains elements of the movie Pretty Woman as well as just a touch of Fifty Shades, wrapped around a story of two scarred child abuse survivors finding each other and finding a love that neither of them expected to experience. Dani Michaels cons Rand Sterling Winston IV into buying her best friend’s art for 3 times its value, involving both herself and Rand in a contest for control of their ensuing relationship. He contracts for 30 days of companionship, and plans to make her need him at all costs. She intends to emerge with enough cash to pay off her brother’s massive debts. Neither of them expects to find a kindred soul, or to fall so far in love that they each want a forever they are certain that the other cannot give.

Verdict: Recommended for lovers of the popular “marrying the billionaire” type of romance. This story of two survivors who plan to use each other and end up in love will also appeal to readers who like a lot of one-upsmanship and a high dose of relationship conflict in their love stories. It is not necessary to have read the previous books in the series for readers to get into the characters and the situation.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review. Dani Micheals is a con artist and she is good at it. Can she get what she wants when she targets mega-millionaire Rand Sterling Winston IV and escape without getting caught or losing her heart? It seems that Dani and Rand have both had a tortured childhood, although different in so many way. While Dani was raised in the system and moved from house to house, Rand was treated badly too. From his mother dying when he was born to beatings. Can they both better the other in this con or will the spark between them sizzle into a full blown fire of love. Will their past get in the way or will it keep them together? This is a great story and I loved it just as much as the rest of the series.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

Dani and Rand are a great match. Even though he is extremely wealthy and Dani is a con artist from the wrong side of the tracks they are perfectly matched. Dani and Rand challenge each other, neither of them willing to concede some imaginary defeat or wanting to appear weak. This made Risk a fun read for me because I was never sure how they were going to react to each other.

I did fell the ending of the story was a little rushed and I would have liked to have delved into Rand's past a little more but all in all, a good read.

Jennifer Chance's Risk It get a solid 3.5 stars from me. I like Rand and Dani. I like the plot of the story. I loved the writing. I think the issue for me was that I couldn't connect to the characters and get sucked in the way I do with most novels I've read. I struggled to read this story towards the middle which was odd. Maybe it is the lack of driving force between the two characters. I'm not really sure but there is a charming happy ending and a fabulous beginning.

I really wanted to like this book but I just couldn't connect to it or the characters at all. This story has potential to be a good one but it's just not there. I feel like everything was everywhere for the characters and the romance seemed rushed and unbelievable. Rand to me was completely unlikable and not in a good way, he never really seemed committed to Dani, so I just couldn't commit to him.

#4 of the Rule Breakers romance series

I'd rate this 3.5 stars if I could, but I'll have to round it down for Goodreads. The characters are the best part of this book. Dani is tough but sweet, and Rand has more in his past than he lets on. They're a good match, and I enjoyed this quick read, especially because of the hot chemistry between them. But as I thought about it, I realized that there really wasn't much of a story except for the sexual scenes between Dani and Rand. Admittedly, they were very steamy, but there wasn't enough content in between these scenes to hold the story together. There were some loose ends that didn't get resolved (even though it's the end of the series) and I definitely would have liked to know more about Dani's "work" and seen more scenes between her and Rand's family. In addition, although it's very mild, if you don't like bondage, then this story is not for you. There's a lot of power-struggle-sex involved, which made this more of a dark romance than something fun and light-hearted. A bit of a disappointing ending to this series, but I will definitely read more from this author.

This is the fourth book in the Rule Breakers series but it can be read as a stand alone. The beautiful cover of the book instantly grabs your attention and gives the reader a little snapshot of what they can expect. The two main characters although very different socially, one a rich socialite, the other a con artist, have had similar upbringings. Both abused and unwanted as children, they battle their own feelings as well as their feelings for each other.

"I would like to see you again, Dani. Tonight. Tomorrow. Next week."

"Well, um, thank you, I guess. But no thank you."

Although I want to see how the story continued, overall it was an easy read and I would definitely read more from the author.

Risk It is part of a series but it can be read as a standalone.

The book's premise could've lead to something interesting but in my opinion it didn't quite deliver.
Dani and Rand are undeniable attracted to each other but the reader has no chance of getting to know them as a couple, real or not, since most of the time they were together they just have sex and that's it. One of the few thing they have in common is their desire to one-up the other and it didn't make a lot of sense after a bit.

Fourth in the Rule Breakers romance series and revolving around Erin Connelly and her housemates. The couple focus in this very erotic installment is on Dani Michaels and R4, Rand Winston, and based in Boston.

This ARC was sent to me by NetGalley and Random House-Loveswept for an honest review.

My Take
Risk It picks up with the art opening at the Palm D'Or gallery when Dani manipulates Rule into buying one of Erin's paintings for a lot more than it's being sold for. It threw me, as being a "con artist" was not the impression I had gotten of Dani when I read Want It , 3. It's that contradiction that sent me reading even faster, as I had to know which was which even as I reveled in the clever psychological con Dani pulls on R4.

Seems though that she is blinded by her own prejudices when it comes to R4, and I loved Rand's manipulation right back, and that TENSE meeting in his office. Woooh. It's a great twist Chance has put on these two. Dani is a con artist and thief who likes to "save time", while Rand is bored and very interested in a thief who will provide him with some interest. He wants to break her.

"He lifted his brows. 'Did I just experience sexual harassment?'

Dani's smile flashed a little more broadly now. 'I do apologize, sir. I was just so swept away.'"

It's a game of power as the balance switches back and forth, tightening the sexual tension between two people each more interested in gaining the upper hand.

A touch of Indecent Proposal with a blend of Pretty Woman started a short descent into tropism that made me uncomfortable, but Chance managed a twist on this as well, and very much in keeping with Dani's need to win and be in control. It's that control that helps her come back after Catherine's nasty little barbs.

Yet another twist when the burglary Dani is supposed to pull off goes, um, astray, lol. I'll bet no burglar has ever experienced so much sexual frisson as she did that night.

That secondary conflict involving Jimmy was enough to keep me tense besides Dani and Rand's dramas, and what a relief to finally find out what traumas were afflicting him.

It will be an interesting journey into different experiences for both Dani and Rand. And we'll enjoy the ride along with them.

The Story
It may be a con, but it sets Erin's career on the fast track, and allows Dani to put one over on a fraud. Only, it seems that Rand had his own reasons for "extending the dance".

The Characters
The tattooed Dani Michaels is Erin's housemate as well as her friend. Jimmy is her foster brother, always in trouble. Lou will give him a job as a barback. A second job. Katie is his wife and they have a new baby, Nell. Erin Connelly has hooked up with her Army Ranger, Zander, from Want It .

R4 is what Anna Richardson calls him, employee shorthand for Rand Sterling Winston IV, a tycoon, playboy, and more. He's also the new head of Winston Securities to his father's dismay. Helen Pearson is his executive assistant. Ice Barbie is Catherine, his sister, the younger William's twin. His brother is campaigning to be a Massachusetts congressman. They've all been trained to hate each other and are united only in their hatred of their father, Rand Sterling Winston III.

Club Noir is…
Lou's bar where Dani works as a bartender. Shae is one of the cocktail waitresses. Lou also owns a chain of drycleaning businesses, and he sets up the burglaries that Dani commits.

Darke is a, more intimate, part of Club Curl. Mary is the bartender at the Danny Mann Pub. Marilyn Wren is a club manager at yet another place. Bill is a member of Rand's social set.

The Palm D'Or Gallery is…
…where Erin works as an assistant. It's also where she had her first art show. Miss Garrison is her boss and the owner of the gallery.

Gene and Janet Morrissey are Dani's targets that night. Matt Wallace was a bully back when Jimmy and Dani first met. Mama J was their foster mother.

The Cover and Title
The cover makes me think of a scene from the story, mmm-mmm, yeah, I think I'd Risk It too if that muscled torso were stripping off his shirt and tie for me.

4 Stars for the con artist.

The portrayal of each characters were so strong. The thirst for victory was very entertaining. And, their sexual adventures will no doubt burn you, it burned me and I'm very satisfied. Jennifer Chance once again strikes on this 4th book in the series.

And it is just so awful that the felt like it took too long and when I got to the end it felt like it was to short. Can you even feel like that?

The book was explicit and the title really do fit it. If my memory serves me right, this book is definitely far from the previous one’s in the series but same brave casts. Only this time the characters were from different worlds. Tbh, I did not feel any spark or what so ever the very first time they met. The second time none too, but I was particularly impressed with the facade Dani had going on. The third time there was something but it wasn’t much. So, I definitely did not feel any spark at all at the beginning because it seems to me that both characters were far off each others preferences. Even Rand wasn’t showing any signs if he really loves Dani.

And then I got to the end and that’s when sparks started to fly. Was it worth the wait? F–K yeah it was. This was actually a pent up read. Both characters were so driven to win which then infected me and I started scoring them. And I absolutely understand Dani and her reasons why she became the person she is because life never did came easy for her but I doubt she really do deserve Rand. I mean, given her history and all. But great things come to those who wait and Dani has waited long enough for someone to save her and sweep her of her feet (even if she doesn’t admit and even if its when she last expected it. ).

Dani got to me the most. I was so irritated by her but it was obvious her confidence is what made her appealing to Rand. She was a perfect competition for him and of course, she was willing and available just for the price, and this is also one of the reasons why I do admire her fiesty attitude, she’s so sure of winning. Really, money is everything this book could testify to that and for those who have them, like Rand, must be a Thankful motherf because not only did he get his entertainment, he also got the woman. And the woman got him. In more ways than one.

The book had a good plot but there was no Mega break up. Even at the end of the book I wasn’t sure if Dani really loves Rand but there were a few hints of her developing a crush. The way she confessed things didn’t really woe me (but thats just me always expecting big things towards the end) and I hate that that was already the end. I really really wanted more from them. Like some kind of happy moments where he proposed or something. I definitely was not satisfied with the ending but The whole book made up for it. And my oh my was their sexcapades worth the read. Every bit of it. I love them for being so adventurous.

I though the book was impressive together with its characters. Well done to the author and this definitely wouldnt be my last from her.

Risk It by Jennifer Chance
As dominating in business as he is in bed, Rand Sterling Winston IV always gets what he wants. And even before he realizes that she’s scammed him into paying triple the cost for her friend’s painting, he wants Dani Michaels. To catch her alone, Rand demands that she personally deliver his purchase. The attraction between them is immediate and electric, and he knows she feels it, too. So when the part-time petty thief rebuffs his advances, he gives her a choice: a night in jail or an evening with him.
Despite her checkered past, Dani has never met someone like Rand: brooding, intense, and oh so tempting.
This book reminded me of a lot of stories that I really like. There are elements of Fifty Shades of Grey, The Sam Jellicoe books and Crossfire Series. The characters have a lot of depth and the author really explores their motivations, their desires and their pasts.
Dani was such a fun character. Adjectives that come to mind are naughty, intelligent, and fierce. She is loyal to those she cares about, but deep down she has major trust issues and would likely have what is called emotional disorder. As a child of the foster system, she learned distrust and fear. Bonding with a fellow foster child is really the only family she has. Wickedly smart, she eschews formal education in favour of street smarts. She runs cons, burglaries and bar tending to make her living.
Rand at first seems like the typical billionaire playboy featured so often in contemporary romance novels. He is much deeper than that though. He may be wealthy and come from Boston’s elite, but he has also known a horrible childhood. He finds Dani fascinating and accepts the challenge she throws at him.
While their relationship starts out as a battle of wills – which was highly entertaining and very sexy, thankfully it progresses to a deeper level. When they are done playing games with each other, they have to deal with their pasts and the future. What works well in this book is the development of the relationship between Dani and Rand. While sex is a big part of their relationship, it isn’t the only thing they explore together. The sex scenes are explicit and very erotic. The author works to create not only a haze of lust, but also a connection between the two. Rand keeps Dani in his life by propositioning her, but it’s not a Pretty Woman scenario. Rand realizes that the only way to keep Dani around is to play by her unconventional rules.
I liked this story. It kept me guessing and wondering what would happen between these unpredictable characters. Dani was unlike most characters I read about and I really liked that. She sparks up the pages. Rand is not a stodgy businessman, rather he is passionate and clever. This book was a fun way to spend an evening!

Kind of liked the story but it had a total WTF ending

I know I usually start reviews with a synopsis of the book but in this case we are going to go in reverse and start at the end of this book. When the book ended I was genuinely confused. I thought I had read a serial without realizing it and that the book was going to be continued. This book is indeed part 4 in a series but it is a standalone. There is nothing you need to read before it and in totally crazy news, apparently nothing comes after it…Hence my WTF? Who out there has read any of my reviews? What are the two things I hate? One, tepid sex scenes (by the way, no problem with that here!) and two, abrupt endings. I hate a book that ends on a cliff that isn’t actually supposed to be a cliff and that is definitely the case here. Ok, let’s go back to the beginning.

Risk It is about Dani and Rand. Dani is a grifter from the wrong side of the tracks (where exactly are these tracks people are always referring to? I really want to know) and Rand is the Richie Rich guy who doesn’t form emotional attachments but is used to getting what he wants. Some people criticize this aspect of the book but I found the competition between Dani and Rand entertaining. I am a very competitive person so reading about two people who are constantly seeking to one up each other is right up my alley. Both Dani and Rand want to prove that they can walk away anytime they want. Dani wants that because deep down she doesn’t think Rand would want someone like her. Rand wants the walk away award….I’m not really sure why beyond he’s just the typical brooding billionaire playboy.

I found Rand’s pursuit of Dani interesting. I personally like the kind of Cinderella story where the heroine needs financial assistance and the male lead offers it with lots of juicy strings attached. I’m not sure I completely understood everything that was going on in Risk It. For example, there are issues with Rand’s family that are introduced but not really well fleshed out. Then there is the time Rand decides to join Dani on a “job.” First, I don’t understand why Dani was still engaged in that shenanigans when she had Rand. Second, since when do billionaires do ish like that? It just seemed so random. I thought the relationship between Dani and Rand was developing and we were going to get to see how things turned out but then the book just ends. There is no actual relationship in the book. There is this weird 30 day off and on arrangement and then the book is just over with both of them saying they want to develop an actual relationship. Sooooo…we never get to read about the actual relationship.

Despite the quirks in the book I actually liked most of it. It had some good sex scenes (4/5 stars for the sex), it was well written and the pace was good. I think if the book had a better ending, I would have given it a much higher rating. As it is, 3 stars is all I could manage.
