I'm excited about this newly reedited second-edition version of Sunrise at Sunset, which includes new never-been-seen-before material and a bonus chapter that bridges events between book 1 and book 2 (A Bloody London Sunset). In addition, a special interview with Jaz is included for insights into the Sunset Vampire series, the author, and this special second edition. It's a must-read for established Sunset Vampire fans, and a wonderful introduction to my series for new readers, as well.

Well... Started out with an excellent premise and some original ideas, but execution was disappointing. It's a nifty idea to have a female who is more dominant than the male character. What isn't appealing is when one person of the romantic pairing you're supposed to root for comes off as a cold, controlling... husband beater? Katrina lies to Caleb, "her love" the Whole. Damn. Book. If the genders were swapped, every single person reading this would be screaming for the "beta" to leave the "alpha." It was all I could do to finish the book. Now, there are two redeeming qualities in this book - the characters of Paige and Alton. Oh, and the end.
Greetings Readers and Literary Adventurers! Mariah Lynde here with another review for your book hoarding pleasure! Admittedly, I’ve been quiet for a couple of weeks and for that I beg your forgiveness. Needless to say, with the beginning of the school year alongside my growing list of books to be read while writing books of my own, hectic is a kind word.
This past Friday night I was lucky enough to acquire a copy of the recently revamped paranormal romance “Sunrise at Sunset” by Jaz Primo. I will tell you honestly I was pleasantly surprised and enraptured by what I found.
As always I will refrain from giving away spoilers while I touch on the important parts of the story. This book introduces us to a paranormal romance of a different kind. While on many levels it gives us the gritty, edgy quality that we all want to see in stories of creatures that go bump in the night, it also changes the normal parameters of such a story.
Sunrise at Sunset is the story of modern day vampire Katrina, who has spent years living among the human populace and wandering alone. She is an alpha female who is calm, controlled, and knows what she wants in her life. Unlike most popular paranormal fiction, in this book we are given a heroine to lead the story. Driven by her past and the events of her life, Katrina embodies the strength and resilience that only true survivors would know or understand. With her vampiric nature making her every bit a true predator, Katrina is the essence of a complex heroine character that becomes more fascinating as you learn more about her.
Throughout the book you are given small facts and hints about the truth of Katrina’s eternal life and the loneliness that such an existence had brought with it. Coupled with the obvious struggle of nature versus nurture, Katrina is someone that as a reader you become rapidly enamored with.
To further expand on that, is Caleb Taylor. The romantic interest to out disheartened heroine, he is a beta male to Karina alpha status. While most would balk at such a pairing, Jaz Primo presents this scenario with a blend of humor, grace, and heartfelt understanding that brings these characters to life for the audience.
Caleb is an unassuming man whose life is seemingly normal, if not touched by tragedy. In this novel we find him as a simple history professor at a small southern college that wants nothing more than happiness in his life. So when a mysterious woman catches his eye, he takes the risk with his heart and begins a profound journey into a new world with Katrina at his side.
This story is one that is completely captivating in its narrative. With a supporting cast as diverse and enriching as the main characters themselves, I found myself captivated by this story. It is a refreshing new take on the definition of ‘typical’ romance novels. Jaz Primo does an excellent job of balancing the alpha female to beta male with a depth of heart and understanding that proves romance novels are about the connection of people to one another and not their perceived status among others.
Coupling that with well written and exciting fight scenes, dry humor, and more than a little luck I am giving this book a five star rating with the recommendation that anyone looking for a true romantic read with a paranormal setting check this out. I was entranced with the story from start to finish and look forward to picking up the other books in this series.
** Side Note – It should be noted that ‘REVAMPED’ is the second edition of this book that was released this year. A note from the author is offered in the beginning that explains any changes from the original. While this is the first time I have read the novel since its first edition release in 2010, I believe anyone who picks up this book whether they’ve read it before or not will enjoy the fresh presentation.
(Ebook Version) I'm excited about this new re-imagining of the Sunset Vampires universe, which includes fresh, never-been-seen-before material and a bonus chapter that bridges events between book 1 and book 2 (A Bloody London Sunset). In addition, a special interview with Jaz is included for insights into the Sunset Vampire series, the author, and this special second edition. It's a must-read for established Sunset Vampire fans, and a wonderful introduction to my series for new readers, as well. Released as a new work of fiction with new ISBNs for ebook and paperback in August 2014!
I had high hopes for this book. Since it won an award I expected it to be great but that just wasn't the case. Honestly this book was hard to finish but once I start a book it's rare that I won't finish it. This book was pretty boring throughout. There were a couple of areas that had some decent action but other than that it was almost as bad as watching paint dry. I believe this book is under the genre of paranormal romance or something similar but there wasn't any romance. None! The main 2 characters were in a relationship, they kissed a lot and spoke of their feelings for each other and that was it. This book was rated PG times 10! In any kind of romance there should be actual romance scenes. In the same sense that it's rare for me to not complete a book it's also pretty rare that I give up on a series so quickly. I read A LOT so it's getting harder and harder to find a good series so I'm going to give this series one more chance and purchase book 2 in hopes that things pick up. Although it will have to pick up quite a bit for me to move on to book 3. Here's hoping!
Just became hotter - this take on Vampires was refreshing and as old as time. Both new and old.
Really liked the fact that Katrina was kicka**. She was a bit rigid for me through most of the story but I did see signs of her warming up by the end of the story.
However, two things really sold me on this story first was Caleb - he was endearing and real. Also, I completely adored Paige- her irreverent sense of humor and quirkiness kept me laughing.
Love the role reversal! The long empty years an Immortal faces can become seemingly empty and draining. Yet when feeling one cannot go on instincts demand survival. When unexpectedly saved by the most innocent something is renewed within.
Love this series!! Sunrise at Sunset Revamped was a real treat!, January 4, 2015 I originally read this in July of 2012. I think the new revamped edition is even better than the first, but my original review still holds very true...so here you have it: I truly enjoyed this book! Jaz Primo has a clever way of mixing up "the norm" & making you want to see what's to come. Throughout the book I had mixed emotions about the alpha vampire Katrina. The author did a great job giving her very common feminine traits, & while it definitely made sense for her role it had me wanting to scream to her at times "If you'd just voice your thoughts rather than holding them in people might have a chance to show you their potential! Give 'em a chance!" LOLz I also enjoyed getting to know Caleb's character. Who wouldn't fall for his endearing qualities?!? :) I loved all of the unexpected twists that came, & I truly felt I understood the characters & their feelings, decision making, & plotting. I absolutely loved the vampire buddies coming in to the story as well! Alton & Paige quickly became characters I looked forward to seeing more of the following chapters. And finally the ending...every time I feared it was coming to an end & prepared myself to say goodbye to this great book & it's characters we were hit with another unexpected twist & got a few more chapters out of it. :) Furthermore each time I thought I had the ending figured out I was pleasantly surprised it went a completely different direction! Bravo!!
In the first installment we get to now our heroine and alpha vampire, Katrina, and her way of dealing with life decisions. After centuries of experience being vampire and several betrayals, Katrina thinks she has found someone to share her life with. But, when someone from her past threatens her happiness, she takes matters into her own hands. With help from friends she faces the danger while trying to keep her lover safe. The "babysitter" is my favorite character. Unorthodox, hilarious and dangerous, Paige brings such fun to the mix. Read this book and you won't be disappointed.
I like this series, but i came close to calling it quits reading the first book. There was a lot of issues that needed editing. There was a lot of deep emotions attached to simple dialogue while deeply emotional situations were written way to simply. Honestly at some points i questioned the validity of the relationship emotionally. I seriously dont think the author could have wrote this story in first person because the emotions don't really connect with the treatment the characters paid each other. Luckily the author's writing improves with each book. Still looking back, the first book is honestly not that good.

Stong woman + Good guy + Intense action = you should read this book! Not your ordinary paranormal romance! You will find yourself rooting for this unexpected couple and wondering how they will get through some of the plot twists that will keep your eyes glued to this book. The characters are interesting and relatable, and the plot is a nice mixture of character development and intense action. It's definitely worth your time! I can hardly wait to see what happens in the next book. --Reviewer from Platinum Book Reviews--
It was nice to read something where a female had a leading role. I thought this was a cute little story, but for some reason I just expected more based on the cover (yes, I sin the cardinal sin of judging by covers). I loved some of the author's characters (one in particular that is a little fireball brought out later in story).
I never connected with the characters! Themselves female's roles were reversed, she was the alpha in the relationship while Caleb was treated like a scared 12 year old throughout the book. This was not my idea of a great love story. I am not interested in continuing this series.
If you're looking for paranormal romance in vampires and not your normal run-of-the-mill vampire story, then this is for you. Our young male character becomes the interest of a female vampire, needless to say things get adventurous and exciting and you won't be disappointed.
This book started out promising, part one was brilliant but sadly part two couldn't pull it off. It became extremely boring as the central characters took their own paths and new ones were added. I gave up reading it.
