Chef Truffles give a cooking lesson to Babar and his family. Then the children decide to try out their new skills. A good message about taking the initiative without expecting perfection.

Queen Celeste invites Chef Truffles to the palace to give the family cooking lessons.

Reading Barbar Learns to Cook made me hungry for the food Chef Truffles taught the family to cook.

The illustrations are absolutely imaginative.

Peace and order through conflict resolution and problem solving. There's a je ne sais quoi about Babar's French-African kingdom that's deeply and thoroughly appealing. Wholesome.

After watching the Babar movie, my son seems to remember and like the character of Babar. This was a pretty fun book and I'm glad that he likes one of my childhood favorites. The movie, BTW, was very well done.

Chef Truffles has a cooking class in the palace kitchen. The children misbehave during his cooking and Arthur takes the Chef's hat during the nap. The chef is mad until he tries Arthur's chocolate sauce. All get a white hat, but the Old Lady doesn't want one.

I think this book would work well with a first grade class. Helps to encourage children to go after their dreams.
