Firstly, thank you to Amanda Nelson & Lisa-Marie Potter for the ARC of this book! 💗

Omg omg omg!!! I loved this book so much!
Jensen and Autumn have to be a new favourite couple that I’ve read about!!
Just what the doctor hired is about our FMC called Autumn who is doing a nursing degree and works for a companion site so she can pay her bills, this is where she meets our MMC Jensen who is a doctor at a paediatric hospital. They have to fake date in order to protect his reputation from past relationships, and her heart from past heartbreak.
We have multiple dates and hot tension, the chemistry between this couple is searing!!
I loved Jensen so much, he is smart, kind, caring but also he knows what he wants and isn’t afraid to go out and get it!
Autumn was an amazing FMC, she has a past that caused a lot of hurt but still wasn’t afraid to open up her heart!
One thing that did annoy me was Lily, I couldn’t stand her! Instead of supporting her best friend, she did everything she could to push Autumn away from Jensen and did what she could to ignore the love that Autumn had for him!! I know she was looking out for her friend but come onnn!!
This book is amazing for people who love books from authors like Lynn Painter

♡ what a beautiful romance story with ELITE banter ♡

thank you to authors Amanda Nelson and Lisa-Marie Potter, and the publisher Wild Rose Press for an advanced reader copy of this book!

4/5 ⭐️

as someone in the medical field, i knew i had to request this book and it didn't disappoint! this book was full of banter, romantic tension & emotional depth of the characters. this was a funny and heartfelt story. i will definitely be getting a copy for my shelf!

this book is part of the Plus One series, but can be read as a standalone (i did!)

📖 plot & pace: a pediatric doctor (Jensen) has just been cheated on.. by a coworker. with a HUGE work event coming up, he needs a date and turns to Plus One, a companion hiring site, & is paired with Autumn. they fake date for a couple of Jensen's events afterwards.. this is when they both catch romantic feelings! autumn isn't looking for a relationship but the chemistry between the two is undeniable. the pacing was PERFECT, with each chapter pulling me in deeper. i was super jealous of their relationship! BUT the third act breakup felt way too forceful. it seemed to come out of no where and kind of derailed the emotional momentum for a bit

👥 characters: I loved the FMC and MMC. Autumns fathers were also a huge part of this story IMO. however, i didn't really like Lilly, the best friend. she seemed like she was purposely interfering and didn't want Autumn to be happy LOL.

🤩 tropes: fake dating, golden retriever boyfriend, third act breakup

this is perfect if you love fast-paced rom-coms (and banter!!!) i thoroughly enjoyed this book and will be sticking around for the series!

Another fabulous read from Amanda and Lisa Marie! Autumn and Jensen's chemistry is electric, and the slow burn from book 1 is just as gripping in Just What the Doctor Hired. I loved the Seattle setting and the challenging situations, keeping you rooting for them to figure it out and get their happily ever after. I need more books in this series!!!

I really enjoyed this romance story. Despite being a successful and handsome doctor, Jensen has had his heart broken and can't seem to find a woman who is right for him. He hires Summer to be his girlfriend for a function, but when they meet, the chemistry between them is very real.
I really enjoyed their romance as it unfolded, and thought that they made a great pairing. I loved their story and thought that for the most part it was realistic and really drew me in. I was horrified by the way the whole insurance and paying for the hospital unfolded when she had appendicitis. I don't know how true that is, but it's monstrous.
I really enjoyed this book and I'd certainly be keen to read more in this series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own and given voluntarily.

❗️MIGHT CONTAIN SPOILERS❗️

Overall: I loved it A LOT. Every moment of it. It was beautifully written and the whole action, plot, ATE IT UP. I fell in love with the characters and their relationships were so sweet. The tension? Was there. One word: AMAZING (book).

Likes:
•the description, perfect, it wasn’t pure romance, but rather fiction. Which gave the book uniqueness and depth.
•the character development. I loved how the authors showed not only the beauty of characters, but also flaws. The plot when Jensen fucked up was perfect to show that we all make mistakes and that actions speak louder than words
•the social areas shown. I loved how we had different areas (the hospital, the football games, the Plus One work, Autumn’s college) and how they showed each perspective, we knew a lot but it wasn’t too much, just the right amount of description and details
•the romance. It was beautiful, pure romance. I loved how it clearly was love, not only physical attraction. Their relationship was perfectly balanced (ofc between love and lust)

Dislikes (not really)
I cannot say I have a dislike in terms of the literal book, but personal preference.
I WAS SO ANNOYED BY LILY (Autumn’s best friend). I get it she was on her side BUT OMG GIRL, JENSEN ISN’T LIKE MATTEO (Autumn’s ex). I hated how she compared so muchhhhh Jensen with her ex when he was COMPLETELY IN LOVE with Autumn. Omg, it ate my soul!

It was a great reading experience, I loved every moment. The trope was clearly shown (the fake dating) and the development of the characters and the world was perfect. The end? BEAUTIFUL.
I would recommend it 100%!! It’s a cute romantic story that touched my heart. If I could, it would give it more than 5 stars🫶🏻

I really really enjoyed this book! I liked both our fmc Autumn and our mmc Jensen as individuals, and I think together they were a great match. I thought that both autumn and Jensen communicated really well, they spoke honestly with eachother about their feelings consistently throughout, which conveyed them to be both mature and emotionally intelligent, which was a breath of fresh air considering miscommunication is common in a lot of romance books!

In addition to this, I thought that their chemistry was there from the very beginning, their playful and flirty personalities matched really well from the moment they began their back and forth in the bar where they met. This chemistry continued throughout the story, and became utterly sweet and romantic when they spent time together (both on their fake dates and real ones) and I kept blushing at their wholesome and romantic interactions.

Honourable mention to Jensen as our mmc, he was down bad for Autumn from the moment he laid eyes on her, and thought of every opportunity to spend time with her and be the perfect gentleman, which was so sweet.

I thought the pacing of the story was just right, and I really enjoyed the presence of all of the side characters in this story. From the doctors at the hospital, to Autumn’s dads and Jensen’s friends, I thought they added to the story and made it more enjoyable (apart from Lily!)

The only thing that I didn’t enjoy about this book was the third act conflict. Firstly, I thought that the conflict shouldn’t have occurred the way that it did, I thought that Josh reappearing and being the cause of the conflict was clever, but the fallout with Jensen and Autumn was unnecessary.

Personally, I interpreted Jensen’s response to the revelation as a means to protect his and Autumn’s former arrangement, rather than him being discriminatory to Autumn and her previous job. And so I thought that Autumn pushing him for answers in front of his peers was unnecessary and out of character for her, and that they both could’ve left the room and discussed the matter privately, especially considering the whole way throughout the rest of the book they displayed such maturity with handling their emotions, so I thought this fallout was unnecessary and out of character. I also felt like everyone’s reaction was exaggerated, and Jensen was made out to be someone who he had already proved he wasn’t.

Finally I did not like Lily as a side character, in my opinion, it’s fine to be a protective best friend but I thought that she was a very narrow minded best friend to Autumn for many reasons; she continued to remind Autumn of her past heartache as a way to convince her not to give her true feelings a chance, despite Jensen and Matteo not being comparable at all, she also never cared enough to even ask any questions about Jensen as a person or how he treated Autumn, because she was so set in her own ways that Autumn should not date until after her BSN. There wasn’t a turnaround of this attitude either, she was just adamant that Autumn should reject Jensen, despite never interacting with him, and this never changed.

Up until the point of the third act conflict, this book was sitting at a 4.5 stars for me, but unfortunately the fallout of it and the way it was handled between the characters brought the rating down slightly, I appreciate that a conflict was necessary for this story, but I would’ve liked to have seen Autumn and Jensen resolve this together rather than break up completely.

Despite this, I really really enjoyed this book as a whole, and I loved Autumn and Jensen together from the outset. 99% of the characters were a joy to read about and definitely added to this story which I was grateful for. I will definitely be picking up a physical copy of this book when it comes out, and would love to read more from this cowriting duo in the future!

Thank you again to Netgalley for providing an arc of this!

This book was giving such hallmark movie vibes, the fake relationship trope was lovely and I found myself desperate to read more. I particularly enjoyed the nurse/doctor element. The main characters as well as the side characters were great, I couldn’t help but find myself disliking a certain female ex!! Absolutely loved it

This Plus One series is quickly becoming a comfort read for me, and I can't wait to see what couple Amanda Nelson and Lisa Marie Potter write about next.

What I love about their storytelling is that the characters feel like real people but in extraordinary situations.

There is a richness to the world and character's voices. It's sweet and romantic without being too spicy and real and authentic as well as having an element of escapism!

A companion (paid date, not escort) meets the perfect guy on one of her jobs who reciprocates her feelings. It's such a cliche: the nursing student dating the doctor but I admire the FMC for trying to keep her relationship professional and for putting herself first with her "no men before her BSN" mantra after a bad previous relationship. I did feel like this was a bit wordier than needed. It was a cute read with a guaranteed HEA.

I received this ARC from NetGalley and am writing this review voluntarily.

A fake dating scenario with a happily ever after? Sign me up to read it!
Overall, I enjoyed the story. It was nice getting to know the character’s families and see those relationships grow for Jensen. I also had respect for Autumn’s character choosing to prioritize her career over a romantic relationship after she had been burned in the past. I would recommend this if you like an easy read with a sweet ending.

Jensen’s date for the best doctors in Seattle ceremony cancelled on him at the last minute and hired a “Plus One” companion to replace her at the dinner. Knowing his gloating ex-girlfriend, Kayla, will be at the dinner and not wanting to show up dateless, he accepts. Autumn accompanies Jensen to the dinner posing as his girlfriend. And what starts as a simple business arrangement soon turns into much more. Both feel sparks fly as they spend time together and both are afraid to acknowledge it until it becomes too much to ignore. This was a well written, clean rom com with a somewhat predictable plot, but with enough nuances thrown in to make it an unputdownable read. In fact the sun was setting as I finished reading while enjoying the summer evening at the lake. 4.5 stars rounded to 5 Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to Netgalley, BookBuzz, and Amanda Nelson & Lisa-Marie Potter for this ARC. I will be giving my honest review.
This book starts off with Autumn who works as a companion which means people hire her to pretend to be their date or girlfriend. She gets hired to go to a doctors award ceremony to be someone's date. Jensen is receiving an award and his date cancelled on him, so his friend suggested using this companion service where he gets paired up with Autumn. They meet and instantly have a pull towards one another. Jensen catches feelings for Autumn when he learns more about her, like she's in nursing school, and she enjoys watching football and hiking. Jensen hires Autumn to pretend to be his girlfriend for a few more times until they cannot deny their chemistry.
I immediately knew this would give me Grey's Anatomy vibes. The characters have a witty back and forth throughout. I enjoyed seeing the instant connection between the two from their separate POVs. Both of the main characters are humble and genuine. The mmc is so sincere and caring towards everyone in his life. Jensen is a pediatric doctor with messy light brown hair and green eyes so obviously I pictured Jensen Ackles the entire book. I felt like this book was a perfect fit for me and I would recommend it.

I have to say I enjoyed this book a lot it was a fun and easy read, it was just what I needed, the characters were very lovable and engaging, their chemistry was palpable and soo cute I was rooting for them from the beginning, I do have to say that at times it did feel a bit insta lovey and rushed especially how they fell in love and I felt like the ending was a bit dragged out but overall it was a really fun book and their character development was heartwarming🤍

Just what the Doctor Ordered by Amanda Nelson and Lisa-Marie Potter is the second book in the “Plus One” series. It can be read as a stand alone as the company is the main connector between the two books.

Autumn is university student studying a bachelor of Nursing degree. To help pay the bills Autumn works for plus one as a companion. It’s not an escort agency, this is a business where gentlemen can hire Autumn to accompany them to functions where the invitation says to bring a plus one and they don’t have one. She has been badly burned by a previous boyfriend and has vowed not to date seriously until she has her degree.

Jensen is a Paediatric doctor who has just won a best doctor award and needs to bring a ‘plus one’ to the award ceremony. The main hitch for him attending is that his ex-girlfriend is attending with her new doctor boyfriend; everyone know a she was cheating on Jensen before she made the jump. Jensen is not interested in dating, but needs her to think he’s moved on. His friend, Molly, used the plus one service in the first book for a male companion, so she sets Jensen up with Autumn.

The scene is set for romance.

The two of them are instantly attracted to each other, neither of them are looking for love but the chemistry is definitely front and centre. They pull off the award night and then there are a few more hired dates, and a few hurdles to overcome, before they succumb to the inevitable, admit their true feelings and finally get their happy ever after.

This was a beautiful romance and I loved the main characters, both had had bad experiences with love in the past, hence some trust issues, so even though the attraction was strong they resisted Insta-love and allowed their friendship side of the relationship to develop first. Sure there was a hiccup but all went well in the end.

I really liked the premise of this. I love a good fake dating trope and liked the idea of Plus One dating turning into something more. Not usually one for a 3rd act breakup but this was necessary for the storyline.

Autumn felt a bit repetitive and stubborn when it came to Jensen originally. I get the whole not wanting to date while training to be a nurse as it was hard but surely the one person who would understand the needs of a health care professional was a Dr. In the end I did like how she stuck up for herself when Jensen didn't. Her relationships with her dads was so wholesome and I love the way they were so fiercely protective of her even with her career choice. I also liked the fact she was extremely independent and would rather work to pay her way through nursing degree.

Jensen, yes although he was a bit of an idiot, was a nice sweet character. I would have liked an expansion on his relationship with his mum and brother. Hes written in such a way that you're willing him and Autumn to be together as he is a genuinely nice person who takes his job so seriously in the children's wards.

I feel like both MCs characters could have more depth but they felt genuine throughout the book. I enjoyed the pacing of the book and there wasn't too much angst or slow burn.

I love that they got their HEA in the way that they did. Their relationship felt very natural despite how they met.

I did think there was some random moments like Autumns interactions with her roommate. I thought these were going to be key to the story but kind of fizzled out.

Overall a good read and I enjoyed it.

Thanks to Amanda Nelson, Lisa-Marie Potter, Wild Rose Press and NetGallery for the ARC in return for my honest opinion.

3.5/5 ⭐

I love romances where the main characters work in medicine, and honestly, that’s the reason I chose to read this book.

JustWhatTheDoctorHired is a romance between a medical specialist and a nursing student. To be honest, it wasn’t what I expected in many ways, but it didn’t disappoint either.

From the beginning, we meet a heroine who’s pretty anxious about her life and career, and a hero dealing with internal struggles in his professional life. They meet through mutual acquaintances and a dating app, and there's an agreement between them—which I admit got me really excited. From their first meeting, you can feel their instant connection. Their genuine chemistry made that part of the story easy and fun to read. The scenes were often lighthearted with a playful tone.

However, that doesn’t last long. There’s a third-act breakup (which honestly threw me off).

I have to admit, during that part of the story, there were a lot of things I didn’t enjoy. The connection they had built at the start felt lost—not because of the breakup itself, but because some things just didn’t make sense to me. The pacing felt too rushed, everything either dissolved or got resolved way too quickly, and I just couldn’t reconnect with the story.

Still, despite its ups and downs, it’s an entertaining read.

Thanks to NetGalley and the author for providing me with an advance copy.

JustWhatTheDoctorHired comes out on July 9—don’t miss it!

Thank you to NetGalley, book buzz & The wild rose press for a copy of the book in return for my unbiased review.

A great closed door romance read with a little sizzle. my first from the authors. Jenson, a paediatric doctor needs a date for a medical event in which his recent ex had been cheating on him with another doctor. Jenson hires Autumn through a 'plus one' service and the spark ignites from the get go.

Over a series of events, the chemistry continues to build, however they have both had difficult pasts and struggle to navigate their relationship initially. I also love Autumns dads, they are absolutely fabulous.

A great read if you love a medical romance, interspersed with sports references and a slow burn angsty romance.

💕 closed door romance (does have kissing)
🩷 golden retriever mmc
💕 strong, smart independent fmc
🩷 Medical references
💕 third act break up / interference

Loved This One !!! . . .

Student Autumn Haze is working on her nursing degree and has decided not to date until that is completed. She doesn’t need such a distraction. Instead, she works at Plus One Companion Agency to earn an income to pay bills. She is supposed to meet her client Josh Anderson at Seattle’s Rock Bar and he was already late. There are things about him that don’t seem to add up for her. His photo didn’t match how she imagined a twenty-seven-year-old inspirational guru. His smile was “leery”, his eyes appeared “too aggressive”, and his choice of venue tonight gave her doubts. Even his website seemed “gimmicky and cheesy”, no qualifications beyond a disclaimer of responsibility if they didn’t like his classes. But the more than 2 million followers didn’t make sense. If he didn’t show up within 15 minutes, she was leaving. Unfortunately, he arrived just in time, slouched over, almost slipping off the other side of his chair, hair tangled, and wearing sunglasses so he could check out all the other females around him! Even his clothes were wrinkled and wine-stained, the bad breath verifying all that. His opening line: “I got tested three weeks ago. I’m clean.” She quickly told him his sex life is not relevant to a country club fundraising dinner. He laughed and said he lied about their destination and he had other plans for her. She was glad she had brought a taser! She verbally canceled the contract and left. She and her best friend had worked out a way to keep each other safe. She texted her friend to alert her — “Lil, leaving Rock Bar, keep an eye on me. Client was a creeper”— and she returned home.

Autumn is then notified from Plus One about another client, Dr. Jensen Edwards who is receiving an award at a recognition dinner and needs a plus-one. She imagined a mature gentleman with gray hair, a beard, and glasses; but the photo showed a gorgeous man in his early to mid-thirties. Was this “recent”?? Actually Jensen’s mother had insisted he take the daughter of one of her friends, so he had a date arranged until Molly went back with her boyfriend Jared. Molly helpfully set up a replacement date with Autumn and paid her fees. As for Jensen, he had a recent nasty breakup and is concerned people will gossip if he has a “hired date” with him. Even worse, his cheating ex-girlfriend Kayla and her new man will be there. But the chemistry between Jensen and Autumn when they meet is immediately obvious as she agrees to be his girlfriend and they create their back-story… which was much more difficult than they imagined! But would they give themselves a chance for more time together as they get to know each other? Would they allow themselves a HEA?

—ARC Review from NetGalley—

I’ll preface with… I did enjoy this book. It was a quick, easy read. The story was cute and I’m a sucker for Fake Dating trope. However, I really shouldn’t read books about the city I live in. So many of the Seattle or PNW references were wrong and it drove me nuts! (Bremerton is not an island, but the ferry does go there.) Also, changing professional sport team names due to trademark is totally fine and expected, but some of the made up PNW themed places and names were trying too hard and felt cringy. (I’m looking at you EcoFriendly Arena.) This is probably not an issue for someone who doesn’t live here but more of a me problem.

To the characters, Jensen and Autumn were a sweet couple together. The side characters were fun except for her best friend, Lilly. Yikes! She seemed really against her friend’s happiness in dating at every turn. Kind of kept expecting some twist where she knew the MMC and was jealous.

This was a cute read and I was rooting for the characters. Autumn is paying her way through nursing school and one of her jobs is working for a service as a "rental" date. Jensen is a pediatric hospitalist in Seattle and needs a date for an awards banquet. His friend hires Autumn to accompany him. The contract is clear - no funny business.
They hit it off and even though Autumn wants to focus on her schooling ("No men until the BSN"), she can't ignore her feelings for Jensen. Overall they have some bumps along the way, but it all works out in the end.

I liked the plot of the story and will always be interested in a good healthcare romance. I adored Jensen’s character but I found Autumn unreasonably stubborn. I felt like there were parts of the book that were going to turn into a significant part of the storyline, but it didn’t. Like…every interaction with her roommate? Overall, I enjoyed the romance between Jensen and Autumn. And her dads were some of my favorite supporting characters!

thank you NetGalley for this ARC!

this felt sooo hallmark! it was just your average fake dating, will-they-won’t-they romance novel. I didn’t feel like there was anything super special about this book. I definitely ate this story up but i feel neutral about it! the premise was unique, the companion for hire thing is something I havent seen before so that was a fun plot point. definitely cheesy and a little cringe at times. the characters felt a bit immature for their stated ages and I honestly didn’t feel a whole lot of chemistry but still a fun little read. 2.5/5!

This slow burn had me hooked from page one, all I wanted to do was keep turning the pages to find out what happened. the chemistry between autumn and Jenson was electric and the fact that it was a slow burn made it so much better. it was a light-hearted fantastically written book with some series parts in it to. Jenson made a big mistake towards the end of the book but I love that they were able to over come that mistake once he had declared his love. can't wait to read more from these authors.

This was an ARC read and I’m so thankful I was allowed to read it before publication!

This was such an adorable little read! I wouldn’t say it was like any of the other romance books I’ve read. Of course they had their happily ever after but it didn’t happen quite like I thought it would, which I loved! This book drew me in from the start. It could easily be a 5/5 star book but I’m sooooo picky on which books get 5 stars. I’d say it’s 4.5 rounded down because I can’t get myself to give it a 5. But it’s SOOOO good and I highly recommend the read!!
