According to the Scriptures the devil tempted Jesus during a period of fasting and prayer that was preparation for Jesus' public ministry and passion. Throughout the Bible, times of desert preparation often preceded significant ministry. This is why we observe the season preceding Easter as a time for spiritual focus. The rhythms of fasting and feasting, desert and oasis, discipline and joy are not only well known to God's people but also essential components of spiritual growth.These Forty Days is a simple guide for the reading of Scripture, reflection, prayer, and response. The primary emphasis of this devotional is on the teaching of Jesus in what we have come to call the Sermon on the Mount, as presented to us in Matthew’s gospel. This is meant to be a friendly practice and not task driven. An excellent Lenten devotional. Each day from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday is a Bible text, a few thoughts to consider, a short reading, a prayer, a discipline or response, and a blessing. The primary focus is the Sermon on the Mount. Really enjoyed the time spent in these pages.

What a wonderful devotional for Lent! It truly helped me focus on Christ and what He did for me, for us.
